The Indian state of Gujarat is facing heavy rainfall which has led&nbsp;to the death of 28 people due to waterlogging and a flood-like situation.&nbsp;

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had previously issued a red alert for Thursday. It has also indicated that a cyclonic storm will develop off the coast of Gujarat on August 30, potentially leading to more heavy rainfall, currently lingering over Saurashtra and Kutch.

The IMD&nbsp;has also noted that the deep depression has remained stationary for more than six hours.&nbsp;

“To move W-SW and emerge into the northeast Arabian Sea by the morning of August 30. While moving W-SW over the northeast Arabian Sea away from the Indian coast, there is a possibility of its temporary and marginal intensification over the northeast Arabian Sea on August 30,” the weather department stated.&nbsp;

According to Rushikesh Patel, the health minister of Gujarat, over 5000 people have been&nbsp;rehabilitated. As per the State Relief Commissioner Alok Pandey, around 40,000 people have been evacuated from the flood-affected areas.&nbsp;

Six army contingents are helping out the 14&nbsp;teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and 22 teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) in rescue operations across&nbsp;the state. The NDRF has already rescued over 95 people in the last two days.&nbsp;

The department stated that the deep depression over Saurashtra and Kachchh was expected to bring more rainfall to the region as it moves towards the northeast Arabian Sea. According to scientists at the IMD, the depression is moving at a speed of 12 kmph, which was expected to cause extremely heavy to exceptionally heavy&nbsp;rainfall.

According to the statement, the heavy rainfall situation is likely to persist for the next three to four days.

Of all, Vadodara is the worst hit. It has witnessed massive rains for the last two days in a row, with some areas reportedly inundated by up to 12 feet.

The situation at the Vishwamitri River is the most concerning of all, as it swelled to 37 feet, way above the danger mark. The water level increased due to increased rainfall and the release of water from the Ajwa dam. The sudden release caused floods in several parts of the city, forcing the authorities to call&nbsp;the Indian Army for relief and rescue operations.

There, flooding in a basement coaching institute resulted in the loss of three young lives, highlighting the inherent risks associated with underground spaces and the difficulties involved in rescue operations. Experts in the field warn that a similar situation, compounded by an EV-related fire, could lead to catastrophic consequences.

Ahmedabad itself has not been immune to EV-related fire incidents. On June 25, a fire erupted in a BRTS bus that was being charged at the Vastral depot, subsequently spreading to two other buses. This incident followed closely on the heels of another tragedy in Surat on June 21, where an e-vehicle battery fire in the Limbayat area triggered a cylinder explosion, resulting in the death of a young woman.

These are not isolated incidents. Two years prior, Patan witnessed a fire that started while an e-vehicle was being charged in Hira Moti Society. Around the same time, another fire broke out at an e-vehicle charging station in Navrangpura multilevel parking, reducing several vehicles to ashes. In February 2022, social media was abuzz with footage of an e-vehicle catching fire while charging in Surat.

Despite a&nbsp;series of concerning incidents, the state government has maintained its stance on allowing the establishment of EV charging stations in parking areas, in line with the EV policy. Gujarat building collapse: Death toll rises to seven; FIR registered against owners, one person held

India's premier investigative agency, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), on Sunday (June 30) arrested the owner of a private school from the western state of Gujarat in connection with alleged malpractices in the NEET-UG exam. Dixit Patel was detained from his residence and the CBI was taking him to Ahmedabad for interrogation and seeking remand from the court.

Public prosecutor Rakesh Thakor earlier said the Gujarat government has handed over the case to CBI, prompting the federal agency to step up the investigation.

“As the case has been handed over to the CBI by the Gujarat government, a CBI team will produce him (Dixit Patel) before a designated court in Ahmedabad to seek his remand,” Thakor said.

Patel reportedly ran Jay Jalaram School in Godhra. It was one of the designated exam centres where the NEET-UG exam, now marred in allegations of rigging and question paper leak, was held on May 5. There are allegations that the school emerges as the fulcrum of all exam-related malpractices and fraud.

According to a report by The Hindu, the school principal demanded $12,000 (INR 10 lakh) from the students to help them clear the test. He is the sixth person to be arrested in the case.

Patel reportedly ran Jay Jalaram School in Godhra. It was one of the designated exam centres where the NEET-UG exam, now marred in allegations of rigging and question paper leak, was held on May 5. There are allegations that the school emerges as the fulcrum of all exam-related malpractices and fraud. According to a report by The Hindu, the school principal demanded $12,000 (INR 10 lakh) from the students to help them clear the test. He is the sixth person to be arrested in the case. In yet another alarming food incident, a resident of Jamnagar in India's Gujarat state found a fried frog inside a packet of wafers. Jasmin Patel, a resident of Pushkardham Society, said his nine-year-old niece bought the packet of Balaji Wafers from a nearby shop at 8 pm on Tuesday (Jun 18). After opening it and eating several pieces from the packet, they were left shocked upon finding a fried frog inside it.

They discarded the packet and went to the shop owner immediately to raise a complaint. After receiving an unsatisfactory response, he called up the customer care executive of Balaji Wafers. Patel subsequently informed the Jamnagar Municipal Corporation Food Branch and reported the food incident. The&nbsp;food branch officials later visited Patel's house and collected a sample from the packet. After confirming the presence of a frog inside the packet, they opened a probe and took samples from other packets of the same batch. An investigation is underway to determine how the contamination occurred.

We have come to the shop from where he purchased this wafer packet and seeing the packet, it looks like it was a frog inside the packet. We are taking samples of wafers of the same batch number from the distribution agency for laboratory test," D B Parmar, a food safety officer of JMC, was quoted as saying by the Times of India.

Balaji Wafers, meanwhile, has reiterated its commitment towards food hygiene and said it will fully cooperate with the authorities as the investigation continues.

Jay Sachdev, the marketing manager of Balaji Wafers, said it was "not possible" for someone to find a frog inside the packet.

"We maintain complete hygiene while producing the snacks in our factory and it's not possible to find frogs inside our snack packet. We allow visitation of our plants to the students every week. If JMC starts an investigation we will fully cooperate," he said.

Authorities disclosed that the facility had only one exit, exacerbating the chaos during the evacuation. The majority of the recovered bodies were charred beyond recognition. Due to this, DNA tests for the bodies had to be done for identification.

Legal action has been initiated against six partners of the game zone for operating without a license. The owner and two others have been arrested under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.&nbsp;

"Have you gone blind? Did you fall asleep?" questioned the court, slamming the civic body.&nbsp;

"Now we do not trust the local system and the state government," it added. As per media reports, the court said this after it was told the gaming centre in Rajkot had been built on unauthorised premises and that a hearing regarding fire safety had been on for four years.

On Saturday (May 25), a fire at a two-storey building housing the TRP Game Zone claimed the lives of 27 people, including nine children. The building, as per reports, was crowded with over 300 people, many of them children, due to the summer holidays and weekend rush.

Presenting newspaper clippings from various Indian publications, Advocate Amit Panchal informed the court that the TRP gaming zone in Rajkot had not obtained the necessary permissions, particularly from the fire department.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, the Gujarat government on Monday (May 27) suspended seven officials, including two police inspectors and civic staff, for negligence in the Rajkot game zone fire. The officials, as per a release from the government, have been held responsible "for their gross negligence in allowing this game zone to operate without necessary approvals."

As per ANI, those who have been suspended include Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) town planning department assistant engineer Jaideep Chaudhary, assistant town planner for RMC Gautam Joshi, Rajkot Roads and Buildings department’s deputy executive engineer HR Suma, Assistant Engineer Road and Building Department of RMC Parsbhai M Kothiya, Station Officer of Fire and Emergency Services of Rajkot Municipal Corporation, Rohit Vigora and police inspectors VR Patel and NI Rathod.
