Texas Department of Public Safety South Regional Director Victor Escalon was quoted as saying by media that the crash involved "a military helicopter on federal orders working with Border Patrol."

The CH-53E is the largest helicopter in the US military and is a heavy-lift aircraft which is typically used to move troops and equipment. It has the capacity to carry as much as 16 tons of cargo inside and up to 55 troops.&nbsp;

The helicopter, which was designed to fly in harsh conditions, went missing amid historic storm in California, which saw heavy snow and a record amount of rain on Wednesday night.&nbsp;

Pinera was perhaps best known abroad for his role overseeing the spectacular rescue in 2010 of 33 miners who were trapped underneath the Atacama desert. The event became a global media sensation and was the subject of a 2014 movie, "The 33."

In Chile, he was known as a successful businessman whose first term was boosted by rapid economic growth but who was often seen as out-of-touch with the country's fast-changing society.

Both his presidencies were marred by frequent protests - of students demanding education reform in the first term, and of wider and often violent protests against inequality in his second term that ended with the government promising to draft a new constitution.

After leaving the presidency, Pinera remained active in politics, speaking out on issues like the attempt to draft a new constitution - which ultimately failed - and backing conservative politicians in the region, including Argentine President Javier Milei.

Former Argentine President Mauricio Macri expressed his sadness at the news of Pinera's death. "He was a good person, committed like no one else to Chile and to the values of freedom and democracy in Latin America," he said.

Two people were killed and as many injured after a fire rescue helicopter crashed into an apartment building in Pompano Beach, Florida, on Monday morning (Aug 28).

Three people were on board the helicopter, of which one person died, while another person died on the ground. It was a woman.

The dead woman’s name was not released as her family was being notified.

The deceased on board the helicopter has been identified as Broward Sheriff's Office Captain Terryson Jackson (50), National Transportation Safety Board said.

He served the organisation for 19 years.

The crash was reported just after 8.45 am (local time) in the area of North Dixie Highway and Atlantic Boulevard.

According to reports, the helicopter was headed to a scene in North Lauderdale at the time of the crash.

Russia: Six killed, nine injured in helicopter crash in Siberia

The five Mexican nationals killed in a helicopter crash in eastern Nepal near Mount Everest on Tuesday had visited India before touring the Himalayan nation for sightseeing.

The Manang Air helicopter 9N-AMV took off from Surke Airport in Solukhumbu district at 10:04 am for Kathmandu on Tuesday and suddenly lost contact at an altitude above 12,000 feet at 10.13 am (local time).

The helicopter crashed in the Lamjura area of Likhupike Rural Municipality in the remote mountainous Solukhumbu district.

The dead pilot has been identified as Captain CB Gurung, a Nepali national. The five passengers killed in the crash — all of them Mexican nationals — were identified as Fernando Sifuentes (95), Abril Sifuentes Gonzalez (72), Luz Gonzalez Olacio (65), Maria Jose Sifuentes (52) and Ismael Rincon (98).

The family had also visited India as one of the victims, Abril Sifuentes Gonzalez, on July 5 posted a photo of herself on a social media platform in front of the Taj Mahal days before the accident.

Mexico's Ambassador to India Federico Salas said that the victims were family members originally from Nuevo Leon, according to Mexican News Daily.

Mexican family killed in chopper crash visited India before touring Nepal

All six people have been killed in a helicopter crash in Nepal. The Nepal Aviation authorities have confirmed the same that a missing tourist helicopter had crashed soon after takeoff near Mount Everest. The US Army has temporarily grounded all pilots who are not involved in critical missions in the wake of two recent helicopter crashes that left 12 soldiers dead.

The order came from Army Chief of Staff James McConville asking the aviators to remain grounded “until they complete the required training,” the army said in a statement, according to CNN.

“The safety of our aviators is our top priority, and this stand down is an important step to make certain we are doing everything possible to prevent accidents and protect our personnel,” McConville said in a statement.

Lieutenant-Colonel Terence Kelley, a US Army spokesperson, said the suspension of air operations will take place with immediate effect on Friday and shall remain until the pilots undergo required safety and training protocols. &nbsp;

Army pilots, at McConville’s direction, “will focus on safety and training protocols to ensure our pilots and crews have the knowledge, training and awareness to safely complete their assigned mission,” the statement added.

For active-duty units, the training is to take place between May 1 and 5. Army National Guard and Reserve units will have until May 31 to complete the training.

The new measures come days after two AH-64 Apache helicopters collided mid-air near Fort Wainwright, Alaska, killing&nbsp;three soldiers and wounding another.

Two of the soldiers died at the scene and the third died while being transported to a hospital, according to a release from the US Army’s 11th Airborne Division.

Earlier this year, in March, all nine troops on board were killed after two US Army helicopters crashed during a training mission in Kentucky. The incident involved the 101st Airborne Division and two HH60 Blackhawk helicopters crashed during a training mission.&nbsp;

The incident on Thursday is also said to be the second one involving military helicopters in Alaska this year. In February, two US Army soldiers were injured after an Apache helicopter rolled after taking off from Talkeetna, Alaska. At the time, it was one of the four aircraft travelling to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage from Fort Wainwright.

The agency informed it had already zeroed in on a suspect. Sean Reagan, special agent in charge said the agency collected surveillance video and witness information leading to a particular person of interest. "Sometime early this morning several helicopters operated by our company were vandalized by an individual unknown to us, and one aircraft was severely damaged. All our employees are safe, and we do not believe that anyone was injured in today’s events," read the statement. This incident is currently under investigation by several state and federal authorities. We are hopeful that the people responsible are located quickly. Videos of the helicopter crash showed a plume of black smoke rising hundreds of feet into the air on the side of the highway. Several emergency response vehicles gathered at the site of the crash.

The Madison County Sheriff's Office later confirmed that everyone on board the helicopter was killed in the crash, although the exact number has not been officially revealed yet. A Pentagon official confirmed to CBS News that the chopper that crashed today was a Black Hawk helicopter. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) also reported that it was a military helicopter.
