Social media platform Instagram on Wednesday announced new measures in an attempt to tackle online abuses following a series of "horrifying” racist attacks on Premier League footballers.

Social media platform Instagram on Wednesday announced new measures in an attempt to tackle online abuses following a series of "horrifying” racist attacks on Premier League footballers. The likes of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Axel Tuanzebe from Manchester United, as well as Chelsea's Reece James have been subjected to online abuses in recent weeks. The photo-blogging platform said that it would remove accounts sending abusive messages. Fadzai Madzingira, content policy manager at Instagram's parent company Facebook, told Britain's Press Association news agency she was "horrified" at the vitriol directed at footballers. "Currently, we will set a specific ban or what we call a block for a set amount of time when someone violates those rules and we extend that time should they continue to do so," she said. "What we're announcing today is that we're taking tougher measures on people who violate those rules in Instagram direct messaging, so instead of just extending the time, we'll be removing the accounts altogether. The abuse hasn't been limited to private messages as players are witnessing loads of monkey emoticons and racist terms in the comment section of their respective posts. A number of similar accounts have been used for sending abuses, something Madzingira says Instagram continues to work on. However, she pointed to comment filters that can block specific words, phrases and emojis from appearing. "What we're trying to address is the online aspect but there's definitely a broader conversation we need to have about what does racism in sport look like and how do we stop that sort of behaviour?" Instagram said that it took immediate action on 6.5 million pieces of hate speech, including direct messages between July and September 2020. The Football Association (FA) has called for action from the British government to tackle the issue on priority. "As a company, we've been really open," Madzingira said.
An Iranian Instagram star Sahar Tabar has been arrested and sentenced to 10 years in prison for posting distorted images online.

Tabar, whose real name is Fatemeh Khishvand, is a 19-year-old Iranian woman who was popular on the social media platform Instagram and at one point had nearly 486,000 followers. However, her good days suddenly turned into a nightmare when she was arrested for her social media activities.

She gained followers by posting several pictures and videos. In some of these pictures, Tabar can be seen with filters on her face which gave her a gaunt look similar to a zombie. As per authorities, through these images, she had disrespected the Islamic Republic.

It was also alleged that these images of Tabar were corrupting young children's brains. She has been charged with blasphemy, gaining wealth from inappropriate means, inciting violence and encouraging youngsters for corruption. She claimed to have been, now, cleared of two out of four charges. However, she has refused to point out the details as she is now hoping for a complete pardon.

She was arrested a year ago and had also requested a release from detention claiming she had been infected by the deadly coronavirus. Tabar has also been presented as a "victim with an abnormal personality and mental state" by the local media. This portrayal of her personality has been backed by her medical records which point towards a condition of medical instability and add several visits to psychiatric hospitals as a proof of the same.

Tabar had also made tries to reach out to the Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie, requesting her tp stand up for another woman in need of support. "The Islamic Republic has a history of tormenting women. We need to be united against this gender apartheid," she had said.

Her lawyers are now hoping for a complete pardon on the basis of her medical condition and her age at the time of the alleged crime.

I want to take up this moment to share a few thoughts that have been in my heart for a while. I wanted to wait to speak out until the case ended, but it’s taken longer than expected. I don’t know where to start from. It is difficult to express some feelings when so many people, so many emotions are involved. First, I want to thank those who have stood by me like a pillar of strength. It has been a long journey that started when I was still trying to understand life. I have been fighting the case in court for the last 6 years, with patience and respect, waiting for the trial to be completed. In this process I have been called a murderer, a criminal, an abuser and so much worse. I read these things about me almost every single day. And my heartfelt effort has always been to be strong, respectful and ignore it. But they still fill my and my loved ones’ heart with so much sadness. I don’t blame the people who call me names, because that’s how i have been portrayed in public, but i’m not the monster that has been portrayed in headlines. I know how easy it is to think the worst of someone and accuse them but it is exceptionally hard to prove myself innocent as there’s a procedure that we need to follow. A procedure that has taken long enough that i have been made to feel guilty without even being given a fair chance to prove my innocence. There have been accusations and assumptions but there has been no validation. But, this is not about what others say. This is about how I feel. For as long as I can remember, my dream has always been to make my parents proud. I have always tried to be a good son to them. In the last 6 years, I’ve tried harder everyday to achieve this dream and to be positive. So today, I am praying with my heart that our family can move forward, that the trial can come to a fair end and that I can give back all the love, support and strength I have received from so many of you. Thank you to all of you who constantly send positivity my way. You may not know it, but every single one of your prayers has helped.

Sushant Singh Rajput's untimely demise had re-ignited the nepotism debate on social media and several Bollywood celebrities, filmmakers, the star kids have over the past few months decided to quit social media accounts, to stay away from negativity and toxicity after being subjected to severe criticism. Now adding to the list, Sooraj Pancholi announced his leave from Instagram. The actor's name is, again and again, being linked to the deaths of the late actor and his ex-manager, Disha Salian. Sooraj has denied all the connections to the cases and also filed a complaint in the Mumbai Police, alleging harassment due to unsubstantiated reports connecting him to Disha and Sushant deaths. On Friday, the 'Hero' actor deleted all his Instagram post except one that he had posted on his birthday in November 2018. ''See you Instagram! Hopefully will see you someday when the world is a better place. I need to breathe #Suffocated,'' he wrote on his Instagram stories. View this post on Instagram Today I complete 28 years of my life. All you need to know about Bois Locker Room scandal

Seems like singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, who recently reconciled with fellow singer Katy Perry after a long-time feud, is in the spirit to mend some old relationships.Swift recently took to her Instagram stories to reply to singer Demi Lovato, who praised the star for her new album `Lover`.

Lovato on Monday shared the "jam" she`s been bopping to and it was none other than Swift`s hit song `Cruel Summer` from her newly released album `Lover`. Despite speculation that the singers were not on good terms, Lovato made it clear that those rumours couldn`t be farther from the truth as she supported Swift`s new album.

She went on to compliment Swift and squash rift rumours between the two."Life`s too short for women to not support other women. Especially when women release great music. Great job @taylorswift," Lovato captioned her Instagram Story, along with a heart, praise hands and clapping hands emojis.

The 27-year-old star`s post caught Taylor`s attention and she re-posted it to her own Instagram account."This is so awesome and put the biggest smile on my face. Thank you @ddlovato," the singer shared on Instagram story.

At the 2019 MTV VMAs, fans of the two singers believed that they were not on good terms, especially after Lovato shared a cryptic message on the photo-sharing application, reported E! News."I skipped the VMA`s for a REASON. Well that and I just hate award shows," Lovato posted on her Instagram Story on August 26.

It didn`t take long for fans to call out Lovato for "throwing shade" at Swift, who won big that night. However, the `Sorry Not Sorry` singer set the record straight that she wasn`t dissing anyone."Btw... I didn`t `shade` anyone last night. My REASON for not going is because I`m literally living my dream being on Will & Grace rn so stop reaching," Lovato said.

Lovato also previously sided with her new music manager, Scooter Braun, in his public feud with Swift earlier this year over his purchase of Swift`s music catalogue when he acquired Big Machine Label Group.

Back in June, Lovato weighed in on the Braun and Swift drama. The 27-year-old singer, who recently signed with Braun, took to Instagram Stories to side with the music manager."I have dealt with bad people in this industry and Scooter is not one of them. He`s a good man. Personally, I`m grateful he came into my life when he did. Please stop `dragging` people or bullying them. There`s enough hate in this world as it is," she shared. But despite everything that`s happened in recent months, looks like Swift and Lovato are putting their rift aside and focusing on uplifting each other.

A look at two weeks of mass protests and crackdown in Moscow

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, have unfollowed every user on their official Instagram handle which goes by the name Sussexroyal.

And before any criticism or backlash comes following the move, it is better to know the reason behind it.

The royal couple on Wednesday shared a post on the picture and video sharing platform asking their followers to nominate 15 accounts that should be crowned with their follow later this month and the months ahead.

This move is aimed at highlighting those 15 accounts. The post came accompanied with a picture which read, "Who is your force for change?"

"For the month of August we look to you for help. We want to know who YOUR Force for Change is.... Each month, we change the accounts we follow to highlight various causes, people or organisations doing amazing things for their communities and the world at large," they shared via their official handle.

The post came accompanied with a picture which read, "Who is your force for change?" "For the month of August we look to you for help. We want to know who YOUR Force for Change is.... Each month, we change the accounts we follow to highlight various causes, people or organisations doing amazing things for their communities and the world at large," they shared via their official handle. Here's why Prince Harry, Meghan Markle unfollow everyone on Instagram

Facebook Inc has removed a social media network in the Philippines for "coordinated inauthentic behaviour", and took the unusual step of linking it to a businessman who said he had managed the president's online election campaign in 2016.

Facebook said its investigation found that the online activity was linked to a network organised by a former chief executive of Omnicom Media Group Philippines, who it identified as Nic Gabunada, and said it had removed 200 pages of groups and accounts on Facebook and Instagram.

"The individuals behind this activity used a combination of authentic and fake accounts to disseminate content across a variety of pages and groups", Nathaniel Gleicher, Facebook's head of Cybersecurity Policy, said in a statement, dated on Thursday.

"They frequently posted about local and political news, including topics like the upcoming elections, candidate updates and views, alleged misconduct of political opponents, and controversial events that were purported to occur during previous administrations," he said.

Facebook said it had taken down the pages and accounts "based on their behaviour, not the content they posted".

Gabunada told ABS-CBN News that it was "unfortunate" that Facebook linked him to the questionable pages and accounts.

"If they will have to take down my account, it's their prerogative. On the other hand, they have to consider I'm not doing it for the sake of whatever it is that they're accusing me of," Gabunada said.

In an interview with the news site Rappler in May 2016, shortly after President Rodrigo Duterte had been elected, Gabunada said he had volunteered to help lead Duterte's social media team during his campaign.

Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Assistant Secretary Ana Marie Banaag said Duterte has only one communications group, the PCOO, and Gabunada is not part of it.

At least one of the pages taken down by Facebook was named "Duterte Warriors".

Another was named "Bong Go Supporters", referring to supporters of the president's longtime special assistant, Christopher "Bong" Go, who is running for the Senate.

Days after American rappers Cardi B and Offset announced their split, the latter is trying to right his wrongs by asking for forgiveness.

Taking to his official Instagram account, The `Migos` rapper revealed his 'one birthday wish' in a lengthy video on Saturday. His hope, he expressed, is to win Cardi B back and move on from the cheating scandal that caused them to split earlier this month.

Addressing Cardi directly, Offset said, "We`re going through a lot of things right now, a lot of things in the media. I want to apologise to you, Cardi. I embarrassed you. I made you go crazy."

''I was partaking in an activity that I shouldn`t have been partaking in, and I apologise. You know what I`m saying? For breaking your heart, for breaking our promise, for breaking God`s promise and being a selfish, messed up husband," he added.

Offset also mentioned the couple`s 5-month-old baby girl, saying, "Kulture, I want to spend Christmas with you."

I made you go crazy." ''I was partaking in an activity that I shouldn`t have been partaking in, and I apologise. You know what I`m saying? For breaking your heart, for breaking our promise, for breaking God`s promise and being a selfish, messed up husband," he added. Offset also mentioned the couple`s 5-month-old baby girl, saying, "Kulture, I want to spend Christmas with you."
