<p>In&nbsp;a major setback for Electric Vehicle maker Tesla, the Indian finance ministry on Thursday said it is not considering any custom duty waiver for the Elon Musk-owned company.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Any duty waiver for Tesla is not under active consideration of the Department of Revenue, as of now," Reuters quoted India's revenue secretary Sanjay Malhotra as saying.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The finance ministry's statement came after Musk had claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged&nbsp;his company to make substantial investments in India.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Malhotra's statement carries importance as the Electric Vehicle maker in the past had sought custom duty waivers for importing Tesla cars into India. But India had denied Tesla's request in the past, leading to a breakdown in the talks to establish a presence in Asia's third-largest economy.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It is to be noted that India imposes a 100 per cent import duty on Electric Vehicles.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Tesla, the world's most-valued automaker, was recently in the news for holding discussions with the Indian government to establish a car factory.&nbsp;The Times of India had reported that Tesla was exploring the possibility of establishing its auto parts and electronics chain in India.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The proposed factory is expected to have an annual production capacity of 500,000 EVs, with prices starting at $24,400. Additionally, Tesla is looking at India as a base for its EVs, which will be exported to the Indo-Pacific region. This will also help the EV maker reduce its supply chain dependence on China.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Twitter has urged a US federal court to amend or terminate an order of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) that lets it monitor the social media app’s data security practices.</p>

<p>Elon Musk’s lawyers have claimed that once the 52-year-old billionaire took over the company last year in March, the FTC intensified its investigation into the company which “has spiralled out of control and become tainted by bias,” AP news agency reported.</p>

<p>The FTC has been monitoring Twitter since it gave consent to the order in 2011 following allegations of security data lapses. But the lawyers have claimed bias once Musk bought the company.</p>

<p>It comes after reports in March revealed that FTC was probing Musk's mass layoffs at Twitter and trying to obtain his internal communications as part of ongoing oversight into the social media company's privacy and cybersecurity practices, according to documents described in a congressional report.</p>

<p>In May 2022, Twitter paid nearly $150 million for violating the 2011 consent order, about five months before Musk took over.</p>

<p>An updated version established new procedures requiring the company to implement an enhanced privacy-protection program as well as beefing up information security.</p>

<h2><strong>'FTC pummeling Twitter'</strong></h2>

<p>In the filing, Twitter, whose corporate name was changed to X Corp last year, claimed that the FTC has “pummelled” the company with “burdensome letters and requests for depositions,” issuing demands for information as frequently as one letter every other week.</p>

<p>The FTC wanted to depose Musk on July 25, the filing states, but FTC Chair Lina Khan declined to meet with him personally until Twitter complied with the information requests.</p>

<p>According to Twitter’s plea, FTC issued 16 demand letters to X Corp. since Musk took charge of Twitter, compared to around 28 demand letters it issued in the last 10 years, AP news agency reported.</p>

<h2><strong>Stay on deposition&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>Twitter has sought intervention of the US District Court for the Northern District of California, seeking a protective order and relief from the consent order.</p>

<p>It also seeks a stay that would prevent the FTC from deposing Musk.</p>

<p>“X Corp has responded to this avalanche of demands as best it can, responding promptly to FTC inquiries and producing more than 22,000 documents to date,” the filing states.</p>

<p>"The FTC’s overreach has now culminated in a demand to depose Musk, who is not, and never has been, a party to the consent order."</p>

<p>A hearing date is listed for August 17, but the filing states that a hearing may occur on such other date and time as the court may order.</p>

Twitter pleads US federal court to end FTC oversight before Elon Musk’s deposition

<p>Elon Musk-owned Twitter on Thursday (July 14) started sharing advertising revenue to select content creators on the platform. Users who subscribed to Twitter Blue and managed to earn more than five million tweet impressions each month for the last three months are eligible to earn a share of the pie.&nbsp;</p>

<p>An automatic email went to eligible creators wherein it was stated that they will receive their share of the ad revenue within the next three days in their connected Stripe accounts.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Twitter released a statement saying the programme's rollout will be expanded later this month to all eligible creators.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"We’re expanding our creator monetisation offering to include ads revenue sharing for creators. This means that creators can get a share in ad revenue, starting in the replies to their posts. This is part of our effort to help people earn a living directly on Twitter. We're rolling out the program more broadly later this month and all eligible creators will be able to apply."</p>

<p>After the announcement, some of the creators shared screenshots of the email showing they were getting substantial amounts for their content and virality.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Billy Markus, the co-creator of the Dogecoin cryptocurrency, shared his payout, which amounted to a whopping $37,050. Meanwhile, writer&nbsp;Brian Krassenstein with over 750,000 followers said Twitter paid him almost $25,000.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Musk took to&nbsp;the platform and said the first payout for ads that appear in content creator's reply threads would be cumulative from when he first announced the programme in February. Earlier this week, Musk informed about the payout saying the first block of payment amounted to $5 million.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"In a few weeks, X/Twitter will start paying creators for ads served in their replies. First block payment totals $5M. Note, the creator must be verified and only ads served to verified users count," tweeted Musk.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg appears ready for his potential cage fight with fellow billionaire Elon Musk. Zuckerberg trained hard with world-class MMA fighters and posted a photo to send a message to Musk.&nbsp;</p>

<p>US billionaire Elon Musk and Twitter have been slapped with a $500 million lawsuit over alleged non-payment of severance packages to ex-employees. The lawsuit was filed by law firm Sanford Heisler Sharp on Wednesday in US District Court for the Northern District of California on behalf of employees who were fired from Twitter post Musk's takeover.</p>

<p>The lawsuit seeks damages worth $500 million as well as directions for Twitter to “abide by all terms of the severance plan by paying all terminated employees what they are owed.”</p>

<h2><strong>Twitter’s severance plan gone for a toss</strong></h2>

<p>It is alleged that prior to Elon Musk's takeover of Twitter, the company had a severance plan in place for its employees, which was protected under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA). According to the complaint, both Musk and Twitter assured employees that the benefits provided by the severance plan would continue even after the acquisition.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, the lawsuit claims that Twitter and Musk have failed to uphold their promise and have not paid the expected benefits to the terminated employees.</p>

<p>“Musk initially represented to employees that under his leadership Twitter would continue to abide by the severance plan,” Sanford Heisler Sharp’s firm administrative partner in Washington, Kate Mueting, said in a statement. “He apparently made these promises knowing that they were necessary to prevent mass resignations that would have threatened the viability of the merger and the vitality of Twitter itself.”</p>

<h2><strong>Twitter’s legal challenges</strong></h2>

<p>This is not the first time Twitter has faced legal challenges regarding its mass layoffs. In May, a class-action lawsuit accusing Twitter of gender-based layoffs was dismissed by a federal judge due to a lack of specific details in the complaint.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>How many people Twitter fired after Musk's takeover?</strong></h2>

<p>Since Elon Musk took control of Twitter in October 2022, significant changes have occurred within the company. The executive leadership was replaced, and the board was dismantled.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Subsequently, Twitter conducted four rounds of widespread employee layoffs, resulting in a reduction of approximately 80 per cent in its workforce, from an estimated 7,800 employees to around 1,500.</p>

According to the complaint, both Musk and Twitter assured employees that the benefits provided by the severance plan would continue even after the acquisition. However, the lawsuit claims that Twitter and Musk have failed to uphold their promise and have not paid the expected benefits to the terminated employees. In May, a class-action lawsuit accusing Twitter of gender-based layoffs was dismissed by a federal judge due to a lack of specific details in the complaint. <p>As per a state filing, in March, Musk registered a company named X.AI Corp in Nevada. The document lists him as the sole director of the firm, while Jared Birchall, the managing director of Musk's family office, is listed as the secretary.</p>

<p>Dan Hendrycks, who currently serves as the director of the Center for AI Safety, with his work focusing on the risks associated with AI, will serve as an adviser to the xAI team.</p>

<p>Earlier this year, in April, Musk announced his intention to launch TruthGPT, an AI system focused on seeking maximum truth, to rival Google's Bard and Microsoft's Bing AI, which as per him will aim to understand the nature of the universe.</p>

<p>Generative AI gained significant attention with the release of OpenAI's popular chatbot, ChatGPT, in November of the previous year, preceding the launches of Bard and Bing AI.</p>

<p>The xAI website while emphasising its commitment to assembling a skilled team has also announced the startup's plans to recruit experienced engineers and researchers in the Bay Area.</p>

<p>The news report in the journal describes variety of plans or renderings for Musk's glass home.</p>

<p>A concept reportedly shows a 'twisted hexagon' shaped structure on a waterfront land with Tesla's factory in the background.</p>

<p>Some other renderings show an expansive glass box which the journal says is reminiscent of Apple store on Manhattan fifth avenue. This rendering reportedly shows residential area which includes bedrooms, bathrooms and a kitchen.</p>

<p>Another design showed a 'waterfall feature' in landscaping and a pick-up truck which WSJ said resembled Tesla's forthcoming cybertruck.</p>

<h2><strong>Glass worth millions of dollars</strong></h2>

<p>The report has also revealed that a company order for millions of dollars of worth specialised glass raised some concerns within Tesla as the purpose of the order was not immediately clear.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The probe that has now been launched is focussing on determining whether company resources were misused and if Elon Musk himself was involved in this.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Tesla's factory in Austin, Texas is of great importance to Musk's expanding empire in the Lone Star State. The company calls the factory Giga Texas.</p>

<p>WSJ reported that as Tesla employees worked on the 'Project 42, the company was in the process of getting its new assembly plant in Texas up and running. This was surely an endeavor that took a lot of capital. At this factory, Tesla builds it Model Y crossover. The factory officially opened in 2022.</p>

Most participants preferred the use of 'they/them' pronouns on their resumes.</p>

<p>The researchers conducted an experiment by sending out two identical resumes to 180 job postings seeking entry-level candidates. The only difference between the resumes was the inclusion of gender-neutral pronouns ('they/them') in one version, while the other version did not have any pronouns.</p>
