<p>American actor and singer Mellisa Benoist is receiving massive support after her confession of past domestic abuse. Benoist's husband and American actor Chris Wood has also come in the support which has now extended to an online hashtag, #IStandWIthMelissa.<br />

He also has made this a challenge and asked his online followers, "How do YOU show love?"Earlier this week, Benoist confessed publicly that she is a domestic abuse survivor. She did not name her abuser, but Wood is her second husband of just a few months, whom she wed in September, reported a magazine.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In an Instagram video, she said, "I am a survivor of domestic violence or IPV,&nbsp;which is something I never in my life expected I would say, let alone be broadcasting into the ether."She explained her trauma of the domestic violence, "The stark truth is I learned what it felt like to be pinned down and slapped repeatedly, punched so hard the wind was knocked out of me, dragged by my hair across pavement, head-butted, pinched until my skin broke, shoved into a wall so hard the drywall broke, choked, I learned to lock myself in rooms but quickly stopped because the door was inevitably broken down.<br />
<br />
I learned to not value any of my property-replaceable and irreplaceable. I learned not to value myself."The 31-year-old actor finally took action when she suffered major injuries due to her partner threw an iPhone at her face. She continued," The impact tore my iris, nearly ruptured my eyeball, lacerated my skin and broke my nose, my left eye swelled shut. I had a fat lip ... Something inside of me broke, this was too far.<br />
<br />
"Benoist finally decided to leave the relationship, after a discussion with a friend, she said in the video that Leaving such a relationship was not a walk in the park. It is not an event, it's a process. She felt complicated feelings of guilt for leaving and for hurting someone she had protected for so long, and yes, a&nbsp;"mournful feeling of leaving something familiar," she said.<br />
<br />
She concluded, "But luckily, the people I let in, the more I was bolstered, I never lost the sense of clarity that kept telling me, 'You do not deserve this'."</p>

But none have confronted the theme more brutally and personally than 'Waves,' the indie coming-of-age teen drama being tipped as an Oscars dark horse.<br />

The film, portraying a black middle-class family in Miami which implodes following a tragedy, has been hailed as "a knockout" by the New York Times and an "intimate epic" by The Hollywood Reporter.<br />
<br />
Director Trey Edward Shults modelled the film's strict patriarch on his own stepfather, whose overzealous coaching results in a hideous high-school wrestling injury -- a trauma which is dramatized in the movie, and leads to devastating consequences.<br />
"It is a cautionary tale of the traditional idea of masculinity," Shults, 31, told AFP.<br />
<br />
"We don't have to build these tough exteriors -- we can be vulnerable, we can communicate."<br />
<br />
Described as a 'Dazed and Confused' for the Instagram generation, the film shows how the expectation that teenage boys be strong, silent and stoic endures in American culture.</p>

"It's like an all-consuming dread that hits you at, like, the pit of your stomach, reliving the most traumatic thing... It was cathartic. But it was hard."<br />

<p>Two cinema chains have pulled a hard-hitting drama about gangland rivalry from its screens after youths, some armed with machetes, fought at a screening in central England.</p>

<p>Gangs of youths clashed at the Star City cinema complex in Birmingham on Saturday night. Six teenagers were arrested and seven police officers were injured trying to stop the violence.</p>

<p>Vue, which runs Star City, responded by pulling the film from its 91 venues. Showcase Cinemas followed suit on Monday, withdrawing the film from 21 outlets across Britain.</p>

<p>"Due to the recent incidents tied to screenings of the film 'Blue Story', after careful consideration with the film's distributor, Showcase Cinemas has immediately removed the film from our all of our participating cinemas," it added.</p>

<p>Blue Story's writer and director, Andrew Onwubolu, who is also known as 'Rapman', condemned the violence.</p>

<p>"It's truly unfortunate that a small group of people can ruin things for everybody. Bluestory is a film about love not violence," he wrote on Instagram.</p>

<p>The film focuses on two friends who find themselves on opposite sides of a London gang turf war.</p>

<p>Paramount Pictures, which produced the film in partnership with BBC Films, said it was "saddened to see the events that unfolded at Star City".</p>

<p>The film was developed from a YouTube mini-series and follows the story of a schoolboy in south-east London.</p>
