<p>Although it was predicted that the opposition conservative People’s Party (PP) is likely to defeat the Spanish Socialist Workers Party (PSOE) and emerge as the winner in Sunday's elections, early results quickly reflected that the race was going to be much tighter.</p>

<p>Once the total votes were counted, the PP had clinched 136 seats to the PSOE’s 122. The potential coalition partners of conservatives, the far-right Vox party, had clinched 33 seats and PSOE’s allies in the far-left Sumar alliance had 31 seats.</p>

<p>The vote counts showed that the polls have ended with an inconclusive result as the left and right blocs run almost neck and neck in their race to gain a majority of 176 seats as soon as possible.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Till Monday, PP and Vox had secured 169 seats in comparison to the PSOE and Sumar’s 153, which reflects that the country will see weeks of negotiating and horse-trading as options are being explored by rival parties to form a government.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The two blocs will start negotiations to form governments after a new parliament convenes on August 17. PP’s leader Alberto Nunez Feijoo will be invited by King Felipe VI and will be given an opportunity to secure the prime ministership. PP leader Mariano Rajoy had once declined the invitation of the king after a similar situation had arisen in 2015.&nbsp;</p>

<p>If Feijoo declines the invitation, the king will make the same request to Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez. No deadline for the process has been set by the law but if a majority is not secured by any candidate within two months of the first vote on the prime minister, the country needs to hold new elections.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, however, said no date had been set for the general election.</p>

<p>“No decision has so far been taken on the dissolution of the parliament,” she said in a tweet, adding a formal announcement would be made about the election date after a consultation among all coalition partners.</p>

<p>It is believed that the general elections would take place in November, but official confirmation from the Election Commission of Pakistan is awaited.</p>

<p>According to Pakistani election laws, general elections should take place within 60 days if the elected house completes its constitutional tenure of five years.</p>

<p>If the National Assembly is dissolved prematurely, then elections are held within 90 days of the dissolution.</p>

<p>He added that all the decisions will be taken after consulting with the coalition partners. The minister, however, did not elaborate on their plans.</p>

<p>"I want to remind Congress workers that whether it is Bihar or any other state, you are our 'Babbar Sher (lion)'. You fight for ideology and it is the job of the Congress to protect you. It is the duty of all of us, the leaders, to protect the workers of the Congress," Gandhi told the party workers.</p>

<p>Later in a tweet in Hindi, Gandhi said, "We, the ones who unite India, will defeat those who divide India."</p>

<p>A Canadian official appointed by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to look into accusations of Chinese meddling in Canada's last two elections resigned on Friday. The elder statesman put down papers after backlash from the opposition party over his appointment.</p>

<p>Former governor general David Johnston recently released an interim report concluding that Beijing had attempted to interfere in Canada's 2019 and 2021 elections but failed to change outcome of the votes. He was going to begin hearing in the next month with testimony from targetted diaspora communities as well as experts in national security and international relations. He was to submit a final report in October.</p>

<p>"When I undertook the task of independent special rapporteur on foreign interference, my objective was to help build trust in our democratic institutions," Johnston said in his resignation letter.</p>

<p>The minority government led by Trudeau had faced pressure to explain the alleged Chinese interference in Canada's elections. The claims were first reported by the local media. These reports cited leaked intellilgence documents and unnamed sources who said that China sought to influence or subvert the elections.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The reported accusations included secret campaign donations and Chinese operatives working for Canadian candidates or lawmakers in an attempt to influence policy.</p>

<p>Following Johnston's appointment, three opposition legislators said Canada's spy agency told them they had been the target of Chinese interference.</p>

<p>Recently, it had emerged that China had sought to intimidate a Canadian lawmaker and his relatives in Hong Kong because of his criticism of China.</p>

<p>Last month, Ottawa expelled a Chinese diplomat implicated in the scheme.</p>
