Donald Trump's campaign has lodged a formal complaint against the UK's Labour Party, accusing it of meddling in the upcoming US presidential election. The complaint, filed with the Federal Election Commission, claims that the British party has been recruiting members to campaign on behalf of Trump's political rival, Democratic Party presidential nominee, US Vice-President Kamala Harris, in key battleground states.

In a letter rife with historical references, including the American Revolution, Trump's legal team requested an immediate investigation into "blatant foreign interference".

It stated, "When representatives of the British government previously sought to go door-to-door in America, it did not end well for them."

The letter noted the recent 243rd anniversary of the Battle of Yorktown and said "This past week marked the 243 anniversary of the surrender of British forces at the Battle of Yorktown, a military victory that ensured that the United States would be politically independent of Great Britian." Here, Trump's campaign misspelt Britain, whether by mistake or on purpose, it is not known.

The Trump campaign's grievance centres around reports that Labour Party volunteers have been campaigning for Harris. According to the Guardian, these volunteers are campaigning on their own, not in an official capacity.

However, the letter demands an investigation into what it claims are "apparent illegal foreign national contributions made by the Labour Party of the United Kingdom," to Harris's campaign.

It then goes on to refer to a "volunteer exemption" in US election law that allows foreign nationals to volunteer but prohibits compensation of any type.

"They (foreign nationals) may not be compensated, foreign nationals may not make expenditures, and they may not direct or control activities of US campaigns," states the letter.

The complaint cites a since-deleted LinkedIn post by Sofia Patel, head of operations at the Labour Party, in which she reportedly mentioned that 100 current and former party members were heading to the US to campaign.

Trump files complaint against UK Labour Party, claims 'blatant foreign interference' in 2024 US Elections

Weeks before the US Presidential elections, Democratic circles feared that the race could be slipping further away from Vice President Kamala Harris.

Notably, margins between the two candidates are close in the seven battleground states, which are likely to decide the contest.

However, the Democrats still think Harris can defeat Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

Meanwhile, at the same time, they are privately having discussions, expressing fear that the battleground polling appeared to be moving in Trump’s direction over the last two weeks, The Hill reported.

There have been cracks in the "blue wall" of Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, with Senate incumbents in both Pennsylvania and Wisconsin now in toss-up races, according to the Cook Political Report.

Generally, the three northern states move in the same direction in the presidential race, but Harris has been losing ground to Trump, particularly in Wisconsin.

“Everyone keeps saying, ‘It’s close.’ Yes, it’s close, but are things trending our way? No. And no one wants to openly admit that,” said one Democratic strategist. “Could we still win? Maybe. Should anyone be even slightly optimistic right now? No.”

Democrats worry US presidential race slipping away from Kamala Harris

"Hands off my porn," proclaims the latest election campaign in the United States, urging voters to refrain from voting for Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

While Trump infamously made headlines for his connection to Stormy Daniels, a porn star, the American adult industry believes that if re-elected, he would be the reason for the industry's shutdown. To save their livelihoods, they've launched the #HandsOffMyPorn campaign, spending $200,000 so far on ads.

#HandsOffMyPorn campaign

Thanks to this campaign, people watching porn in America are now seeing ads asking them to vote on Nov 5, to "keep doing this".

Appearing before the pornographic content, porn stars tell the viewer: "Hey, I know you're busy. I know you're doing something. Hold on. If you want to keep doing this, you really need to vote on November 5... Enjoy!"

The campaign, as per AFP, is mainly targeted at men, a demographic in which Trump enjoys a strong lead, all thanks to his machismo-drenched pitch.

According to the Institute for Family Studies, men are four times more likely than women to watch porn. These "public service announcements" are being played for viewers in battleground states like Pennsylvania, Arizona, and Georgia.

The industry veteran warned that a ban on the porn industry could be a "lightning rod" for wider issues such as trans rights, same-sex marriage and even reproductive rights.

"It's always the easiest thing to attack, because it represents people's uncertainty and fear about the changing morals of sexuality and of gender fluidity," she remarked.

Randall acknowledged that Trump "doesn't actually care whether or not it's outlawed," but said, "It's the people around him, like (Trump running mate) J.D. Vance, these ultra-right-wing conservatives, who want to ban porn."

US Election 2024: Donald Trump Rallies In Hurricane-Hit North Carolina

A judge in Michigan on Monday rejected an effort by the Republican Party to block some Americans who are living overseas from voting in the battleground state.

The Republican National Committee filed a lawsuit earlier this month arguing that election laws in the state improperly allowed US citizens living abroad who had never lived in Michigan - but whose relatives had - to vote there.

Michigan Court of Claims Judge Sima Patel said in a ruling that the language being challenged by Republicans was consistent with federal and state law.

"There is no ground to invalidate it," Patel wrote.

A U.S. citizen who never lived in the US but who has a parent, legal guardian or spouse who last lived in Michigan is eligible to vote in the state so as long as the citizen has not registered or voted in another state, according to Michigan's secretary of state election officials manual.

At the time the lawsuit was filed, RNC Chairman Michael Whatley said citizens living in Michigan should not have "their votes cancelled by those who've never lived in the state."

The RNC did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the ruling.

Some 2.9 million US citizens living abroad were eligible to vote in 2020, though fewer than 8% of them did, according to the Federal Voting Assistance Program, a government entity that helps military members and other US citizens living abroad with election logistics.

A U.S. citizen who never lived in the US but who has a parent, legal guardian or spouse who last lived in Michigan is eligible to vote in the state so as long as the citizen has not registered or voted in another state, according to Michigan's secretary of state election officials manual. At the time the lawsuit was filed, RNC Chairman Michael Whatley said citizens living in Michigan should not have "their votes cancelled by those who've never lived in the state." The RNC did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the ruling. Some 2.9 million US citizens living abroad were eligible to vote in 2020, though fewer than 8% of them did, according to the Federal Voting Assistance Program, a government entity that helps military members and other US citizens living abroad with election logistics. US Elections: Michigan judge rejects GOP bid to block overseas voters in key battleground state

In another major electoral headache for Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris, a new survey has revealed that her popularity among Arab Americans has fallen sharply. A survey by Arab News/YouGov has found that GOP candidate Donald Trump is leading Harris with an impressive 45 per cent support among Arab Americans.

Harris is only preferred by 43 per cent of the respondents; whereas 4 per cent said they would vote for Green Party candidate Jill Stein and 6 per cent said they were undecided.

The poll surveyed around 500 Arab Americans across the country in late September.

What’s at stake?

There is a significant Arab American population in Michigan, a swing state where both Trump and Harris have been vying for dominance.

Notably, Kamala Harris’s popularity here is faring lower than what Biden enjoyed in 2020. Owing to Biden’s open support to Israel in the ongoing West Asia crisis, more and more Arab Americans are opting to vote for Trump.

The Arab News/YouGov also revealed that the Israel-Gaza issue and the overall crisis in West Asia remained the topmost priority for 29 per cent of Arab Americans.

Arab-American voters all set to ditch Kamala over support to Israel? Poll suggests so

Liz Cheney, a former US Republican congresswoman, has now been backing Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris for the November 5 elections and has stressed that the Republican women can vote for Harris, and they don’t need to tell anyone about it.

Cheney, who has been a longtime opponent of abortion rights, condemned bans imposed by Republicans on the procedure.

Speaking during three joint events with Vice President Harris in three swing states, Cheney, 58, said that only Harris had the compassion to deal with the issue.

Earlier, she also celebrated the demise of Roe v. Wade and warned women aren’t getting needed reproductive health care after the Supreme Court’s momentous 2022 decision.

She again made it clear that she still opposes abortion, adding, “I have been very troubled, deeply troubled by what I have watched happen in so many states. I have been troubled by the extent to which you have women who, as the vice president said, in some cases, have died, who can’t get medical treatment that they need because providers are worried about criminal liability.”

Cheney said, “We are facing a situation today where I think that it’s an untenable one" and America needs a president “who understands how important compassion is, who understands that these shouldn’t be political issues, that we ought to be able to have these discussions and say, ‘You know what? Even if you are pro-life, as I am, I do not believe, for example, that the state of Texas ought to have the right, as they’re currently suing to do, to get access to women’s medical records."

Liz Cheney urges Republican women to side with Harris in US elections over abortion rights

The world is watching the US elections, now just two weeks away, with great interest. Will Donald Trump, the 45th president, make a comeback or will the US finally get its first lady president? The stakes are high here in New Delhi too, with observers now gauging the impact, both positive and negative, on the Indo-US ties taking into consideration the policies of the two leaders. People are curious who, out of the two, will be better for India.

Economics

Managing the economic ties with the US under a Trump presidency won’t be as smooth as it has been generally. Trump has several times labelled India as “an abuser” of import tariffs. Just earlier this month, Trump said “The biggest charger of all is India.”

“India is a very big charger. We have a great relationship with India. I did. And especially the leader, Modi. He's a great leader. Great man. Really is a great man. He's brought it together. He's done a great job. But they probably charge as much,” he said.

Trump has vowed to introduce "reciprocal trade" policies if voted to power. This conservative approach to international trade may not bode very well for India’s exports to the US, our largest trading partner. The US is the only country amongst India’s top 10 trading partners who we have a trade surplus with. We can’t afford to lose a stable economic partnership with a nation that is a big source of foreign exchange.

On the other hand, Harris might also opt for some protectionist policies but she is largely expected to not go overboard. The Biden administration, for example, recently blocked a Japanese company, Nippon Steel, from acquiring US Steel on national security grounds. The deal worth $14.9bn was met with scepticism amid silent takeover concerns. It shows even Harris won’t give even one of the USA’s top allies a free pass and erect protectionist measures.

Technological advancement

Both Trump and Harris are expected to take a confrontational approach with China, which is expected to benefit India. The Biden administration, for example, has taken steps to ensure the balance of technological power between India and China.

When PM Modi visited the US last month for the Quad summit, the two nations signed a deal to set up a semiconductor fabrication plant in India. The initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET) between the US and India is another major example of this deepening partnership.

The deal, signed in May 2022, opened a broad spectrum in areas including artificial intelligence, quantum technology, space, 6G mobile tech and semiconductor supply chain.

Harris is expected to follow in Biden’s footsteps to further shift this balance of power towards India away from China.

Trump’s confrontationist approach is also set to benefit India as more and more nations will try to minimise operations risks by shifting out of China.

Trump has threatened he will impose 60% tariffs on Chinese imports into the country. This is expected to trigger an exodus from China, potentially benefitting nations in Southeast Asia and India.

Diplomacy

Given the Narendra Modi government’s past experience of working with Trump and shared conservative values, New Delhi may prefer Trump in the White House as long as diplomacy and matters of international affairs are concerned.

Both Trump and Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) share ideologies grounded in nationalism, patriotism, and tradition. Some influential Indian nationalist thinkers have even drawn comparisons between their views and those of American conservatives, pointing to a shared ideological base. This overlap could create a more comfortable diplomatic atmosphere.

Additionally, both Modi and Trump see themselves as strong, decisive leaders, each capable of driving significant change. Trump's admiration for firm leadership aligns with Modi's style, hinting at a mutual understanding that could make collaboration smoother between the two nations.

At a time when tensions are running high between India and Canada, a close US ally; Delhi will like to put its money on Trump.

Immigration

Immigration remains on Trump’s top agenda. The GOP candidate has vowed to revive his hardline approach and take decisive and forceful action against illegal immigration, suggesting it would result in a “bloody story.”

He may even look to restrict H1B visas by requiring additional biometrics, delayed processing times, and wage mandates. This is going to impact Indians big time.

On the other hand, Harris is expected to favour more open immigration policies, including greater protection for undocumented immigrants and a better system for recruiting and retaining global talent.

Conclusion

It’s important to note that irrespective of who wins the Nov 5 polls, India-US ties enjoy overwhelming bipartisan support in Washington DC. It means that both major parties in the US support deepening the strategic ties between the two powers. As a developing power, New Delhi will look to co-operate and promote stability with the government in power.

US Elections 2024 | Donald Trump vs Kamala Harris: Who is better aligned with India’s interests?

Former US President and 2024 Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump during a rally in North Carolina on Monday (Oct 21) told his audience that the election choice is between incompetence and greatness.

Earlier the same day, Trump, in North Carolina, while surveying damage from Hurricane Helene, criticised the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for its response, accusing it of mishandling funds and resources.

A key theme of Trump's rally was border security. He lambasted the Biden administration for what he described as a complete failure to handle immigration.

Singling out his political rival Vice President Kamala Harris for her role, Trump said, "Biden put this total stupid person in charge of our border… She said, 'Keep those borders open. Let everybody come in'."

He vowed that if elected on November 5, he would end what he called a "migrant invasion" and use the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 "to target and dismantle every migrant criminal network operating on American soil."

Blasting FEMA, Trump in North Carolina, while surveying damage from Hurricane Helene, once again accused the agency of mishandling funds and resources. This claim, as per reports, was debunked weeks ago by US Rep. Chuck Edwards.

When asked if his criticism might affect election results in the state, Trump brushed it off, suggesting FEMA had failed to help adequately because it was distracted by helping illegal migrants.

Trump to discuss wars on multiple fronts in high-stakes exclusive interview: When and where to watch?

Elon Musk, at a town hall hosted by America PAC in Pennsylvania on Saturday (Oct 19), echoed former president Donald Trump's unfounded conspiracy theories regarding voting machines and their potential to rig elections, calling for paper ballots.

Know a lot about computers: Musk

Despite numerous debunking of such claims, Musk asserted, "I'm a technologist, I know a lot about computers…And I'm like, the last thing I would do is trust a computer program, because it's just too easy to hack".

Musk, as per ABC News, specifically mentioned Dominion Voting Systems, which recently settled a $787 million defamation lawsuit against Fox News for spreading false claims about its role in the 2020 election.

He linked Dominion to electoral losses for Republicans in Philadelphia and Arizona, suggesting it was "weird" that certain areas used these voting machines while others did not.

"There's always a sort of question of like, say, the Dominion voting machines. It is weird that the, you know, I think they're used in Philadelphia and in Maricopa County, but not in a lot of other places," said the Tesla CEO.

"Doesn't that seem like a heck of a coincidence?" he asked.

He concluded by advocating for a shift to exclusively using paper ballots. "Only do paper ballots, hand-counted," said Musk.

His comments come amid growing political involvement, having previously shown strong support for former President Donald Trump, including substantial financial contributions to his political action committee.

Dominion quickly rebutted Musk's assertions, clarifying that their machines do not operate in Philadelphia and that most jurisdictions already use paper ballots.

Musk pledges $1mn daily cash giveaways to Trump supporters as 2024 US Election battle heats up

With just 15 days left for the U.S. election, Kamala Harris has been focusing intensely on winning over Black male voters. However, her approach has faced criticism, particularly after a recent campaign ad targeting this demographic stirred controversy by taking a dig at Black men’s romantic lives.

The digital ads, which are mainly featured on platforms like Instagram and Snapchat, are styled like dating game shows to get younger audiences engaged in voting. In one of the ads, a man is shown approaching a group of women holding balloons. The women start asking him about his height, income, and whether he works out.

Kamala Harris rallies voters on 60th birthday as Trump takes McDonald's shift in Pennsylvania

With just 18 days until November 5, early voting has started in Louisiana, Hawaii, and Washington as of Friday, marking the official start of the 2024 election season.

With just 18 days until November 5, early voting has started in Louisiana, Hawaii, and Washington as of Friday, marking the official start of the 2024 election season. What is early voting? In the United States, voters typically have three ways to cast their ballots before Election Day, with mail-in voting being the most common for the upcoming presidential race between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris. Traditionally, voting involved heading to a polling station on Election Day to fill out a ballot in person. However, early in-person voting, absentee voting, and mail-in voting have become popular alternatives, giving voters the option to vote before the official Election Day, which is always the first Tuesday in November. Also read: Federal judge releases over 1,800 pages of previously sealed evidence in Trump election subversion case At least eight states automatically mail ballots to all registered voters, while 14 states still require voters to provide a reason to request an absentee ballot for mail-in voting. In three states—Alabama, Mississippi, and New Hampshire—there is no option for early in-person voting, though absentee voting may be available to those who qualify. What is absentee voting? Absentee voting is designed for people who are unable or choose not to vote in person at their designated polling station. This can be done through different methods such as voting at another location, mailing in a ballot, having someone else vote on their behalf (proxy voting), or voting online in some cases. Many believe that expanding access to absentee ballots helps increase voter participation by making the process more convenient, a practice known as "convenience voting." However, some countries require specific conditions, such as illness or travel, for absentee voting to be allowed. Who can vote absentee? Absentee voting is available for individuals who are unable to vote in person. This includes military personnel and their families who are stationed away from their home voting district, as well as U.S. citizens living abroad who once lived in the United States. However, US citizens born abroad who have never lived in the country may face restrictions on absentee voting. It's recommended to check the state's rules where the individual's parent or guardian last lived to determine eligibility. Also read: US presidential election: Kamala Harris leads Trump among Black voters in swing states, poll shows What is the window for early in-person voting? The window for early in-person voting varies from state to state, ranging from as short as three days to as long as 46 days before Election Day. In some places, early voting can start as early as 50 days before the election or as late as the Friday right before Election Day. Most states in the US allow voters to cast their ballots in person before November 5. According to The Center for Election Innovation & Research, nearly 97% of Americans of voting age live in a state that offers early voting. The number of people voting early increased between 2016 and 2020, largely because states expanded early voting options. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 also caused a sharp rise in early voting as more people chose to avoid the crowds at polling stations on Election Day. (With inputs from agencies)

Former United States (US) president and current Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump paced his rally stage in silence for nearly 20 minutes Friday (Oct 18) night in Detroit after his microphone cut out. A report by the news agency Associated Press said that Trump was about to wax on about one of his favourite subjects, tariffs, working up to naming it by first teasing “the most beautiful word in the dictionary.” Very quickly afterwards, the sound went down. 'Won't pay the bill for this stupid company...' Trump roamed around the stage for some 20 minutes, before returning to the microphone after the audio started working again. “Well thank you, everybody. Thank you. So now what happens is I won’t pay the bill for this stupid company that rented us this crap. I won’t pay the bill and then we’ll have a story that Trump didn’t pay the bill,” the Republican presidential candidate said. Second time in a week that Trump's event was interrupted This was the second time in a week that Trump's event was interrupted. On Monday, Trump cut off a town hall and instead played music after multiple people in the audience needed medical attention, the Associated Press report said. Trump is famously attuned to his image and the mechanics of his rallies, often commenting on the microphones and teleprompters. Aides are known to travel with multiple backup mics — though it was unclear why they weren’t able to locate one immediately on Friday. Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris' campaign used a video of the Friday interruption (at Trump's rally) to push a message that the Republican may not have the energy to be president again. “An exhausted Trump awkwardly walks in circles on stage after his microphone stops working,” Harris' campaign said in a post on X. US presidential election 2024: Trump paced his rally stage in silence after microphone failure

The presidential election in the United States (US) is less than a month away. The November 5 election is happening under the shadow of two wars- the Israel-Hamas war in the Gaza Strip that began on October 7, 2023, and the Russia-Ukraine war that started on February 24, 2022.

The Israel-Hamas war has further spread to West Asia with Israel now fighting Iran and Tehran-aligned Lebanese militant group Hezbollah.

The top contenders in this US presidential election are Donald Trump (Republican Party) and Kamala Harris (Democratic Party). Harris, who is the current vice president, became the Democratic presidential candidate after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race.

Both Trump and Harris have spoken in length about the two wars but have not offered any realistic ways to stop them.

Where do Trump and Harris stand on Gaza and Ukraine?

On Gaza war

The Israel-Hamas war merited a few scant mentions over less than five minutes of the September 10 presidential debate on ABC News between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.

During the debate, Trump reiterated his position that the war in West Asia would have not broken out if he were president.

Hitting out at Harris, Trump said, "When she mentions Israel, all of a sudden - she hates Israel. She wouldn’t even meet with Netanyahu when he went to Congress to make a very important speech. She refused to be there because she was at a sorority party of hers. She wanted to go to the sorority party. She hates Israel," he said.

"If she's president, I believe that Israel will not exist within two years from now," Trump added and expressed his continued support of Israel's offensive in Gaza.

He has also urged Israel to “finish up” the war because it was is losing support.

Harris, meanwhile, said that Trump's remarks about her hating Israel were "absolutely not true."

Harris said that she backed a ceasefire deal in Gaza that would see the release of the remaining Israeli captives, but renewed her pledge to continue to arm Israel.

She also voiced support for the two-state solution.

On Ukraine war

Trump has many times mentioned that he could stop the Russia-Ukraine war in 24 hours if he were elected president again. During the September 10 presidential debate, the Republican candidate sidestepped a question on whether he wanted Ukraine to win in its war against Russia.

“I want the war to stop,” Trump said when he was directly asked if he wanted Kyiv to win.

On Thursday (Oct 17), Trump blamed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for starting the war against Russia. Trump has repeatedly called Zelensky the "greatest salesman on Earth" for having solicited and received billions of dollars of US military aid since the war broke out in 2022.

His remarks suggest he could seek to wind down aid for Ukraine if he defeats Harris in the election, a report by the news agency Reuters said.

Kamala Harris, meanwhile, has pledged to continue supporting Ukraine, and she has portrayed a victory for the country as a vital American national security interest. She has frequently rebuked Trump for being unwilling to stand up to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"The reason why Trump says the (Russia-Ukraine) war would be over in 24 hours, because he would just give it up. And that's not who we are as Americans...we brought 50 countries together to support Ukraine in its right to defence," Harris said during the presidential debate.

"If Donald Trump were president right now, Putin would be sitting in Kyiv...," she added.

Poll: Trump leads Harris on dealing with Gaza, Ukraine wars

A recent poll by the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) suggested that Trump had an edge over Harris on who would better navigate the country through the Ukraine war, the Gaza war, and the escalating conflict in West Asia.

In overall support, the poll published on Friday showed Harris and Trump tied across the seven battleground states that could decide the November presidential election.

The poll showed Harris with marginal 2 per cent point lead in Arizona, Georgia and Michigan, Trump up 6 points in Nevada and 1 in Pennsylvania, and the two tied in North Carolina and Wisconsin. The poll of 600 registered voters in each state conducted on September 28-October 8 had a margin of error of 4% per cent points in each state.

Trump leads Harris in the seven swing states 50 per cent to 39 per cent on who is best able to handle Russian war against Ukraine. Trump also has a 48 per cent to 33 per cent lead over Harris on who is better suited to handle the Israel-Hamas war, the WSJ poll added.

Former United States president and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and his Democratic rival and current Vice President Kamala Harris are on a close edge ahead of the US presidential elections, with both the candidates holding rallies and addressing events across the country. The question on everyone’s mind is whether America will get its first woman president or a second Trump term. Trump and Harris both made several claims attacking each other at several campaign rallies and speeches. However, as the claims went through fact-checking, it was revealed some of the statements made by them were false, or only partially true. The two candidates faced off against each other during the 90-minute debate, held at Philadelphia's National Constitution Center on September 11, with both focusing on some of the pressing issues which concern the American voters. Later, Trump at a Fox News town hall event on Tuesday told several lies. A CNN fact check revealed that he made around 19 false claims in a one-hour interview. Donald Trump’s claims ‘Inflation during Biden’s tenure worst in our nation's history’ “We had the worst – they say it’s in 48 years I say ever. We had the worst inflation in the history of our country,” Trump said. However, the claim made by him is ‘false’ according to CNN fact check. While it is true that early in Joe Biden’s presidency, the annual inflation rate peaked at roughly nine per cent (June of 2022), however, that is not the highest it has ever been. In the immediate aftermath of World War II and during the oil embargo and shortages of the late '70s and early 1980s, the inflation rate peaked at 14.5 per cent, as per ABC News. ‘Sex change operations on minors’ Trump claimed, “Kamala supports states being able to take minor children and perform sex-change operations on them without their parents’ consent.” Watch | US Elections: Trump, Harris Try To Sway Voters To Balance The Elections × However, this was false as surgical procedures for minor children receiving gender-affirming care require parental consent. Moreover, she has not said she supports changing state laws, the New York Times reported. ‘Haitian migrants eating pets’ During the presidential debate between Trump and Harris in September, the former US president claimed that the Haitian migrants are “eating the pets of the people that live there”. When he was fact-checked by the debate moderator, Trump said that he saw people on television who said “their dog was eaten by the people that went there.” An Ohio city spokesperson told ABC News that there have been "no credible reports or specific claims of pets being harmed, injured or abused by individuals in the immigrant community,” terming Trump’s claims as false once again. ‘Every single job taken by a migrant worker’ In yet another claim made about the migrants, Trump said that almost every job was taken by them. “You know, the jobs, almost every single job, was taken by a migrant worker.” However, the number of native-born workers and foreign-born workers has both increased by millions in the US, under the Biden administration. Kamala Harris’ claims ‘Trump intends to cut Social Security and Medicare’ In one of her speeches from September, Harris claimed that Trump “intends to cut Social Security and Medicare.” However, during his 2024 presidential campaign, the former US president has repeatedly said that he would not cut Social Security and Medicare, though he had earlier, shown brief and vague support for such proposals, making Harris’ claims 'misleading'. ‘Goldman Sachs report saying Harris’s plan would grow economy, while Trumps’ plan would shrink’ Harris said, “In fact, independent economists like Goldman Sachs have said my plan would grow our economy and his plan would shrink the economy, reignite inflation, and send us into a recession by the middle of next year.” The claim was labelled as “exaggerating” as the Goldman Sachs analysis did show that Harris’ victory in November polls would lead to a “very slight boost” to economic growth, while a Trump’s victory, regardless of what happens in Congress, would cause growth to slow in 2025. But Goldman's chief executive said “A lot more has been made of this than should be,” given the report showed a mere “two-tenth of 1 percent” difference between the two cases. Trump ‘intends to end the Affordable Care Act’ Harris said, “On top of all of this, Donald Trump intends to end the Affordable Care Act.” According to the New York Times fact check, Trump has made vague and contradictory statements about his health care plan, and said that he would not end it but replace it only with “something better and less expensive.” (With inputs from agencies)
