The war is raging between Israel and Hamas and attacks from both sides are intensifying. It's now 9 days since Israel declared war on Hamas after an unprecedented ground air and sea assault by the militants over the weekend. The death toll continues to mount on both sides.

It has been a week since Hamas militants launched a brutal attack on Israel which took the country and world by surprise. On Saturday (Oct 14), Israeli officials said that over 1,300 civilians and security forces have been killed since the attack began. Hamas officials, on the other hand, said that relentless Israeli air strikes on the blockaded Palestinian enclave have killed upwards of 2,200 including at least 600 children.

Israel-Palestine war: Urban warfare to determine war outcome

<p>As the war in West Asia entered its second week, Israel said that it would take down Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar who is on the radar of defence forces in the wake of the October 7 onslaught, a move reportedly being taken by the Palestinian militant group on his directions. They have launched an intense operation to locate Yahya in Gaza.</p>

<p>Sinwar, who played a key role in orchestrating one of the most devastating attacks in Israeli history and is currently in the crosshairs of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), has also been likened to Osama bin Laden, representing an important target for Israeli authorities.</p>

<p>“When they chose to go full front against Israel, they signed their own death warrants," IDF Lt. Col. Peter Lerner reportedly said.</p>

<p>Yahya Sinwar, a US-designated terrorist, is the current head of Hamas in the Gaza Strip.</p>

<p>Despite facing multiple arrests by Israel and spending 24 years in Israeli prisons, he remains a significant figure in the Hamas hierarchy.</p>

<p>Sinwar got out in 2011 as part of a prisoner exchange for Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.</p>

<p>He is held accountable for the October 7 attack, a tragic event responsible for the loss of thousands of Israeli lives. This assault by Hamas is one of the most significant breaches in Israel's defences since the Yom Kippur War in 1973.</p>

<h2><strong>'The face of evil'</strong></h2>

<p>Described by IDF Lt. Col. Richard Hecht as "the face of evil" and likened to Bin Laden, Sinwar's notoriety stemmed&nbsp;from his ruthless actions, particularly against Palestinians he perceived as collaborators.&nbsp;“He is the mastermind behind this like Bin Laden was," Hecht said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This reputation earned him the moniker "The butcher of Khan Younis." Israel's military has made it unequivocally clear that they will not rest until Sinwar is located and neutralised. Lt. Col. Hecht reiterated, "That man and his whole team are in our sights. We will get to that man."</p>

<h2><strong>Hamas leadership under scrutiny</strong></h2>

<p>Alongside Yahya Sinwar, Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas' political wing, operates from a base in Qatar, where he leads a lavish lifestyle.</p>

<p>Information regarding last weekend's operation was known to only a select few Hamas leaders, a strategic move to maintain the element of surprise.</p>

<p>What brought Haniyeh to the spotlight yet again was a viral video that started circulating on social media where the Hamas leader was seen watching the assault on Israel from his comfortable office, reportedly in Doha.</p>

<p>Some reports said that Haniyeh's move to lay this big an assault on Israel, widely recognised for having a robust and highly effective defence system, could be because of his ties with Iran and Qatar.&nbsp;</p>

As the war in West Asia entered its second week, Israel said that it would take down Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar who is on the radar of defence forces in the wake of the October 7 onslaught, a move reportedly being taken by the Palestinian militant group on his directions. They have launched an intense operation to locate Yahya in Gaza. Sinwar, who played a key role in orchestrating one of the most devastating attacks in Israeli history and is currently in the crosshairs of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), has also been likened to Osama bin Laden, representing an important target for Israeli authorities. “When they chose to go full front against Israel, they signed their own death warrants," IDF Lt. Col. Peter Lerner reportedly said. Also Read | Israeli canine unit 'Oketz' saves 200 lives during Hamas attack Yahya Sinwar, a US-designated terrorist, is the current head of Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Despite facing multiple arrests by Israel and spending 24 years in Israeli prisons, he remains a significant figure in the Hamas hierarchy. Sinwar got out in 2011 as part of a prisoner exchange for Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. He is held accountable for the October 7 attack, a tragic event responsible for the loss of thousands of Israeli lives. This assault by Hamas is one of the most significant breaches in Israel's defences since the Yom Kippur War in 1973. 'The face of evil' Described by IDF Lt. Col. Richard Hecht as "the face of evil" and likened to Bin Laden, Sinwar's notoriety stemmed from his ruthless actions, particularly against Palestinians he perceived as collaborators. “He is the mastermind behind this like Bin Laden was," Hecht said. Also Read | 'Butchered, limbs mutilated, raped': Israeli forensic teams describe Hamas atrocities This reputation earned him the moniker "The butcher of Khan Younis." Israel's military has made it unequivocally clear that they will not rest until Sinwar is located and neutralised. Lt. Col. Hecht reiterated, "That man and his whole team are in our sights. We will get to that man." Hamas leadership under scrutiny Alongside Yahya Sinwar, Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas' political wing, operates from a base in Qatar, where he leads a lavish lifestyle. Information regarding last weekend's operation was known to only a select few Hamas leaders, a strategic move to maintain the element of surprise. Watch | Israel-Palestine war:Israel prepares ground assault on Gaza as Palestinians flee × What brought Haniyeh to the spotlight yet again was a viral video that started circulating on social media where the Hamas leader was seen watching the assault on Israel from his comfortable office, reportedly in Doha. Some reports said that Haniyeh's move to lay this big an assault on Israel, widely recognised for having a robust and highly effective defence system, could be because of his ties with Iran and Qatar. BBC Middle East journalists’ social media posts on Hamas attack spark ‘bias’ concerns

Hamas may have just 1/10th the numbers that Israel has but Israel is stepping into HAMAS’ back yard and here’s why Israel’s ground assault on Gaza will not be a walk-over.

Israel vs Hamas: not a walk-over?

<p>A pizzeria located in the West Bank that posted an advertisement using the image of an Israeli woman, who is a Holocaust survivor, during her capture by Hamas terrorists, has been demolished. This woman was photographed in her wheelchair during the Hamas attack.</p>

<p>Times of Israel reported that the eatery in Huwara shared a Facebook ad featuring the woman in her wheelchair, holding a pizza. The ad bore the phrase "You are welcome," accompanied by laughing emojis. This advertisement sparked outrage and condemnation.</p>

<h2><strong>Israeli Prime Minister's call for demolition</strong></h2>

<p>Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu swiftly called for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to bulldoze the restaurant after the offensive ad gained attention. In response, Israeli settlers congregated around the establishment, demanding its demolition. Israeli forces are closely monitoring the situation in the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the northern border.</p>

<p>The owners of the pizzeria disassociated themselves from the offensive ad, asserting that someone had posted it without their knowledge or consent. They issued an apology on Facebook, expressing their disapproval of harming individuals and their desire to earn a dignified living while living in peace with others. They conveyed their remorse to their family members and anyone who was hurt by the incident.</p>

<p>The aftermath of the attacks has been marked by a grim toll. In Kfar Aza, southern Israel, several infants and toddlers were discovered decapitated, as stated by Tal Heinrich, a spokesperson for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Reports indicate that over 1,300 individuals have lost their lives, with more than 2,000 others sustaining injuries. Additionally, at least 100 Israelis are believed to have been taken hostage.</p>
