It is yet to be confirmed whether it was an explosive or something else, but the loud blast has heightened fears of further escalation between India and Pakistan, just a day after India undertook Operation Sindoor.
According to local broadcaster Geo TV and a Reuters report citing an anonymous witness, the blast occurred near Walton Road, triggering panic among residents and a swift response from emergency services.

<h2>Lahore airspace closed down</h2>
Pakistan's Geo TV reported that Thursday morning, a NOTAM was issued and key air routes in Lahore and Sialkot were closed to commercial flights until noon. However, the airspace was opened soon after.
Talking to Reuters, Ali Aftab, a resident of Lahore that is about 25 km (around 15 miles) from the Indian border, said he heard a "buzzing sound" followed by an explosion around 7 am local time (0200 GMT).
"Immediately I rushed to the rooftop and saw smoke rising... the area was cordoned off by security forces soon after the incident," he said.

"Our religion is different, our customs are different, our traditions are different, our thoughts are different, our ambitions are different, that's where the foundation of the two-nation theory was laid," said Munir.

Despite the 90-day freeze on foreign aid, US President Donald Trump has released $5.3 billion in funds for security and counter-narcotics, including $397 million in funding to "monitor" Pakistan&rsquo;s F-16 fleet, according to a Reuters report. The report points out that the funds are intended to sustain Pakistan&rsquo;s F-16s for counter-terrorism operations, with strict oversight to ensure they aren&rsquo;t used against India.&nbsp;
The report by the news agency says that the release was for a "US-backed program in nuclear-armed Pakistan that a congressional aide said monitored Islamabad's use of US-made F-16 fighter jets to ensure they are employed for counterterrorism operations and not against rival India".

India's Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has stated that New Delhi could have given more money to Pakistan than it is about to&nbsp;receive from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) if ties were better between the two bitter neighbours.&nbsp;

Singh was addressing an election rally in the Gurez assembly seat of Bandipora district in North Kashmir when he made the comment.&nbsp;

“Modi ji had, in 2014-15, announced a special package for the development of J&amp;K, which has now reached Rs 90,000 crore ($10.74 billion). The amount is much bigger than what Pakistan was seeking from the IMF (as a bailout package),” Singh said.

“My Pakistani friends, why have strained relations, we are neighbours. If we had good relations, we would have given you more money than the IMF,” he added.

Singh said Pakistan was using the financial aid money to fund terrorism which had stalled its economic progress.&nbsp;

“It seeks money from other countries to run a terrorism factory on its soil,” said Singh.&nbsp;

Notably, the IMF board last week approved a&nbsp;$7 billion Extended Fund Facility (EFF) for cash-strapped Pakistan to boost its struggling economy.&nbsp;The $7 billion bailout package was approved after Pakistan promised to overhaul its agriculture income tax, transfer some fiscal responsibilities to provinces and take the most expensive loan in the nation's history.&nbsp;

<h2>Rajnath tells PoK residents to join India&nbsp;</h2>

Earlier this month, Singh had urged residents of&nbsp;Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) to join India, adding that the region would soon become a part of India.&nbsp;&nbsp;

“Once our government is formed in Jammu and Kashmir, we will carry out development that will make the people of Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) want to become part of India,” said Singh.

"Support the BJP to form the next government in J&amp;K so that we can facilitate massive development in the region. There will be so much development that the people in PoK on seeing this should say that we do not want to live with Pakistan and instead will go to India," he added.

Adding, "It is a matter of great irony that the country where the most recent attack and demolition of a Hindu temple took place in a series of such attacks" and "where the rights of minorities are being emasculated is one of the co-sponsors of the resolution under the agenda item “Culture of Peace.”

December 2020 saw demolishing of a historic Hindu temple Karak in the country's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The temple has been the target of attack in the past as well. It was demolished in 1997 and later reconstructed again in 2015.&nbsp;

The statement elaborated, "Pakistan with explicit support and connivance with the law enforcement agencies which, stood as mute spectators while the historic temple was being razed.".

It is not for the first time India had spoken about Pakistan's track record on the deteriorating situation of minorities. In fact, New Delhi has taken up several times abduction of Hindu, Sikh, Christian girls in the country by summoning Pakistani diplomats.

An Army personnel was killed and two others were injured when Pakistani troops opened fire and shelled areas along the Line of Control in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, news agency ANI stated quoting officials on Sunday.

Pakistan plans to amend the Army Act, section 133 which <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/pakistan-violated-vienna-convention-in-jadhav-case-icj-tells-un-259007">will give Kulbhushan Jhadav</a> right to appeal in a civilian court and opening the door for India to provide legal aid to him.

Section 133 of the Pakistani Army Act provides provision for the appeal but only in a "Court of Appeals consisting of the Chief of the Army Staff..." or the court of appeals consisting of Brigadier or Major General but can't appeal in a civilian court.

Through the amendment, the verdicts of military courts would now be challenged in a civilian court within a timeframe of six months. In the case of Kulbhushan Jadhav, his six months appeal time would start from the day of International Court of Justice(ICJ) judgement and not his initial sentence that was on April, 10, 2017.

There hasn't been any reaction from India since the amendment is still to take place, but it could be considered a positive development in the case given that Pakistan still has to fully implement the ICJ order.&nbsp;

The amendment, if passed, will be a major reform process which can make the Pakistan military court more transparent because the amendment opens the gate for others in Pakistan to appeal against the military court orders and judgements.

On April, 26, 2017, the High Commission of India in Islamabad had transmitted to Pakistan, on behalf Jadhav’s mother, an “appeal” under Section 133 (B) and a petition to Pakistani government under Section 131 of the Pakistan Army Act. India received no information on the status of the appeal.

Earlier this year, New Delhi had achieved a major diplomatic victory at the ICJ with the world court calling Pakstan to "provide Indian consular officers access to him in accordance with Article 36 of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations."

On September 2, India got its first consular access for Kulbhushan Jhadav in three years with Indian deputy high commissioner (DHC) Gaurav Ahluwalia in Islamabad meeting Jadhav him for&nbsp;two hours.&nbsp;

Pakistan set to amend Army Act for Kulbhushan Jadhav to appeal

The Indian side will be led by joint secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, SCL Das and comprise officials of the Ministry of External Affairs and MHA while the Pakistani side will be led by Director General South Asia and SAARC from Pakistan Foreign Ministery Dr Muhammad Faisal.&nbsp;

This meet is expected to be followed by fifth round of India-Pakistan technical talks on the project.

The work is on in full swing on both Pakistan and Indian side of the Kartarpur corridor with officials monitoring daily progress.

In November 2018, India, Pakistan announced the establishment of a direct border-crossing linking Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur, the final resting place of Sikh faith founder Guru Nanak, to Dera Baba Nanak in Punjab's Gurdaspur district.

Kartarpur is located in Pakistan's Narowal district across the Ravi river, about four km from Dera Baba Nanak.

US President Donald Trump in response to a question said on Thursday, "It’s really up to Prime Minister Modi (to accept the offer of mediation). I think they are fantastic people - Khan and Modi - I mean. I would imagine they could get along very well, but if they wanted somebody to intervene, to help them. And I spoke with Pakistan about that and I spoke frankly in India about it."

Adding, "If I can, if they wanted me to, I would certainly intervene."

This was dismissed by the Indian side with Jaishankar speaking in the Parliament saying all bilateral issues between India and Pakistan are governed by Shimla and Lahore agreements under which no third party mediation will be allowed.&nbsp;

Conveyed to America in 'clear terms' that discussion on Kashmir only with Pakistan: S Jaishankar

The deceased jawan was identified as 34-year-old Naik Krishan Lal, a resident of Ghagriya village in Akhnoor.&nbsp;

Two Pakistani soldiers were also killed in retaliatory action by the Indian Army.

On Sunday, three civilians including a 10-day-old baby sustained injuries in the ceasefire violation by Pakistan. The baby later succumbed to the injuries.

This is the fourth consecutive day of firing and shelling by the Pakistan Army targeting civilian areas along the LoC.

Pakistan has habitually kept violating a ceasefire along the Line of Control in the disputed region of Jammu &amp; Kashmir, Tensions have been running high between India and Pakistan after a young suicide bomber in Kashmir brought India and Pakistan into a war resembling situation by killing more than 40 Indian troops of India armed forces, CRPF.

People are living along the line of control in India and Pakistan in a state of war zone losing their loved ones, but the trade continues as usual across the border.

Pawan Anand, president of Cross border traders association, Chakan da bagh says that this barter trade provides liberation from the Suffocation of continuous tension of two countries along the borders.

“Our barter trade is heavily dependent on the trust factor. We neither meet traders of Pakistan nor can check the quality of the imported items until they reach to us. But even the Pakistani merchants have faith upon us,” says Mr Anand, he is dependent on WhatsApp conversations with his Pakistani counterparts for a million rupees deal.

Trade goods were exchanged as usual between both sides during all scheduled days during the week. In violation of the ceasefire agreement with India, Pakistani forces have been shelling areas along the LoC in Rajouri and Poonch districts for eight consecutive days.

The current violence marks the most serious escalation of the long-simmering conflict since 1999.

“People complain why we still trade with Pakistanis in these decisive circumstances? But, they are the privileged ones, who don’t live in the last village near LoC. We live here, we know how cross border trade is helping to feed thousands of families on both sides of the border,” Anand says, answering to objections on their trade with Pakistan.

“We are not the ones who escalate tensions. We are citizens who need protection and peace, not war,” adds Anand.

After the attack on February 14, at least 140 trucks crossed the LoC from this side, while as 70 trucks came from the other side carrying various items. The trade was temporarily halted in Poonch for two days due to curfew in Jammu district because of which transport was not plying. The cross LoC trade is scheduled for four days a week from Tuesday to Friday, while as travel is scheduled once every week.&nbsp;

Pakistan doesn’t accept to go in for banking system of the trade by citing the reason that if the trade takes place on a cash basis in India currency then it would affirm that Kashmir is no more a disputed territory and a part of India.

Traders have been arranging meetings in other parts of the world each quarter to secure a smooth running, as the governments haven’t allowed their meetings in Pakistan or India.&nbsp;
