US Elections 2024: Donald Trump Takes Dig at Rivals at Catholic Fundraising Dinner

United States Vice President Kamala Harris maintains a substantial lead over former US President Donald Trump among Black voters in key battleground states, according to a recent poll. However, a significant portion of undecided Black voters could still play an important role in determining the outcome of the upcoming presidential election.

The poll, conducted by the Howard University Initiative on Public Opinion, gathered responses from 981 likely Black voters in battleground states – Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

Results show that 84 per cent of respondents intend to support the Democratic presidential candidate in the upcoming election, while only eight per cent said they plan to vote for her Republican rival, and another eight per cent remain undecided.

When asked about the issues most important to them, voters placed “democracy, voting rights, and elections” at the top of their list. This was followed by the economy and abortion rights.

Two-thirds of Black voters, or 66 per cent, said they were excited about participating in the election, including 35 per cent, who are undecided about their choice of candidate.

Regarding opinions on the candidates, 61 per cent of respondents had a "very favourable" view of Harris, while 14 per cent viewed her "very unfavourably." On the other hand, Trump was seen "very favourably" by just 10 per cent, with 74 per cent holding a "very unfavourable" opinion of him.

The VP also continues to hold a lead over the former president among Black women, leading by 81 points. Among Black men, the gap is narrow, with Harris ahead by 59 points. 10 per cent of both men and women have yet to decide.

US presidential election: Kamala Harris leads Trump among Black voters in swing states, poll shows

US presidential candidate Kamala Harris celebrates her 60th birthday on Sunday, but her US election rival Donald Trump's age is under scrutiny after several bizarre dance parties and rambling speeches.

To shift the polls in the elections, Kamala Harris has escalated attacks on the mental well-being of the 78-year-old Donald Trump, who is the oldest presidential candidate to date.

Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris said on Wednesday that "Donald Trump is increasingly unstable" after a bizarre incident of Trump spending 40 minutes on stage swaying to the music at a town hall event.

The US presidential elections act as a major stamina test for any candidate, but this year's race has been unusually focused on age.

Kamala Harris rose to lead the Democratic ticket after 81-year-old President Joe Biden stepped down following a disastrous debate performance against Trump. Harris, who is 20 years younger than Biden, gave new hope to the party as she chased down Trump in the pools.

Shortly after Biden was pulled out, Trump said, "She is younger," Trump told Fox News then. "I mean, she's 60 years old... I didn't realise she was 60. I thought she was a little younger. But she is 60."

In the US Presidential elections of 2024, Kamala Harris has played the age card repeatedly. She released her own medical report on 12 October stating she has "excellent health" and is fit for the presidency. She also pushed Trump over his refusal to do the same.

Her campaign has increasingly hinted that Trump is not fit to serve another year as President, referring to his medical history and several cancelled interviews and political events.

Harris said on X, "What is Donald Trump trying to hide?" Her campaign also mentioned Trump's unpredictable speeches and interviews, including when he recently spoke about the possible use of the US military against internal enemies.

As per the polls, this is a strong strategy for Harris. Pew Research Centre polls show that people who thought Trump was "mentally sharp" dropped from 58% in July to 52% in September. While 49% of voters said Trump's age would be a disadvantage for his Presidential candidacy, 46% said Harris's age could be advantageous for her. The age of voters is also a key issue in the elections.

Harris has strong support from the younger generation, but voters from the older generation might tend to lean towards Donald Trump after her attacks on his age. As per the recent CBS poll, 53% of voters in the 45-56 age group support Trump compared to 46% for Harris, and among voters aged over 65, it grows to 57% and 42%, respectively.

According to Nancy Hirschmann, a professor from the University of Pennsylvania, Kamala Harris also faces several prejudices about age. She told AFP, "Her age does have an effect in one sense, in that, the sexism of America really is for sure on older women." She added, "There's an added layer of sexism against older women over 50."

US presidential candidate Kamala Harris turns 60 amid age controversies in the elections

As the US presidential election approaches, young voters are emerging as a pivotal group that can possibly shape the political landscape. With approximately 8 million first-time voters in Generation Z or Gen Z and a significant portion of the electorate comprising those under 35 or millennials, their influence cannot be underestimated.

What do Gen Z and millennials, also known as Gen Y, truly care about? Economic issues, particularly inflation, housing affordability and job prospects, drive many young Americans to the polls, underscoring a shift in priorities compared to previous election cycles, according to analysts.

Historically, young voters have been motivated issues like health care, social justice, and climate change. But in the current election cycle, economic concerns have taken centrestage. Many young people find themselves grappling with the harsh realities of a financial landscape that seems increasingly inhospitable.

Rising rents, stagnant wages, and a general increase in the cost of living have created an environment where financial stability feels out of reach. The pressure to make ends meet has intensified, leading many to prioritise economic growth and income inequality as their top concerns.

Compounding the economic challenges is the fact that they are entering a workforce characterised by precarious conditions. Many young people are in gig economy jobs or part-time positions that offer little in terms of social security or benefits.

As they navigate these uncertainties, the promise of economic opportunity becomes increasingly vital.

The burden of student debt exacerbates their financial woes, leading many to question the viability of traditional pathways to success, such as home ownership.

This economic discontent has sparked a renewed interest in political engagement among young voters. Many are recognising that their futures are directly tied to decisions made by elected officials, prompting them to seek out candidates who address their concerns.

This shift is evident in the increasing turnout rates among young voters in recent elections. In 2020, voter turnout among this demographic was the highest in decades, indicating a growing awareness of the importance of their political participation.

So is it going to be Kamala Harris or Donald Trump for them? Candidates who can effectively communicate their plans to alleviate economic hardship stand to gain support from this voting bloc. As Democrats and Republicans vie for the favour of young voters, there's an increased focus on issues like student loan forgiveness, housing subsidies, and economic reform.

Engaging young voters requires not only policy proposals but also a genuine connection to their lived experiences. The ability to resonate with their concerns can be a decisive factor in winning their support.

Role of social media: The rise of political influencers

Social media has played a crucial role in shaping the political landscape for young voters. Platforms like TikTok and Instagram have become avenues for political discourse, where candidates can connect directly with their audience.

The rise of influencers in politics signifies a new era of engagement, where traditional campaign methods are supplemented by more relatable and accessible forms of communication.

This shift has encouraged younger generations to participate in political discussions and mobilise their peers, further amplifying their impact on the election.

The emphasis on economic issues has also led to a wave of young candidates stepping forward to represent their communities. Many young individuals are recognising the importance of having representatives who understand their struggles firsthand.

This influx of young voices into politics is not just about seeking office; it is about reshaping the narrative and priorities of political discourse. The desire for representation drives many to run for office, creating a new generation of leaders who can advocate for policies that directly address the needs of their constituents.

But will they turn up to vote?

Despite the enthusiasm among young voters, challenges remain. Voter turnout among younger demographics, while improving, still lags behind older age groups. In the 2020 election, only about half of eligible voters aged 18-29 participated, compared to higher turnout rates among those aged 35 and older.

The current political landscape offers a unique opportunity for candidates to harness the power of young voters. As economic issues take precedence, the focus on tangible solutions and empathetic leadership is paramount.

Trump calls January 6 US Capitol riots a 'day of love'; Harris hits out at him

As the 2024 presidential election approaches, attention turns to the crucial battleground states that will likely decide the outcome.

These states, characterised by their swing voting histories and electoral significance, hold the power to tip the balance in favour of either Democratic nominee Kamala Harris or Republican nominee Donald Trump.

What are the Battleground States?

Battleground states are the states where the margin of victory between the two major parties is historically narrow, making them highly contested and critical to winning the presidency. These states typically have:

1. Competitive voting demographics
2. High electoral vote values
3. Significant campaign spending and resource allocation

Also read: US elections, Gen Z and Gen Y: Kamala Harris or Donald Trump for young voters?

2024 Battleground States

Based on past election trends, polling data, and demographic shifts, the following states are expected to be battlegrounds in 2024:

1. Pennsylvania (20 electoral votes): A perennial swing state, Pennsylvania has voted Democratic in recent presidential elections but remains competitive.
2. Michigan (16 electoral votes): Michigan's diverse electorate and union influence make it a prized battleground.
3. Wisconsin (10 electoral votes): Wisconsin's swing-voting history and proximity to the Midwest make it a key target.
4. Arizona (11 electoral votes): Arizona's growing Hispanic population and shifting demographics have turned it into a battleground.
5. Georgia (16 electoral votes): Georgia's increasingly diverse electorate and suburban swing voters make it a crucial state.
6. North Carolina (15 electoral votes): North Carolina's mix of urban and rural areas creates a competitive landscape.
7. Ohio (18 electoral votes): Ohio's bellwether status and significant electoral vote value make it a prized battleground.
8. Florida (29 electoral votes): Florida's diverse population and massive electoral vote haul make it a critical state.

Why These States Matter

Battleground states hold significant influence over the election outcome due to:

1. Electoral Vote Allocation: These states possess substantial electoral votes, accounting for over 130 of the 270 needed to win.
2. Campaign Resource Allocation: Candidates will focus resources, including advertising and grassroots efforts, on these states.
3. Swing Voter Dynamics: Battleground states often have high proportions of swing voters, whose decisions can swing the election.

Conclusion

With less than three weeks to Election Day, the presidential race remains neck and neck. Recent swing state polls show Donald Trump leading Kamala Harris in Georgia and Arizona, while Harris holds slim advantages in North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Nevada's outcome is mixed. With margins razor-thin, these states are truly up for grabs. The contest's outcome will hinge on which candidate mobilizes their base most effectively.

Watch | US Elections 2024: Trump And Harris Clash Over Housing Crisis Solutions × Why These States Matter Battleground states hold significant influence over the election outcome due to: 1. Conclusion With less than three weeks to Election Day, the presidential race remains neck and neck.

Battleground states: The key to unlocking the 2024 presidential election

The US Vice President Kamala Harris appeared on Fox News with anchor Bret Baier on Wednesday (Oct 16) for one of her most challenging interviews to date. The interview quickly turned into a debate, with Baier pressing Harris on key issues like the border, President Biden’s fitness, and Donald Trump’s threat to democracy.

It had hints at what she plans to do if she wins the race for White House in the November 5 election. Here's what a Kamala Harris presidency would look like, based on her answers to Fox News.

Breaking with Biden, but not by much

Harris offered a rare distinction when asked how her presidency would differ from Joe Biden’s. “My presidency will not be a continuation of Joe Biden’s presidency,” she said, highlighting her focus on issues like housing and small businesses.

Though a clear attempt to distance herself slightly from the president, Harris’ comments were more rhetorical than substantive.

However, Biden himself recently hinted that he’s comfortable with Harris carving out her own path, saying, “She’s been loyal so far, but she’ll cut her own path.”

When Baier probed further, questioning Biden’s mental faculties, Harris stood firm, stating, “Mr. Biden is more than capable of leading the nation,” while calling Trump “unfit,” “unstable,” and “dangerous.”

Immigration and border security: Baier pushes Trump talking points

Throughout the interview, Baier echoed several of Trump’s key arguments. Nearly half of the 26-minute discussion centred on immigration and border security, areas where Harris has struggled to gain favour with undecided voters.

Baier highlighted stories of women who were victims of undocumented immigrants, a frequent Trump talking point.

At one point, Baier even played a clip from a Trump rally where the former president defended his controversial “enemy from within” comments.

In response, Harris pushed back, redirecting the conversation to Trump’s role in sabotaging bipartisan immigration reform.

Appealing to women voters

One of Harris’ key objectives in the interview was to connect with Republican women, a demographic her campaign hopes to sway.

However, Baier avoided discussing issues like abortion rights—topics that Harris’s campaign sees as crucial to winning over female voters. Instead, the conversation remained focused on border security.

When Baier pressed her on whether the Biden administration owed apologies to families of women killed by undocumented immigrants, Harris expressed condolences but pivoted to emphasise her prosecutorial record and the failures of Trump’s immigration policies.

“Let’s talk about what is happening right now with an individual who does not want to participate in solutions,” she said of Trump.

Repeated interruptions highlight gender dynamics

Harris faced frequent interruptions from Baier, drawing comparisons to how Matt Lauer treated Hillary Clinton during the 2016 election.

At one point, Harris had to assert, “You have to let me finish, please.” Despite the interruptions, Harris remained composed, a dynamic that may have resonated with the female viewers her campaign is targeting.

As the interview progressed, Baier acknowledged the interruptions, stating, “We’re talking over each other,” and apologised before the segment ended.

Limited success in reaching Republicans

Despite her efforts to appeal to Republicans, the interview underscored the difficulties Harris faces in winning over a largely sceptical conservative audience. Though she repeatedly pointed to former Trump administration officials who support her, the majority of Fox News viewers remain aligned with Trump.

Even some progressives are concerned about Harris’s attempts to reach across the aisle, worried that her focus on courting moderates could dampen enthusiasm among younger, liberal voters.

Flipping Trump’s transgender attack

When Baier played a Trump campaign ad accusing Harris of supporting taxpayer-funded gender transition care for prisoners, Harris was quick to turn the tables.

“I will follow the law, and it’s a law that Donald Trump actually followed,” she said, pointing out that Trump’s administration provided similar treatments to inmates.

With a smile, she added, “That ad is a little bit of like throwing stones when you’re living in a glass house.”

What will a Kamala Harris presidency look like? What she said in her toughest interview: Recap and analysis

US Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris clashed with Fox News’s Bret Baier Wednesday night (Oct 17), as she appeared on the channel labelled as ‘pro-Republican’ by the US media. Within a few minutes into the interview, Harris was back to her classic “May I please finish, you have to let me finish” dialogue.

‘Broken immigration system’

During the interview, Harris, who was appointed as ‘Border Czar’ under the Joe Biden administration, admitted the USA’s immigration system was ‘broken’.

“The point is that we have a broken immigration system that needs to be repaired,” said Harris. “So, your Homeland Security Secretary said that 85 per cent of apprehensions,” Mr Baier interjected. “I'm not finished. We have an immigration system,” Harris shot back.

“It's a rough estimate that 6 million people have been released into the country,” the Fox News anchor cut Harris off again.

“And let me just finish. I'll get to the question. I promise you. I was beginning to answer,” Harris pleaded.

“We recognized from day one that to the point of this being your first question, it is a priority for us as a nation and for the American people. Our focus has been on fixing a problem. From day one, then, we have done a number of things, including to address our asylum system and put more resources, getting more judges, what we needed to do to tighten up penalties and increase penalties for illegal crossings, what we needed to do to deal with points of entry between border, entry points,” she said.

Donald Trump ‘Unstable’

Harris took the opportunity to attack her rival, GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump, calling him unstable" and questioning the 78-year-old former president's fitness for office.

"He has talked about turning the American military on the American people. He has talked about going after the people who are engaged in peaceful protest. He has talked about locking people up because they disagree with him," she said.

Kamala Harris labels Trump ‘unstable’, immigration system ‘broken’ in rare Fox interview

2024 US Elections: In just a few weeks, on November 5, the United States of America will vote to elect its next president.

The two top candidates in this vital race for the White House are the Democratic Party nominee, the current US Vice-president Kamala Harris, and the Republican Party nominee, former president Donald Trump.

The upcoming 2024 presidential elections are very important to both the candidates. On one hand, Kamala Harris has set her sights on becoming the USA's first-ever female president and on the other, Donald Trump is attempting to achieve a feat only accomplished once earlier in US history: regaining the White House after losing it.

Driving the 2024 US Presidential elections are a number of issues of importance to voters. Let's take a look at some of the key issues and where the two candidates stand on them.

Economy

Amid concerns about the US' state of economy and inflation, about eight in 10, or 81 per cent of the voters, as per Pew Research, say that the economy will be very significant to their vote in the upcoming election.

Billionaire 'dying' to be US' 'secretary of cost-cutting,' says ex-president

Voters, as per reports, favour Trump on this issue and, according to News Gallup, 54 per cent in contrast to Harris's 45 per cent think he can better handle the American economy as the president.

Reproductive Rights and Abortion

One of the most contentious issues of the 2024 Presidential elections is abortion and reproductive rights of women.

A Pew Research poll found that while 67 per cent of Harris supporters view abortion as a key issue, only 35 per cent of Trump supporters share their view.

In 2022, the US Supreme Court overturned Roe V Wade, which gave women all over the nation the right to abortion. This happened largely due to justices appointed by Trump, a feat the Republican has boasted about multiple times.

Harris has been vocal about her support for bringing back the federal protections for a woman's right to an abortion as they existed under Roe v. Wade. Meanwhile, Trump, who at one time supported a national ban on the procedure, has softened his stance and now backs the individual state's right to choose.

A key issue and one of Trump's favourite topics, immigration, is important for 82 per cent of his supporters. Meanwhile, only 39 per cent of Harris supporters see it as vital to their vote.

Trump in his rally speeches and at the two debates — with President Joe Biden and Harris — has continued to vilify immigrants, calling them rapists, murderers, etc. Meanwhile, Harris, who has faced criticism for her immigration policies as the VP, has not detailed her position on the topic beyond voicing support for a border security bill.

Gun Policy

America is home to more guns than people, and they are to blame for a staggering number of deaths every year — over 48,000 in 2022, for example.

Despite the gun epidemic, i.e., the unbelievably high number of mishappening, and deaths due to guns, the Right to Bear arms remains a contentious issue.

For both Trump and Harris supporters, gun policies and/or gun rights are important. Among the supporters of the Republican candidate, 53 said the issue was key to them. 49 per cent of Harris supporters also share the sentiment.

Donald Trump has been a vocal supporter of the Second Amendment right to bear arms, and has even positioned himself as a "defender" of the right. As the president, he loosened some restrictions on gun ownership, appointed around 200 federal judges who had "gun-friendly" records, and even ensured that gun sales would continue during the early COVID-19 lockdowns.

His running mate JD Vance even went as far as calling the tragic school shootings that have become very common "a fact of life".

Harris, according to Scientific American, has a long history with the gun rights. During her career as a prosecutor, she supported stricter restrictions on gun ownership, as well as stronger enforcement of existing regulations. As a senator, she worked on legislation that would've mandated universal background checks. As a VP, she and Biden introduced US' first sweeping gun legislation in nearly three decades that enforced stronger background checks, and included a measure to keep guns away from domestic abuse offenders.

US Presidential Election 2024: What key issues are driving the polls? Where do Harris and Trump stand on them?

Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate, has once again challenged Donald Trump on fitness grounds after the Republican’s Town Hall event turned into an impromptu musical concert.

The 78-year-old presidential candidate was seen grooving to music after two medical emergencies interrupted the event in the swing state of Pennsylvania.

“Hope he's okay,” posted Harris on X.

Harris’s campaign has often been raising questions about Trump’s health and mental stability and recently said that he seemed "lost, confused, and frozen on stage" during the October 14 event.

However, the former president said the event was “so different,” defending his actions.

"It was amazing! The Q and A was almost finished when people began fainting from the excitement and heat," Trump posted on his Truth Social network.

"We started playing music while we waited, and just kept it going. So different, but it ended up being a GREAT EVENING!"

Vice President Harris has recently released her medical report to show her fitness to run for the highest office and has challenged Trump to share his fitness report.

"With all of the problems that she has, there is a real question as to whether or not she should be running for President! MY REPORT IS PERFECT -- NO PROBLEMS!!!" Trump wrote.

"Who the hell wants to hear questions, right?" he said.

The music went on for nearly 40 minutes as the crowd started to disperse.

According to the polls, the election is set to be determined by seven swing states where the margin of votes between Trump and Harris could come down to 10,000.

'Hope he's okay': Harris mocks Trump after Town Hall turns into impromptu concert

The US has been quite vocal about its continuous support for Israel following the Oct 7 attack. President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have been firm in supporting Israel’s right to defend itself while also expressing concern over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The US-Israel alliance has dwelled upon the fact that Israel must take action to protect its citizens. The Biden administration has been committed to continuous military support to ensure Israel’s right to security. However, even after a year now, the situation in Gaza still intensifies with rising civilian casualties on a daily basis.

But the question arises: Will this support affect the vote bank for Democrats among Arab Americans?

Many feel that the Biden administration failed to make an agreement on both sides and call for a ceasefire. This has sparked protests all over the world, particularly amongst Muslim countries, who have expressed anger and believe that the administration should take a stronger stand on humanitarian aid for people in war-battered Gaza.

In recent weeks, the US Vice President and Democrats have been meeting with Arab and Muslim leaders in Michigan. During her campaign rally in Michigan, Harris was even asked to take a step back from Biden’s Israel policy and urge for a ceasefire.

In the past, Arab Americans were a majority voting bank for Democrats, especially after 9/11 and because of Trump’s anti-Muslim dialogues. Traditionally, the total voter turnout of Arab Americans has been over 80 per cent. However, this year only 63 per cent of the members of the Arab community are looking forward to the elections next month.

Harris seems to be concerned about Arab voters in Michigan. Some community leaders have also mentioned that the majority of Arab Americans might withhold their support for Democrats in the 2024 elections unless some changes are made in the policies.

According to Swing State Poll 2024- Muslims and Arabs in Michigan play an important role in changing the whole outcome of the US Presidential Elections. Their main concern revolves around the lack of administration decision-making in calling for an immediate ceasefire and the constant supply of military aid to Israel amid endless casualties. A recent poll by Arab Americans Institute shows that the Democrats are hitting an all-time low of 23 per cent after October 7.

Also, voters of the Arab community are preferring Republicans to take over the next Congress. This can have a huge impact, as the community played an important role in contributing to Biden’s victory in 2020.

Harris is working towards connecting with the larger Muslim and Arab citizens. The effort, however, comes as tension between Israel and Lebanon has been rising.

Many progressive Democrats have also criticised the administration over human rights issues and have been pressuring the Biden administration for de-escalation and ebsuring humanitarian aid supply to the people in Gaza. Many vocal figures, like Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, have questioned the policies on the conflict.

This has created a divide within the party, with some supporting the stance while others being critical of it. With days passing by, the crisis in Gaza remains unresolved even as both Harris and Biden have been trying to strike a balance between the two sides.

'Too much, too late': Georgia judge temporarily halts controversial ballot hand-counting rule

As the 2024 U.S. presidential elections approach, various projections and polls are indicating a competitive race. Current forecasts show fluctuating support for candidates, with Donald Trump and Joe Biden (or potential Democratic challengers) closely matched in many key battleground states. Analysts are assessing factors such as voter turnout, economic conditions, and emerging issues that could influence the final outcome. While some projections lean toward a tight contest, the political landscape remains dynamic, and shifts in voter sentiment could alter the predictions as Election Day nears.

US Presidential Elections 2024: What Do The Projections Say? Who Will Win?

In the lead-up to the 2024 U.S. elections, recent polling indicates that Donald Trump has opened up his largest lead over Kamala Harris since the September 10 debate. This shift reflects changing voter sentiments and highlights Trump's growing support among key demographics. As the election approaches, the dynamics between the candidates are intensifying, with both parties ramping up their campaign efforts to sway undecided voters. The evolving political landscape suggests a competitive race ahead, with significant implications for both candidates' strategies.

US Elections 2024: Trump Opens Up Largest Lead Over Harris Since Sept 10 Debate

A judge in the closely watched US swing state of Georgia ruled on Tuesday that local election board members must certify vote results, in a decision that could impact the upcoming presidential contest.

Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney's ruling came after a Republican appointee to the election board in Fulton County, which includes large parts of Atlanta, refused earlier this year to certify the results of Georgia's presidential primary.

Julie Adams, in a lawsuit backed by the America First Policy Institute, a group aligned with Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, had sought a judgment from the court that the certification of election results was "discretionary."

McBurney rejected Adams's claim.

"If election superintendents were, as Plaintiff urges, free to play investigator, prosecutor, jury, and judge and so -- because of a unilateral determination of error or fraud -- refuse to certify election results, Georgia voters would be silenced," McBurney wrote.

"Our Constitution and our Election Code do not allow for that to happen."

The judge said there are "some things an election superintendent must do, either in a certain way or by a certain time, with no discretion to do otherwise."

"Certification is one of those things," he said. "Election superintendents in Georgia have a mandatory fixed obligation to certify election results."

Georgia judge rules local election boards must certify vote results ahead of 2024 election

Voters in Georgia turned out in record numbers as the battleground state opened early voting for the Nov. 5 presidential election between Democrat Kamala Harris and Republican Donald Trump, state officials said on Tuesday.

At least 252,000 voters had cast ballots at early-voting sites as of 4 pm EDT (2000 GMT), nearly double the 136,000 who participated in the first day of early voting in the 2020 election, said Gabriel Sterling, Georgia's No. 2 election official. "Spectacular turnout," he wrote on social media.

Trump, at a campaign event in Atlanta, expressed enthusiasm for the early vote in Georgia.

"The votes are coming in, and they're coming in at a nice level for us," he said.

Early voting, either in person or by mail, has become increasingly popular with US voters. Nearly 1 in 7 voters cast their ballots ahead of Election Day in 2020, according to the University of Florida's Election Lab.

However, many Republicans opposed the dramatic expansion of mail voting that year, saying it was less secure than in-person voting, and Trump cited false claims of mail ballot fraud as he sought unsuccessfully to overturn his defeat by Democrat Joe Biden.

Some Republicans continue to insist that voters should be able to cast their ballots only in person on Election Day, though party officials are encouraging supporters to vote ahead of time.

Nationwide, 5.5 million Americans have already voted this year, according to Election Lab. By contrast, 27 million people had cast their ballots at this point in the 2020 election as voters sought to avoid crowded polling places during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Like some other states, Georgia has tightened its mail-voting laws since then, requiring voters who want to cast an absentee ballot to provide proof of identity and limiting the number of places they can deposit their ballots.

Georgia is one of the seven competitive battleground states expected to play a decisive role in deciding the election.

Also read | 'Too much, too late': Georgia judge temporarily halts controversial ballot hand-counting rule "The votes are coming in, and they're coming in at a nice level for us," he said. The Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris’s signature outfit has attracted undeserved attention, highlighting the solid statement outfit that screams her candidature for the job.

The Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris’s signature outfit has attracted undeserved attention, highlighting the solid statement outfit that screams her candidature for the job. It is nothing new for Kamala Harris to wear statement pieces of clothing with complimenting jewellery, regardless of the time of the day. But since the announcement of her candidature for the upcoming US Presidential Elections, Harris seems to be boosting her wardrobe game. Between the 1950s and 1970s, the participation of women in the US workforce increased from 25% to 46%. The question about their clothing was, however, a cause of concern. However, there was a unanimous consensus among newly employed women during the '70s and '80s, and the pussy-bow blouse became a symbol of corporate, second-wave feminism. Women of the 21st century have elevated their wardrobe choices to emphasize significant moments in their lives. Similarly, Harris has enlisted the help of French womenswear brand Chloé and Nepalese-American designer Prabal Gurung to capture her campaign's key moments. She is seen preferring fresh colours, power suits, and gala dresses. In other words, Harris is delivering a message through her campaign bold suits that reflect how women shop and dress in their daily lives, even for the highest rank in the country. Her Tiffany earrings and her bespoke Chloe suits have caught eyeballs recently. Harris has been consistently seen wearing her go-to pussy-bow blouses throughout her presidential campaign. From her Democratic conference in August to her sit down debate against Trump in September. Not long ago, she was seen in an interview with Bill Whitaker, wearing a sharp edge suit with strong statement colour and a similar-shaded blouse. The black zip-up coat paired with black slacks and pumps, clearing wooing her way to connect with young women and voters. In September, when Kamala Harris appeared as a guest at Oprah’s “Unite for America” rally on Sep 19, she was seen wearing a coordinating purple colour solid suit to show a united front. Oprah, on the other hand, was seen in a powerful yet classy, dusty orange coordinated suit. Shai further explained, "It’s a statement about who we really are… And it has to do with the fact that we all want to go back to some basic stuff about who we are as a country. We at some point had our chunks.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Kamala Harris (@kamalaharris) × Even while she was seen debating against her opposition candidate and former president Donald Trump for the first time, she chose to wear a black solid power suit with a white pussybow. Even during her debate, she was consistently seen outshining Trump, delivering a performance that highlighted her command and poise. She paired her black suit with gold bangle bracelets, pearl stud earrings and purple and silver ring. US Vice President Kamala Harris in 2009 wrote a book titled “Smart on Crime: A Career Prosecutor's Plan to Make Us Safer.” Now, a renowned ‘plagiarism hunter’ from Austria has claimed the book, co-authored by Joan O'C Hamilton, had 27 "fragments of plagiarism". Dr Stefan Weber and his team in their 49-page report revealed that the Democratic presidential nominee even copy-pasted content from a Wikipedia article.

Investigative journalist Christopher Rufo also claimed Harris copied content from wires, press releases, and reports without proper attribution. Harris “plagiarised at least a dozen sections of her criminal-justice book, Smart on Crime,” Rufo said.

’12 sections were plagiarised’

The 248-page book was written in days leading up to Harris' campaign for California attorney general.

Now, as per allegations, Harris copied at least 12 sections of her book without giving attribution.

In one example, Harris reportedly copied a press release issued by the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. In another case, Harris and her co-author allegedly copied a report from NBC News on high school graduation rates, again failing to give proper attribution.

’12 sections were plagiarised’ The 248-page book was written in days leading up to Harris' campaign for California attorney general. ‘Fraud’ Kamala Harris 'copied' content from Wikipedia, wires in her 2009 book; claims journalist

Pennsylvania - the swing state, with its 19 electoral votes, is critical to the campaigns of both Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris. It's also a state with a law that prevents the early processing of mail-in ballots, which dragged out the state's count in 2020. Watch this report to know - Why Pennsylvania is critical in this election.

US Presidential Election 2024: Intense Campaigns in Battleground Pennsylvania

As the 2024 presidential election approaches, discussions surrounding trade policies are intensifying, particularly those implemented during Donald Trump's administration. Robert Lighthizer, the former US Trade Representative, has recently provided critical insights into how these tariffs may influence the electoral landscape according to a detailed report in CNBC.

According to policy analysts at Piper Sandler, Trump might consider announcing tariffs shortly after taking office. “We’ve heard from a number of clients that Trump’s former US Trade Representative, Robert Lighthizer, has been meeting with investor groups and telling them that Trump could announce 60 per cent Chinese tariffs and 10 per cent across-the-board tariffs shortly after taking office,” wrote the trio of research analysts at the investment bank in a recently released note.

Lighthizer's perspective sheds light on the long-term effects of Trump's tariffs, which were initially designed to protect American industries and reduce dependency on foreign imports, particularly from China. He emphasised that these measures have reshaped trade dynamics and could play a pivotal role in the upcoming election.

The former trade representative noted that while tariffs were aimed at bolstering domestic manufacturing, they have also led to increased prices for consumers. This dual impact presents a complex challenge for candidates seeking to appeal to both economic nationalists and those concerned about rising costs.

In his comments, Lighthizer highlighted that public sentiment towards trade has evolved since Trump's presidency. Many voters are now more aware of the potential consequences of protectionist policies. He remarked, “The key will be whether candidates can effectively communicate the benefits of these tariffs without alienating voters who feel the pinch at the checkout.”

Looking ahead to the election, Lighthizer suggested that candidates must navigate this intricate landscape carefully. The challenge lies in balancing support for American workers while addressing consumer concerns about inflation and product availability. He believes that a well-planned approach will be essential for any candidate hoping to resonate with a diverse electorate.

US, China relationship

Another critical aspect of this discussion is the ongoing relationship between the United States and China. Lighthizer pointed out that tensions remain high, with both nations grappling over trade imbalances and intellectual property theft. He stressed that any future trade policy must consider these complicated geopolitical factors.

Hence, as candidates prepare for debates and campaign rallies, they will undoubtedly face questions about their stance on tariffs and trade. Voters are likely to scrutinise how proposed policies will affect their daily lives and the broader economy.

Therefore, it is clear that, as Trump’s trade tariffs continue to shape economic discourse, Lighthizer's insights serve as a reminder of the critical interplay between policy decisions and electoral outcomes. With voters increasingly focused on these issues, candidates i.e., Donald Trump and Kamala Harris must articulate clear and compelling narratives that address both economic growth and consumer welfare in their campaigns.

As we move closer to November 2024, it will be fascinating to observe how these discussions evolve and influence voter behaviour in what promises to be a highly contested election.

Trump’s Trade Strategy: Lighthizer’s insights ahead of the US elections

TIME Magazine owner, Marc Benioff, has called out US Vice President Kamala Harris for denying multiple interview requests to the publication ahead of the November presidential election.

Benioff took to social media to express his frustration and said Harris' campaign had not given the interview, unlike every other presidential candidate, referring to Donald Trump and Joe Biden who dropped out of the race in July but had already given the interview.

"Despite multiple requests, TIME has not been granted an interview with Kamala Harris—unlike every other Presidential candidate," Benioff wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

"We believe in transparency and publish each interview in full. Why isn’t the Vice President engaging with the public on the same level? #TrustMatters and #TransparencyMatters," he added.

Harris' media troubles

Ever since Harris was announced as the Democrat nominee for the election, her campaign has carefully managed her interviews and public addresses. However, in recent weeks, the VP has come under scrutiny for being unprepared when put on the spot during such media engagements.

Since last week, allegations have surfaced that Harris' interview for the programme 60 Minutes was edited creatively by CBS. Trump and several party politicians and commentators are now putting pressure on the channel to release the full transcript.

Notably, CBS aired a clip of the exchange between Harris and the host on the programme that went live on October 6. The question was whether the US had any influence over Israel.

Kamala gave a rambling answer, which was later described by the Trump camp as a 'word salad'.

"Well Bill, the work that we have done has resulted in a number of movements in that region by Israel that were very much prompted by, or a result of, many things, including our advocacy for what needs to happen in the region," she said.

Oddly, that answer was different from the clip that aired on 60 minutes, where she said, "We are not going to stop pursuing what is necessary for the United States to be clear about where we stand on the need for this war to end."

The competition between Harris and Trump appears to be going down to the wire. While many had predicted Harris to pull away after the presidential debate, Trump has seemingly managed to close the gap and even gained lead in some of the swing states, according to fresh polls.
