<h2>‘India and US have held five rounds of negotiations’</h2> “One of the big changes in recent years is that the United States, which for decades worried about its external energy dependence, has not only become self-sufficient but is now a significant exporter of energy and has made it a key part of its strategic outlook,” he further said. It will be discussed at every level, from working groups to ministerial and head-of-government. The document is expected to be the bedrock of ties. Looking ahead, the 14th round of FTA talks is slated for early October, followed by a visit from the chair of the EU Parliament’s standing committee on trade matters. In November, EAM Jaishankar was invited to Brussels for the Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum as the EU pivots towards the region that is seen as key to global growth. Speaking in the Lok Sabha during a discussion on Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor, Jaishankar said, “I want to make two things very clear. One, at no stage in any conversation with the United States was there any linkage with trade and what was going on.” “Secondly, there was no call between the Prime Minister [Modi] and President Trump from the 22nd of April when President Trump called up to convey his sympathy and the 17th of June, when he called up Prime Minister [Modi] in Canada to explain why he could not meet,” Jaishankar added.

He said, "Today, the developing world, the south is feeling the pain. The south is seeing food shortage, the south is seeing fuel shortage and sometimes they cannot afford things. So somebody should speak up for them."&nbsp;

Jaishankar said that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided that India must take this responsibility as most of the developed countries are only looking at their concerns.&nbsp;

He said, "Our G20 must be G20 for the whole world. We must stand for the south. When I say 'we need to stand for the south' it is not just for the sake of saying it but do it through actions."&nbsp;

"We decided to meet with them. For two days, five-six ministers and the Prime Minister himself took a whole day to meet our counterparts and we consulted more than 120 countries," he added.&nbsp;

<h2>Jaishankar on Indus Water Treaty&nbsp;</h2>

Jaishankar also weighed in on the Indus Water Treaty (IWT) and said that is a technical matter. He further mentioned that Indus commissioners of both countries will talk to each other on this issue.&nbsp;

Jaishankar didn't comment on being asked about India's stance on current developments in Pakistan. He said, "In this (Indus Water) treaty, there are commissioners from both countries (India and Pakistan)."&nbsp;

It is a technical matter and Indus commissioners will talk to each other and after that, we can see what would be the next step," Jaishankar added.&nbsp;

India should stand for countries in south and developing world as they are feeling pain: Jaishankar

India's external affairs minister Dr Jaishankar will be travelling to United Arab Emirates (UAE) to take part in the 14th India- UAE Joint commission meeting (JCM).

The thirteenth&nbsp;session of the India-UAE Joint Commission meeting took place virtually in August 2020, co-chaired by EAM Jaishankar &amp; his counterpart UAE FM Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The last visit of EAM to UAE was in December 2021&nbsp;when he visited the country to take part in the fifth Indian Ocean Conference. The visit comes even as part of I2U2 grouping as both have increased engagement on renewable energy and&nbsp;agriculture products. The grouping&nbsp;with India, Israel, UAE and the US as its members&nbsp;held its first summit-level meeting in July.

Earlier this year, India and UAE signed the free trade agreement&nbsp;hailed as the key to increased economic cooperation. The FTA is India's first&nbsp;comprehensive trade agreement in a decade. Under the deal, duty is&nbsp;eliminated on 80 per cent&nbsp;of tariff lines. It is not only expected to add $9 billion to UAE's GDP by 2030 but it also will perform as a market for Indian products in the entire West Asian region.
