Nearly 92 people are still missing in North Carolina, weeks after Hurricane Helene devastated the western stretch of the state, Gov. Roy Cooper said in a news conference on Tuesday. He cautioned that the latest count of 92 people could change, "as more reports come in and others are resolved." He said, "I want to caution that this is not a definitive count because the task force is continuing its work.”

While rescue teams are looking for missing individuals, 95 storm-related deaths in North Carolina have been verified by the officials, and more than 220 have been killed by Helene, including in Florida, where the storm made landfall.

He urged people to heed evacuation orders after he said too many ignored them for Helene, resulting in 12 deaths in the county and 1,500 emergency calls that were unable to be answered.

The county already ordered the evacuation of six hospitals, 25 nursing homes and 44 assisted living facilities totaling 6,600 patients, said Cathie Perkins, director of the county's emergency management. School was canceled from Monday to Wednesday.

Father Rodriguez, according to the police, initially refused to give the woman Communion bread on May 19. Instead, he told her, "she did not do the prior steps necessary" to receive the Communion.

He "advised her to receive the Sacrament of Penance (Confession) before coming back to receive Holy Communion (Eucharist)", said the Diocese of Orlando in a statement.

Upon this, the woman told the police, he (the priest) "became upset and tried to ram the 'cookie' in her mouth".

She then tried to grab another Communion bread, but the priest grabbed her and bit her arm.&nbsp;

The diocese contends that "Father Rodriguez offered the woman Holy Communion on the tongue. At that point, the woman forcefully placed her hand in the vessel and grabbed some sacred Communion hosts, crushing them."

"Having only one hand free, Father Rodriguez struggled to restrain the woman as she refused to let go of the hosts. When the woman pushed him and reacting to a perceived act of aggression, Father Rodriguez bit her hand so she would let go of the hosts she grabbed," it adds.

In what comes as a bizarre news, a Georgia man in the US broke into a church in the state of Florida, caused damage worth several thousand dollars and then&nbsp;allegedly “baptised&nbsp;himself” in the sanctuary’s font, according to a report in New York Post.&nbsp;

The incident transpired at the&nbsp;Emerald Beach Church of God in Panama City Beach in the first week of August. According to police officers who responded to the burglary call, the accused identified as&nbsp;Derek Porter had used a cinderblock to smash a window to get inside.&nbsp;

"On August 4th, 2023, Bay County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) responded to a Burglary call at the Emerald Beach Church of God off of Alf Coleman Rd. Deputies discovered Derek Porter from Georgia had used a cinder block to smash the window of the church to enter inside," said the police.&nbsp;

“While inside, Porter caused approximately $8,000 worth of damage to the church.&nbsp;Porter then loaded several electronics including a television and a computer into his truck along with the church’s money bag."

The sheriff's office said a female employee was inside the church when&nbsp;Porter entered the premises. However, she fled the scene quickly after hearing the glass breaking.&nbsp;

After police apprehended Porter, he said he could not remember what happened during "various moments inside the church".&nbsp;

“He did remember however baptising himself in the church’s baptistry pool. Porter claims ‘something’ was holding his head down under the water while in the pool,” it added.

A court in the US sentenced an art dealer to two years and three months imprisonment on Tuesday (May 30) after he was found involved in a scheme which was aimed at the sale of fake Andy Warhol paintings. 
 
Daniel Elie Bouaziz,69, was sentenced in Fort Pierce federal court in South Florida. In February, he pleaded guilty to a single count of money laundering, while prosecutors decided to drop 16 other counts which are related to embezzlement and fraud. 
 
A fine of $15,000 was imposed on Bouaziz, and the court will hold a restitution hearing on August 16. Prosecutors stated that Palm Beach County's Danieli Fine Art and Galerie Danieli's owner Bouaziz sold counterfeit artworks in October 2021 to a customer, which included pieces purportedly by Warhol. 
 
He also sold fake paintings by Keith Haring, Henri Matisse and Roy Lichtenstein.

The customer was told by Bouaziz that the pieces, which were being sold by him for prices ranging between $75,000 and $240,000, were all authentic originals and that some pieces have been signed by the artists themselves, stated investigators. 
 
Officials stated that Bouaziz was made a down payment of $200,000 by the customer which was deposited into the account of Bouaziz, and then the comingled funds were transferred to other accounts. In reality, the paintings were reproductions purchased in online auctions.

<h2>Appeal for 'reasonable' sentence to&nbsp;Bouaziz</h2>

The judge was appealed to give a “reasonable” sentence to Bouaziz, considering his age and poor health. 
 
“While Bouaziz may (have) been generous to some, as countless people claim in their letters of support to this court, he was defrauding others,” stated Assistant US Attorney Sarah Schall. 
 
“Bouaziz won people over with his philanthropy, high-end vehicles, ties to the local synagogue, invitations to lunch, history as an opera singer, art events and more,” he added.

Bouaziz was charged in June after an investigation which involved serving search warrants at his galleries, reviewing his financial records as well as undercover purchases of what has been deemed to be fraudulent art.

Art dealer faces two years in prison for selling fake Andy Warhol paintings

A newly-introduced Advanced Placement course, based on African American studies, was stopped by the administration of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis from being taught to students in high schools, stating that the course is in violation of state law and is inaccurate historically.&nbsp;Last week, the programme was rejected by the state education department in a letter sent to the College Board, which is responsible for overseeing Advanced Placement classes.

The education officials of Florida did not clearly state what content was found objectionable by the state, but said, “As presented, the content of this course is inexplicably contrary to Florida law and significantly lacks educational value.”

“In the future, should College Board be willing to come back to the table with lawful, historically accurate content, (the education department) will always be willing to reopen the discussion,” the letter added.&nbsp;

The College Board, in a statement, said, “Like all new AP courses, AP African American Studies is undergoing a rigorous, multi-year pilot phase, collecting feedback from teachers, students, scholars and policymakers.”

“The process of piloting and revising course frameworks is a standard part of any new AP course, and frameworks often change significantly as a result,” read the statement.

The course has been described as interdisciplinary by the College Board website, which further states that it touches on humanities, arts, science, literature, geography and political science. For more than a decade, the organisation has been working on creating the course, as per the website.&nbsp;

DeSantis, a potential candidate for the 2024 presidential race, has raised opposition against what he terms as liberal ideologies in schools, which include studies around critical race theory that studies systemic racism and has become conservatives' frequent target.&nbsp;

Course on African American studies blocked in Florida by Governor Ron DeSantis

Florida health officials said on Thursday they have evidence that the Covid-19 variant first detected in the United Kingdom has been found in a patient there, making it the third state to report the strain.

The state Health Department tweeted that the strain was identified in a 20-year-old man in Martin County with no history of travel. The county is on Florida's east coast, south of Port St. Lucie.

A day earlier, Colorado Governor Jared Polis said the variant had been identified there, while another state health official said a second possible case was being investigated.

The cases, found in individuals who had not recent traveled, showed the likely community spread of the variant from person-to-person in the United States. Health experts have said they believe the new variant is more infectious but recently approved vaccines should provide protection against it.

Health officials have stressed that the best way to avoid getting what is referred to as the U.K. variant is the same as for other forms of the coronavirus: washing hands, keeping away from crowds and other people and wearing a mask.

Florida has recorded over 15,000 new cases in the past 24 hours on Sunday. The massive surge was witnessed a day after Walt Disney World in Orlando reopened and anti-mask activists held a rally at a nearby restaurant.
