The US has denied Russian claims it masterminded an alleged drone attack on the Kremlin on Wednesday aimed at assassinating President Vladimir Putin. A day after accusing Ukraine of carrying out the alleged attack, Mr Putin's spokesman said it had been done with Washington's support.

Taiwan's defence ministry said on Wednesday (May 3) that the self-ruled island detected a Chinese reconnaissance drone sent to conduct a so-called 'island encirclement patrol,' reported South China Morning Post (SCMP). This is the second time Taiwan has announced that a Chinese drone encircled the island in the last two weeks. According to a report by SCMP, the Taiwanese Defence Ministry said that the drone was accompanied by a transport aircraft which had an advanced jamming system.

In addition to this, the defence ministry&nbsp;said that it detected 27 aircraft of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) between 6 am on Tuesday and 6 am on Wednesday. Thirteen planes then entered Taiwan's Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ).

On April 28, Taiwan said that said 19 Chinese military aircraft entered the island's air defence identification zone in addition to the encirclement by the drone.

China considers Taiwan to be its own territory and has not ruled out the use of force to capture the democratically-ruled island. China has increased military pressure on Taiwan in recent years.

Just last month, China conducted war games around the island. These war games coincided with Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen's meeting with US House of Representatives Speaker Kevin McCarthy in Los Angeles.

The tension between Taiwan and China has alarmed US, the biggest backer of Taiwan. The US and its allies have been repeatedly expressing concerns about&nbsp;China's moves. They have called for no forced change in the status quo.

Late last month, US Navy P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft flew through the Taiwan Strait. In addition to this, a French lawmaker confirmed to Reuters that a warship had recently transited the sensitive waterway.

The US and its allies have sent warships and aircraft through the Taiwan Strait in recent years.

Last year, China claimed that it had sovereignty, sovereign rights and jurisdiction over Taiwan Strait. It insisted that it was "a false claim" to refer to the strait as international waters.

The United States and Taiwan both say China's position is not correct.

A retired US general on Wednesday urged Taiwan to learn from Russia's war in Ukraine and boost its unmanned drone defences. Retired US Marines Lieutenant General Steven Rudder was part of a delegation of American defence contractors in Taipei on Wednesday to discuss the development of military hardware -- including unmanned aerial systems (UASs) -- with Taiwanese companies. &nbsp;

On the sidelines of the forum, he told reporters, "We've seen smaller UASs take a very prominent role and we've seen ground forces in distributed manners are able to create a factor of defensive firepower within an urban environment in ways that we haven't explored before."&nbsp;

This technology, he said, "allows you to create coverage in areas where you don't have conventional forces".&nbsp;

Chinese drone encircles Taiwan again, second time in recent weeks: Report

Taiwan's defence ministry said on Friday (April 28) that a long range Chinese combat drone capable of carrying large weapons payload has circled the island nation. According to local media, this is the first time the defence ministry has reported a Chinese military aircraft making the circle from one end of the median line to the other.

The median line is an unofficial boundary that divides the Taiwan Strait between Taiwan and China. The drone's circling flight path saw it crossing the median line to the island's south before flying around its east coast and returning to China. Taiwanese defence ministry released a map to show these areas.

Taiwan's defence ministry said it detected 38 Chinese aircraft, including a TB-001 drone nicknamed the "twin-tailed scorpion", around the island between 6 am (1000 GMT) Thursday and 6 am Friday.&nbsp;

The defence ministry added that 19 of the aircraft had "crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait or entered Taiwan's southwest, southeast, and northeast (air defence identification zone)", or ADIZ, the highest number of incursions since China ended three days of war games earlier this month.

ADIZ is not the same as Taiwan's territorial airspace. It includes a much larger area that overlaps with part of China's own ADIZ and even some of the mainland.

The TB-001 is one of the largest drones in China's arsenal and boasts a flight range of 6,000 kilometres (3,700 miles).&nbsp;

The drone was previously deployed by China during the military drills which ended on April 10. These drills involved simulating targeted strikes and a blockade intended to be aimed at Taiwan.

The war games were a response to Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen's visit to the United States, where she met Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy.

Separately, the Chinese military said it sent fighter jets to track a US reconnaissance plane as it flew through the Taiwan Strait on Friday.

An Iranian official has said that country's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) has successfully tested a long-range, high-precision kamikaze drone loaded with a 50 kg warhead. The drone has reportedly been developed by Iran.

Iranian military drones are slowly becoming topic of discussion across the world. The Islamic republic has made significant progress in this area in past few years. The country is currently producing drones capable of carrying out a wide range of missions.

Iran successfully tests homemade kamikaze drone: Report

North Korea claims to have conducted another test of a nuclear-capable underwater attack drone, reported the state media, on Saturday (April 8). The drone in question was the so-called ‘Haeil-2’ which was Pyongyang’s third test and follows the new underwater drone system dubbed ‘Haeil-1’, which translates to “tsunami” in Korean and was unveiled on March 23.&nbsp;

According to reports, the nuclear-capable underwater attack drone is designed to destroy naval vessels and ports. The reports of the four-day test also came a day after nuclear envoys of the United States, South Korea and Japan met in Seoul to discuss the growing North Korean nuclear threat and called for a crackdown on the country’s illicit activities to procure funding for its weapons systems.

The test is also being called North Korea's&nbsp;latest show of force against the United States and South Korea which have been conducting a series of annual spring military exercises in the Korean Peninsula since March. The North Korean state media, Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that the underwater strategic weapon system test took place between April 4 and April 7.&nbsp;

The drone cruised 1,000 km of underwater distance for 71 hours and six minutes and successfully hit a simulated target. “The test perfectly proved the reliability of the underwater strategic weapon system and its fatal attack ability,” said the KCNA.&nbsp;

So far, Pyongyang has claimed to have conducted three tests of underwater drones in less than three weeks with the first test on March 23 which was reportedly able to unleash a “radioactive tsunami”. At the time, the state media said the drone cruised underwater for 59 hours and 12 minutes before detonation.&nbsp;

Around five days or so later, North Korea claimed that it conducted a second test with the Haiel drone system. Meanwhile, South Korean Defence Minister Lee Jong-sup told MPs that Seoul was “capable of monitoring and detecting such drones infiltrating underwater”.&nbsp;

However, analysts have remained sceptical about whether the underwater vehicle is ready for deployment and would add a meaningful new threat to North Korea’s growing nuclear arsenal. Similarly, South Korea’s military has said it believes North Korean claims about Haeil-1 were likely “exaggerated or fabricated.”

The drone in question was the so-called ‘Haeil-2’ which was Pyongyang’s third test and follows the new underwater drone system dubbed ‘Haeil-1’, which translates to “tsunami” in Korean and was unveiled on March 23.

The test is also being called North Korea's latest show of force against the United States and South Korea which have been conducting a series of annual spring military exercises in the Korean Peninsula since March. The North Korean state media, Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that the underwater strategic weapon system test took place between April 4 and April 7. The drone cruised 1,000 km of underwater distance for 71 hours and six minutes and successfully hit a simulated target. “The test perfectly proved the reliability of the underwater strategic weapon system and its fatal attack ability,” said the KCNA. However, Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi said&nbsp;"for&nbsp;now, I cannot confirm this as it needs more investigation" when asked by Iranian media about the report during a press conference.

Iran has in past blamed Israel for such attacks, &nbsp;including a drone attack on a military factory near Isfahan in January. Israel has neither confirmed nor denied responsibility for the attacks.

The report of the latest drone attack on an Iranian complex has come just days after an Israeli airstrike in Syria hit Iran-linked targets. At least two Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) members were killed. These Iranian troops were serving as military advisors in Syria.

In January, a Ministry of Defence industrial centre was also targeted by a drone attack, which Iran said was unsuccessful and perpetrated by "mercenaries of the Zionist regime".

This area falls under Vijaypur thana of Samba district. We will investigate and see who the arms and ammunition was being handed over to, '' said Surinder Chaudhary, Additional SP Samba.

Security forces say new techniques and technology are being used to tackle the issue of these payloads with the help of anti-drone equipment.

''As I said, the threat keeps evolving and the enemy also tries to evolve and come up with new things, so sticky bomb is nothing new and perfume IED is something which has come up, my point is whenever such threat emerges, all the stakeholders sit and put their heads together to neutralise that threat before it can do any damage, we also evolve our own SOPs as to how to deal with such situation on the ground. We also try to train and brief our Jawans as to who will be responding on the ground. How to tackle such an emerging threat. It's important to brief it down the line to the last man on the ground so that he is aware of the threat and can neutralise it, '' said M S Bhatia, IG CPRF (Kashmir Operations).

A Chinese-made commercial drone said to be weaponised, called Mugin-5, was shot down by the Ukrainian military in the eastern part of the country over the weekend.

The wreckage of the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) — made by a Chinese manufacturer based in the eastern port city of Xiamen — was found near the city of Sloviansk, eastern Ukraine.

Known as the “Alibaba drones”, tech bloggers say they are available for sale for up to $15,000 on Chinese marketplace websites, including Alibaba and Taobao.

Mugin Limited, the company which manufactures the drone, confirmed that it belongs to them, and called the incident “deeply unfortunate”.

Though it is unclear whether it was used for snooping but reports alleged that it had no camera. CNN claimed that the drone was retrofitted with 20 kg&nbsp;bomb, which was later detonated by Ukrainian soldiers.

This incident marks the latest example of a civilian drone being retrofitted and weaponised since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, indicating the rapidly shifting patterns of warfare.

The incident was reported overnight Friday into Saturday, when the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) were alerted by their agents based in Russian-held territory of a UAV being launched from there and heading towards a Ukrainian target, according to CNN.

"This particular drone that we’ve been looking at would be much more effective if it had a decent camera in it. This seems to be a very crude, unsophisticated, not very technologically&nbsp;advanced way of conducting operations,” Chris Lincoln-Jones, a specialist in drone warfare, was quoted as saying by CNN.

Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin on Wednesday vowed that United States will fly its aircraft "wherever international law allows" and warned Russia it must operate with caution, after an American drone was allegedly crashed by one of the Russian fighter jets.

The statement was made by Austin shortly after he spoke with his Russian counterpart Sergei Shoigu over the phone about the incident that took place over the Black Sea on Tuesday when two Russian fighters allegedly hit an unmanned US surveillance drone and its propeller was damaged.

The incident was labelled by the United States as "reckless" and "unprofessional" while Moscow refuted the allegations and Washington was instead accused of conducting "hostile" flights in the region.

"The United States will continue to fly and to operate wherever international law allows," said Austin while speaking to reporters after the call with Shoigu. "And it is incumbent upon Russia to operate its military aircraft in a safe and professional manner," he added.

US Joint Chiefs Chairman Mark Milley said that the video and the data retrieved from the drone are still being analysed by the Pentagon to see what exactly happened.

"Was it intentional or not? - don't know yet. We know that the intercept was intentional. We know that the aggressive behaviour was intentional, we also know it was very unprofessional and very unsafe," said Milley.

"The actual contact of the fixed-wing Russian fighter with our UAV, the physical contact with those two, not sure yet,” he added.

Appreciating the call, Austin said, “We take any potential for escalation very seriously and that's why I believe it's important to keep the lines of communication open.”

"I think it's really key that we're able to pick up the phone and engage each other. And I think that will help to prevent miscalculation going forward,” he added.

"Russia is not interested in such a development of events, but it will continue to respond proportionately to all provocations,” it added.

Earlier in the day, Moscow said that the wreckage of a US military drone will be retrieved by the officials.

In televised remarks, Russian Security Council secretary Nikolai Patrushev said that Moscow would retrieve the wreckage of the downed craft but remained unsure if they would achieve success. "But it has to be done. And we will certainly work on it," he stated.

The Russian defence ministry on Tuesday said it scrambled fighter jets after detecting a US drone flying over the Black Sea. It, however, refuted Washington's allegations of crashing it into the sea.

"As a result of a sharp manoeuvre... the MQ-9 unmanned aerial vehicle entered an uncontrolled flight with the loss of altitude and collided with the surface of the water," stated the ministry. It further said its fighter jets "did not use their on-board weapons, made no contact with the UAV."

US summons Russian envoy

The Russian ambassador was summoned by the United States to protest the crash of the American drone on Tuesday over the Black Sea after it collided with a Russian warplane, the State Department said.

Ryder said that the crashed drone has not been recovered by Russia. The Pentagon said that the drone's propeller was struck by one of the Russian Su-27 jets, making it inoperable.

Chi Li-Pin, director of Aeronautical Systems Research Division for NCSIST, is also siding with the strategy to acquire more drones to enhance the country's military coffers.&nbsp;

"I hope our national troops can familiarise themselves with this weapon of asymmetric warfare and use them boldly," Chi told media personnel at an NCSIST facility in the central city of Taichung. Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen is also pushing for making the nation ready for "asymmetric warfare".
