A growing number of professionals are looking beyond traditional dating apps and finding romance on LinkedIn. Frustrated by ghosting, fake profiles, and swipe fatigue, singles are increasingly viewing professional profiles as a better indicator of character and compatibility. While LinkedIn remains a business-focused platform and discourages romantic solicitation, reports and surveys suggest that meaningful relationships are forming through networking connections.

Love in the time of networking: Is LinkedIn the new dating app?

AI is rapidly reshaping how work gets done, and professionals who are not leaning into AI are risking shorter careers. This is especially true formid-level and senior professionals who have been shaped by a pre-AI way of working. As organisations accelerate AI adoption, resistance to AI is no longer a viable strategy. The final episode of ‘Beyond AI, CVs & JDs with LinkedIn’, created in collaboration with Zee Media, discusses how AI-powered workplaces are giving rise to new expectations, especially for experienced professionals. Ruchee Anand, APAC VP of Talent & Learning Solutions, LinkedIn, and Sanjeev Jain, Chief Operating Officer, Wipro, highlight how professionals must rethink learning, mindset, and leadership to remain relevant in an AI-enabled workplace.
Experience alone is no longer enough
What helped professionals succeed before AI will not necessarily help them in the long run. While experience still matters, it is no longer sufficient because roles and skills are constantly evolving. Thus, as Anand explains in the episode, learnability is becoming a core skill. She defines it as the ability to “create space in the flow of work to learn, apply new tools, and stay curious.” For mid-level and senior professionals, relevance increasingly depends on how quickly they can update skills, apply learning to new contexts, and demonstrate adaptability – not just depth of past experience.
Unlearn, relearn, repeat
Reinvention is no longer episodic; it is continuous. As Jain puts it, “We have to unlearn, learn, and relearn. We can’t live our lives on what we learned yesterday, that won’t work anymore.” As skills and ways of working evolve faster, reinvention becomes unavoidable for experienced professionals. Anand says, “AI is about newer jobs, not fewer jobs,” emphasising why openness to change is critical for staying relevant. Crucially, reinvention is also a leadership responsibility: senior professionals shape team norms, influence learning culture, and signal whether adaptation and learning are encouraged across the organisation.
An AI-first mindset unlocks high-value leadership
As Jain explains, being AI-first is about treating AI as a ‘buddy’ – using it to reduce cognitive load so professionals can focus on creativity, communication, and leadership. This is especially relevant for senior professionals, whose value increasingly lies in judgment, mentoring, problem-solving, and strategic thinking. That said, AI-first leadership is not about technical mastery alone. It is about using AI to elevate human strengths — helping experienced professionals lead with greater clarity, purpose, and influence. In an AI-enabled workplace, growth will come to those who never stop learning, stay open to change, and use technology to amplify, not replace, what they do best. From experience to adaptability: Staying relevant as AI reshapes work

In an age where an increasing number of recruiters are using AI to screen applications, hiring is becoming more signal-driven. For job seekers, this prompts the need for a new approach to how they apply for jobs – templated CVs are out, and a profile that neatly maps their skills, experience, and intent will help them win in the job market. The final episode of ‘Beyond AI, CVs & JDs with LinkedIn’ created in collaboration with Zee Media, dives into this AI-proof approach of job-search and career growth. Ruchee Anand, APAC VP of Talent & Learning Solutions, LinkedIn, and Sanjeev Jain, Chief Operating Officer, Wipro, break down how professionals can build authentic, skills-first profiles and connections that stand out in an AI-powered talent market.
A = Authentic profile
In a market shaped by automation and scale, authenticity has become a differentiator. Authenticity does not mean oversharing. It means clarity. Profiles that clearly explain career decisions, learning, and intent are easier to trust and assess, even when career journeys don’t follow a linear path. As Anand notes, “Many strong candidates weaken their own signal by failing to explain career breaks, transitions, or pivots clearly.” The issue isn’t the break itself, but the absence of context for recruiters. In an AI-enabled hiring environment, clear signals travel further than perfectly curated credentials.
B = Building skills and brand
Skills-first hiring has changed how value is recognised. As Anand highlighted in the episode, some of the most relevant skills are built outside formal job titles – through college experiences, extracurricular activities, early leadership roles, or certifications. With seven in ten recruiters prioritising transferable skills over degrees, learnability has become a strong marker of relevance. Recruiters today are looking for clear signals of growth and intent – what defines you as a professional? Building your personal brand based on your learnings clearly communicates capability and direction.
C = Connecting with purpose
Making a strong case for networking, Anand emphasised that purposeful connections matter more than volume. Reaching out for learning, guidance, or advice, rather than transactional requests, builds relevance in the long-term. In an AI-enabled discovery environment, this is what helps surface stronger signals than mass connection requests. As hiring becomes more skills-led and AI-assisted, the professionals who stand out will be those who send the clearest signals. Authentic profiles, visible skills, and intentional connections do not just improve discoverability – they build credibility. Elliot Rosenberg is one of the few people who shuns the norm. While most people dream of moving to The United States of America, Rosenberg walked in the opposite direction.
Traveling to India transformed Rosenberg's life. He transformed himself from someone who didn’t speak a word of Hindi into a businessman that operated in the language seamlessly. The unstructured nature of India motivated Rosenberg to build a career, develop an idealistic outlook on life, and ultimately, fall in love.
So why would someone attempt to exchange comfort for discomfort? And what could have possessed him to change his life from an exploration journey to residing in a nation so different from his homeland? The answer lies in the journey of Elliot Rosenberg, an American who chose to settle down in India.

What started as a tourist visit turned into a life-changing decision. For many, the American Dream represents success and stability, but for Elliot Rosenberg, it became a costly pursuit. Skyrocketing inflation, rising living expenses, and an increasingly competitive work culture pushed him to seek an alternative—one that led him 8,000 miles away to India.
Elliot had built a promising career in the US, but financial pressures made it difficult to enjoy life to the fullest. Inflation was eating into his earnings, and even basic necessities came with hefty price tags. Housing, healthcare, and daily expenses kept climbing, making it harder to save or invest in personal ventures.
In contrast, India offered a refreshing change. Here, Elliot found that he could maintain a high-quality lifestyle at a fraction of the cost. Settling in Goa, he and his wife, Vrinda, live comfortably on just ₹1 lakh (about $1,200) per month—an amount that barely covers rent in many American cities. In India, however, this budget allows for a spacious home, great food, and a balanced work-life dynamic, something he rarely experienced in the US.
"I came to India in 2015 as a tourist, actually thinking that I would start a business here but my home is in India now," Elliot said with a smile.
In an exclusive interview with WION, Elliot Rosenberg opened up on what prompted him to move to India, how he embraced the Indian culture, his business venture and much more.
Elliot's academic journey began at the University of Virginia, where he pursued a degree in commerce with a secondary focus on Latin American studies. However, his true passion lay in entrepreneurship. Early on, he founded an online marketplace that connected travellers with homestays in Brazil’s favelas. Having spent time in these communities, he saw beyond the often-negative media portrayals and recognised the warmth and potential within them.
Here's a look at his viral LinkedIn post:

His experiences in Brazil shaped his perspective on business and impact. Instead of simply pursuing profit, he wanted his ventures to create meaningful change. After graduating, he booked a one-way ticket to Brazil, eager to immerse himself in its culture and economy. Yet, life had other plans, leading him far beyond South America.

The Indian chapter

In 2015, Elliot arrived in India as a tourist with a keen interest in exploring business opportunities. He had read about the country’s potential for social enterprises but soon realised that understanding India required more than just theoretical knowledge. The complexities of its diverse culture, languages, and business landscape were overwhelming at first, but he was determined to find his place.

A turning point came in 2016 when he joined Awaz.de, a social impact start-up, as the head of sales. This role allowed him to engage with India's grassroots realities while honing his business acumen in an entirely new environment. Over time, India was no longer just a place of work—it became home.

Immersing in culture

Adapting to a new country is never easy, but Elliot embraced the challenge. Learning Hindi was one of his first steps, although he admits that fluency remains elusive. However, his appreciation for India’s cultural depth continued to grow. He explored its traditions, festivals, and social dynamics, gaining a deeper understanding of the country beyond the business sphere.
Amid this journey, Elliot met Vrinda—a former corporate lawyer turned yoga teacher—on a dating app during the pandemic. Their connection was instant, and together, they explored different parts of India before eventually settling in Goa. Their journey together reflects the balance between personal and professional transformation that Elliot has sought throughout his life.
Today, Elliot runs his own business, specialising in helping clients in the US optimise their credit card rewards for luxury travel. Yet, his mission extends beyond personal success. He is committed to creating opportunities for young Indian graduates, particularly those from non-premier institutes, proving that talent exists beyond traditional elite networks.
"My last business that failed in India was looking to train or was helping to train and place freshers from tier two, tier three colleges in India and place them in knowledge worker roles."
"I hope that I can continue that mission in a different way by employing freshers myself directly," he added.

His vision is not just to build a profitable business but to empower fresh talent and encourage other companies to recognize India's vast human potential. His experiences—whether in the favelas of Brazil or the start-up hubs of India—have shaped his belief that real impact comes from providing opportunities where they are often overlooked.
His journey proves that sometimes, happiness isn’t found in where you start but in where you choose to build your future.

World's largest professional social network website LinkedIn is facing a lawsuit by its premium users for allegedly sharing personal messages of users with other companies to train artificial intelligence (AI) models. The US lawsuit claimed that the platform, in August last year, "quietly" introduced privacy settings that automatically made the users opt into a programme allowing third parties to use their data.

The lawsuit further accused LinkdIn, owned by Microsoft, of trying to conceal the action by changing its privacy policy after a month in which it was mentioned that the users' data could be disclosed by LinkdIn for training AI.
However, LinkedIn rejected all the allegations.

The lawsuit alleged that the platform further changed its 'frequently asked questions' section, which now says that a user can choose not to share their data for AI training, but the decisions could not change the training that had already taken place.
"LinkedIn's actions... indicate a pattern of attempting to cover its tracks," the lawsuit claimed, BBC reported.
It further adds, "This behaviour suggests that LinkedIn was fully aware that it had violated its contractual promises and privacy standards and aimed to minimise public scrutiny."

The lawsuit was filed on behalf of a LinkedIn Premium user, and everyone else in the same situation, in a California federal court.
In return, the lawsuit asked for $1,000 for each user who was the victim of the alleged violation.

World | In return, the lawsuit asked the world's largest professional networking website for $1,000 for each user who was the victim of the alleged violation.

However, LinkedIn rejected all the allegations. "LinkedIn's actions... indicate a pattern of attempting to cover its tracks," the lawsuit claimed, BBC reported. It further adds, "This behaviour suggests that LinkedIn was fully aware that it had violated its contractual promises and privacy standards and aimed to minimise public scrutiny." LinkedIn is sharing user data with third parties to train AI, alleges US lawsuit

Billionaire, Democratic Party mega-donor and co-founder of LinkedIn Reid Hoffman has been reportedly unhappy about the victory of President-elect Donald Trump and has been planning to leave the country.

Hoffman openly supported the campaign of Vice President Kamala Harris. He informed his friends about considering relocating overseas because he is fearful about how Trump will use power in the White House against his political enemies, as reported by the New York Times.

In July, after Trump faced their first failed assassination attempt, Hoffman felt he was in hot water because of his previous comments in which he had expressed his wish for the Republican leader to be an “actual martyr.”

According to a report published in the Times in April last year, Hoffman, who had made a donation of $10 million to a super PAC that was supporting Harris, had also helped bankroll a defamation lawsuit that was filed against Trump by former New York magazine writer E. Jean Carroll.

In the court, the lawyers of Trump at the time had also argued about the role of Hoffman in financing the lawsuit and raised questions over the credibility of Carroll.

Trump was found guilty of sexually abusing Carroll in 1996 by a jury. The victim was given $5 million in damages.

An additional $83.3 million was given to Carroll in damages for defamation by another jury after Trump claimed that she had lied about rape allegations.

Along with Hoffman, other deep-pocketed Democrat donors have also been considering moving abroad with Trump coming at the helm.

The networking platform had sought to claim (variously) “consent”, “legitimate interests” and “contractual necessity” based legal bases for processing people's information — when obtained directly and/or from third parties — to track and profile its users for behavioural advertising.

However, the DPC found none were valid. LinkedIn also failed to comply with the GDPR principles of transparency and fairness.

In a statement, LinkedIn said that the IDPC reached a final decision on claims from 2018 about “some of our digital advertising efforts in the EU”.

“While we believe we have been in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we are working to ensure our ad practices meet this decision by the IDPC's deadline,” the company said.

‘Miss you, says i-Pill’ Zepto notification to woman sparks outcry on internet

Politics at work can get pretty nasty, and a former Amazon vice-president experienced the worst of it for his "pushback" in the office. Ethan Evans shared on LinkedIn about his stint working for a CEO in a startup who seduced his wife, ultimately leading to divorce.

“A CEO that I worked for seduced my wife in direct retaliation for my pushback on him at work. He won. I got divorced and left the company,” Evans wrote in his LinkedIn post.

Evans talked about bad bosses and good bosses and how he survived and moved forward dealing with it all.

He wrote that he wants people to learn from his experience of working in "political snake pits" and dealing with "snakes".

Evans worked with Amazon for 15 years after joining as a senior manager. He climbed the corporate ladder within the company and was appointed vice president of Prime Gaming in 2019. He retired from Amazon in September 2020 and now has his own newsletter for career growth solutions.

His Level Up newsletter talked of his experience working with bad leaders in detail.

Evans stresses in the newsletter that he has "real experience working with unethical leaders." He calls his seduction and divorce story the “worst example” of manipulative and unethical leaders he ever came across in his career.

However, in one of the comments he acknowledged that his marriage had problems. “As a PS, I want to acknowledge that what this CEO did would not have worked if my then-wife had not been open to his proposition. This in turn reflects that our marriage had problem.”

“While she was not looking for a liaison at the start, in the end, she made her own independent adult choices,” he added.

Evans goes on to advise people on how to spot "the snake" and go about working with them.

"With the CEO I talk about, I had "spotted the snake" - my mistake was staying too long and getting bitten," he wrote.

"I recognized early on that my CEO in the divorce story was unethical and dishonest. My mistake was letting fear of a tough economy convince me to try to stay in the job and "win" by pushing back. It cost me far more than I ever thought it could."

He goes on to talk about the gift of good managers and how they are the reason he made progress in his career.

"Hold on to these managers as much as you can. Help them grow and succeed so that you can stay together, and you can grow and succeed with them."

Meanwhile, internet sleuths got down to business to figure out the name of this CEO. Some of them said it was likely Jeff Bezos, but that could not be it since Evans's post calls him the CEO of a startup. He also says that he quit the company, but he stayed at Amazon for 15 years.

One of the LinkedIn comments said that the incident happened 19 years ago. According to his LinkedIn profile, he worked as the VP of Engineering at Lightningcast during this time.

Politics at work can get pretty nasty, and a former Amazon vice-president experienced the worst of it for his "pushback" in the office. Ethan Evans shared on LinkedIn about his stint working for a CEO in a startup who seduced his wife, ultimately leading to divorce.

This in turn reflects that our marriage had problem.” × “While she was not looking for a liaison at the start, in the end, she made her own independent adult choices,” he added. Evans goes on to advise people on how to spot "the snake" and go about working with them. While hunting for jobs on the professional networking site LinkedIn, people often put an “open to work” banner on their profile pictures. As of today, around 33 million people worldwide are using the banner, as per data from the site. Now, a former Google executive and recruiter has termed the label “biggest red flag” for any candidate.

‘Open to work’ banner

The banner was introduced by LinkedIn a few years ago. Its purpose is to let recruiters know that an individual is actively seeking a job on the platform and is available to be hired.

But as per Nolan Church, ex-Google recruiter, this is not a smart thing to do.

“There is a truism in recruiting that the best people are not looking for jobs,” he was quoted as saying by CNBC.

The same views were offered by Lindsay Mustain, a former Amazon recruiter and current career coach.

Lindsay Mustain, in a conversation with CNBC said, “Recruiters want to want you, not the other way around”, and the hiring game is all about “power dynamics”.

Having the “open to work” badge on your profile may make the recruiter think, “because you need something from me, that means that I have the power in this conversation,” says Mustain.

Disagreements

However, not all recruiters agree with the two former recruiters.

Techie's LinkedIn post seeking "junior wife" sparks backlash online

Professional networking platform LinkedIn said Thursday (Mar 29) it was working on a TikTok-like short-form video feed, following the trend set by giants like Instagram and YouTube. A dedicated video feed full of short-form content will appear in the app’s navigation bar. Users will be able to scroll through the videos, while also sharing, commenting on and liking them. The feature was first spotted by Austin Null, a strategy director at an influencer agency called McKinney.

The difference

It must be noted that LinkedIn’s video tab won’t look like a copycat of similar features in other apps. While the content on Instagram, YouTube and TikTok encompasses a variety of topics, from comedy, and politics to food and lifestyle, the content on LinkedIn will be carefully themed around career-related topics.

Simply put, the app won’t lose its essence of being a career-oriented app after the introduction of the video feature.

Feature in early testing

Microsoft-owned LinkedIn has said the feature is still in the early stages and will take time to get rolled out fully. The company said it was forced to take the step as “videos are becoming one of its users’ desired formats for learning from professionals and experts.”

Many ‘TikTokers’ and content creators on Instagram and YouTube have amassed massive following by posting career-related content on these platforms. LinkedIn now wants to attract this wide community to its own app, leveraging its position as the biggest professional networking platform in the market.

The app might also look forward to monetising its video feed, enticing creators to flock to LinkedIn for their career-related content.

Concerns

However, not all users are fans of short-form video content. Many express concern about the proliferation of such content across platforms as it may come across as a distracting feature on an app especially dedicated to professional networking.

LinkedIn's actions reflect the broader challenges faced by the tech industry. This year, the sector has seen an unprecedented 141,516 job losses, starkly contrasting the 6,000 job cuts in the previous year. LinkedIn primarily generates its revenue through advertising sales and subscriptions. While the company reported a 5% increase in revenue in the fourth quarter of 2023, it's a decrease from the 10% growth seen in the previous quarter. LinkedIn's slowdown is attributed to reduced hiring and a decline in advertising spending.

Amid these challenges, LinkedIn remains steadfast in its commitment to strategic priorities. The platform continues to add new members to its extensive community, which boasts over 950 million users.

In response to economic challenges and a notable revenue slowdown, LinkedIn, the professional social network owned by Microsoft, has embarked on a significant transformation. With over two rounds of layoffs this year, the company is reducing its workforce by 1,384 employees. Restructuring for efficiency LinkedIn's first major step in streamlining operations was in May when it cut 716 jobs across sales, operations, and support teams. This decision aimed to remove organisational layers, fostering agility and quicker decision-making. This wasn't just about cutting jobs; it was about optimising efficiency. The second round of layoffs The recent announcement of 668 job cuts in engineering, talent, and finance teams signifies LinkedIn's ongoing commitment to restructuring. This move comes as the second round of layoffs within a year, affecting over 3% of its 20,000-strong workforce. It's not an isolated event but part of a deliberate strategy. In an effort to compete with business websites like LinkedIn, Billionaire Elon Musk-owned 'X' has added a new hiring tool, which allows verified businesses to post job listings on their profiles.

In response to a post on 'X', which asked if there's anything worse than LinkedIn, Musk wrote, “People send me LinkedIn links sometimes, but the cringe level is so high that I just can't bring myself to use it. So I ask for the resume or bio to be emailed. We will make sure that the X competitor to LinkedIn is cool.”

Musk also said in another comment that LinkedIn is the “most cringe platform on the internet."

The tweet quickly gathered a lot of attention, with people on social media responding right away. “The worst part is people just making stuff up,” one user remarked. According to the user, many people use titles on LinkedIn that are completely fictitious and unrelated to what they actually do for the firm.

Musk had hinted about launching the recruiting tool in May. When a user asked whether 'x' will offer dating services, Musk responded, “Interesting idea, maybe jobs too.”

The latest development seems like yet another step in the direction of the 'X' becoming the all-encompassing app that Elon Musk originally talked about.

According to a recent TechCrunch article, 'X' purchased a job-matching tech start-up called Laskie in May, marking the platform’s first acquisition since Musk purchased it. It is a great possibility that the platform’s ability to create and release the new functionality was aided by this acquisition.

Elon Musk's X introduces 'new job hiring feature' for verified organisations, calls LinkedIn cringe

Microsoft-owned job-networking site LinkedIn is betting that the way employers hire candidates and the way candidates find jobs would radically change in the future.

Microsoft-owned job-networking site LinkedIn is betting that the way employers hire candidates and the way candidates find jobs would radically change in the future. According to a report by the news agency Bloomberg on Friday (June 9), LinkedIn sees a future where employees will be willing to look beyond long-established entry requirements such as college degrees and prior job titles to focus instead on an applicant's proven skills such as leadership, data analytics etc. Citing a survey conducted last month, the report said while more than 80 per cent of employers believed that they should hire based on skills rather than degrees, more than half say they are still hiring college grads because it feels less risky. Joseph Fuller, a management professor at Harvard Business School, said, "Skills-based hiring is the great white whale, the holy grail of the labour market." A skills-matching feature launched In February this year, LinkedIn launched a skills-matching feature, allowing users to see how the skills a job calls for might align with their own strengths. The feature had some positive signs: Over 45% of recruiters on LinkedIn now search for candidates using skills data, according to the company. Bloomberg reported that skills-first hiring is considered a way to expand economic opportunity, especially for people who do not have a college degree. However, there hasn’t been much large-scale progress in that direction till now. Aneesh Raman, Vice-President and Head of The Opportunity Project at LinkedIn, said, “Skills has been a conversation that has been going on for years, for decades.” “In those conversations were often the same people: policymakers, academics, nonprofits. Missing from those conversations, almost all of them, were employers,” Raman added. And when it comes to skills-based hiring, Raman said, "Employers are no longer asking: ‘What is this?’ They're asking, ‘How do I do this?’” LinkedIn to use AI With the surging use of artificial intelligence, LinkedIn is now building AI into its platform to make the match between job seekers and employers more efficient. The wildcard for LinkedIn might be its ability to tap into Microsoft's AI progress. That might help the job-networking site surface often-overlooked candidates, like those who lack a four-year degree or have a criminal conviction, Professor Joseph Fuller from Harvard Business School said.
