<p>James Webb Space Telescope has found water vapour around a rocky exoplanet revolving around its star. JWST used its Near-Infrared Spectrograph (NIRSpec) to detect signals of water vapour around a rocky planet designated as GJ 486.</p>

<p>The planet is too close to the star to be in its habitable zone. On the surface of the planet, the average temperature is 430 degrees Celsius.</p>

<p>If the detected water vapour is indeed associated with the planet, it may mean that the planet has an atmosphere in spite of it being close to its star. This will be a huge development indeed as till date, there hasn't been a definite discovery of atmosphere around a rocky exoplanet.</p>

<p>However, in case of GJ486, scientists are still trying to determine whether the water vapour is associated with the planet or it is associated with the star itself, specifically with the cooler spots of the star.</p>

<p>“We see a signal, and it’s almost certainly due to water. But we can't tell yet if that water is part of the planet's atmosphere, meaning the planet has an atmosphere, or if we’re just seeing a water signature coming from the star,” said Sarah Moran of the University of Arizona in Tucson as quoted by NASA on its website. Moran is the lead author of the study.</p>

<p>“Water vapor in an atmosphere on a hot rocky planet would represent a major breakthrough for exoplanet science. But we must be careful and make sure that the star is not the culprit,” added Kevin Stevenson of the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Maryland. Stevenson was quoted by NASA.&nbsp;</p>

JWST catches evidence of water vapour around faraway planet

<p>The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) observed a sensor glitch in a key instrument of the James Webb Telescope. The telescope was launched on December 25, 2021, and has been offering scientists unprecedented views into the universe beyond Earth. According to a report by the news agency IANS on Wednesday (April 26), NASA and its partners are investigating the problem with the telescope. The glitch was found during a routine performance monitoring and calibration of all 17 observing modes of the telescope.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Mission officials found out a discrepancy in data, and they zeroed in on a mode of Mid-Infrared Instrument's (MIRI)&nbsp;Medium Resolution Spectroscopy (MRS). The officials found that the mode was receiving less sensor throughput less than the expected amount of light -- at the longest wavelengths. No risk was seen for MIRI imaging and the instrument.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a mission update, the officials said, "Analysis of MIRI`s Medium Resolution Spectroscopy (MRS) mode revealed that at the longest wavelengths, the throughput, or the amount of light that is ultimately registered by MIRI`s sensors, has decreased since commissioning last year."</p>

<p>The update said that no effect had been seen for MIRI imaging, and there was no risk to the instrument. "All other observation modes -- within MIRI and each of Webb`s other scientific instruments -- remain unaffected," it added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Webb team would continue MIRI observations as planned. The team would gather all relevant ground test and flight data to fully assess the MRS performance. Further test observations would be taken to completely characterise the nature of the issue using this particular mode of observation, IANS reported.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The team said that it continues to investigate the case, identify risks and explore mitigations which would potentially improve performance. The team added that one possible mitigation strategy included taking slightly longer exposures at the affected wavelengths to increase the signal-to-noise.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This was not the first time that the MIRI faced a glitch with the MRS. Last year, the instrument had a stuck grating wheel for a few months between August and November, but MIRI was still able to observe in other modes.</p>

<p>The city is around eight kilometres or nearly five miles away from the launch site, but the distance really didn't matter in this case. Cars, homes and roads were all reportedly left covered in a&nbsp;layer of dust after the blast-off.</p>

"Cameron County Emergency Management Division has confirmed that the dust that fell this morning in Port Isabel was sand and soil from near the Space X launch site that was lofted into the air by the force of lift-off," the city confirmed, as per Business Insider.</p>

<p>Speaking to the publication, a representative of the Derry Elementry School, Port Isabel said people's vehicles were covered with ash.</p>

Global space agencies like the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and China National Space Administration (CNSA) have in recent years sent rovers to Mars to aid this search remotely. However, the accuracy of these random searches remains low.</p>

<p>To remedy this, the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) Institute has been exploring the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for finding extraterrestrial life on Mars and other icy worlds.</p>

<p>According to a report on Space, a recent study from SETI&nbsp;states that AI could be used to detect microbial life in the depths of the icy oceans on other planets.</p>

<p>In a paper published in Nature Astronomy, the team details how they trained a machine-learning model to scan data for signs of microbial life or other unusual features that could be indicative of alien life.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Using a machine learning algorithm called convolutional neural networks (CNNs) a multidisciplinary team of scientists led by SETI's Kim Warren-Rhodes has mapped sparse lifeforms on Earth.&nbsp;Warren-Rhodes worked alongside experts from other prestigious institutions: Michael Phillips of Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab&nbsp;and Freddie Kalaitzis of the University&nbsp;of Oxford.</p>

<p>The system developed by them used statistical ecology and AI-detected biosignatures with up to 87.5 per cent accuracy, compared to only 10 per cent for random searches. As per the researchers, it&nbsp;can&nbsp;potentially reduce the search area by up to 97 per cent, making it easier for scientists to locate potential chemical traces of life.&nbsp;</p>

<p>For testing their system,&nbsp;they initially&nbsp;focused on the sparse lifeforms that dwell in salt domes, rocks, and crystals at Salar de Pajonales at the boundary of the Chilean Atacama Desert and Altiplano.</p>

<p>Warren-Rhodes and his team collected over 8,000 images and 1,000 samples from Salar de Pajonales to search for photosynthetic microbes that may represent a biosignature on NASA's "ladder of life detection" for finding life beyond Earth.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The team also used drone imagery to simulate Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter's High-Resolution Imaging Experiment camera's Martian terrain images to examine the region.</p>

<p>They found that microbial life in the region is concentrated in biological hotspots that strongly relate to the availability of water.</p>

<p>Researchers suggest that the machine learning tools developed can be used in robotic planetary missions like NASA's Perseverance Rover. The tools can guide rovers towards areas with a higher probability of having traces of alien life, even if they are rare or hidden.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"With these models, we can design tailor-made roadmaps and algorithms to guide rovers to places with the highest probability of harbouring past or present life  — no matter how hidden or rare," explained Warren-Rhodes.&nbsp;</p>

The team also used drone imagery to simulate Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter's High-Resolution Imaging Experiment camera's Martian terrain images to examine the region. They found that microbial life in the region is concentrated in biological hotspots that strongly relate to the availability of water. Researchers suggest that the machine learning tools developed can be used in robotic planetary missions like NASA's Perseverance Rover. The tools can guide rovers towards areas with a higher probability of having traces of alien life, even if they are rare or hidden. "With these models, we can design tailor-made roadmaps and algorithms to guide rovers to places with the highest probability of harbouring past or present life  — no matter how hidden or rare," explained Warren-Rhodes. What is special about this is that in what could've been a tussle with two other black holes, this supermassive black hole was ejected from its own galaxy. Additionally, its trail of infant stars is an astounding 200,000 light-years long chain. This "contrail" of newborn starts as per Science Daily is twice the diameter of our Milky Way galaxy.</p>

<p>The black hole is huge — it has a mass equivalent to around 20 million suns — and is travelling a such a breakneck speed that it can cover the 382,500 kilometres distance between our planet Earth and its moon in just 14 minutes.</p>

<p>Black holes are notorious for gobbling up stars in their wake, but this one is different. It is moving too fast to act like a "cosmic Pac-Man" and snack on whatever crosses its path. Instead, as per Science Daily, it is "plowing into gas in front of it to trigger new star formation along a narrow corridor," which is forming its trail of newborn stars.</p>

<p>This unique behaviour has astounded scientists who say that nothing like this has ever been seen before.</p>

<p>Talking about the discovery, Pieter van Dokkum of Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, said: "What we're seeing is the aftermath. Like the wake behind a ship we're seeing the wake behind the black hole."&nbsp;</p>

<p>Reportedly, the trail is almost half as bright as the host galaxy it is linked to. This means it must have lots of new stars.</p>

<p>"This is pure serendipity that we stumbled across it," adds Dokkum.</p>

<p>Astronomers believe that this astounding phenomenon is the result of multiple collisions of three supermassive black holes, two of which must have collided around 50 million years ago. This collision would have created a binary black hole.</p>

<p>'Two's company and three's a crowd," when another blackhole joined the mix, it created a chaotic and unstable configuration and one of the three was thrown out. The single black hole travelled in one direction, the pair in another. As per the astronomers, this could be deduced by circumstantial evidence; there is no active black hole remaining in that galaxy's centre. To confirm these theories, they will now conduct follow-up observations with NASA's James Webb Space Telescope and the Chandra X-ray Observatory. NASA's upcoming Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope might also provide some insight.</p>

<p>JWST has done it again! It has found four most distant galaxies ever observed. One of them was formed just 320 million years after The Big Bang. This number may look huge but on cosmic scale, it's small enough in order to be just two per cent of current age of the Universe.&nbsp;</p>

<p>By the time light from the most distant galaxies reaches Earth, it has been stretched by the expansion of the universe and shifted to the infrared region of the light spectrum.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Webb telescope's NIRCam instrument has an unprecedented ability to detect this infrared light, allowing it to quickly spot a range of never-before-seen galaxies -- some of which could reshape astronomers' understanding of the early universe.</p>

<p>In two studies published in the Nature Astronomy journal, astronomers revealed they have "unambiguously detected" the four most distant galaxies ever observed.</p>

<p>Stephane Charlot, a researcher at the Astrophysics Institute of Paris and co-author of the two new studies, told AFP that the farthest galaxy -- called JADES-GS-z13-0 -- formed 320 million years after the Big Bang.</p>

<p>That is the greatest distance ever observed by astronomers, he said.</p>

<p>The Webb telescope also confirmed the existence of JADES-GS-z10-0, which dates from 450 million years after the Big Bang and had previously been spotted by the Hubble Space Telescope.</p>

<p>All four galaxies are "very low in mass," weighing roughly a hundred million solar masses, Charlot said. The Milky Way, in comparison, weighs 1.5 trillion solar masses by some estimations.</p>

<p>But the galaxies are "very active in star formation in proportion to their mass," Charlot said.</p>

<p>"This mission will debut Firefly’s unique two-stage Blue Ghost spacecraft, offering NASA and other customers multiple deployment options as we collectively build the infrastructure for ongoing lunar operations and planetary exploration," said the rocket maker in a statement.</p>

Five months and counting...NASA images show China's Mars rover 'Zhurong' hasn't moved

<p>The James Webb Space Telescope, launched in 2021,&nbsp;has detected evidence of six massive ancient galaxies, which astronomers are calling 'universe breakers,' which can possibly change the existing theories of cosmology.</p>

<p>These objects possibly date to a time when the universe was just three per cent of its current age and are far larger than what was presumed possible for galaxies so early after the big bang, Guardian reported.</p>

<p>If confirmed, these findings would call into question scientists' understanding of how the galaxies were formed.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Redness in astronomy is a proxy for age, which happens as light travels across the expanding universe it is stretched out or red-shifted.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Experts believe that these galaxies appeared to be roughly 13.5 billion years old and about 500-700 million years after the big bang.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This observation is not the oldest galaxies spotted.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Last year, scientists spotted four galaxies that date to about 350 million years after the big bang.&nbsp;</p>

<p>They will be transported aboard a United Launch Alliance (ULA) rocket that has been dubbed 'Enterprise'.</p>

<p>Enterprise also happens to be the name of the starship in the sci-fi show Star Trek.</p>

<p>An asteroid, previously unknown and roughly the size of Rome's Colosseum has been detected by NASA's James Webb Space Telescope. It is the smallest cosmic object that Webb has discovered to date.</p>

<p>NASA took to its social media handles to inform about the discovery saying the asteroid had photobombed the Webb telescope.</p>

<p>The asteroid is between 300 to 650 feet (100 to 200 meters) in length and was discovered by European astronomers using Webb's Mid-InfraRed Instrument (MIRI). It was Webb's insane capability that a roughly 100-metre object at a distance of more than 100 million kilometres could be detected.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“This is a fantastic result which highlights the capabilities of MIRI to serendipitously detect a previously undetectable size of asteroid in the main belt. Repeats of these observations are in the process of being scheduled, and we are fully expecting new asteroid interlopers in those images," said Thomas Müller, an astronomer at the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics in Germany.&nbsp;</p>

NASA's Webb gets 'photobombed' by a Colosseum-sized asteroid

<p>The internet is abuzz with mentions of Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) a.k.a., the green comet, which on Wednesday could be seen with the naked eye.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per NASA, the comet paid our planet a visit after a good 50,000 years. It was a rare feast for stargazers and astronomers alike as people around the globe witnessed the astronomical event.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) paved the way for a new era of astronomy with the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), which is the most powerful telescope ever launched into space. <p>Now, NASA said that James Webb's recent observations revealed that the spectacular rings surrounding asteroid Chariklo are home to water ice.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The asteroid Chariklo was originally discovered in 1997. Reports have mentioned that it is not possible for any current space telescopes to properly observe it or take images of it because it is quite far away. According to NASA, Chariklo is the largest of the known Centaur population and is located more than two billion miles away beyond the orbit of Saturn.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After its discovery in 1997, astronomers found the rings later in 2013. Using ground-based telescopes, experts discovered that Chariklo hosts a system of two thin rings. But the powerful James Webb telescope has now gathered more details.&nbsp;</p>

<p>During a phenomenon known as an occultation, astronomers were able to use the telescope to inspect the asteroid. Occultation means when a star or planet moves behind another.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In its blog published on January 25, NASA said that the rings are "probably composed of small particles of water ice mixed with dark material, debris from an icy body that collided with Chariklo in the past".&nbsp;</p>

It explained that this was the first stellar occultation attempted with the Webb telescope and a lot of hard work went into identifying and refining the predictions for this unusual event.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The space agency further explained that Chariklo is too small and too far away for even Webb to directly image the rings separated from the main body. It said that occultations are the only tool to characterise the rings by themselves.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per NASA’s Perseverance Rover, which is also wandering Mars’s surface, the temperature in the planet’s Jezero Crater has only briefly risen higher than Zhurong’s lowest heat requirement.&nbsp;</p>

<p>But given that Perseverance is nearer to the red planet’s equator - located around seven degrees latitude south of its Chinese counterpart - it may be experiencing slightly more favourable conditions than Zhurong.</p>

<p><strong>How is Perseverance awake?</strong></p>

<p>NASA's 2020 rover Perseverance, meanwhile, is not asleep. It is nuclear-powered and doesn’t need to hibernate.</p>

<p>The rover's mission with which China achieved the status of being the second country to reach the surface of Mars is already a great success.</p>

<p>But only time can tell if it will wake up to achieve bigger and better things.</p>

<p>The Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) which is located in India’s Pune, has detected a radio signal originating from an extremely distant galaxy.</p>

<p>Astronomers from McGill University in Canada and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) are behind the detection of these signals.&nbsp;The findings have been published in the scientific journal Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.&nbsp;</p>

<p>With the signal travelling across the largest astronomical distance to reach us, this discovery marks a historical point in humanity’s astronomical journey.</p>

<p>“The astronomical distance over which such a signal has been picked up is the largest so far by a large margin. This is also the first confirmed detection of strong lensing of 21 cm emission from a galaxy”, said the IISc in a statement.</p>

<p>The signal reportedly originated from the atomic hydrogen of an ‘extremely’ distant galaxy. As per IISc, atomic hydrogen is the basic fuel required for star formation in a galaxy.</p>

<p>As per the information available on the IISc website, “when hot ionised gas from the surrounding medium of a galaxy falls onto the galaxy, the gas cools and forms atomic hydrogen, which then becomes molecular hydrogen, and eventually leads to the formation of stars. Therefore, understanding the evolution of galaxies over cosmic time requires tracing the evolution of neutral gas at different cosmological epochs.”</p>

<p>The radio signal was reportedly extremely weak.</p>

<p>However, it is still significant due to the fact that it is nearly impossible to detect emissions from a distant galaxy using the technology which is currently available. The telescopes currently have limited sensitivity.</p>

<p>“Until now, the most distant galaxy detected using 21 cm emission was at redshift z=0.376, which corresponds to a look-back time – the time elapsed between detecting the signal and its original emission – of 4.1 billion years,” said IISc in its statement.</p>

<p>Here, ‘Redshift’ refers to the change in wavelength of the signal depending on the object’s location and movement. Furthermore, the greater the value of z, the farther the object is.</p>

India-based telescope detects faint radio signal from an extremely distant galaxy

<p>NASA’s largest and most powerful space science telescope, the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has made the groundbreaking discovery of a planet that is around 99 per cent the size of Earth. It is located in the constellation Otans, and is just 41 light years away from our home planet. The newly discovered exoplanet has formally been classified as LHS 475 b., and currently not much is known about its atmosphere and whether it is fit to be inhabited by humans. While researchers have ruled out a thick methane-dominated atmosphere similar to that of Saturn’s moon Titan, they say that atmospheric compositions like a pure carbon dioxide atmosphere have not been ruled out.</p>

<p>He remarked that the telescope “is bringing us closer and closer to a new understanding of Earth-like worlds outside our solar system, and the mission is only just getting started.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>The twinkling of thousands of stars illuminates the telescope's first shot of the gigantic gold, copper and brown columns standing in the midst of the cosmos.</p>

<p>Bright red lava-like spots can be seen at the ends of several pillars.</p>

<p>"These are ejections from stars that are still forming," only a few hundred thousand years old, NASA said in a statement.</p>

<p>These "young stars periodically shoot out supersonic jets that collide with clouds of material, like these thick pillars," added NASA.</p>

<p>These 'pillars of creation' in the Eagle Nebula in Milky Way Galaxy. The nebula is 6,500 light years away from Earth.</p>

<p>The pillars were first captured by Hubble Space Telescope, humanity's original 'eye-in-the-sky'. They were clicked first in 1995 and then again in 2014.</p>

<p>James Webb Space Telescope has released a stunning photo of another spectacle of the universe. Astronomers are awestruck after seeing the first images of the Orion Nebula that were released by an international research team on Monday (September 12).&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Orion Nebula is approximately 1,344 light years away from earth. It is a diffuse nebula situated in the Milky Way, south of Orion's Belt in the constellation of Orion. It is one of the brightest nebulae and is visible to the naked eye in the night sky.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Orion Nebula is in a similar setting in which our own solar system was birthed more than 4.5 billion years ago. Its age is over three million years.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Images of the Orion Nebula were obtained as part of the Early Release Science programme. It involved more than 100 scientists in 18 countries.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Western University astrophysicist Els Peeters said in a statement: "We are blown away by the breathtaking images of the Orion Nebula. These new observations allow us to better understand how massive stars transform the gas and dust cloud in which they are born."&nbsp;</p>

Scientifically speaking, there is a process that uses audio to give users a perception of data. This is called sonification. The concept is interesting in itself but when you associate that with an image clicked by James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), it becomes all the more fascinating.</p>

<p>NASA has teamed up with scientists, musicians and a member of visually impaired community to carry out sonification of an image. It is an image of a nebula. More specifically Carina Nebula. Nebulas are nurseries of stars. New stars are born there.</p>

<p>The sonification of the image is aimed at aiding blind individuals to 'see' the image with help of sound.</p>

<p>“These compositions provide a different way to experience the detailed information in Webb’s first data. Similar to how written descriptions are unique translations of visual images, sonifications also translate the visual images by encoding information, like colour, brightness, star locations, or water absorption signatures, as sounds,” said Quyen Hart, a senior education and outreach scientist at the Space Telescope Science Institute, in a NASA press statement.</p>

<p>The signs of carbon dioxide have been detected in the atmosphere of a planet outside our solar system for the first time by the James Webb Space Telescope.</p>

<p>The successful discovery of CO2 gives researchers hope that similar observations could be carried out on rocky objects more hospitable to life although the exoplanet would never be able to support life as we know it.</p>

<p>According to the US space agency NASA, the detection of CO2 will also help scientists learn more about how WASP-39 formed.</p>

<p>WASP-39, which has a mass one-quarter that of Jupiter but a diameter 1.3 times bigger, orbits a star 700 light years away from the Earth.</p>

<p>A top French scientist&nbsp;Etienne Klein had tweeted an image of a red ball of fire last week&nbsp;apparently taken by the James Webb Space telescope as Twitter celebrated the new discovery, however, the picture turned out to be an image of Spanish sausage chorizo.</p>

<p>Klein marvelled at the "level of detail" in his post while highlighting that it was taken by James Webb Space Telescope as the image exploded on Twitter. However, the French scientist backtracked saying it wasn't a star but spicy Spanish sausage chorizo.</p>

<p>US space agency NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA) said Tuesday that an image of the Cartwheel Galaxy captured by the James Webb Space Telescope reveals the spinning ring of colour in unprecedented clarity.</p>

<p>Peering through time and huge amounts of dust, the Webb telescope has a far greater reach in comparison to the Hubble telescope which had previously captured images of the rare ring galaxy.</p>

<p>During a spectacular head-on collision between two galaxies, the Cartwheel, which is located around 500 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Sculptor, gained its shape.</p>

<p>As per a joint statement by NASA and the ESA, the impact sent two rings expanding from the galaxy's centre.</p>

<p>"We found two very compelling candidates for extremely distant galaxies. If these galaxies are at the distance we think they are, the universe is only a few hundred million years old at that point," he said while speaking to New Scientist.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Notably, the more distant objects are from us, the longer it takes for their light to reach us. So in order to look back into the distant universe is to see into the deep past.&nbsp;</p>

<p>James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has revolutionised the way we 'look' at the Universe. While good ol' Hubble Space Telescope steadfastly sent ever-beautiful images of the Universe for decades, JWST is humanity's most powerful eye in the sky now. The telescope is going to let us peer into corners of the Universe never seem before. It has already started its work.</p>

<p>A scientist has used sets of data captured by JWST and made a brilliant image of a faraway galaxy. The purple swirls of the spiral galaxy are indeed a marvel to behold.</p>

<p>Time for science speak. Gabriel Brammer of University of Copenhagen in Denmark downloaded the datasets captured by JWST. While hubble focussed on capturing images of the cosmos in visible spectrum, JWST primarily captures images in infrared spectrum. Human eyes cannot naturally perceive infrared light.</p>

<p>Brammer took the infrared datasets and 'translated' them into visible light (Red-Green-Blue). He then combined the three images that produced the mesmerising swirl of purple that we can see in the picture. Brammer is not associated with JWST team.</p>

<p>The galaxy captured in the pic is designated NGC 628. It appears purple in the image because of chemical composition of dust clouds in the galaxy.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“If our eyes could see in these mid-infrared wavelengths, the night sky would look a lot more like this picture, which I think would be spectacular, maybe a little terrifying,” says Brammer.</p>

<p>The center of the galaxy appears as if a dragon has its green gaze over us.</p>

James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has revolutionised the way we 'look' at the Universe. While good ol' Hubble Space Telescope steadfastly sent ever-beautiful images of the Universe for decades, JWST is humanity's most powerful eye in the sky now.

The telescope is going to let us peer into corners of the Universe never seem before. It has already started its work. A scientist has used sets of data captured by JWST and made a brilliant image of a faraway galaxy. The purple swirls of the spiral galaxy are indeed a marvel to behold. Time for science speak. Gabriel Brammer of University of Copenhagen in Denmark downloaded the datasets captured by JWST. While hubble focussed on capturing images of the cosmos in visible spectrum, JWST primarily captures images in infrared spectrum. Human eyes cannot naturally perceive infrared light. Brammer took the infrared datasets and 'translated' them into visible light (Red-Green-Blue). He then combined the three images that produced the mesmerising swirl of purple that we can see in the picture. Brammer is not associated with JWST team. The galaxy captured in the pic is designated NGC 628. It appears purple in the image because of chemical composition of dust clouds in the galaxy. “If our eyes could see in these mid-infrared wavelengths, the night sky would look a lot more like this picture, which I think would be spectacular, maybe a little terrifying,” says Brammer. 'Dragon's eye': Scientist creates image of galaxy using James Webb Space Telescope

<p>James Webb Space Telescope is humanity's latest eye in the sky. The most powerful telescope ever built by humankind has officially started working and has its sights set on farthest corners of the Universe never seen before. The first image from the telescope has wowed everyone across the globe. The subsequent images were mesmerising as well.</p>

<p>But another unique image has now been released by NASA. It is of the planet Jupiter. The enormous gas giant in our Solar System has been clicked by James Webb Space Telescope. But the image shows Jupiter a bit differently. Usual pictures of Jupiter show the planet in reddish hue. But in this picture, the gas giant appears white-hot.</p>

<p>That is because the image has been taken in Infrared frequencies.</p>

<p>The photo was taken before the space telescope became fully functional.</p>

<p>"These images are designed for engineering purposes, so they aren’t processed in the same way as our first images this week. Like some earlier calibration images, these are processed to emphasize certain features," said NASA in its tweet.</p>

<p>“Combined with the deep field images released the other day, these images of Jupiter demonstrate the full grasp of what Webb can observe, from the faintest, most distant observable galaxies to planets in our own cosmic backyard that you can see with the naked eye from your actual backyard,” said Bryan Holler, a scientist at the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore. Holler was quoted by NASA.</p>
