The security forces in Jammu and Kashmir are using high-tech equipment like drones and pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras in anti-terror operations. And now the dogs equipped with GoPro cameras and walkie-talkies used for giving commands to them during operations. This has proven to be one of the most effective and safest ways to carry out an operation.

The dogs from the unit are first sent to detect the location of the hiding terrorists and the&nbsp;arms and ammunition they are carrying. The feed from cameras fitted on these dogs is monitored from a control room. These dogs are trained to enter the location of the hiding terrorists without getting noticed by them. They are also trained not to bark during these operations.

If these dogs are noticed by the hiding terrorists and are attacked by them, the dogs respond with a counter-attack. The handler of the dog always keeps a sharp vigil on the situation.

''Our dogs are doing wonderful service for the Army as well as the civil population in city areas. They are being used extensively for explosive detection in Road Opening Party (ROP) duties, for sanitising any VIP or vulnerable area. They are actively used as the first responders in the operations also,'' said Abhay Khokhar, Lt Col, Dog Squad, Indian Army.

The Indian Army has various breeds of dogs in its units across India. These include labradors, german shepherds, Belgian malinois and great mountain swiss dogs. Among the Indian breeds, the mudhol hound is part of the units as well. These dogs are used for various purposes like guard duty, patrolling, sniffing explosives including Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), mine detection, sniffing contraband items, including drugs, and attacking targets.

''We have eight major specialities of army dogs in the Indian Army, they are used for explosive and mine detection, tracking, search and rescue operations, avalanche rescue missions and other situations as per requirements. We train dogs as per the requirements of the Indian Army. Majorly, we have&nbsp;labradors, german shepherds, and recently introduced Belgian shepherds. Apart from these international breeds, we have tried certain Indian breeds also like Mudhol Hounds. We have trained them for various tasks, and they have been deployed in the Indian Army and are doing well,'' added Lt Col Abhay Khokhar.

Every Indian Army dog has a handler to train and guide them daily. The main training starts at the Remount and Veterinary Corps Centre and College in Meerut. These dogs are trained for over nine months and later for three months on the ground. The Army keeps these dogs for around seven-eight years depending on their agility. These dogs are provided special food and nutrition to keep them healthy and active.

"All these dogs are trained at the RVC Centre and College at Meerut where we have a proper facility for training. After training, these dogs are inducted into dog units which are mostly in the field. We keep training them as per requirements in the operational areas. They are given a balanced diet comprising&nbsp;rice, milk, meat vegetables, dog biscuits and other supplements,'' said Lt Col Khokhar.

The Indian Army has more than 27 dog units across the country. Around 24 dogs are a part of one unit. Some dogs are born in the RVC Centre and some of them are brought from outside. The Indian Army chooses the best ones and trains them after checking if they are suited for the environment.

''There are many things that we look for in an Army Dog. We see whether the dog is trainable and&nbsp;suited for the environment they are to be placed in. Whether they are fit for Indian weather, summer, and winters. We keep all this in mind and then select a breed and give them respective tasks. Every breed has its pros and cons.&nbsp;We select the breeds keeping in mind the task for&nbsp;them. For protection work, for guard duties, and assault duties, we prefer Belgian shepherds and german shepherds. For sniffing purposes, we use&nbsp;labradors. We are using mudhol hounds, cocker spaniel, and many other Indian breeds,'' he added.

The Indian Army even has special awards for dogs for their bravery. From the Chief of Army Staff Commendation Card, Vice Chief of Staff Commendation Card and GOC in Chief Commendation Card, these dogs are awarded for their performance during various operations.

The Indian Army recently lost a dog named Axel in an operation in Jammu and Kashmir. Axel was shot dead by terrorists in North Kashmir's Baramulla district. Two-year-old Axel was given a gallantry award by the Government of India on Independence Day.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief and former Chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti appealed to all the political parties to join hands to fight the 'agenda of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'.&nbsp;

Mehbooba also said that she has spoken to National Conference (NC) Patron and Member of Parliament Dr Farooq Abdullah to decide the future course of action. She has called for an all-party meeting to discuss the issue of providing voting rights to the non-residents of Jammu and Kashmir.

''Over 25 lakh non-locals are being inducted in the voter lists of J&amp;K&nbsp;which is the last nail in the coffin of electoral democracy. Jammu &amp; Kashmir has become an experimental laboratory for the BJP. I want to say to the nation that BJP is not doing anything in the interest of the nation, they are just doing what they aim to do. They have subverted national interest. Rigging has become part and parcel of the BJP now. They are using money and power for it,'' said former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti.&nbsp;

Reacting&nbsp;to the decision, former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah said that BJP is insecure about the support from genuine voters of Jammu and Kashmir. None of these things will help the BJP when the people of J&amp;K are given a chance to exercise their franchise, '' said Omar.&nbsp;

With a capacity of over 20,000 people, 44 crore rupees have been spent on the stadium. The stadium can hold day and night matches and tournaments.

Government of India is making all efforts to promote sports in J&amp;K from the last three years. Not only football, but many sports are being started in Kashmir and for this infrastructure is being provided to youth. The government wants to keep&nbsp;the youth away from drugs and other vices.

“It felt extremely great to play on this ground. A lot of people used to play here. And after a long time, we are seeing so many people back in this stadium. Holding international level tournaments here would mean that international sports people will come and they will inspire us to do better," said&nbsp;Mehvish Rashid, a sportsperson.

The youth of the valley says it's one of the best news they have heard in a long time. They are hopeful that the platform provided to them would make sure that they play for international tournaments.

"As a sportsperson, this is the happiest news, the stadium will hold international tournaments. For the players, it’s a great thing that stars we have seen only on TV will be playing on a ground in our city and that will be so inspiring. " said&nbsp;Mohd Ayhan, a sportsperson.

On third anniversary of abrogation of Article 370, football stadium thrown open

Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama will be on a visit to the Union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh next week. He will visit Jammu on 14th July, and Ladakh on 15th July. This is the first such visit by the Buddhist leader in over 2 years from his abode in Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh.

The visit takes place even as the Buddhist leader's birthday on Wednesday saw a major celebration in Dharamshala and Delhi and greetings by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief ministers of several states like Odisha. In a tweet PM Modi said that he had spoken to the spiritual leader, adding, "We pray for his long life and good health." The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Jai Ram Thakur was the chief guest at the celebration organized in Dharamshala, which hosts the headquarters of the Tibetan government in exile.

In Delhi, while the Tibetan colony saw a celebration, a reception hosted by the Tibetan government in exile saw the presence of 2 Indian ministers of state-- MoS for culture and ministry of external affairs Meenakshi Lekhi and Mos for Law S. P. Singh Baghel. Both ministers, officials present at the reception said, were present in a personal capacity. Minister Lekhi in her statement said, "India was not the country where he (Dalai Lama) was not born, but India is one country which he loves and respects as his own. According to officials, there were close to&nbsp;3,000 pilgrims stopped&nbsp;at the Nunwan base camp on the Pahalgam axis this Tuesday morning. Pahalgam also known as&nbsp;Jammu and Kashmir's summer capital,&nbsp;is about 90 kilometres from Srinagar.&nbsp;

At the&nbsp;Yatri Niwas in Chanderkote, Ramban district&nbsp; about 4,000 pilgrims who had left Jammu for the Pahalgam route were stopped. The pilgrims who left Jammu for the Baltal route&nbsp;were allowed to proceed.&nbsp;

Manoj Sinha,&nbsp;Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir visited&nbsp;the Amarnath Yatra base camp on Monday&nbsp;at Baltal to take a stock of facilities.&nbsp;

In a tweet,&nbsp;the office of Lieutenant Governor said, "Interacted with Shri Amarnathji pilgrims, officers, ponywalas at Baltal base camp earlier today. Enquired about the facilities, quality of services, well-being of Yatris, volunteers and carried out on-site inspection of Control Rooms."

Earlier this month his office had claimed that, "Adequate arrangements are in place to ensure safe and smooth Yatra. Directed the officials for regular inspection of lodging, food, health facilities, sanitation and taking care of cleanliness drive along the Yatra route and base camp."

On August 11, the Yatra is officially scheduled to end on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. The&nbsp;Amarnath shrine pilgrimage was not held for the last two years due to the pandemic.&nbsp;

Jammu and Kashmir: Amarnath Yatra suspended due to bad weather

Bilal Ahmad, a taekwondo player&nbsp;hailing from a&nbsp;small village in central Kashmir's Budgam district, will be representing India at the International Taekwondo Championship to be held in Bangkok, Thailand this year. Bilal has trained for years to accomplish the goal of playing for the country and with his dedication to the sport, one hopes that he would return with a medal.

Bilal has been training in martial arts since his school days and today not only is he representing India at an International championship, but he is training hundreds of boys in his village in Martial arts.

''In 2019, I participated in a National Championship at talkatora stadium In Delhi and won a gold medal. After that I got selected for the International championship. But due to covid this championship was postponed and now finally it is to take place in Bangkok Thailand this year. I will be leaving for Bangkok soon. I started training in martial arts from my school days. I started with Taekwondo from the beginning and started to learn. I, under the guidance of coach Shuja Sir, started to train. I worked hard and started to train at home till I participated in championships. I had to do everything on my own without any help from anyone. '' said Bilal Ahmad, Taekwondo Player.&nbsp;

As Bilal comes from a humble background, he is training kids in his village free of cost so that they don't have to face the same difficulties he faced while training for Taekwondo.&nbsp;

''All these children who I train belong to poor families, I am myself from a very middle-class background and faced a lot of financial problems regarding my training. I teach them because I know they are talented, and they need to be honed of the skills. '' stated Bilal.&nbsp;

We are being trained by him as we have no stadium or ground available to us where we can be taught, but he is teaching them with his own money. It's all free of cost. I am also learning and have never paid him anything for it. If these young kids also work hard, I am sure they will make it big one day too,"&nbsp;said Akhtar Hussain, Student.&nbsp;

The union territories of Jammu and Kashmir will be hosting the 2023 meetings of the G20 summit.&nbsp;This influential grouping brings together the world's major economies, with the government on Thursday setting up a five-member high-level committee for overall coordination, as reported by PTI.&nbsp;The summit is likely to be held in January 2023.

This will be the first major international summit in Jammu and Kashmir after the erstwhile state's special status guaranteed under Article 370 of the Constitution was withdrawn and divided into two union territories in August 2019.

The Political parties in the Kashmir Valley have welcomed the step. '' The G20 summit is not only a proud moment for the union territory but for the whole country. It used to happen in foreign countries and now happening here. It is a great thing. They discuss the business plans and all strong nations like France, Britain and Germany are a part of it. They plan a roadmap for the future and it's a proud moment for Jammu and Kashmir. The PM has been working on the development of Jammu and Kashmir and this&nbsp;proves it. After the abrogation of article 370, this summit being held here is something no one would have dreamt of, there is a change on the ground in the valley, '' said Altaf Thakur, state spokesperson, Bharatiya Janata Party.

Some leaders also congratulated the state and central government for managing to host this summit in the union territory. ''It's great news. We welcome this, holding a summit here will give Jammu and Kashmir a push for peace. This also shows that peace is returning to the valley. We appreciate it and it's the hard work of the Delhi government as well as the state government. '' G M Shaheen, state president,&nbsp;Janata Dal (United).

In September last year, Union Commerce and Industry Minister, Piyush Goyal was appointed India's Sherpa for the G20. The Ministry of External Affairs had said that India will hold the G20 presidency from December 1, 2022, and will convene the G20 leaders' summit in 2023 for the first time.

According to an official order issued on Thursday, the Union Territory's housing and urban development department principal secretary will be the chairman of the committee which was formed in response to a June 4 communication from the Ministry of External Affairs.

"Sanction is hereby accorded to the constitution of a committee? for overall coordination of G20 meetings to be held in the Union Territory of J&amp;K," the order issued by Principal Secretary, General Administration Department, Manoj Kumar Dwivedi said, as reported by PTI.

The members of the committee include Commissioner Secretary (Transport), Administrative Secretary (Tourism), Administrative Secretary (Hospitality and Protocol) and Administrative Secretary (Culture).

"Further, principal secretary to the government, housing and urban development department is also nominated as UT level nodal officer to coordinate the arrangements for G-20 meetings in the Union Territory of J&amp;K," the order said.

Prime Minister Modi has led India's representation at G20 summits since 2014. India has been a member of the G20 since its inception in 1999. According to the MEA, India will be part of the G20 Troika (preceding, current, and incoming G20 Presidencies) from December 1, 2021, till November 30, 2024.

The G20 brings together 19 of the world's leading economies and the European Union, with its members accounting for more than 80 per cent of global GDP, 75 per cent of global trade and 60 per cent of the worldwide population, according to the MEA.

The G20 member nations are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States.

J&K to host G20 meetings in 2023, first major international summit after abrogation of Article 370

Jammu and Kashmir is hosting the first first-ever National Rowing Championship on the world-famous Dal Lake. The government is keen on making the Union Territory a water sports hub of India. Srinagar's Water Sports Center is equipped with world-class infrastructure for kayaking, canoeing, and rowing.&nbsp;

Around 550 athletes from 23 states of India are competing in the championship. 50 rowing coaches have come from across India to help these athletes in the tournament. The National Rowing Championship will provide a unique opportunity for young sportspersons from all over the country to display sporting excellence and share camaraderie and sportsmanship.&nbsp;

''This is a prestigious championship for the Jammu and Kashmir, It is the first National rowing championship to be held here. This will boost the water sports in the Valley. There are 23 states participating with 600 athletes. In our Dal Lake, people have come from across the country. The federation after seeing the arrangements has said that they want to arrange international events like these here as well. It's a proud moment for us. We are using the best equipment. There are many award-winning athletes participating. We are blessed with water sports, we want to bring Kashmir on the world map of water sports. Dal lake has become a hub of water sports. Jammu and Kashmir will host International events in the future,'' said Bilquis Mir, Director of Watersports.&nbsp;

The Kashmir Valley's water sports department has been provided with the best infrastructure and equipment for the athletes. The government has paid special attention to water sports to help grow the sports culture across the Union territory. As Kashmir is gifted with natural water resources, the sports authorities are saying that Kashmir could be the next destination for National and International water sporting events in the future.&nbsp;

Police had an Input about the module working for the terror organisations operating in the valley. Based on specific information, a police team of Karnah police station led by its Station House Officer Mudasir Ahmed under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police Syed Majeed arrested the trio from different localities of the area.&nbsp;

"The trio identified as Mohammed Amir, son of Mohammed Shakoor Kalas, Nisar Ahmad, son of Manzoor Kalas, residents of Hajitra Karnah and Kafeel Ahmad, son of Late Abdul Rehman Bhat, a resident of Sudhpora Karnah during their custodial interrogation revealed that they are involved in smuggling of arms and ammunition from across the LoC to further make it available to the active terrorists operating in the Valley," said Jammu and Kashmir Police.&nbsp;

The athletes have been training on static waters of the Dal Lake and it was the first time they were trying river rowing, moving against the flow of water. The four kilometres stretch had spectators looking from over the banks and bridges.&nbsp;

The government says that Kashmir has so many natural water resources that taking up water sports is one of the best sporting option for the youth as water bodies to practice in&nbsp;are present everywhere.&nbsp;

"We are blessed with natural water resources. This was the first-ever canoe race particularly on the river Jhelum. We can use river Jhelum for training as well for competition. Popularity of games is extremely important and by doing such events, we want to promote it. In last four years we have won 92 medals at national level and 4 athletes represented us at international level. This is the first such initiative and in June we will organise the first-ever Rowing championship where more than 500 athletes will participate from across the country. We have a lot of talent, and our focus is the Olympics," said Bilquis Mir, Director, Water Sports.&nbsp;

The participating athletes were extremely happy that such an event had been organised for them by the government. They hope more and more events like these will be held in the valley so that they get a platform to learn and represent the country on international level.&nbsp;

"I am extremely happy that this marathon was organised. This helps other youngsters to pick up sports as careers. Lot of youths are involved in drugs and sports is the only way to get rid of that from society. The youngsters will be attracted to these sports and represent the country at international levels," said Vilayat Hussain, an athlete and a gold Winner in the marathon.&nbsp;

There were 10 girl athletes who took part in the marathon as well. The winner of the marathon in the female category was Nabeela Khan, a local athlete who has won many medals for Jammu Kashmir. &nbsp;

"This will give a lot of exposure to the newcomers to get a platform like this. The most important thing is to have fun in all this. It's how you become healthy. Sports can get you fame, and you can represent the country at international levels. You can make so many people proud," said Nabeela Khan.&nbsp;

The government of Jammu and Kashmir says that millions of jobs would be created after these investments are made. They also said that 75 per cent of the jobs generated in these investments will go to the locals of Jammu and Kashmir.&nbsp;

''It was important for us to show them Jammu and Kashmir. It will increase the economic activity in the Union Territory. This will not only bring money but also employment. Around 75 per cent of jobs will be reserved for the locals. We are starting from Srinagar district. And slowly will go to other districts as well '' said Ranjan Prakash Thakur, Principal Secretary, Industries and Commerce.&nbsp;

Thousands of tourists thronged Asia's largest Tulip Garden in Srinagar on the very first day of its opening. The tourism industry is hoping that there will be a record number of tourists visiting the valley to enjoy the beautiful visuals of the Tulip Garden.&nbsp;

Tulip garden has more than 1.5 million tulips and 68 different varieties this year. Spread over an area of 30 hectares of land at the foothills of Zabarwan hills and overlooking the famous Dal Lake, the visuals in the garden are just breathtakingly beautiful.&nbsp;

''I have been working on this garden since 2002, This year we have around 1.5 million tulips and it's a lot of hard work. Our reward is when people from across the world come to see and enjoy this tulip garden. We start the whole process in November and for three months we have to keep working on it. There are around 100 gardeners in this tulip garden. Tourists coming to see this garden gives us so much happiness,'' said Mohammad Ayub, Gardener.&nbsp;

This year the garden has been made much more attractive with many other additions. More trees and shrubs have been added, along with an open-air cafeteria. The tourism department is also planning to sell various Kashmiri breads and tea in the garden. A students' organisation has urged the youths from Jammu and Kashmir, who are studying in other parts of the country, to focus on their education and career, control their emotions and not to write provocative things on social media.

The appeal came days after a case of sedition was registered against a minor college student from Jammu and Kashmir studying in Madhya Pradesh for allegedly posting an objectionable video about the Pulwama terror attack.

"We urge all Kashmiris studying outside Kashmir to desist from any activity that could disrupt peace," national spokesperson of the Jammu and Kashmir Students' Association, Nasir Khuehami, said in a press statement.

He said the minor Kashmiri student studying in Swami Vivekanand PG College Neemuch in MP had posted the objectionable video on social media regarding the Pulwama attack.The student studying under the Prime Minister's Special Scholarship Scheme had posted the video in which he termed the Pulwama terror attack, in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed on February 14, 2019, as an act of revenge for the Babri masjid demolition, he added.

A complaint has been filed on behalf of the college against the student and the accused is presently in police custody (since Tuesday), Khuehami said, quoting college Principal Vijay Jain.

He has been arrested and booked for sedition under section Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 124A (sedition), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups) and 505 (whoever makes, publishes or circulates any statement, rumour or report). The mobile phone and laptop of the student have been seized and are being checked, he said.
