<p>This comes weeks after attacks on the minority Hindu community in Bangladesh subsequent to student protests against quotas&nbsp;in education and jobs for descendants of Bangladesh's freedom fighters. This also led to the resignation of then Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina.&nbsp;</p>

In the Hindu calendar, Mahalaya is an auspicious day that is widely observed with great zeal and devotion throughout the Indian subcontinent, particularly in Bangladesh and West Bengal, India. The eagerly awaited Durga Puja holiday, which celebrates the victory of good over evil, kicks off on this day. Mahalaya falls on Saturday, October 14, 2023, this year.

<p>The Bangladesh government has given permission to traders to export nearly 4,000 metric tonnes of Hilsa, a&nbsp;very popular and sought-after food fish among&nbsp;Bengalis,&nbsp;to India ahead of West Bengal's biggest festival, Durga Puja, an official statement read on Wednesday.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Bangladesh Commerce Ministry gave its nod to 79 business organisations to export 3,950 metric tonnes of Hilsas to India. The exporters would be able to export 50 metric tonnes of Hilsas each.</p>

<p>This order will remain valid till October 30, according to the official release by the Sheikh Hasina administration.</p>

<p>Hilsa, the national fish of Bangladesh, is one of the country's export items that come with the Geographical Indication (GI) tag.</p>

<p>In 2020, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee urged Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, during the latter's visit to Kolkata, to consider lifting the ban on the export of Hilsas to India.</p>

<p>However, Hasina said for her country to lift the curbs on the export of Hilsa, which tops the cravings of the fish-loving Bengalis, India should first ensure a fair share of water from the Teesta river of North Bengal to the neighbouring country.</p>

The Bangladesh government has given permission to traders to export nearly 4,000 metric tonnes of Hilsa, a very popular and sought-after food fish among Bengalis, to India ahead of West Bengal's biggest festival, Durga Puja, an official statement read on Wednesday. Bangladesh Commerce Ministry gave its nod to 79 business organisations to export 3,950 metric tonnes of Hilsas to India. The exporters would be able to export 50 metric tonnes of Hilsas each. This order will remain valid till October 30, according to the official release by the Sheikh Hasina administration. Hilsa, the national fish of Bangladesh, is one of the country's export items that come with the Geographical Indication (GI) tag. In 2020, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee urged Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, during the latter's visit to Kolkata, to consider lifting the ban on the export of Hilsas to India. However, Hasina said for her country to lift the curbs on the export of Hilsa, which tops the cravings of the fish-loving Bengalis, India should first ensure a fair share of water from the Teesta river of North Bengal to the neighbouring country. <p>“We are in the final stages of discussion, and all that remains as the dates. I want him to come on the 16th, 17th and 18th. But Ronaldinho also has some professional commitments for which there are a few finer details that need to be thrashed out, and then he can surely arrive before the festivities begin in the city,” Dutta explained.</p>

<p>On his brief visit to India, Ronaldinho will visit Mohun Bagan and East Bengal grounds, trying to play at least half an hour of football. Besides these, Ronaldinho will also pay a visit to Narendrapur Green Park Durga Puja pandal, which is set to be designed like the 2022 FIFA World Cup final&nbsp;venue – the Lusail Stadium in Qatar.</p>

<p>If everything goes according to plan, an 80-foot statue of another football great Argentina’s Lionel Messi, will be the star attraction at the venue.</p>
