On Saturday (October 12), Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese held talks with China's premier Li Keqiang, in the first in-person meeting of the two countries' leaders since 2019, and spoke about the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic ties.

The last meeting was held between former prime minister Scott Morrison and Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2019.&nbsp;

The Australian prime minister claimed the meeting to be "positive and constructive." Both leaders spoke at a gala dinner on Saturday night at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) conference in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, AFP reported.&nbsp;

Under the previous Australian conservative government, relations with China had deteriorated to an all-time low, and Albanese's administration is all set to mend ties.

Albanese said it was for the best that this meeting occurred. "I've said repeatedly about the relationship with China -- that we should cooperate where we can and that dialogue was always a good thing."

“I am working from morning till night…seven days a week,” Elon Musk on Monday told B20 in Bali, a business conference running alongside the G20 summit in Indonesia.

The 51-year-old tech billionaire’s remarks came in response to a question about his buyout of with Twitter while simultaneously managing his auto firm, Tesla Inc.

“I have too much work on my plate, that’s for sure. I’m working the absolute most that I can work -- morning to night, seven days a week,” Musk said as he attended the conference through a video call.

Apart from running Twitter and Tesla, Musk also looks after SpaceX, his tunnelling company The Boring Co. and human-to-computer tech firm Neuralink Corp.

“The amount that I torture myself is next level, frankly.”

During his talk, Musk also spelt out his future plans on what can be expected out of Twitter and how he intends to take on other social media giants like TikTok and WeChat.

“I love the platform and I really enjoyed working at the company and trying to make it better. And I'm just really fearful of what's going to slip through the cracks,” Melissa Ingle, one of the contract workers that were sacked, was quoted as saying.

A White House official during a press conference said, "The president believes it is critical to build a floor for the relationship and ensure that there are rules of the road that bound our competition."

The official continued, "I expect the president will be honest about a number of our concerns, including PRC (People's Republic of China) activity that threatens peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, as well as our longstanding concerns about human rights violations."

Before meeting with Xi, Biden will be meeting Japanese PM Fumio Kishida and South Korean President Yoon Suk-Yeol to discuss how to stop North Korea's nuclear programme. North Korea has been recently conducting several nuclear tests. Beijing and Moscow earlier showed their support for restrictions but in May this year both rejected a US led-effort to impose additional UN sanctions on North Korea. Many believe that both did this to gain nuclear weapons from North Korea.&nbsp;

Xi's meeting with Biden takes place as China's economy struggles as a result of stringent Covid prevention efforts.&nbsp;

President Joe Biden hopes to build 'floor' for China relations, says he will make no fundamental concessions

The leaders of the 20 largest economies in the world will next week condemn the use of nuclear weapons and any threat to use them, according to an early draft of a G20 statement, as reported by Reuters.&nbsp;On November 15–16, the G20 leaders will convene in Indonesia, where the Russian invasion of Ukraine will be the main topic of discussion.

"Many members strongly condemned Russia's illegal, unjustifiable and unprovoked war of aggression against Ukraine, and called on it to immediately end the war," the draft, which may change and would need Moscow's approval for unanimity, said.

"The use or threat of the use, of nuclear weapons is inadmissible," it added.

Following two remarks by President Vladimir Putin in which he suggested he would, if necessary, use such weapons to defend Russia, anxiety about a potential nuclear escalation during Russia's war in Ukraine had increased.

As per the draft, many G20 members also think the invasion is "constraining growth, increasing inflation, disrupting supply chains, heightening energy and food insecurity, and elevating financial stability risks."

Russian President Vladimir Putin will not be attending the G20 summit&nbsp;and&nbsp;the Kremlin&nbsp; also dismissed all reports of him addressing the world leaders via video conference. Meanwhile, Russian defence ministry confirmed on Friday that the troops have completed their evacuation from Ukraine’s Kherson region. The region was annexed by Russia following a series of referendums which were considered to be “sham” by the US and most western countries.

Sunak, Britain's first Indian-origin PM, had spoken to PM Modi after taking charge last month. Early finalisation of India-UK Free trade agreement (FTA) was discussed during this conversation.&nbsp;

PM Modi's meet with French President Macron will provide an occasion to reaffirm the close partnership New Delhi and Paris have. &nbsp;France has recently&nbsp;issued its National Strategic Review 2022 in which it has emphasised deeper cooperation with New Delhi. The PM will also hold talks with the Suriname president &amp; with host-- Indonesia's President Joko widodo.

The 17th edition of the G20 summit takes place from November 15 to 16. The summit will see world leaders gathering to chalk out solution for the current global crisis. US President Joe Biden will also be in Bali which is also know as "Island of the Gods".&nbsp;

The logo, which has the colors of Indian national flag juxtaposes planet Earth with the lotus, India’s national flower.

But India sounds hopeful as PM at the time of the launch said, "India's G20 presidency is coming at a time of crisis and chaos in the world. India will host G20 sumit next year for the first time since 2008. Under Indian presidency, two hundred G20 meetings will take place across the country beginning December of this year. The first meeting will be the Sherpa meeting in Udaipur in the first week of December.

G20 doesn't have a secretariat but it's the president of the grouping who decides the agenda. India already has set up a G20 Secretariat under the Ministry of External Affairs. It has over 40 officials. The secretariat is headed by India's Sherpa Amitabh Kant, India's G20 Chief Coordinator Harsh Vardhan Shringla and G20 special operations lead Muktesh Pardeshi.

“India's G20 presidency is coming at a time of crisis and chaos in the world. The world is going through the aftereffects of disruptive once-in-a-century pandemic, conflicts and lot of economic uncertainty,” he said. “The symbol of lotus in the G20 logo is a representation of hope in these times. No matter how adverse the circumstances, the lotus still blooms.”

“In Indian culture, both the goddesses of knowledge and prosperity are seated on a lotus. This is what the world needs the most today. Shared knowledge that helps us overcome our circumstances and shared prosperity that reaches the last person at the last mile. This is why the earth is placed on lotus too. The seven petals on the lotus in the logo are also significant. It represents the seven continents. Seven is also the number of notes in the universal language of music. In music, when the seven notes come together, they create perfect harmony,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said.&nbsp;

Italy and Indonesia, along with India, are part of the G20 troika: past, present, and incoming presidencies. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also announced his state visit to Indonesia next week, while unveiling the theme, logo, and website for New Delhi G20 summit.&nbsp;

The Group of Twenty countries represents nearly 90 per cent of the global gross national product, 80 per cent of world trade (including EU intra-trade), and two-thirds of the world’s population. India has been a member of the G20 since its inception in 1999. Its other 19 members are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America.&nbsp;

With Russia-Ukraine conflict looming large over the G20 Bali Summit later this month, Indonesia's ambassador to India Ina Krisnamurthi has emphasised the need for 'dialogue' . The summit will take place at the Nusa Dua Convention Center in Bali on November 15 and 16.

Speaking to WION's Principal Diplomatic Correspondent Sidhant Sibal, Ambassador Krisnamurthi said,"One of the principles Indonesia's presidency has is that dialogue in whatever form is more important than no dialogue whatsoever".&nbsp;

Indonesia has extended invite to both the Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky to attend the mega summit.&nbsp;

This year's summit is important for India as the presidency of the grouping will be handed over to New Delhi. India, as the president of the grouping for a period of one year, will host the summit in September next year. Asked about the hopes regarding India's presidency, Ambassador said, "I believe India will champion the G20 presidency in the future."

Together, the G20 members represent more than 80 per cent of world's GDP, 75 per cent of international trade and 60 per cent of the world population. It emerged primarily as an economic grouping after the 2008 financial crisis and has taken on a political role as well amid a dysfunctional United Nations Security Council.&nbsp;

WION: What preparations are underway to host this big-ticket summit?

Ina Krisnamurthi: Logistically, efforts are on to ensure that all guests are welcomed properly, and they feel at home during the stay in Bali. Security wise, Bali is one of the most secure places. It is an island, a destination very close to the hearts of the Indian people, culturally, historically. My leaders, president, minister of finance, foreign affairs, coordinating minister for economy, maritime all are trying their best in coordinating efforts to make G20 a success.

WION: What will be the key focus area under the Indonesian Presidency for the grouping?

Ina Krisnamurthi: Throughout the year, since December 2021, when we received handover from Italy, we had three priorities -- health, governance and digital economy and energy. We push forward for any effort, any policy implemented to and for G20 members, and we keep that promise. Although it is not an easy period for G20 because of the global dynamics, we push forward for that. That is with two principles in mind, which is that we want a stronger multilateral forum, and want to have a very inclusive way of decision which is why we included pacific island countries in our deliberation. Priorities are done throughout the year, and we will not change that for the summit.&nbsp;

WION: How significant is it for your country? Because so far countries who have hosted the summit are developed countries and with Indonesia it is the start of developing countries hosting the summit.

Ina Krisnamurthi: Until 2025, G20 will be headed by emerging economies, so for sure the presidency of G20 is very important because we make an effort for the interest of the emerging economies to be heard, listened to in the G20 format. This presidency is also important because the pandemic resulted in a very severe economic situation for everyone and the worst victims have been emerging economies, less developed countries. For sure, G20 is very important for Indonesia because Indonesia is experiencing turbulence in its economy while we experience the pandemic. We have priorities, like health governance, so that we are more prepared for future pandemic.&nbsp;

Second is digital economy...During the pandemic, we have survived and thrived due to digital economy.

Third issue is more and more important. It is food, energy, water security with climate change. It is becoming key element for progress and development for our community and society.

WION: What challenge do you see for the G20 summit, in front of you, even as the Russia-Ukraine conflict has been having its impact?

Ina Krisnamurthi: One of the principles Indonesia's presidency has is that dialogue in whatever form is more important than no dialogue whatsoever. People coming in one room to discuss matters, common concerns are more important than thinking about 2-3 parties' interests.&nbsp;

Throughout the presidency for Indonesia, bridging all interests is making everyone come in the same room, to develop dialogue, to discuss the common interest. That is why we have priorities we keep putting forth for whatever reason the global dynamics is. The challenge to bridge the tension, differences, yes, it is very challenging. But at the same time, if we do not sit together in one same room, the challenge or the problem or the matter will not go away. Pandemic also teaches us that no one is securely safe from the pandemic. Everyone experiences the pandemic. Everyone can't live by themselves; everyone needs support to survive the pandemic. Bridging the pandemic is not about making sure everyone has one interest. At least we tried to come up with an avenue for everyone to sit together, to do the dialogue.&nbsp;

WION: Do you expect a family photo, the western leaders and the Russian President to be together?

Ina Krisnamurthi: I think, all are in the eyes of the beholder because the photo ops are not actually substantive in nature, that is my personal opinion. Because the family photo is only a family photo opportunity and doesn't show anything. More than 20 people coming on one stage and taking pictures, does not show anything. The reason for them to come to Bali and sit together, that is more substantial for us rather than family photos. It is not important for family photos to happen or to not happen. The most important thing is that the G20 becomes an avenue for everyone to just state views, state opinions on what to do for the world for a better international community.&nbsp;

WION: Have President Putin, President Zelensky confirmed that they will come to Bali?

Ina Krisnamurthi: Well, the last information, you can find in open media, that my president did not even say who is coming and when they are coming. But for sure, we are trying our best. Even my President is taking calls from leaders. During G7 meetings, he made an effort for everyone to understand Indonesia's position and for Indonesia to understand everyone's position on certain issues, so avenue of dialogue is there. We have seen efforts by my minister, foreign minister and also finance minister to just go and have meetings. You may know, the G20 is the only prime economic framework for leaders to sit down and think about the future of the world.

WION: Are you hopeful of a breakthrough in Bali, in terms of the leaders coming together, do you see President Putin, Zelensky meeting?

Ina Krisnamurthi: For the bilateral meetings, I believe, many bilaterals. Even to sit down in the same room and speak, maybe not to each other, but speaking on behalf of the G20 is a breakthrough.

WION: How do you see the Indian presidency of the grouping that will be handed over from you?

Ina Krisnamurthi: I think the most interesting part for the Indian presidency is that the troika is the historical troika because in the first time of the history of G20, the troika would consist of three emerging economies...For India it is very historical. I have seen how the internet goes crazy with minister Jaishankar going around the world and explaining about India's policy. I think his way of leadership for sure will be a good way for India to lead the G20 into a better position in the future. Unfortunately, India, Indonesia hope that the challenge we experience will be completed before India's presidency but unfortunately-not. The problem of food, energy, and water security is still there. India is among the best in making sure the emerging economies experience the same positive impact. I believe India will champion the G20 presidency in the future.&nbsp;

WION: Why was Bali chosen for the G20 summit?

Ina Krisnamurthi: During Covid, Bali for us was the worst victim of pandemic. More than 90% of its economy depends so much on tourism. We need to help our brothers and sisters in Bali to overcome this challenge. Secondly, Indonesia has hosted events at the summit level, including WTO ministerial, APEC. We believe that Bali has a certain vibrancy. Everyone coming to the island has certain comfortability and at the end the meeting is successful, and the outcome is also substantive. This is why Bali is the host of the G20 summit.&nbsp;

Indonesia envoy emphasises dialogue as Russia-Ukraine conflict looms over G20 Bali summit

US secretary of state Antony Blinken, during a press conference with his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar, said the two countries have "the most consequential partnership" in the world.

He said both countries have made significant progress in elevating their partnership through organisations like QUAD, the G20, and other global organisations, including at the United Nations. India's takeover of the G20 presidency in December this year is a way to drive more global cooperation and action, he added.

During their bilateral&nbsp;meeting on Tuesday, Blinken and Jaishankar discussed how both countries could achieve their economic, geopolitical, and security goals, including strengthening the India-US partnership.

Blinken referred to this alliance as an essential need to address every political challenge that people face, including climate change, health, and food security.

Blinken said, "Over the past years, we have made real progress in elevating that partnership bilaterally that is directly between us through institutions like the QUAD and the G-20 and in international organisations, including at the United Nations."

Jaishankar stated that the scope and depth of the US-India relationship have grown significantly, PTI reported. The Indian external affairs minister specifically mentioned that his conversation with Blinken also included a discussion on the turmoil in Ukraine and the Indo-Pacific situation.
