The attack took place at a time when US Secretary of State Antony Blinken was set to hear demands of the Arabs for a ceasefire in a meeting to be held in Jordan.

As reported by Reuters, Al-Fakhoura school which is located in Jabalia refugee camp was hit in an Israeli strike and led to many evacuees, who had earlier taken shelter, getting killed or wounded.

Hours before, the health officials in Gaza had stated that an ambulance was hit in an airstrike which was part of the convoy carrying injured Palestinians at al-Shifa hospital.

Israel's military had stated that the ambulance was identified and hit because it was "being used by an Hamas terrorist cell" and that many Hamas fighters were killed in the attack.

Israel was challenged by the Palestinian health ministry to provide proof of militants being present in the ambulance. Israel stated that it is mulling over the release of additional information.

Gaza City was encircled by the ground forces of Israel on Thursday (Oct 2) after their bombing campaign was stepped up, which was aimed at wiping out Hamas, after a war broke out between Tel Aviv and the militant group in the wake of the October 7 assault.

Last month, Israel asked all civilians to leave Gaza Strip's northern part, which also included Gaza City, and move towards the south of the enclave, which is also being bombed by Israel.

Hamas has been accused by Israel of hiding militants among civilians across the enclave and concealing tunnel entrances and command centres in al-Shifa.

The living conditions in Gaza continue to deteriorate further in the wake of war. Food remains scarce and the people have started drinking salty water, as medical services collapse.

France will host an international humanitarian conference for the civilian population in Gaza on Nov. 9 as it looks to coordinate aid for the besieged Palestinian enclave, four diplomatic sources said.

While Paris has offered its support for Israel over a deadly Oct. 7 attack by Hamas Islamists, there has been growing concern over civilian casualties that have soared under Israel's retaliatory bombardment that has seen thousands killed, wounded and displaced in Gaza.

President Emmanuel Macron confirmed to reporters in Brittany that the conference would take place.

The conference will be at head of state, government and foreign minister level. Key regional stakeholders such as Egypt, Jordan and the Gulf Arab countries will be invited as well as Western, European powers and G20 members, excluding Russia.

International institutions, including the United Nations and Arab League, and non-governmental organisations operating in Gaza will also be present, the diplomats said.

The Palestinian Authority would be present, but Israel was not set to be invited, they said, adding that Paris would inform Israel of the initiative and the work carried out at the conference.

The conference will aim to mobilise financial resources with several sectors identified for emergency support based on U.N. assessments of the immediate needs and the opening of strictly humanitarian crossing points into Gaza.

Re-establishing the supply of water, fuel and electricity would be under discussion, while ensuring accountability processes to ensure aid was not diverted to Hamas.

"The conference will also enable all participants to take stock of the support already being channelled to civilians in Gaza, assess requirements and announce fresh commitments, whether financial or in-kind," according to a diplomatic note seen by Reuters.

"The conference will furthermore serve as a forum for reiterating the obligation to respect international humanitarian law," it said.

France is sending two helicopter carriers off the coast of Gaza as it works with Israeli and Egyptian authorities to find a way to provide medical assistance to people affected by the bombings in the besieged area.

The diplomats said there would be a discussion to set up a maritime corridor to use sea lanes to ship humanitarian aid into Gaza, but also to see how ships could be used to help the wounded evacuated from Gaza.

"It is not so clear what results this will bring, but it is the right thing to do for Europe," said one of the diplomats.

WhatsApp recently introduced an Artificial Intelligence-based feature that lets users generate images based on prompts. In a disturbing development, the said feature, as per a report, is returning pictures of a gun or a child with a gun when prompted with terms like "Muslim boy Palestinian", "Palestine" or "Palestinian".

The feature is only available in limited locations, and hence couldn't be tested by WION. However, the Guardian reports that, while results vary, its testing of the said feature rendered "various stickers portraying guns" when the three terms mentioned above were searched.

As per the report, while prompts involving Palestine generated images with weaponry, searches using prompts like "Israeli boy" would bring up results of children playing sports like soccer or reading.

France announced on Friday (Nov 3) that an Israeli rocket hit a French Institute in Gaza. In response to the strike that injured no one, the French foreign ministry in a statement said that it now wants an explanation for the act from Israel "without delay."

A statement from the ministry expressed their concern and said, "We have asked the Israeli authorities to communicate to us without delay... the tangible elements which motivated this decision."

The strike at the French Institute occurred at a time when no staff or French nationals were present there. Because of this, there were no casualties or injuries reported from the affected area.

France announced on Friday (Nov 3) that an Israeli rocket hit a French Institute in Gaza. In response to the strike that injured no one, the French foreign ministry in a statement said that it now wants an explanation for the act from Israel "without delay." A statement from the ministry expressed their concern and said, "We have asked the Israeli authorities to communicate to us without delay... the tangible elements which motivated this decision." The strike at the French Institute occurred at a time when no staff or French nationals were present there. Because of this, there were no casualties or injuries reported from the affected area. AFP CEO Fabrice Fries strongly condemned the attack, saying the office's location was not hidden and quite out in the open so that such incidents could be avoided and the agency could continue its reportage from the war-ravaged region. "The location of this office is known to everyone... precisely to prevent such an attack and allow us to continue to bear witness in images on the ground," he reportedly said. United Nations-mandated human rights experts said on Thursday (November 2) that "time is running out to prevent genocide and humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza". The experts include the special rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories.

"The time for action is now. Israel's allies also bear responsibility and must act now to prevent its disastrous course of action."

UN special rapporteurs are independent, unpaid figures who have mandate from the Human Rights Council. Although they don't speak for the United Nations, they report their findings to the agency.

"The situation in Gaza has reached a catastrophic tipping point," the experts said, warning of the "dire need" for food, water, medicine, fuel and essential supplies and the risk of looming health hazards.

The statement was signed by Francesca Albanese, special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967.

Among other signatories were the special rapporteurs on safe drinking water, mental health, food, physical health, internally displaced persons, freedom of expression, and contemporary racism.

Hamas-run Gaza health ministry has said that more than 9000 people have been killed since the outbreak of the war.

The experts from the UN called for the immediate release of all civilians held captive.

"All parties must comply with their obligations under international humanitarian and human rights law," they said.

"We demand a humanitarian ceasefire to ensure that aid reaches those who need it the most. A ceasefire also means channels of communication can be opened to ensure the release of hostages," the experts said.

Amid the Israel-Hamas war, the United Nations on Friday (Nov 3) said $1.2 billion would be the minimum amount required to meet the needs of nearly 2.7 million people in the Gaza Strip and 500,000 people in the West Bank until the end of this year.

"The cost of meeting the needs of 2.7 million people -- that is the entire population of Gaza and 500,000 people in the occupied West Bank -- is estimated to be $1.2 billion," the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said in a statement.

In an appeal on Oct 12, OCHA had sought aid of $294 million to help nearly 1.3 million people affected by the war.

"The situation has grown increasingly desperate since then," it said.

"There's been a high number of casualties reported, as well as the reported use of explosive weapons with wide area effects in some of the most densely populated areas in Gaza," said Liz Throssell, spokesperson for the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).

"We urge donors to promptly make resources available for the response," Laerke said.

"Our ability to ease the suffering of the Palestinian population will depend on adequate funding, safe and sustained access to all people in need, wherever they are, sufficient flow of humanitarian supplies, and - importantly - fuel."
