However, the US space agency denied that the bright flash was a satellite of theirs.</p>

<p>Head of Kyiv's military administration Sergiy Popko said on Telegram that a "bright glow" was seen up in the skies over Kyiv. The phenomenon was witnessed at around 10:00 pm upon which an air raid alert was activated.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Even though the alert was put in place, the air defence was not in operation, as per Popko.</p>

<p>Memes started to flood the internet making odd guesses about what the glowing light in the sky could be. Amid all the panic and anxiety, a post by the Ukrainian military claimed that it was a NASA satellite reentering the Earth's atmosphere.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

Zelensky&nbsp;addressed the gathering and&nbsp;criticised Russia’s treatment of the Muslim-minority Tatar community in Kremlin-controlled Crimea and vowed to recapture the peninsula.</p>

<p>“Russia’s attempt to enslave Ukraine...began exactly with the occupation of Crimea, exactly with repressions against Crimean, Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar freedom and of Crimean Muslims,” said Zelensky, reported AFP. Russia captured the Black Sea territory from Ukraine in 2014, a move which had garnered significant criticism from Kyiv and its allies in the West.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Tatar community accounted for at least 12 to 15 per cent of the two million Crimea residents. Reports suggest that after Moscow took over Crimea, it banned the traditional assembly of the Tatar Muslim minority also known as Mejlis. Additionally, Russia has also declared it an extremist organisation and has jailed members of the community since, citing security concerns.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“There is no alternative for Ukraine, or for the world, other than the de-occupation of Crimea. We will return to Crimea,” said the Ukrainian president.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Zelensky also conferred awards to several Muslim Ukrainian servicemen and thanked the Muslim community for defending Ukraine, during the gathering for ‘iftar’ the meal breaking the daily fast during the holy month of Ramadan. He also said that Kyiv “values ​​every person, values every community,” adding that diversity is a part of the country’s character.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Ukraine is grateful to the Muslims of our country and to everyone in the Muslim community of the world who, like us, longs for peace and protection from evil,” said the Ukrainian president. He also later took to Twitter and wrote, “Despite the sadness and pain of war, may the holy Ramadan be bright for you! <p>Former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev has suggested that the troops may have to march onto cities as far as Kyiv or Lviv in Ukraine amid reports that Moscow was facing significant setbacks in the battle in the east.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Considered a strong ally of President Vladimir Putin, Medvedev's statement may have unwittingly given away the position Kremlin finds itself in currently.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Nothing can be ruled out here. If you need to get to Kyiv, then you need to go to Kyiv, if to Lviv, then you need to go to Lviv in order to destroy this infection,” Medvedev was quoted as saying by Russian news agency RIA Novosti.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The battle for the eastern city of Bakhmut has significantly drained the resources of the Russian side, according to multiple media reports. Since the war began over a year ago, no place has witnessed a battle as fierce as Bakhmut.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Medvedev, who served as Russia's president from 2008 to 2012, has emerged as one of the most hawkish leaders in recent times — routinely issuing&nbsp;blustery and hyperbolic statements.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Earlier this week, he issued a hypersonic missile attack threat to the International Criminal Court (ICC) after the global organisation&nbsp;issued an arrest warrant against Putin.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I'm afraid, gentlemen, everyone is answerable to God and missiles. It's quite possible to imagine how a hypersonic Oniks fired from a Russian warship in the North Sea strikes the court building in the Hague," Medvedev wrote on Telegram.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"It can't be shot down, I'm afraid. And the court is just a pathetic international organisation, not the people of a NATO country. So, they won't start a war. They'll be scared. And no one will be sorry."</p>

<p>Japan's Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on Tuesday reached Bucha, the region where Russian forces faced accusation of massacring Ukrainian civilians during their Kyiv-region suburb's weeks-long occupation last year.</p>

<p>Kishida expressed strong "indignation" during his visit to Bucha. "As I step foot in Bucha today, and witness all the brutality that took place here, I have a strong sentiment of indignation," he stated in translated remarks.</p>

<p>Later in the day,&nbsp;Kishida laid a wreath&nbsp;at the memorial for fallen Ukrainian soldiers in&nbsp;Kyiv city centre, accompanied by an honour guard.</p>

<p>Kishida arrived in Kyiv on Tuesday, the Japanese media reported after the foreign ministry announced his surprise visit to Ukraine.</p>

<p>Earlier today, public broadcaster NHK stated Kishida "could be seen getting off a train at a station in the centre of Kyiv", where he is likely to hold talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the foreign ministry of Ukraine on Tuesday welcomed Kishida's arrival in Kyiv, hailing his "historic" visit as a key show of solidarity.</p>

<p>"This historic visit is a sign of solidarity and strong cooperation between (Ukraine and Japan). We are grateful to Japan for its strong support and contribution to our future victory," said First Deputy Foreign Minister Emine Dzheppar on Twitter.</p>

<p>Earlier this month, Italy and France said that they have finalised technical talks for the joint delivery of a SAMP/T-MAMBA air defence system to Kyiv in the spring of this year. The European-made defence system is said to be the only one that can intercept ballistic missiles. Additionally, it can also track dozens of targets and intercept 10 at the same time.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a joint conference with Rutte in Kyiv, Zelenskyy said that Ukraine has a "common understanding with the Netherlands that there should not be any taboo on the supply and support of weapons to our army, to our Ukraine, because it supports and protects our sovereignty."&nbsp;</p>

<p>Earlier this month, some members of the Dutch Parliament visited the Ukrainian capital where they discussed the security situation with the government officials.&nbsp;</p>

Cohen left Turkey for Poland from where he took an overnight train along with his delegation from the Polish border city of Przemysl to Kyiv.</p>

Apart from the weapons, the West is also providing Ukrainian troops with Intel which is helping it push back the Russians.

<p>"Russians must participate exactly on the same conditions as all other athletes. Any additional conditions or criteria are unwelcome, especially any that have political overtones, which are completely unacceptable for the Olympic movement," said Pozdnyakov.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On Monday, Ukraine's presidential aide Mykhaylo Podolyak took to Twitter to post a message, terming IOC as a 'promoter of war'.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>"(The) IOC is a promoter of war, murder and destruction. The IOC watches with pleasure Russia destroying Ukraine and then offers Russia a platform to promote genocide and encourages their further killings," tweeted Podolyak.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Obviously Russian money that buys Olympic hypocrisy doesn't have a smell of Ukrainian blood. Right, Mr Bach? added the presidential aide, referring to IOC president Thomas Bach.&nbsp;</p>

<p>An auto garage in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv has emerged as a surprise source of battlefield resources for the resistance forces during the ongoing conflict with Russia. The shop, which mainly specialised in repairs before the Russian invasion of Ukraine started in 2022, is transforming old cars, trucks and busses into military vehicles which are capable of transporting drones and weapons.</p>

<p>"We are not a wealthy country, and the state cannot provide all our soldiers with armoured four-wheel vehicles, so pickups are a compromise," an Ukrainian volunteer called Anton Senenko told AFP.</p>

<p>"Very often, there are breakdowns with cars in peacetime. But in wartime, such a breakdown can lead to a tragedy," he said when asked about the reason behind his initiative.</p>

<p>The vehicles being used by the garage are mainly donated or fundraised by the Ukrainian volunteers involved in the initiative. According to AFP, there were also a number of cars and other vehicles which were imported from other countries including Estonia, Poland and Latvia.</p>

<p>"We don't just change lubricants and filters, we fully prepare the entire machine for the harsh conditions in which it will work on the front line," Senenko said.</p>

<p>Due to the specialisation needed to make the vehicles battle-ready, the garage has included special instructors in the effort and the mechanics were even taught how to mount a Starlink internet dish.</p>
