India strongly slammed Pakistan in its Right of Reply at United Nations General Assembly after Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan raked up Kashmir issue during his virtual address to the assembly. India said that Pakistan had established history of supporting terrorists. Sneha Dubey, First Secretary at UNGA said that terrorists enjoyed "free pass" in Pakistan.

"Regrettably, this is not the first time the leader of Pakistan has misused platforms provided by the UN to propagate false and malicious propaganda against my country, and seeking in vain to divert the world's attention from the sad state of his country where terrorists enjoy free pass while the lives of ordinary people, especially those belonging to the minority communities, are turned upside down," said Dubey.

"Member States are aware that Pakistan has an established history and policy of harbouring, aiding and actively supporting terrorists. This is a country that has been globally recognized as one openly supporting, training, financing and arming terrorists as a matter of State policy. It holds the ignoble record of hosting the largest number of terrorists proscribed by the UN Security Council," she added.

She said that Imran Khan statements were an attempt to "spew falsehoods". She also slammed him for commenting on internal matters of India.

"This work has been going on for the last one year, this will be Kashmir's first International Hockey stadium. This stadium is 102 by 60 metres, the work is still on and we will start with national tournaments and later international games too. Within days it will be completed now. Around Rs 50 million has been spent on this stadium. The turf is incomplete but children are so eager to play on this field. Pulwama youth has always shown more interest in hockey, but kids wanted a place to learn. When international hockey players come to play here, it will motivate our young generation to pick up this sport. and our youth are very talented but they just didn't have facilities. and I am sure our children will play internationally soon," said Syed Javed Iqbal, Lecturer, Physical Education.

Youth from Pulwama have always shown interest in this sport and their long-pending demand for a stadium. The facility would aid in the revitalisation of hockey in the district.&nbsp;

"We are all extremely happy and a lot of children come to us asking us when this will be completed so that they can play. They are so eager to play on this ground and we have told them it's a matter of days now. Our children are talented, Pulwama has a lot of talent and now we have this turf and I am sure we will do great in hockey as well," said Imtiaz Ahmad Pandit, a physical education teacher of Boys Higher Secondary Pulwama.&nbsp;

Experts from across the country have been brought in to help with the construction of the turf. They are making sure that this becomes a stadium of international standards.&nbsp;

"There is no doubt that we can't hold international matches here, We are a FIH approved agency, whatever materials we use are FIH approved. We have been working on the levels and turf for two weeks now and we have been installing turf for the last 6 days, within two weeks this stadium will be ready," said S Raja, Technical Manager.

But the most excited are the players. Hockey players in Kashmir are already visiting the stadium while it's being made. They are eagerly waiting for it to open so that they can start playing on it.&nbsp;

"I am extremely happy and it's great news for all of us, including players from Pulwama. Kashmiri players have a platform now and can represent the country at international level, people had lost interest and now with these turfs, youngsters are again picking up this sport. Players will be motivated now to play the sport. We will learn so much from the international players playing in these stadiums," said Inderpreet Singh, a hockey player.&nbsp;

The players also say that watching international players play in this stadium would motivate more and more youngsters to play hockey.&nbsp;

''I am extremely happy and it's a very big step, it will motivate the players, I went from here to see the turf. There were players from across different districts of Kashmir just to watch the turf. which means how eager they are to play this sport. The youth gets motivated when they see players wearing Indian jerseys, it motivates us to play more and better. ' said Salman Nissar, a hockey player.&nbsp;

While this will be the only international hockey stadium in the Kashmir valley, this also is the first big sports investment that the government has made in south Kashmir. To make sure that Kashmir produces hockey players of international repute.&nbsp;

Built at the cost of Rs 50 million, hockey players in Kashmir valley are joyous. This hockey stadium is the first of its kind in the Kashmir valley. The stadium is built at the Government Boys Higher Secondary School Pulwama under the Augmentation of Sports Infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha laid the foundation stone for the Hockey Astro Turf Stadium after his first visit to Pulwama in September 2020. Youth from Pulwama have always shown interest in this sport and their long-pending demand for a stadium. The facility would aid in the revitalisation of hockey in the district. "We are all extremely happy and a lot of children come to us asking us when this will be completed so that they can play. They are so eager to play on this ground and we have told them it's a matter of days now. Our children are talented, Pulwama has a lot of talent and now we have this turf and I am sure we will do great in hockey as well," said Imtiaz Ahmad Pandit, a physical education teacher of Boys Higher Secondary Pulwama. Experts from across the country have been brought in to help with the construction of the turf. They are making sure that this becomes a stadium of international standards. But the most excited are the players. Hockey players in Kashmir are already visiting the stadium while it's being made. They are eagerly waiting for it to open so that they can start playing on it. "I am extremely happy and it's great news for all of us, including players from Pulwama. Kashmiri players have a platform now and can represent the country at international level, people had lost interest and now with these turfs, youngsters are again picking up this sport. Players will be motivated now to play the sport. We will learn so much from the international players playing in these stadiums," said Inderpreet Singh, a hockey player. The players also say that watching international players play in this stadium would motivate more and more youngsters to play hockey. ''I am extremely happy and it's a very big step, it will motivate the players, I went from here to see the turf. There were players from across different districts of Kashmir just to watch the turf. which means how eager they are to play this sport. The youth gets motivated when they see players wearing Indian jerseys, it motivates us to play more and better. ' said Salman Nissar, a hockey player. While this will be the only international hockey stadium in the Kashmir valley, this also is the first big sports investment that the government has made in south Kashmir. To make sure that Kashmir produces hockey players of international repute.

After years of Hiatus, Kashmir Golf Courses are back to hosting international tournaments. With the most picturesque backdrop and best terrain, an international tournament has started in Srinagar's Royal Springs Golf Course.

More than 126 professional golfers from India and abroad are participating in the tournament.&nbsp;

The government of Jammu and Kashmir is promoting the valley as the golfing destination since Kashmir's golf courses are considered to be the best in India.&nbsp;

''It's an international golf tournament which is being hosted by the Professional Golf Tour of India. It's a prestigious golf tournament. It's a very proud moment for us to host 126 professional golfers, one among them is Udaymane who represented the country at Olympics,"&nbsp;said Javaid Bakshi, Secretary of the&nbsp;golf course.&nbsp;"He was leading the pack yesterday.

&nbsp;

An inspection team arrives before the players to check the golf course, Bakshi informed. "They have a course director who does all the planning. We are lucky and proud that Mr Sampat who is the tournament director has rated this golf course as one of the best in the world. It's a big feather in the cap of Union Territory. These golfers will go as ambassadors and promote Kashmir as a golfing destination,'' Bakshi added.

The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has six golf courses in total. Out of these, three are in Srinagar, one in Pahalgam,&nbsp;one in Gulmarg and another one in Jammu. The Royal Spring Golf Course has 18 holes with three lakes, a club house and around 8.5km pathway for cart. The golf course is spread over 100 acres of land.&nbsp;

''Royal Springs golf course is scenic but it has got challenges for the golfers. Currently, 126 golfers are playing here. The course is planned so meticulously that it challenges the golfers,"&nbsp;said Sampath Chari, Tournament Director.&nbsp;"There are very good pathways on which you can score. You have got uphill and downhill, and the greens are very tricky. Wind speeds are different and the mountain at the back and the front make it more difficult.

Adoring the beauty and talent of Kashmir, he added, "It's fantastic to promote Kashmir as the golf destination. This has the potential of holding big tournaments here. We need to nurture young talent. We need to train the young so they pick up this sport as a professional. If it opens up a bit more, sky's the limit.'' &nbsp;

The golfers participating in the tournament are all praise for the beauty and landscape of the Royal Spring Golf Course. They also say that it has more potential and should be opened to kids so that they can take it up as their professional sport.&nbsp;

''It doesn't feel like any other golf courses in India due to its scenic beauty, just the terrain is very different.&nbsp;It is my first time here and it is great to be here. This golf course has much more potential, it can go on the globe and become an international destination for golfers. We want more people to play the sport. The more the kids play the sport, the more people will get to know about it,'' said Aman Raj, a golfer.&nbsp;

Watch | Taliban's balancing act on Kashmir: Nations should resolve issues via dialogue

The valley of Kashmir is being enthralled by a young voice these days. Every morning, the 20-year-old female radio jockey would take up issues faced by women and discuss the grievances of locals on her show to get their matters resolved.&nbsp;

Samaniya Bhat is the youngest radio jockey in the valley and the first female RJ from north Kashmir.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She recently graduated from Baramulla College in Mass Communication and Journalism and has been working with Radio Chinar 90.4 FM since February this year.&nbsp;&nbsp;The radio station auditioned more than 250 candidates before signing her for the position.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Samaniya has also become a champion of issues related to women. She hosts a show called Halla Bol, where she speaks to young achievers— mostly women—from north Kashmir.&nbsp;The station is fast becoming a voice for the people from the region.&nbsp;&nbsp;

“I was always told by my teachers to take up radio jockeying, but I wasn’t keen. But then I got a call for the auditions one day, and finally got selected. And here I am, loving every bit of it. Radio is a very creative field. When you get to speak to listeners, you get to know what’s happening in their lives. I get calls and they discuss their problems. There was a girl recently who spoke about how she wasn’t allowed to study further after graduation and was made to sit at home. She told me that whenever she listens to me, it gives hope,” she said.&nbsp;

Samaniya has become an inspiration for the youth in the valley. She is the first one from her area to take up radio jockey as a profession. She says she has pushed the barrier and wants other girls to follow their dreams, too.&nbsp;&nbsp;

“Most of the&nbsp;time,&nbsp;I get calls from women. They get happy whenever they talk to me. They sometimes think that I am an old lady and usually get inspired by my story. I am from the old town&nbsp;of&nbsp;Baramulla,&nbsp;and not many girls from the area take up such a profession. I am the first girl from Baramulla to work as an RJ. A lot of girls now want to do things which are different. Most of them who call me say that they would have been married off otherwise after graduation, but are now resisting their families and pursuing further studies. My advice to many such women is:&nbsp;always listen to your heart and do what you want to do,” she said.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The radio station is based out of North Kashmir’s Sopore town and is run by a team of four youngsters. The station has become a hit within a short span of time. The station mostly takes up local issues and has gained a lot of popularity due to that.&nbsp;

“It’s becoming famous with each passing day. We talk about the local issues and grievances, and we raise them with the local administration to get those issues resolved. We also give a platform to the locals to showcase their talents. They appreciate this part of radio Chinar,” said&nbsp;Sahil Muzaffar, radio jockey and station head of Radio Chinar.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"'It's a nice initiative since we were fighting for it. It was a struggle for an art gallery by our senior artists. I think we have finally reached the goal. Now the government has done the inaugural&nbsp;show. I hope this will give a new dimension to Kashmir contemporary art. The people of the valley will be able to witness&nbsp;art. Till now, they were not aware because of the platform issue. Obviously when people will&nbsp;display the work, the new generation artists will come there and get inspired. Art galleries are meant to inspire people,"&nbsp;said Naushad Gayoor, an artist.&nbsp;

The Jammu and Kashmir government with the help of the central&nbsp;government started work on this project three years ago. The Shergari Palace was built in 1772 when Afghan governor Jawansher Khan ruled Kashmir. It was later used by the Dogra rulers after which the complex was turned into erstwhile state Assembly and Legislative Council and also used as Administrative Secretariat.

'"We had submitted a DPR to the government of India for the financial assistance of around 137 crores for the whole complex. This will be the first kind of complex in Jammu and Kashmir that will become the cultural centre where we are going to display various artefacts which we are getting from SPS Museum and they will be displayed here in various buildings. So far, this building is concerned we have already converted the stone building into the art museum," said Mushtaq Ahmad Beigh, Deputy Director, Archives.

"We have paintings from various institutes. The work started in 2019 is still ongoing. We have restored it in its original glory. The khatamband ceiling&nbsp;was introduced in Kashmir with this building. The art was called mouj. We have displayed more than 150 paintings here. The artists can come here and we will provide the space for exhibitions. There will be an international art gallery."

Since there are no art galleries in the Kashmir valley, this centre has been getting a lot of response already. The entree has been kept free and anyone can visit it during 10 am-5 pm every day, barring Monday.&nbsp;

"The response&nbsp;is very good. People associated with art, as well as students, are coming to this place. We are getting a great response. We started it on August 15 and it's been going really well. The officers here have worked day and night on this. This is the first art museum in Kashmir. The private institutions are also coming here," said Ghulam Jeelani Malik, officer in the museum.&nbsp;

The government believes that this can become the hub of art and heritage in Kashmir.

A study released recently by the Finance Minister of India Nirmala Sitharaman&nbsp;deemed as "Indian Sports Goods Industry: Strategies for Tapping the Export Potential" revealed that "Kashmir willow bat is one such product, which holds significance". This is because it is made from some of the "best quality wood in the world".&nbsp;

The bat makers in Kashmir are eagerly waiting for the GI Tag.

''It's a good step by the government and we have been expecting it. The government is helping the small scale industries at the moment and due to this Kashmir willow will get the recognition it deserves. The English willow is considered good but the Kashmir willow is as good. And if we get the tagging it would help us. The top grade willow bats are good and need to be promoted as much. If we have GI Tag, the sales will go up.'' said Asif Majeed Parray, Owner MS Bat Factory.

There are more than 200 bat making factories in Kashmir and hundreds of people earning their livelihoods.&nbsp;

The ongoing pandemic had badly hit the industry and there were hardly any new orders. However, now the makers are hoping that things will change after GI Tagging.&nbsp;

''If the government takes this step, the GI tag will benefit us a lot, it would be great for us. The maximum number of bats are made in Kashmir. Now with the tagging, we can send our bats to every country. We can sell online with the tag and earn customer trust. We make more than 2 lakh bats every month in Kashmir in around 200 factories. It will be our honour to make bats that will be picked by international players. Our bats have recently been taken by two specially-abled Kashmiris who are selected in the Indian team to play in an ODI in Bangladesh.'' said Javaid Ahmad, MJS Bat Factory Owner.&nbsp;

The Kashmir willow bats fetch a maximum of Rs 3,500 rupees per bat, as against the English willow bats whose retail price range is between $220 to $450 per bat in the international markets.

Kashmir willow bats to get GI tagging, study reveals this will serve as a great marketing strategy

Amid concerns in India that Afghan soil under the Taliban regime can be used for terrorist activities against it, the insurgent group has said it has the right to speak out in favour of Muslims anywhere, including in Kashmir, though it does not have a policy of conducting "armed operations" against any country.

Suhail Shaheen, Taliban spokesman for its political office in Doha, in an exclusive interview to BBC through video link on September 2, said, "We will raise our voice and say that Muslims are your own people, your own citizens and they are entitled to equal rights under your law." As Muslims, it was the group's right to speak out for Muslims living in Kashmir and any other country, Suhail Shaheen said while speaking from Doha.

While recalling the terms of the Doha agreement with the U.S., he said they had "no policy of conducting armed operations against any country".

Shaheen's remarks came days after the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi said Indian envoy to Qatar Deepak Mittal met Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanekzai, the head of the Taliban's Political Office in Doha, at the request of the group. In the meeting, Mittal conveyed to Stanekzai that Afghanistan's soil should not be used for anti-Indian activities and terrorism.

It was the first publicly acknowledged formal diplomatic engagement that came two weeks after the Taliban seized control of Afghanistan. MEA Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said at his weekly briefing on September 2 that India's immediate focus in Afghanistan is to ensure that Afghan soil is not used for terrorist activities against it and it was still "very early days" to talk about any possible recognition to the Taliban.

On a question on Mittal's meeting with Stanekzai, he said, "We used the opportunity to convey our concerns, whether it is in getting people out of Afghanistan or on the issue of terrorism. We received a positive response. "

Regarding the Haqqani Network, Shaheen said that the propaganda against the Haqqanis was based on mere claims. He said Haqqani is not a group but they are part of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. "They are the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan," he added.

His remarks came after Al-Qaeda, through its Al-Sahab media, asked the Muslim community to "free" other Muslim lands after the liberation of Afghanistan, putting Kashmir on the list of targets of jihad.

Besides Kashmir, it shortlisted the Levant, comprising Iraq, Syria, Jordan, and Lebanon; the Maghreb, or the region in northwest Africa consisting of Libya, Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania, Tunisia, and Somalia; and Yemen as its priorities.

To boost horticulture in the Kashmir valley, the government is bringing in new scientific techniques and methods for the farmers to produce world-class fruits. Horticulture is one of the many industries in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir and contributes to around eight percent of the GDP.

India: Government introduces scientific ways for apple farming

To boost horticulture production in the Kashmir valley, the government is bringing in new scientific techniques and methods to help farmers produce world-class fruits.

Horticulture is one of the main industries in the Union Territory and contributes around 8 per cent to the state’s GDP. Amongst them, Kashmiri apple production takes the biggest chunk of the sector.

Hence, in order to further boost the production and expand the market for Kashmiri apples across the globe, the government has been convincing farmers to set up high-density apple orchards.

Under the high-density farming technique, farmers use their land more efficiently, increasing yields without increasing the space devoted to planting. More importantly, high-density farming shows that farmers can make a living from farming without much, contrary to the common belief that successful farming is land-intensive.

“Our economy is based on horticulture and our Kashmiri apples are renowned all over the world. So to compete with the other countries in apple cultivation, the government has come up with the idea of setting up high-density orchards. It accommodates more plants and helps produce high-quality grade A apples,” said Javaid Ahmad Bhat, Chief Horticulture Officer, Budgam.

In Kashmir, Budgam district has been the centre of this transformation. Here, hundreds of acres of land, which was earlier used by brick kiln owners, have been now converted into apple orchards, bringing economic benefits to the them without taking a toll on the environment.

“In Budgam, several acres of land was earlier used for the production of bricks. We approached the owners and convinced them to grow apples. We helped them by providing a subsidy of up to 50 per cent. The harvest was much more valuable than what they were getting earlier. We have now successfully converted thousands of acres of lands that earlier spaced brick kiln to orchards. '' Bhat said. &nbsp;

Ghulam Ahmad Pal, a farmer and former brick kiln owner in Budgam, said ever since he shifted to apple cultivation under the new method, his earnings have doubled

“The credit goes to the horticulture department. The officials helped us a lot. Earlier, we used to get only Rs 5,000&nbsp;rent on a kanal (0.12 acre) of land for brick production. We had no apple orchards in the area. Then the officials approached us and apprised us about this new apple cultivation technique. Now, we are getting more than Rs 50,000 for growing apples on a kanal of land. They gave us the plant, provided the necessary infrastructure and gave a 50 per cent subsidy. They also helped us with pruning and cutting. I am happy that after retirement, I have taken to farming,” he said.

Pal’s success story has also inspired several other brick kiln owners who are now taking up apple cultivation.

Even as Taliban promises to be different this time, there are signs of terrorist organisations aligning themselves with the new de facto rulers of Afghanistan, with al Qaeda setting its sights on India's Kashmir in a 'congratulatory letter'.

Al&nbsp;Qaeda, &nbsp;the terror group at the heart of the 20-year US war in Afghanistan, "congratulated" the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/south-asia/we-expect-us-to-reopen-embassy-in-kabul-have-trade-relations-taliban-409822">Taliban</a> for "defeating the Americans". It was the 9/11 terror attacks of 2001 orchestrated by Osama bin Laden that led to the invasion of Afghanistan by the US, and the killing of the al Qaeda chief&nbsp;in 2011 in Pakistan.

In a letter made available on social media, the group said it is the "third time that the Afghan nation within a span of less than two centuries has successfully expelled an invading force."

Significantly, it also mentioned Kashmir.

"Liberate the Levant, Somalia, Yemen, Kashmir and the rest of the Islamic lands" from the "clutches of the enemy", it exhorted the Taliban.

It asked the new de facto rulers of Afghanistan to "prepare for the next stage of struggle" as it called for the "liberation" of Palestine land from Israel, asserting that the "victory" of the Taliban in Afghanistan was a "prelude" to the liberation of Palestine.

Pakistan has deep ties with the Taliban and has been accused of supporting the Islamist group as it battled the U.S.-backed government in Kabul – charges denied by Islamabad. When the Taliban captured Kabul last week, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan said Afghans had broken the “shackles of slavery”.

Pakistan, along with Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), was one of only three countries to recognise the Taliban when they were in control in Afghanistan (from 1996 until 2001).
