It's an end of an era. Johnny Depp will no longer be seen in any of 'Pirates Of The Carribean' films. The man, who made his character Jack Sparrow a cult figure, has been dropped from the next film by the makers.

The news comes when Disney Studios is planning a major reboot for the franchise, reported dailymail.co.uk.

Depp, 55, was the major lead in five movies over the past 15 years.

The original script writer of the franchise, Stuart Beattie, was the first to publicly confirm that Disney Studios appears to be ditching the star as they rework the entire franchise.

Depp, who has been dogged by personal dramas over the past four years, saw his last outing as Jack Sparrow in 'Dead Men Tell No Tales', which became the lowest performing movie of the franchise.

Speaking to DailyMailTV at an event recently, Beattie confirmed on camera that the reboot meant that Depp was out as Sparrow.

Nodding when it was suggested that Depp was out, he said: "I think he`s had a great run. Obviously, he`s made that character his own and it`s become the character he`s most famous for now.

"And kids all over the world love him as that character. So I think it`s been great for him, it`s been great for us, so I`m just very, very happy about it."

Beattie feels no matter what Depp does next in his career, his Hollywood career high point will be defined by Sparrow and amassing more than $4 billion from the movies.

He said: "I think Jack Sparrow will be his legacy. It`s the only character he has played five times, it`s the character he dresses up in to visit children in hospitals, it`s what he`ll be remembered for."

Goodbye Jack Sparrow? Johnny Depp ceases to be part of 'Pirates Of the Caribbean' franchise

A decision by Australia's former deputy prime minister to sell his story about having a love child with a former aide sparked derision Tuesday and calls for politicians to be banned from paid interviews.

Scandal-hit Barnaby Joyce, who was forced to quit in February and move to the backbench over his affair with his 33-year-old former media adviser, will reportedly be paid Aus$150,000 (US$113,000) for a tell-all television appearance by the pair on Sunday.

Malcolm Turnbull said he planned to raise the matter privately with the married Joyce, whose smaller National Party rules alongside the prime minister's Liberals.

"It's certainly not... a course of action that I would've encouraged him to take, I'll put it that way," he told broadcaster ABC.

"I think you can understand how I feel about it but I'll just be circumspect, uncharacteristically circumspect, on this and leave it for a private discussion."

News that Joyce, 50, had left his wife of 24 years for Vikki Campion gripped Australia earlier this year, sparking debate about workplace culture amid the global #MeToo movement against sexual harassment.

The saga took another twist when Joyce questioned the paternity of the baby boy, who has since been born.

Best known outside Australia for threatening to euthanise Hollywood star Johnny Depp's two dogs when they were brought into the country illegally, Joyce claimed Tuesday that it was Campion's decision to accept payment for the interview.

He said the couple had tried to ride out the attention, but the paparazzi would not leave them alone.

"Remember there are other people in this interview being Vikki and (baby son) Seb, so if it was just an interview with me as a politician, sure, I am not going to charge for that," he told The Australian newspaper.

"But that is not what they wanted, they wanted an interview obviously to get Vikki's side of the story.

"Like most mothers, she said: 'Seeing as I am being screwed over and there are drones and everything over my house in the last fortnight, paparazzi waiting for me, if everybody else is making money then (I am) going to make money out of it.'"

But the decision to accept payment has prompted accusations of hypocrisy -- Joyce had previously made a formal complaint to the Australian Press Council over the media's coverage of the affair.

Nationals minister Darren Chester said serving politicians should be banned from giving paid interviews.

"I think the public is asking the question, is it appropriate for sitting members of parliament to receive money to do media interviews. I think we should have the conversation in the parliament. I'm hoping for that conversation to occur," he said.

Liberals minister Kelly O'Dwyer warned it could backfire for Joyce.

"Ultimately, it's a matter for him and his judgement. I personally wouldn't do it, I don't think it's right, and I think most Australians are pretty disgusted by it," she said.

The junior partner in Australia's coalition government elected as its new leader on Monday a former newspaper editor who takes over as deputy prime minister after an embarrassing sex scandal threatened a decades-old conservative alliance.

Michael McCormack was chosen in a party-room ballot to replace Barnaby Joyce as the leader of the rural-based National Party after Joyce, who campaigned on family values, resigned over an extramarital affair with his former media secretary.

Joyce is expecting a child with his former staff member and has left his marriage of 24 years. He resisted weeks of pressure to quit but said on Friday he would resign as party leader after a new allegation of sexual harassment emerged.

Under the terms of the coalition deal with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull's centre-right Liberal Party, the leader of the Nationals automatically becomes deputy prime minister.

The drawn-out saga over Joyce's extramarital affair had threatened to fracture the alliance between the Liberals and Nationals that has been in place for almost 100 years.

McCormack won the party-room vote over a single challenger, George Christensen, who had proposed breaking the alliance with the Nationals' senior partner.

"I will honour that faith and trust and responsibility by always doing my best," McCormack told reporters in Canberra.

The alliance suffered during a public falling-out between Turnbull and Joyce over the deputy leader's affair. Turnbull described it as a "shocking error of judgment", to which Joyce replied by calling Turnbull "inept".

Turnbull pointedly did not leave Joyce as acting prime minister when he left Australia last week for meetings with US President Donald Trump in Washington.

McCormack has kept a low profile in recent years but his appointment is not without controversy. He was forced to apologise for stridently homophobic comments he made in an editorial when he was running a rural newspaper in 1993.

Turnbull, also a former journalist, welcomed McCormack's appointment.

"Our enduring and successful political partnership will continue under Michael’s leadership of the National Party," Turnbull said in an emailed statement.

Political analysts saw McCormack's low profile as an early obstacle before elections due by May 2019.

"It will take quite a bit of time before McCormack registers with voters in rural and regional Australia," said Haydon Manning, a political science professor at Flinders University in South Australia.

"Turnbull doesn't have much time before the election and he losses his best asset in Joyce, who is without doubt the best retail politician," he said.

Joyce now moves to the backbench. Little-known outside Australia, he made international headlines in 2015 when he deported two dogs brought into Australia by US actor Johnny Depp without the proper paperwork, a row that became known as the "war on terrier".

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald director David Yates has revealed that the film will not "explicitly" show Hogwarts headmaster Dumbledore as gay.

In 2007, Harry Potter author J K Rowling said at a fan Q&A event that she always visualized Dumbledore as gay and "fell in love with Grindelwald" in his youth.

When asked if the sequel to 2016 film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, will makes it clear that Dumbledore is gay, Yates said, "Not explicitly. But I think all the fans are aware of that. He had a very intense relationship with Grindelwald when they were young men. They fell in love with each other's ideas, and ideology and each other."

While audiences may not be able to see Dumbledore being in love, fans of the franchise will have Jude Law's depiction of the wizard in his youth.

J.K. Rowling defends Johnny Depp casting in next 'Fantastic Beasts'

It is never easy to adapt a bestselling novel for the big screen. And when it is world's famous murder mystery, the task becomes more difficult. Comparisons are bound to be there and most often, the screen adaptation pales in comparison to the book.

When Keneth Branagh decided to adapt Agatha Christie's famous Murder on the Orient Express for the big screen, fans of the author were skeptical about it. Would the film be able to do justice to the supremely fine writing? Would the film be able to create the romantic, pristine old world ambiance well?

To begin with, Murder on the Orient Express has an enviable star cast. From Daisy Ridley, to Penelope Cruz, To Michelle Pfeiffer to Jonny Depp to even Dame Judi Dench, all come on board the Orient Express along with Branagh himself who plays Christie's maverick detective Hercule Poirot.

For those who haven't read the book, the story is- as the title suggests- about a brutal murder that takes place inside the luxurious Orient Express on a snowed-in night in the middle of nowhere. The train gets derailed and as the body is discovered- by Poirot himself, all 13 passengers on board become suspects for the world's sharpest detective.

As Poirot goes around interrogating the passengers, old stories, relations, and insecurities come tumbling out - making each character appear equally responsible for the crime.

While Branagh has the most prominent role in the film- naturally he plays detective Hercule Poirot and the story is from his point of view- the rest of the cast play their parts well and are pitch perfect in their respective roles. From Cruz to Depp to Pfeiffer, all deliver solid performances.

Above all, it is Branagh's film and the man gets the mannerisms and the look (to an extent) of the self-consumed, egotistical, sharp Hercule Poirot perfectly. The famous mustache is there, there chivalry is there and along with it Branagh slightly touches upon the human side of Poirot. A few instances Poirot keep speaking to his lady love Kathrine and one can see the emotional side of the cold, straight face detective.

Branagh also manages to create the perfect old-world charm in the movie- from the narrative which is set at a leisurely pace to the set - which is set inside a luxurious train, the ambiance is perfect for a Christie story.
The only glitch is that in the second half the pace of the story slackens a bit but the climax makes up for it.

The film also has breathtaking scenes. Shot by Haris Zambarloukos, every scene is absolutely breathtaking. Even the VFX is so good that the avalanche scene appears almost real. The last scene where Poirot gets off the train is the perfect parting shot with the blazing sunrise in the background and white snow all around.

Does it match up to Christie's book? Most certainly it does. For a modern-day audience, it is a perfect ride back to all things vintage. And while you figure out who the killer is- you can also feast your eyes on the incredible star cast. We do see a possible franchise coming out of it? Will Branagh make more films based on Poirot's cases? We sure hope so.

Murder on the Orient Express review: It's a fitting screen-adaptation of Agatha Christie's famous novel

We cannot contain our excitement anymore. The first cast photo of Fantastic Beasts: The Crime Of Grindelwald is out and it has some of our favourite stars playing some very important characters.

A sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, the film will have Eddie Redmayne reprising his role as Newt Scamander. We are most excited to see Jude Law playing the young Albus Dumbledore in the film. Johnny Depp will play Dumblebore's friend-turned-arch enemy Grindelwald, who’s seen holding the infamous Elder Wand. Depp, in fact, made a fleeting appearance in the first film.

Johnny Depp on Friday apologised for joking about the assasination of US President Donald Trump.

The famous "Pirates of the Caribbean" star had earlier pondered how long it had been since an actor had killed a US President.

His remarks outraged Trump supporters and the White House described Depp's remarks as "sad".

The actor made the remarks at the Glastonbury Music Festival for the screening of his upcoming 2004 film "The Libertine".

"President Trump has condemned violence in all forms and it's sad that others like Johnny Depp have not followed his lead," the White House said in a statement.

"I hope that some of Mr Depp's colleagues will speak out against this type of rhetoric as strongly as they would if his comments were directed to a Democratic elected official."

Depp on Friday said his remarks were not intended to be malicious.

“I apologise for the bad joke I attempted last night in poor taste about President Trump,” Depp, 54, said in a statement. “It did not come out as intended, and I intended no malice. I was only trying to amuse, not to harm anyone”.

At the screening of "The Libertine" when discussion turned to the topic of Trump, Depp said he thought the president "needs help".

"Can we bring Trump here?" Depp asked the audience.

"... When was the last time an actor assassinated a president?"

Actor John Wilkes Booth assassinated US President Abraham Lincoln in 1865.

"Now I want to clarify, I'm not an actor," Depp continued. "I lie for a living. However, it's been a while, and maybe it's time."

The US Secret Service said it was aware of Depp's comments but made no other comment.

Some Republicans criticized Depp's comments as part of a grim trend.

"I'm sick of celebrities getting away with such disgusting comments," Ronna Romney McDaniel, the Republican National Committees chairwoman, wrote on Twitter.

Johnny Depp apologises for 'bad joke' on Trump

Johnny Depp is back as Captain Jack Sparrow with Pirates Of The Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge, six years after his last outing. The film also marks the entry of Oscar winner, Javier Bardem, as the main antagonist, Captain Salazar. This film also marks the return of Orlando Bloom after missing out in the previous part. The film is directed by Norwegian director duo of Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg and is titled Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tale in US and Pirates Of The Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge in India and a few other countries.

What’s It About

In order to free his father (Will Turner) from the curse, Henry Turner decides to hunt the ‘Trident of Poseidon’ which most believe doesn’t exist. Helping him in his voyage is Carina Smythe and Captain Jack Sparrow. On their trail are Captain Barbossa, British Navy and the army of the undead, headed by Captain Salazar, who has a score to settle with Captain Jack Sparrow.

What’s Hot

You know there is something wrong with a film when you enjoy a new character’s antics more than that of the iconic Captain Jack Sparrow. New entrant to the franchise, Javier Bardem as the undead Captain Salazar is the pick of the lot, closely followed by Geoffrey Rush’s Captain Hector Barbossa.

There is something about Javier Bardem. Every time he appears on screen you are left awestruck, even if he’s a mere spectator. He owns the screen the way very few can. The Spanish dialect he adapts for his character of the ‘Pirate Killer’ is the film’s highlight and speaks volumes about his talent. Of course his character is helped by some brilliant special effects.

Geoffrey Rush as Captain Barbossa, the main antagonist of the first part and since then an unlikely ally of Captain Jack Sparrow, is spot on. His character in this one feels like an extension of this month’s initial release Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2’s fan favourite Yondu.

Kaya Scodelario as Carina Smythe is breathtakingly beautiful and an able performer. She is very easy on eyes from the first scene till the last. If they are planning to reboot the film next then Brenton Thwaites as Will Turner’s son Henry Turner is a good bet to take it forward.

Jack Sparrow’s crew, toplined by Kevin McNally as Gibbs, provide ample amount of humour. In fact there were only a few good laughs in the film, one being ‘the public execution’ scene.

Special Effects by Lucas Films is one of the best in recent times and may get the film an Oscar Nomination. Film has a high usage of background score and it helps in a big way, however, the iconic Jack Sparrow theme was underused.

Having said that, the film scores most in the cinematography department, for which we have Paul Cameron to thank. Besides that, there are fun action scenes, particularly the climax of the film which looks extremely beautiful and is bound to give you an adrenaline rush. In fact it saves the film from being a major disappointment.

What’s Not

You know a ship is in danger if its Captain is incompetent. That’s where lies the problem of this film. It breaks my heart to see the legendary Captain Jack Sparrow, played by Johnny Depp, becoming a caricature of itself. It felt like Depp was sleepwalking through the film. There was just no effort on his part. His half-hearted and disinterested performance makes the film a rather unpleasant watch. And it was not just his performance but the character he plays, too, had nothing to do in the film. His was probably the most unimportant and irrelevant character in the film even though he was made to be the main lead.

Even in earlier films, Jack Sparrow has always been this clumsy, goof ball but he always had a flair of smartness that helped him have the last laugh even against the biggest of his enemies. But here not once did he seem like a hero (except for a five minute flashback scene as Young Jack Sparrow), every damn time he is saved by either Henry Turner, Captain Barbossa or his own crew, and in fact the ‘Trident Hunt’ in the film is headed by Carina Smythe. So what exactly was he doing in the film? I have absolutely no idea. His was a hollow, soul-less character and served no purpose whatsoever to the film’s plotline. Captain Jack Sparrow had no relevance to the story at all. Period.

Storywise, the film had no novelty factor, with multiple sub-plots that tend to get confusing after a point. The pace was so slow at times, that even at an odd 129 minutes of its runtime, it might exhaust you.

What To Do

In my opinion Jack Sparrow shouldn’t have returned as this was an insult to his legend. After watching the film, my reaction was similar to that of Henry Turner, when he sees Sparrow for the first time – disappointed. Watch the film solely for the majestic Javier Bardem and his performance as the undead Captain Salazar. In fact it won’t be wrong to call the ‘lifeless’ Captain Salazar, as the ‘life’ of the film. I give it a generous 2.5 stars, half extra for Bardem and that well executed, resounding climax.

A sterling silver skull ring, a library of crime books and dozens of rolls of paper towels seized from the apartment where the FBI caught former Boston mob boss James "Whitey" Bulger will be auctioned this weekend to raise money for his victims.

Bulger ruled Boston's underworld for a quarter-century before fleeing the city in 1994 after a corrupt FBI agent tipped him that arrest was imminent. He survived 16 years on the lam - many of them atop the bureau's "Ten Most Wanted List" - before agents arrested him in a seaside Santa Monica, California, apartment, where he had $800,000 in cash and a small arsenal of weapons.

All of the 86-year-old gangster's possessions save the weapons will be shown in Boston today at a preview of a Saturday auction, managed by Gaston & Sheehan.

The items to go under the gavel range from the macabre - a pencil cup shaped like a rat, the term Bulger used for his victims who talked with police - to the mundane, including three pairs of identical unworn sneakers still in their boxes and 30 rolls of paper towels.

Bulger was tried and convicted in 2013 of a dizzying array of crimes including 11 murders he either committed personally or ordered, and sentenced to two consecutive life sentences, which he is currently serving at a federal penitentiary in Sumter, Florida.

His longtime girlfriend Catherine Greig, who lived in hiding with Bulger, was sentenced to eight years for harbouring a fugitive, a sentence that was extended by another 21 months in April after she refused to answer questions as to whether anyone helped the couple while in hiding.

Greig's possessions are also part of the auction. A known animal lover who has been training service dogs in prison, the nine cat figurines on auction likely represent part of her contributions to the household inventory.

Bulger's trial captivated Boston. His attorneys began the proceedings by admitting their client was an "organised criminal" and devoted much of their energy to trying to prove he had never been an FBI informant, contending that Bulger paid corrupt law enforcement agents for tips but provided none of his own.

Former gangland associates took the witness stand to testify against their onetime boss, leading to tense and sometimes profane exchanges.

His rise to power and arrest was the subject of the 2015 film "Black Mass," based on a book by the same name by two longtime Boston journalists and starring Johnny Depp as Bulger.

Johnny Depp loosens up with belly dancers amid divorce drama, he probably needed it

A hearing on the restraining order obtained by Amber Heard against Johnny Depp, in a divorce between the celebrity couple in which Heard has accused Depp of abuse, was called off on Thursday, a day before it was set to occur, court officials said.

Heard was expected to testify at the hearing related to the restraining order in Los Angeles Superior Court today, according to E! News and other media outlets.

Instead, the next hearing in the divorce filed by Heard against Depp last month will occur on August 2, court officials said in a statement. The restraining order is part of the divorce case.

The delay allows Depp to gather more witnesses to defend himself against abuse allegations, while for Heard it allows the restraining order to remain in effect at least until the next hearing, said attorney Christopher Melcher, who previously served as chair of the state bar of California family law section, in a phone interview.

It was not immediately clear which side moved to vacate the hearing set for today. Attorneys for Depp and Heard did not immediately return calls.

There have been conflicting reports in the media about whether the two sides are moving toward a settlement in the divorce case.

Depp's legal team had filed court papers seeking to prevent witnesses from testifying on behalf of Heard at the hearing today, on grounds that the actress' legal team had not provided the names of those witnesses, according to a report on the website of People magazine.

A judge on May 27 granted a temporary restraining order for Depp to stay at least 100 yards (91 meters) away from Heard and move out of the couple's shared condominium in downtown Los Angeles. The couple married in February 2015.

Heard, 30, said in court filings that Depp, 53, was abusive to her throughout their marriage and that it culminated in an argument last month in which he hurled a cell phone into her face and shattered various objects in her apartment.

In a counter argument, Depp's lawyer said in court papers last month that Heard "is attempting to secure a premature financial resolution by alleging abuse."
