Iranian President Hassan Rouhani arrives in Hyderabad on three-day India visit

Iranian President <a href="http://www.wionews.com/world/hasan-rouhani-irans-diplomatic-sheikh-32962">Hasan Rouhani</a> begins his three-day visit to India from today. He will arrive at Hyderabad&#39;s Begumpet airport on Thursday evening and during his visit, the two countries will discuss regional and international issues of mutual interest.

<a href="http://www.wionews.com/videos/wion-gravitas-rouhani-3rd-iran-leader-to-visit-india-in-15-years-8357">Rouhani&#39;s visit</a>, his first after becoming Iran&#39;s President in 2013, is significant in many ways.

Rouhani is persona non grata in some countries such as the United States and Israel, which views a nuclear Iran as an existential threat. US President Donald Trump has already threatened to pull out of the Iran nuclear deal and impose more sanctions against Tehran.

In such a scenario, Prime Minister Narendra Modi - who has invested a great deal of time and energy to strengthen ties with both the US and Israel - has signalled his intent to engage Iran. In doing so, Modi has showcased Indian foreign policy&#39;s dexterity, maturity and nimbleness.

The visit assumes significance in a regional context too.

Israel and Iran have been, and are, at loggerheads. Their proxy war manifested itself most recently in Syria, after Israel shot down an alleged Iranian drone that entered Israeli airspace and Syrian forces retaliated by bringing down an Israeli military aircraft.

President Bashar al-Assad of Syria enjoys the support of Iran and Russia. But, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Iran, coupled with its influence in Lebanon and Syria, poses an existential threat to the state of Israel.

The messaging is clear: India will independently pursue ties with most countries of consequence in the Arab world and the Persian Gulf.

In recent months, India has straddled competing narratives or interests in West Asia with finesse, be it the Israel-Palestine conundrum, or the Saudi Arabia-Iran rivalry for regional supremacy.

If Modi became the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Israel in July last year, he also made it a point to visit Palestine on his most recent West Asia swing.

He visited the Sunni Saudi Arabia and the Shi&#39;ite Iran in 2016, and travelled to the United Arab Emirates and Qatar too. He has also hosted a number of West Asian leaders in New Delhi. Later this month, King Abdullah of Jordan is expected to visit India.

Rouhani will land at the Begumpet Airport around 4pm on Thursday where Union Minister of State for Power R K Singh will welcome him.

During his two-day visit to the city, the Iranian president will be accompanied by 21 delegates.

Rouhani will address a congregation at the historic Mecca Masjid in Hyderabad after offering Friday prayers, sources said, adding that religious scholars from different schools of thought will also participate in the session. He will also interact with the Iranians settled in Hyderabad.

Rouhani is scheduled to visit the Salar Jung Museum on Friday.

This is the second time Rouhani will be visiting Hyderabad, but it is his first visit after assuming charge as the president. He will leave for New Delhi tomorrow.

Why Iranian President Hasan Rouhani's visit to India is significant

As is the case every year, the Bajrang Dal has once again approached the pubs and restaurants in Hyderabad, asking them to boycott Valentine&#39;s Day celebrations on February 14.

They even visited colleges in the city asking them not to take part in the celebration, which is apparently destroying the Indian tradition and culture.

Subhash Chander, Bajrangdal, State Co-Convener, told ANI, &quot;Our country is rich in culture and due to Valentine&#39;s Day, our youth are getting spoiled. We visited various pubs and colleges and asked them to not to be a part of this day.&quot;

Another member Mahesh Kumar said that they will counsel the students if they are caught celebrating the day.

Former Indian captain&nbsp;Mohd Azharuddin lashed out at the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) after he was barred from attending the Special General Meeting.

The meeting was held at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

The Special General Meeting which was meant to adopt the recommendations of the Justice Lodha Committee point by point started in the morning, but Azhar was allegedly made to stand outside for more than an hour.

The current president of HCA, G. Vivekanand decided to bar Azhar from the meeting. Later, on&nbsp;Congress leader, V. Hanumantha Rao started&nbsp;a protest on the stage and recalled the Azhar&#39;s achievements.&nbsp;

However, after some time he was allowed to enter the venue.

Azhar said, &quot;They made me wait outside for an hour. It was very embarrassing. I am a player from Hyderabad and had been the Indian team captain for ten years. These people, who are running the organisation know nothing about cricket. They had never held a bat and a ball in their life.&quot;

But soon as the meeting concluded, the right-hand batsman expressed his dissatisfaction over the current state of affairs in HCA.

He raised corruption allegations against the HCA members and demanded that the association needs to be dissolved.

&quot;Players are lamenting that they have to pay lakhs of money to play matches. You cannot run an organisation on &#39;whims and fancies&#39;. This is not somebody&#39;s home; this is an organisation, which is running from 1932,&quot; Azhar said.

He also wanted other members to support his membership in the organisation to boost budding cricketers, who are denied opportunities because of the corrupt officials.

&quot;If you all support my membership, I promise I will solve your problems,&quot; the 54-year-old added.

Azhar has captained India in 47 tests during the 1990s. His international playing career came to a controversial end when he was implicated in the infamous match-fixing scandal in 2000 and subsequently banned by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for life.&nbsp;

In 2012, the Andhra Pradesh High Court lifted the ban on him.

Long ago, Hollywood had introduced us to &quot;Robocop&#39;&#39;. Now, a desi version of Robocop is getting ready. It&#39;s not a film but a real robot being &quot;Made in India&quot;&nbsp;and which is being developed as &quot;cop&quot;&nbsp;to do policing.
&nbsp;
In Hyderabad, a 28-year-old robotics engineer has developed a beta version ( prototype ) of the robot which can do policing.

Named &quot;smart policing robot,&#39;&#39; this prototype which is in an advanced stage&nbsp;of completion is being programmed to do policing jobs like identifying suspects, interact&nbsp;with people, take complaints among a host of other features.
&nbsp;
&quot;In Dubai, I had seen robots which are doing the job of interacting with people at public places. I got an idea why not go a step ahead and incorporate host of security and policing related features and more importantly make them in India,&#39;&#39; says PSV Kisshhan, founder and CEO of H-Bots, a Hyderabad-based startup.
&nbsp;
Six months back, Kisshhan and his team of 24 people all of whom are in the age group of 25 years started working on &quot;smart policing robot&#39;&#39;.

&quot;The current beta version is made of nylon and weighs around 25 kgs but the final product will be made of plastic and will be weighing around 50-60 kgs,&#39;&#39; discloses Kisshhan.&nbsp;
&nbsp;
At around five feet, the robot is equipped with three cameras- two for surveillance and one for taking complaints. The display panel has features like recording complaints. It has face and gesture recognition, it can identify suspects, detect metals, monitor temperatures and also it is being designed to control thefts.
&nbsp;
&quot;We have developed our own software based on Java and python applications. Our Robot can move 360 degrees, has a battery life of nearly nine hours,&#39;&#39; discloses Kisshhan.
&nbsp;
By July this year, the first &quot;smart policing robot&#39;&#39; is expected to roll out after all the final tests.

H-Bots is planning to roll out at least 70 robots per year and sees demand not only in India but also in other countries for their product.

&quot;We will price our robots from Rs 5&nbsp;lakhs to Rs 20 lakhs depending on the model and features. There will be two variants - indoor and outdoor. Outdoor will also be waterproof and will have a solar option.&#39;&#39;
&nbsp;
Kisshhan also informs that his place is open for all those enthusiasts who look for hardware and place to innovate products of their own. By 2020, Kisshhan estimates that India will be the largest robotic hub.

The Hyderabad Metro Rail opened for public on Wednesday with the passengers describing their first-time travel by it as a &quot;convenient, comfortable and awesome experience&rdquo;.

The metro rail commenced its operations between Miyapur and Nagole, having a total distance of 30 km&nbsp;and 24 stations, the concessionaire, L&amp;T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Ltd, said in a statement.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday inaugurated the first phase of the 72-km elevated Hyderabad Metro Rail project at the Miyapur station.

After launching the 30-km stretch between Miyapur and Nagole, Modi took a ride on the train on its inaugural run.

The trains would run from 6am to 10pm initially which would be rescheduled to 5:30am to 11pm depending on the traffic and demand, Telangana&#39;s Information Technology Minister K T Rama Rao earlier said.

A mobile app named &#39;T Savari&#39; for metro passengers was launched by Modi, who was also given a power-point presentation on the project at Miyapur station.

The L&amp;T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Ltd has fixed a minimum of Rs 10 for a distance of up to two kilometres and the maximum fare is Rs 60 for a distance of more than 26 kms.

An elderly couple, who took the ride today, said they were very excited to travel in the metro for the first time and hoped that the cleanliness will be maintained at the stations with cooperation from public.

A woman software professional said, &quot;It is amazing. It will help us in avoiding the traffic snarls and in saving travel time. It is very a convenient mode of transport and a comfortable ride.&quot;

A city-based businessman said it normally took him 45 minutes to travel between Miyapur and Ameerpet by other modes of transport, but now with metro he reached his destination in barely 20 minutes. &quot;It&#39;s an awesome experience,&quot; he said.

The passengers also congratulated the Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd (HMRL), and the Telangana and Central governments for providing them with them metro rail.

&quot;Every project has its own share of challenges and Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited has had its fair share, but despite all those we have built a world-class, consumer- friendly metro service that will be a benchmark for other metro rails in the country,&quot; L&amp;T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Ltd&#39;s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Shivanand Nimbargi said.

&quot;This is the biggest public private partnership (PPP) in the world and we are proud to be a part of such an initiative,&quot; he said.

The Hyderabad Metro Rail project is the first &#39;transit oriented development&#39; (TOD) project that will exploit the real estate and earn revenue by leasing out commercial and office spaces inside and outside the metro stations across the city, an official statement said.

The rapid transit project has been planned with two components - stations along the elevated metro rail system and TOD branded &#39;Hyderabad Next&#39;.

Depending on the city&#39;s appetite, &#39;Hyderabad Next&#39; will be developed with various assets like office and retail spaces, hospitality, healthcare, and mixed use facilities, the statement said.

As many as 546 security personnel from private security service agencies will man the metro stations on the Miyapur-Nagole stretch, and they will be working under three uniformed police officials per station in each shift, it added.&nbsp;

Hamish Finlayson, 13, is the youngest entrepreneur who will be showcasing his gaming and awareness apps at the high-profile Global Entrepreneurship Summit here.

The Australia-based entrepreneur, who is studying in 7th grade, has so far developed five apps including the one to save turtles, and is currently working on the sixth one for increasing awareness about traffic rules.

&quot;I am super excited to be in India,&quot; Finlayson said, adding that though his first love is technology and developing apps, he also focuses on his studies.

&quot;Only after finishing my school homework, I work on my apps. I work only in my spare time,&quot; he added.

Graeme Finlayson, father of Hamish, said that it all started when he was just eight years old and in the 3rd grade.

After contesting in a competition on apps, Hamish got interested and the journey started from there, his father said. The apps developed by him are available on Apple as well as Google Play stores.

&quot;The sixth app he is developing is about teaching people about road safety,&quot; Graeme said.

With customers in 54 countries, Hamish wants to scale his technology to solve big problems being faced by the people across the world, the father added.

He further said that at GES 2017, Hamish wants to showcase the light of sea turtles and raise awareness about the impact of autism on society.

US President Donald Trump`s daughter Ivanka Trump is set to get a&nbsp;royal treatment at Taj Falaknuma, the palace hotel where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is hosting a dinner for her and other delegates of Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) on November 28.

A possible ride on the regal horse-drawn carriage from the main gate to the palace atop the hill, a rose petal shower, a gala dinner on the famed 101-seater dining table with mouth-watering delicacies on the menu and of course a guided tour to the grand palace await Ivanka.

While she will be staying at Westin Hotel near the GES venue in Hitec City, Nizam`s suite, the costliest among all suites at Falaknuma, has been booked for her in case she wants to stay for a couple of hours, sources told IANS.

Nizam`s suite, which used to be the private suite of the ruler of Hyderabad State, costs a whopping Rs5 lakh to Rs8 lakh a night, depending on the season.

Ivanka will join the select list of VVIP guests to visit Falaknuma, arguably the most beautiful among over a dozen palaces in the city of pearls.

While Czar Nicholas II (when the heir to the Russian throne), King George V and Queen Mary and royalty from different parts of the world visited Falaknuma as the guests of Nizam, Ivanka will be the guest of the Indian government.

The advisor to White House is also the first high-profile foreign dignitary visiting the palace after it was converted into a star hotel a decade ago.

It`s still not clear if Ivanka will take a buggy (horse-drawn carriage) of Nizam era to reach the palace from the main gate.

For all the guests, vehicles are allowed only up to the main gate and from there are ferried either by horse-drawn carriages or battery-operated cars. Sources said exception, however, could be made for VVIPs on security grounds.

On entering the palace and ascending the grand staircase, the guests are welcomed with a shower of rose petals. Elaborate arrangements have been made to accord to a memorable welcome to Ivanka.

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, some key members of US delegation, selected politicians and industrialists will join Ivanka and Modi on a 101-seater dining table, on which the Nizam used to dine with his guests.

The dinner for other delegates has been arranged in the gardens in the palace premises.

Interestingly, Narendra Modi will become the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Falaknuma. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India, was among its guests.

A palace historian may take Ivanka, Modi, and others for a guided tour of the palace aptly named `Falaknuma` or mirror of heavens.

It was Nawab Vaqar-ul-Umra, the Nizam`s prime minister, who built the palace in 1893. Impressed by its magnificence, sixth Nizam Mir Mahboob Ali Khan bought it for himself and stayed there till 1911.

Built over 32 acres, the scorpion-shaped, all-marble palace stands tall in its splendour and majesty atop a hill, at 2,000 ft above sea level and overlooks the old city of Hyderabad.

A majestic blend of Italian and Tudor architecture, it has 60 lavish rooms and halls including Durbar Hall, embellished with intricately carved wooden ceilings, parquet flooring, regal walnut wood furniture and handcrafted mirrors.

The interiors are a splendid interplay of Venetian chandeliers and intricate frescos and have charming outdoor terraces, and a treasure of rare artefacts, including paintings, statues, furniture, manuscripts, and books.

US President Donald Trump`s daughter Ivanka Trump is set to get a royal treatment at Taj Falaknuma, the palace hotel where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is hosting a dinner for her and other delegates of Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) on November 28. Hyderabad medical institute develops app to eliminate long queues in hospitals

Paceman Jaydev Unadkat revelled in a five-wicket haul that included a hat-trick as Rising Pune Supergiant eked out a 12-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad to jump to the second spot in IPL, here today.

Defending a modest 148, the Pune outfit came up with a superb bowling performance with Unadkat (5/30) and Ben Stokes (3/30) doing the maximum damage, especially in the final overs to restrict Hyderabad to 136 for nine in 20 overs.

Unadkat took a hat-trick in the final over of the match when Hyderabad needed 13 runs, to shut the door on the hosts.

He sent back Bipul Sharma, Rashid Khan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the second, third and fourth deliveries of the 20th over respectively. It was third hat-trick of the season.

At one stage, defending champions were cruising along comfortably when veteran Yuvraj Singh (47) and skipper David Warner (40) were at the crease.

The duo put on 54 runs together for the third wicket before Warner departed for 40 which was studded with four hits to the fence and a six.

Yuvraj continued to play his shots but failed to take the team all the way home, falling for 43-ball 47 that included four boundaries and two sixes, with the scorecard reading 117 for five.

After Yuvraj&#39;s departure, 32 more runs needs for victory and as many as five wickets in hand, but no lower-order batsmen seem to show any resistance, even as Unadkat took three successive wickets in the final over to wrap up the match in Pune&#39;s favour.

Earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad dished out a tidy bowling performance, led by Siddarth Kaul, to restrict Rising Pune Supergiant to a modest 148 for eight.

The Hyderabad bowlers dominated the proceedings from the word go after inviting the Pune outfit to take first strike with Kaul returning impressive figures of four for 29 from his four overs, while Rashid Khan (1/18) and Bipul Sharma (1/39) took a wicket apiece.

The Supergiant found the going tough and lost both their openers -- Ajinkya Rahane (22) and Rahul Tripathi (1) -- early and were struggling at 39 for two in the seventh over.

Skipper Steve Smith (34) and Ben Stokes (39) though steadied the rocking boat, putting on 60 runs together for the third wicket, they failed to up the ante.

While Stokes tried to accelerate the innings, Smith just could not get going as he took 39 balls for his 34, which neither had a boundary nor a six.

Stokes top-scored with a 25-ball 39 that included one four and three sixes.

In the end, Mahendra Singh Dhoni tried to increase the tempo in the final few overs before he got out for a well-made 31 off 21 balls, which was studded with two fours and as many sixes.

However, the batsmen at the other end could not provide adequate support to the former India skipper with the home team bowlers managing to tightened the noose further.

The last two overs saw three Pune batsmen getting out that included the prized wicket of Dhoni.

India plans to urgently immunise around 300,000 children against the crippling polio virus after a strain of the highly contagious disease was detected in sewage in the southern Indian city of Hyderabad, the ministry of health said two days back.

India was declared polio free by the World Health Organization (WHO) in March 2014 after an almost two-decade long, multi-million dollar effort -- lauded as one of the country&#39;s biggest public health achievements in recent times.

A health ministry statement confirmed media reports that a strain of the virus was discovered in a sewage sample taken near Hyderabad&#39;s Secunderabad railway station, but said that no children in area were found to be affected.

&quot;India continues to be polio free as the country has eradicated wild polio virus and the last case was seen on 13th January, 2011, and it is more than five years that no wild polio virus has been detected,&quot; the health ministry said.

The statement said a recent survey of the area found 94 per cent of children had received at least three doses of the oral polio vaccine and therefore transmission was unlikely.

However &quot;as a precautionary measure&quot; a special immunisation drive would be held from June 20 in the high-risk districts of Hyderabad and Rangareddy, targeting around 300,000 children between the ages of six weeks and three years, it said.

Vaccination booths will be set up, the ministry said, and parents encouraged to get their children injected with the Inactivated Polio Vaccine which will provide additional protection against all types of polio.

Afghanistan and Pakistan are the only countries left in the world where the virus remains endemic.

The polio virus attacks the nervous system and can cause irreversible paralysis within hours of infection. It often spreads in areas with poor sanitation, and children under five are the most vulnerable.

India - where more than 50,000 children were once afflicted with the virus every year - was considered one of the toughest places in the world to eradicate polio.

Millions of health workers were involved in India&#39;s mammoth drive to immunise children by giving them polio drops. They targeted migrant families at bus stations, on trains and at festivals. Some used motorcycles or trekked to reach villages.

As a result, over 170 million children are now immunised every year, with millions more targeted in house-to-house visits in a drive costing more than $3 billion since 1995.

The health ministry said this is not the first time a strain of the virus has been detected in sewage samples, noting that 14 samples collected between January 2015 and May 2016 tested positive for a strain of the polio virus.

It said vaccination campaigns were initiated and that no children had been affected.

The ministry said India remained vigilant to outbreaks of polio and maintained &quot;a highly sensitive surveillance system&quot;.

A health ministry statement confirmed media reports that a strain of the virus was discovered in a sewage sample taken near Hyderabad's Secunderabad railway station, but said that no children in area were found to be affected. "India continues to be polio free as the country has eradicated wild polio virus and the last case was seen on 13th January, 2011, and it is more than five years that no wild polio virus has been detected," the health ministry said. The statement said a recent survey of the area found 94 per cent of children had received at least three doses of the oral polio vaccine and therefore transmission was unlikely. However "as a precautionary measure" a special immunisation drive would be held from June 20 in the high-risk districts of Hyderabad and Rangareddy, targeting around 300,000 children between the ages of six weeks and three years, it said. Millions of health workers were involved in India's mammoth drive to immunise children by giving them polio drops. The ministry said India remained vigilant to outbreaks of polio and maintained "a highly sensitive surveillance system".
