The molester narrated the incident and said that he tried to sexually molest the girl on their way to school. When she resisted, he covered her mouth and nose to stop her from screaming, which made the girl unconscious, Zala said.

"The principal reached the school and parked his car with the girl's body inside. At 5 pm, he took out the body and dumped it behind the school building. He then planted her school bag and slippers in her classroom," Zala added.

Gujarat principal kills 6-year-old girl for resisting rape, dumps body in school compound

A major row has erupted in the Indian western state of Gujarat, the stronghold of the national ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), after it was revealed that school students have been enrolled as party members in a membership campaign.

The membership scandal has emerged in the Surendranagar district, and the state’s education department has now launched a probe into the matter. Earlier, the authorities issued a notice to the school management.

Worrying reports

Earlier this week, some media reports claimed, citing messages from the WhatsApp group of KU M R Gardi Vidyalaya school, that students from class 9 and above were made members of the BJP and given cards under a membership campaign.

The students were enrolled as BJP members through the phones of their parents. There are allegations that the students were then handed national flags and were photographed before being registered as party members.

Mukesh Nimavat, the school’s principal, defended himself saying the exercise was done to download a government educational app on the phones.

BJP smells conspiracy

Meanwhile, the BJP said it was an action to defame the party, citing rules that bar registration of members below the age of 18.

Surendranagar BJP district president Hitendrasinh Chauhan said, “Legal action will be taken against everyone behind this. I am investigating who is involved… As per primary investigation that we have conducted, it was revealed that no party member, taluka president, village sarpanch, or worker had gone to the school for the membership drive.”

BJP leader K C Patel also said that party membership can only be registered at the booth level and denied any involvement in the incident. He said the OTP for membership can’t be generated as technology prohibits it for minor users.

Surendranagar district education officer (DEO) A M Ojha said a class 2 official had been appointed to investigate the case.

“Through media report only we learnt that some school management or teaching faculty member had asked students to bring their mobile phones and a registration of a political party was conducted. Immediately, we took action and appointed a Class 2 official for an inquiry into the case. A notice has been issued to the school management,” said the Ojha.

India: Mysterious disease outbreak in Gujarat kills 13, sends alarm bells ringing

Twelve persons, including four children below the age of 12, have died in Lakhpat taluka in Gujarat's Kutch district days after the region was battered by heavy rains, with officials on Sunday (September 8, 2024) saying the cause of death primarily appears to be pneumonitis.

Some local district panchayat members, however, said doctors had not been able to accurately diagnose the fever, which was also causing difficulty in breathing.

Medical services in the taluka, which is located near the border with Pakistan, have been intensified with the deployment of 22 surveillance teams, and doctors and obtaining samples from residents to rule the possibility of H1N1, swine flu, Crimean-Congo fever, malaria and dengue, Kutch Collector Amit Arora said.

"Primarily, the deaths appear to have been caused by pneumonitis. It does not appear to be from contamination nor does it seem like an infectious disease. Twenty-two health department teams are working in the affected areas, including those brought on deputation from two community health centres and rapid response teams from Rajkot PDU medical college," he added.

Kutch district panchayat member Meenaba Jadeja, in a letter to Gujarat Congress chief Shaktisinh Gohil, claimed 12 persons in the 5-50 age group have died between September 3 and 9 due to fever in Bekhada, Sanandro, Morgar and Bharavandh villages in Lakhpat taluka.

"Persons with fever were earlier admitted to a private hospital at Vermanagar town in Lakhpat taluka. They were then taken to Dayapar CHC and finally to Bhuj general hospital. One patient was shifted to Ahmedabad. They died without recovering from the fever," former Lakhpat panchayat member Hussain Rayma said.

As per residents, patients had fever, cold, cough, pneumonia and were having difficulty breathing, while another district panchayat member Mamd Jung Jat said doctors had not been able to make an accurate diagnosis of the disease.
