The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has responded to allegations levelled by Igor Stimac after he was sacked as the Indian men's senior team head coach. AIFF clarified the reasons for Stimac's sacking whilst also shedding light on the Croatian's 'misdeeds' during the coaching tenure.&nbsp;

“Mr Stimac’s communication – apparently made with the sole intent of maligning the AIFF and showing its personnel in poor light – is not befitting of a professional who has served the organisation for over 5 years and was extended the full support of the AIFF during this period," the statement read.&nbsp;

Stimac was sacked after India failed to advance to the third round of the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. However, Stimac, who took the job in 2019, did not go down quietly and held a press conference where he said Indian football will not grow until AIFF president Kalyan Chaubey remains in the position.&nbsp;

The federation, however, claimed to have provided Stimac full support, including&nbsp;autonomy in team selections, venues and support staff, adding that they facilitated player releases beyond FIFA windows.&nbsp;

While Stimac refused to address the question about having an astrologer in the backroom staff to pick the playing XIs, AIFF seemingly confirmed the accusation.&nbsp;

"The new AIFF leadership was shocked to note his dependence on an astrologer to determine player’s call ups, team selections and took immediate necessary action to end the same," AIFF said.&nbsp;

Former Indian men's football team captain Sunil Chhetri has poured his heart out in an exclusive conversation with WION after India&nbsp;lost out on a place in the third round of World Cup Qualifiers due to a controversial 'ghost goal' in the match against Qatar on Tuesday (Jun 11).&nbsp;

Chhetri said even though the decision by the referee and the linesman was not deliberate, they shouldn't have given the goal, especially when a country's fate depended on it.&nbsp;

"I&nbsp;am proud of the way our team fought. I was so mad at the decision. I don't want to be one of those players who just left and is trying to bash the referees. I know they didn't do it deliberately but come on...it's World Cup Qualifier. The whole country's fate depends on that," Chhetri told WION. 
 
"Of course now you can say it was 2-1, it would have been 1-1 but that goal changed it. When you are away and up for two-thirds of the game 1-0, it is not easy. The whole morale of the team changed," he added.&nbsp;

Chhetri, who retired last week after the match against Kuwait, said India would have tried to hang on to the one-goal lead, especially while playing away from home.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"It is very easy for me to say if we didn't concede we would have been winning 1-0...we don't know what would have happened. I can tell you, as an away team when you are 1-0 up, you are hanging on to win. You are playing the Asian champions, it's not easy.&nbsp; 
 
"These decisions should not have gone against us. Again, I must say it is not a deliberate decision but it was so clear the ball went out. Everyone stood. We have the luxury of the replay but&nbsp;it was so evident, there was no doubt and that goal just changed everything."

Chhetri lamented that if VAR had been in play, India would have survived the howler of a call and possibly went on to beat the mighty Asian champions.&nbsp;

Kharga said owing to his army background, he wanted Sunil to either join defence by taking the NDA exam or the prestigious St. Stephens College in the capital city of Delhi.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"Even after leaving Bagan after three years and joining JCT, initially, he wasn’t very happy. At the time he used to still consider taking his NDA exam. He was there in Punjab with his books while playing in the league for JCT," Chhetri Sr. told the Indian Express newspaper.&nbsp;

"But it was once he got into the Indian team, played under Sukhwinder Singh and made his debut against Pakistan that he finally felt like this was going to be his life from now on."

Wenger and his team are on a three-day visit with&nbsp;the 'Invincible' manager&nbsp;scheduled to inaugurate the&nbsp;AIFF-FIFA Academy in Bhubaneshwar, a city in the southern Indian state of Odisha on Tuesday (Nov 21).

“I would say I was always fascinated by India. My target is to improve football in the world. And it is impossible that a country like India, 1.4 billion, is not on the football world map," Wenger told media during a briefing.&nbsp;&nbsp;

“So imagine the potential that is here if we work well. And my main target here is to convince people that there is a gold mine here but at the moment it is not completely explored, exploited and encouraged.”

Wenger explained that a well-oriented talent development scheme could change the face of the sport in the country just the way it did in Japan.&nbsp;

“I was in Japan at the start of their football in 1995. In 1998, they were at the World Cup. So that means it is possible. You have to start early."

'There is a gold mine': Legendary Arsene Wenger optimistic regarding Indian football's future

Indian football team captain Sunil Chhetri is one of the greatest to have played for the country. He has been a great servant of Indian football and has carried the team on his shoulders over the years. Chhetri is currently India's all-time top-scorer and is still going strong despite turning 38 in August this year.

'Captain fantastic': FIFA honours Indian football legend Sunil Chhetri with docuseries on his career

India suffered a 0-3 thrashing at the hands of a higher-ranked Vietnam in the second and final match of the Hung Thinh Friendly Football Tournament here on Tuesday.

It was a reality check for the 104th ranked Indians after three convincing wins in June in the Asian Cup qualifiers and a 1-1 draw against Singapore in this tournament on Saturday as they were literally outplayed by the 97th-ranked Vietnam in the second half.

Phan Van Duc (10th), Nguyen Van Toan (49th) and Nguyen Van Quyet (70th) scored for Vietnam to no reply from the Indians whose defenders had a mediocre outing, especially in the second half.

The Indians, however, were on equal terms with their opponents in the first half only to be blown away in the second session. Vietnam won the tournament with two wins from as many matches. They had also thrashed Singapore 4-0 in their opening match.

India and Vietnam had played many a memorable matches in the past, one among them being the 2002 LG Cup final which India triumphed 3-1 having come back from behind to win the trophy. India and Vietnam last met in 2010 in an international friendly in Pune with the Blue Tigers running out 3-1 winners with Chhetri scoring a hat-trick.

But since then, Vietnam football has been on the ascendancy and they have been able to compete with the top teams of the continent. Earlier this year, they reached the final round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and also made it to the last eight stage of the 2019 Asian Cup.

The home side did not take long to surge ahead with Phan Van Duc finding the target in the 10th minute. The goal, though, could have been avoided had keeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu and central defender Sandesh Jhingan communicated well.

Vietnam went on the offensive but India also gradually came to their own and they had two clear scoring chances in the first half, courtesy fine assists from Akash Mishra who was superb on the left channel.

In the 26th minute, Mishra was in the thick of an Indian counter-attack and he sent a superb pass to Ashique Kuruniyan, at the edge of Vietnam box on left side. Kuruniyan's volley beat the goalie but went inches wide off the Vietnam far post.

Former Mohun Bagan and East Bengal goalkeeper Chaubey, a BJP leader from Bengal, is believed to be the front-runner with backing from politically important state associations like Gujarat and Arunachal Pradesh.

After the deadline of withdrawal of candidature ended at 1pm on Tuesday, returning officer Umesh Sinha released the final list of contestants for each post for the polls. The electoral college of 34 representatives from the state associations have already been issued by the returning officer.

Elections were to be held for the posts of one president, one vice president, one treasurer and 14 executive committee members. Six former players -- four male and two women -- will be co-opted later as executive committee members with voting rights.

As only 14 candidates remain in the fray for as many posts of executive committee members, all of them are set to be declared elected.

AIFF polls: As expected, straight fight for 3 top posts, Bhaichung Bhutia vs Kalyan Chaubey for president

FIFA has seemingly lifted the ban that it had imposed on the All India Football Federation (AIFF). The ban was levelled on AIFF, citing undue third-party influence after the Supreme Court of the country moved to introduce a committee to oversee the functioning of the AIFF.

The ban forced Indian-origin clubs to pull out of continental tournaments that fall under the umbrella of FIFA. This exacted a heavy toll on clubs like Sree Gokulam Kerala FC and ATK Mohun Bagan, who were slated to compete in the AFC Women's Club Championship and&nbsp;&nbsp;AFC Cup 2022 (Inter-Zone semifinals), respectively.

However, all these embargoes have since been repealed as FIFA moved to lift the ban, they conveyed the same to AIFF in a letter, which was subsequently shared by AIFF on social media shortly thereafter.

"The Bureau of the Council decided on 25 August 2022 to lift the suspension of the AIFF with immediate effect. As a consequence, the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022 scheduled to take place on 11-30 October 2022 can be held in India as planned.&nbsp;

"Finally, as foreseen in the decision of the Bureau of 14 August 2022, a further communication to the AIFF will follow shortly with respect to the next steps to be taken towards holding elections. Kindly take note that FIFA and the AFC will continue to monitor the situation and will support the AIFF in organising the elections in a timely manner," read the letter that FIFA sent to AIFF.

FIFA had imposed a ban on AIFF due to third-party interference last week and said it won't lift the ban until the board's administration is once again completely in charge of the national football body and the CoA is repealed. FIFA's key demand has now been met by the AIFF after CoA's dismissal by the Supreme Court.

As per a report in The Indian Express, the Supreme Court of India bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud passed an oral order on Monday demanding the CoA to hand over the baton back to the AIFF administration. “The day-to-day management of AIFF shall be looked after by the AIFF administration led by the acting secretary general exclusively," the SC bench said.

"As a consequence, the CoA will cease to be in charge," the bench added confirming CoA's ouster from AIFF. The SC had appointed a three-member&nbsp; Committee of Administrators to run the daily affairs at AIFF after dismissing former president Praful Patel, who illegally continued to hold his position despite completing three four-years terms.

Banerjee is survived by his daughter-in-law. Fondly known as 'Badru Da', he was suffering from Alzheimer's, Azotemia and high-blood pressure-related ailments.

"Very unfortunate that FIFA has banned Indian football and at the same time, I feel it's a very harsh decision of FIFA to ban Indian football," Bhutia was quoted as saying by PTI.

"But at the same time, I feel it's a great opportunity for us to get our system right. It's very important that all the stakeholders -- the federation, the state associations, to come together and get the system right and everybody work for the betterment of Indian football," the former India captain added.
