They were excavated between 2008-2013 in the US states of Montana and Wyoming. The discovery was made last year by local archaeologist Marie Woods as she stumbled upon the more than three feet long (80 centimetres), three-toed footprint which is the largest of its kind found in east Yorkshire county which is also known as the “Dinosaur Coast”. The findings of the discovery were published in the journal of Proceedings of the Yorkshire Geological Society on Thursday.&nbsp;

“I couldn’t believe what I was looking at, I had to do a double take. I have seen a few smaller prints when out with friends, but nothing like this. I can no longer say that ‘archaeologists don’t do dinosaurs’,”&nbsp;said Woods, in a statement. Notably, the Yorkshire coast where the discovery was made, is known for producing a number of fossils over the years including thousands of dinosaur footprints.&nbsp;

The now co-author of the study stumbled upon the fossil in April 2021 at Burniston Bay, about five kilometres north of Scarborough in the UK. Subsequently, she contacted her friend Dr Dean Lomax, a palaeontologist at The University of Manchester and the co-author of the new paper, who as per CNN initially thought that Woods was joking.&nbsp;

The author of the ‘Dinosaurs of the British Isles’ called it a "wonderful find" and&nbsp;in a statement said, “Not only does this specimen represent the largest theropod footprint found in Yorkshire, but by studying the angle of the footprint, its shape, and the impressions of the claws, the fossil provides insights into the behaviour of this individual from around 166 million years ago.”&nbsp;

He added, “In fact, features of the footprint may even suggest that this large predator was squatting down before standing up. It’s fun to think this dinosaur might well have been strolling along a muddy coastal plain one lazy Sunday afternoon in the Jurassic.” After the discovery, the duo moved quickly to secure the Jurassic Period specimen and along with three fossil collectors carefully transported it to the Scarborough Museum and Galleries.&nbsp;

The specimen was donated to the aforementioned museum by Woods and a “local fossil hunter” as well as the co-author of the new study, Rob Taylor. Notably, the fossil hunter in light of the discovery, realised that he had actually spotted the tracks five months earlier, however, since it was not completely exposed at the time, the full extent and importance of the footprint went unnoticed.&nbsp;

“This is only the sixth specimen of this type recorded from the Cleveland Basin since they were first discovered in 1934”, the authors noted in the recently published paper. The researchers also believe that the footprint belongs to a carnivorous Megalosaurus-like creature which was at least 8.2 to 9.8 feet tall at the hips, said lead author and geologist John Hudson. The study also attributed the “elongated metapodium” (rear section of the dinosaur’s foot) to a crouching or resting behaviour.&nbsp;

“This important discovery adds further evidence that meat-eating giants once roamed this area during the Jurassic,” said Hudson. According to Lomax, named in 1824, Megalosaurus was the world’s first official dinosaur after its bones were discovered in England’s Oxfordshire county. The dinosaur was also reportedly one of the largest predators of its time with a large skull, sharp teeth, and at least 26.2 to 29.5 feet in length.&nbsp;

It’s fun to think this dinosaur might well have been strolling along a muddy coastal plain one lazy Sunday afternoon in the Jurassic.” After the discovery, the duo moved quickly to secure the Jurassic Period specimen and along with three fossil collectors carefully transported it to the Scarborough Museum and Galleries. The specimen was donated to the aforementioned museum by Woods and a “local fossil hunter” as well as the co-author of the new study, Rob Taylor. The researchers also believe that the footprint belongs to a carnivorous Megalosaurus-like creature which was at least 8.2 to 9.8 feet tall at the hips, said lead author and geologist John Hudson. The study also attributed the “elongated metapodium” (rear section of the dinosaur’s foot) to a crouching or resting behaviour. “This important discovery adds further evidence that meat-eating giants once roamed this area during the Jurassic,” said Hudson. According to Lomax, named in 1824, Megalosaurus was the world’s first official dinosaur after its bones were discovered in England’s Oxfordshire county. The dinosaur was also reportedly one of the largest predators of its time with a large skull, sharp teeth, and at least 26.2 to 29.5 feet in length. Sauropods are generally up to 110 feet long and weigh more than 90 tonnes, but the situation was not the same in Dolly's case. She weighed about 20 tonnes and was only 40 feet long, and bony growth in her vertebra was an indication of a possible infection.&nbsp;

Dolly's infection, a symptomatic of pneumonia, has since then been compared to an illness that is found in both birds and reptiles. It is called aspergillosis and can spread to animals' bones.

There is a strong possibility that the Titanosaurs either travelled to this area of the Narmada Valley particularly to deposit the eggs or that the eggs were also hatched there. The eggs they discovered showed signs of both hatching and not having been hatched, according to lead researcher Dhiman. He said that no bones had been discovered and that a micro CT scan was necessary for further investigation.

The nests that were found in the Narmada valley were close together. These dinosaurs laid eggs that were between 15 and 17 centimetres in diameter. Each nest, according to Dhiman, had one to twenty eggs.

Scientists have made an amazing discovery. In an inhospitable valley in the Chilean Patagonia, they have come across the remains of four species of dinosaurs. The fossils which were discovered and transported to a laboratory in 2021, as per researchers, belong to species that have previously not been identified in the area.&nbsp;

Chilean Antarctic Institute (Inach), in collaboration with the University of Chile and the University of Texas, made this discovery on an expedition.&nbsp;

Talking to AFP, Marcelo Leppe, director of Inach, said, "It’s always super exciting in scientific terms to find something that has not previously been discovered or described."

As per the findings, the dinosaur species, which includes a megaraptor, inhabited the area at the end of the Cretaceous period, between 66 and 75 million years ago.&nbsp;

Interestingly, the megaraptor belongs to the theropod family, of which the famous T-Rex is also a member. These carnivorous dinosaurs were at the top of the food chain and were equipped with raptor claws, small teeth for tearing their prey, and large upper limbs.

You would think that given that the very first evidence of dinosaurs was found in the early 1600s, we would know almost everything there is to know about them.&nbsp;

However, that's far from the truth: we are still finding surprising and fascinating discoveries that add to our knowledge. For example, a scientist recently spotted an extremely rare find that tells us more about what these beasts ate; this time it's a mammal on the menu.

In the first such find of the 21st century Hans Larsson, a professor of biology at McGill University’s Redpath Museum in Montreal while visiting a museum collection in China, spotted a mammal's foot preserved inside the fossilised guts of a Microraptor zhaoianus.

This is only the 21st known example of a fossilised dinosaur and its last meal. The fossil was discovered in the early 2000s in Liaoning in northeastern China.

The Microraptor zhaoianus was a small, up to three metres long feathered therapod, i.e. a small dinosaur that walked on two legs.

"At first, I couldn’t believe it. There was a tiny rodent-like mammal foot about a centimetre (0.4 inches) long perfectly preserved inside a Microraptor skeleton," said Larsson, as per a CNN report.

He added that finds like these are the only "solid evidence" researchers have about the food consumption of these long-extinct animals and that even these finds are very rare.

Extremely rare evidence of dinosaurs consuming mammals spotted

Scientists have unearthed the fossil of a bizarre creature in China dating back to 120 million years that has the head of a dinosaur and the body of a bird, further complicating the debate whether birds are the descendants of dinosaurs.

The fossil was excavated in northern China, and the scientists believe that this discovery would provide significant insights into the evolution of modern birds.

The creature named Cratonavis zhui had long shoulder blades and claws, and its large skull was almost identical to Tyrannosaurus rex and other meat-eating theropods, according to the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The CAS researchers studied the fossil by scanning the skull with high-resolution computed tomography (CT) scanning.

Using the digital versions of the mineralized bones, they reconstructed the shape and function of the skull as it was during the bird's life.

The result showed that the shape of the&nbsp;Cratonavis skull was similar to that of T-rex and not like birds.

In the avian branch of the dinosaur’s family tree, Cratonavis comes between the long-tailed&nbsp;Archaeopteryx, which was more like a reptile, and the&nbsp;Ornithothoraces, whose characteristics can be found in modern birds.

"The primitive cranial features speak to the fact that most Cretaceous birds such as&nbsp;Cratonavis&nbsp;could not move their upper bill independently with respect to the braincase and lower jaw, a functional innovation widely distributed among living birds that contribute to their enormous ecological diversity," CAS palaeontologist Zhiheng Li said, co-author of the study, said in a statement.

Co-author of the study Wang Min said that the peculiar nature of the scapula (bone in the shoulder) allowed Cratonavis to better rotate its wing, compensating for its underdeveloped flight capabilities.

Dr Espen Knutsen, the senior curator of palaeontology at the Queensland Museum, said that a discovery like this is extremely rare and further tests will be conducted on the remains. While Elasmosaur skulls have been found, this is the first instance where it was connected to the body.

The Elasmosaur were around eight metres in length, according to existing research.

“A lot of it is neck,” Knutsen told The Guardian.

“At least half, if not two-thirds of the entire body length [of an Elasmosaur] is mostly neck.”

While the remains were found in good condition, the experts believed the creature was “bitten into half” by some kind of an apex predator – their guess being a Kronosaur. That will be the working theory for the scientists as they look to understand the creatures of that time period.

The Patagonian mayorum was found in 2010 when a ranch owner in Patagonia (Argentina) noticed a huge thigh bone sticking out of the ground. Fossil experts in Argentina soon examined the site and unearthed more than 200 bones.

“They were herbivores that gobbled up plants and leaves and fermented them in their vast stomachs, producing huge amounts of methane as a byproduct – so you would not want to hang around the back end of one of these animals,” Barrett said as quoted by The Guardian.

"Dinosaurs died out, because they could not withstand massive changes to the climate. That is also threatening us," added the 34-year-old.

The other campaigner, Solvig Schinkoethe, expressed concern about the effects of climate change as a mother of four children.

"Peaceful resistance is the way we have chosen to protect our children from the deadly ignorance of governments," said the 42-year-old.

They urged the Berlin government to act quickly to reduce emissions, such as by imposing a speed restriction on highways and adopting more reasonably priced public transportation.&nbsp;

According to the museum, authorities ended the issue in under an hour. It stated in a statement that there was property damage and that criminal charges had been brought.&nbsp;

However, experts and palaeontologists say that the archaeological find belongs in a museum and not some rich guy's living room.

The skeleton is believed to be of an iguanodon dinosaur and it measures about four feet (1.3 metres) tall and 9.8 feet (three metres) long, making it small enough to fit in a run-of-the-mill living room. But is it appropriate to showcase such a scientific discovery as a trophy?&nbsp;

Palaeontologist Steve Brusatte, who works with the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, disagrees. It's "much more than just ornaments for the rich to put in their living rooms,"&nbsp;he said while talking to Daily Mail.

Speaking to Daily Mail, he said that although he is not an expert on ornithopod dinosaurs, auction houses "shouldn't be in the business of selling things they know nothing about" if they "can't even identify the fossil correctly."

In recent times, Dinosaur bones have gone from being the subject of research to expensive art pieces. Once they were almost exclusively purchased by museums for reasonable prices are now sold to the highest bidder for millions.

Auctioneer Alexandre Giquello, while talking to Reuters said that the specimen, known as "Zephyr," is the perfect size for a one-of-a-kind piece of home décor. It is estimated to sell for between 400,000 and 500,000 euros ($495,000).

The dinosaur, which Italian palaeontologists partially reconstructed, was found in Moffat County, Colorado in 2019 when road construction was taking place on private property. Little is known about the dinosaur's journey from the earth to the Paris auction house.

Christopher Griffin, the researcher who found the first bone, told AFP on Thursday that the creature "ran around on two legs and had a fairly small head."&nbsp;

According to Griffin, a 31-year-old researcher at Yale University, the dinosaur belonged to the sauropodomorph species, the same linage that would eventually include huge long-necked dinosaurs. It was likely an omnivore that consumed plants, small animals, and insects.

During two expeditions in 2017 and 2019, a group of researchers from Zimbabwe, Zambia, and the United States discovered the skeleton.&nbsp;

Griffin, a PhD candidate at Virginia Tech University at the time, recalled, "I dug out the full femur and I knew at that instant, that it was a dinosaur and I was holding Africa's earliest known dinosaur fossil."&nbsp;

The research done by his team was initially released in the journal Nature on Wednesday.&nbsp;

Only South America and India had previously yielded dinosaur fossils from the same time period.

The palaeontologists chose the Zimbabwe site for digging after determining that it lay roughly at the same latitude as earlier discoveries in present-day South America when all the continents were linked in a land mass known as Pangea.&nbsp;

According to Max Langer of the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil, "Mbiresaurus raathi is remarkably similar to some dinosaurs of the same age found in Brazil and Argentina, reinforcing that South America and Africa were part of a continuous landmass during the Late Triassic."&nbsp;

The skeleton's location in Zimbabwe's northeastern Mbire district and palaeontologist Michael Raath, who discovered the area's first fossils, is honoured by the name of the dinosaur.

When the property owner in the city of Pombal found pieces of fossilised bone in the yard and called scientists from the University of Lisbon, an excavation operation in the area began in 2017.

The vertebrae and ribs of what Spanish and Portuguese palaeontologists believe to be a brachiosaurid sauropod have been discovered at the site earlier this month.

The largest living land animal, and the largest of all dinosaurs, was the sauropod.

As per the size of the bones discovered in the yard, the dinosaur was 12 metres tall and 25 metres long, The Guardian reported.

Researchers are hopeful that additional excavation will turn up more pieces of the same dinosaur because of the skeleton’s natural posture.

The skeleton was discovered in Upper Jurassic sedimentary strata, indicating a 150-million-year age range.

The Guardian reported that Malafaia further said, "[This discovery] confirms that the region of Pombal has an important fossil record of Late Jurassic vertebrates, which in the last decades has provided the discovery of abundant materials very significant for the knowledge of the continental faunas that inhabited the Iberian Peninsula at about 145m years ago."

It is believed that the sauropod group, which includes brontosaurus and diplodocus, consisted of herbivorous animals with long necks and four legs.

A severe drought in Texas that dried up a river has uncovered dinosaur tracks from around 113 million years at Dinosaur Valley State Park in Glen Rose, southwest of Dallas, officials have said.

Officials said that the Paluxy River that runs through the park dried up in several areas exposing the tracks. It is usually underwater and commonly filled with sediment, rendering them invisible when the river is full of water.

“Due to the excessive drought conditions this past summer, the river dried up completely in most locations, allowing for more tracks to be uncovered here in the park," Stephanie Salinas Garcia of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department told AFP, adding that dry weather has made the tracks visible.

"Under normal river conditions, these newer tracks are underwater and are commonly filled in with sediment, making them buried and not as visible," she added.

According to reports, the tracks were made by Acrocanthosaurus, which weighed nearly seven tons (6,350 kilograms) as an adult and stood 15 feet (4.5 meters) tall. And another dinosaur, Sauroposeidon, which measured 60 feet tall and weighed 44 tons in adulthood.

The park was once on the edge of an ancient ocean, and dinosaurs left footprints in the mud, according to its website.

However, the exciting discovery is not expected to last long as the rain is in the forecast. Therefore, the recently discovered tracks will be covered underwater once more.

According to the US Drought Monitor, over 60 per cent of Texas was experiencing drought last week.

A new asteroid crater has been found approximately 400km off the coast of Guinea in Western Africa which could be the dinosaur killer's baby cousin.

Scientists&nbsp;believe that the asteroid created an impact crater with a diameter of 8.5km more than 300m below the seabed.

Dr Uisdean Nicholson from Heriot-Watt University identified the hidden depression when he was analysing seismic survey data to better understand past climatic changes on Earth.

Recording the different layers of rock and sediment underground, the surveys are frequently obtained by oil and gas prospectors.

Nicholson told BBC that "Nadir's shape is diagnostic of an asteroid impact. It's got a raised rim surrounding a central uplift area, and then layers of debris that extend outwards."

When an asteroid slammed into what is now the Gulf of Mexico 66 million years ago it wiped out dinosaurs and this particular study has raised the question of whether the Earth was bombarded on that terrible day by more than one space rock.

Throwing dusty material into the sky, the asteroid that created the Chicxulub Crater in the Gulf of Mexico is estimated to have been about 12km across.

Dr Veronica Bray from the University of Arizona said, "Our simulations suggest this crater was caused by the collision of a 400m-wide asteroid in 500-800m of water."

Amid speculation that the impactor that created Boltysh Crater in Ukraine may also be related to the Chicxulub, Nicholson's team has to be cautious about tying it to Nadir.

Highlighting the possibility that Nadir might have struck the planet a million or two years on either side of the Mexican cataclysm, professor Sean Gulick said that to find out whether they are the same or not the rocks from the west African crater are inspected in the lab.

We all know how dinosaurs perished. A huge asteroid zoomed through space and slammed into Earth in what is now Mexico. The huge tsunamis followed by massive amount of dust obscuring even the Sun had devastating impact on life on Earth and among the major species to perish were dinosaurs.

Almost everyone who has slightest interest in history of life knows this. But a latest observation points at the possibility of the killer asteroid (named Chicxulub) may have been accompanied by a smaller asteroid. If the observation and the hypothesis is accepted, it will update our&nbsp;knowledge of pre-history.

The scientific study has been published in scientific journal Science Advances.

“The idea that [Chicxulub] had help — for want of a better phrase — would have really added insult to serious injury,” says study coauthor Veronica Bray. She is a planetary scientist at the University of Arizona in Tucson.

The impact crater due to this asteroid is 8 km wide and has been buried hundreds of metres below the sea off the coast of west Africa.

He observed a bowl-shaped structure that had a broken-up, terraced floor and a central peak that was pronounced. These are features of a large impact.&nbsp;

Unlike Chicxulub, scientist think that this particular asteroid did not have a huge global impact. Chicxulub asteroid caused tsunamis measuring hundreds of metres in height and kicked up massive amount of dust. This second asteroid is not considered to have caused such a catastrophic effect.

An international team of paleontologists has found a single footprint left by a cat-sized dinosaur some 100 million years ago in China. Dr Anthony Romilio, a researcher at the University of Queensland, was a member of the team that looked into the track after it was discovered by Associate Professor Lida Xing of the China University of Geosciences, Beijing.

Dr Romilio said, "This footprint was made by a herbivorous, armoured dinosaur known broadly as a stegosaur — the family of dinosaurs that includes the famed stegosaurus. Like the stegosaurus, this little dinosaur probably had spikes on its tail and bony plates along its back as an adult."

This is the tiniest known footprint of a stegosaur, measuring less than six centimetres. It stands in stark contrast to other stegosaur prints discovered at the Chinese track site, which reached a maximum length of 30 centimetres, and prints discovered in locations like Broome, Western Australia, where they can reach a maximum length of 80 centimetres.

On all fours, like modern stegosaurs, they often walked with their heels on the ground, leaving behind long imprints. The minute footprints reveal that, like modern birds and cats, this dinosaur had been moving with its heel elevated off the ground.

"We've only previously seen shortened tracks like this when dinosaurs walked on two legs," Dr Romilio added.&nbsp;

Palaeontologists have discovered a small armour-plated&nbsp;dinosaur&nbsp;in Argentina belonging to the Cretaceous period.

The announcement was made in the journal Scientific Reports&nbsp;as researchers found Jakapil kaniukura which is a small thyreophoran dinosaur estimated to be&nbsp;less than 1.5 meters in length and&nbsp;weighing 4.5–7 kg.

"The discovery of Jakapil in Argentina shows a completely new thyreophoran lineage for the southern hemisphere," it said. The fossilised animal was dug up in Argentina's Río Negro province near a dam.

There are four distinct dinosaur species represented by the prints, none of which have been given names. The experts speculate that one of the fossils may belong to a species that hasn't yet been identified. Both herbivores and carnivores can be seen in the collection of these footprints. According to SCMP, the carnivores were smaller, measuring only four to five metres, while the herbivores could grow to lengths of over 15 metres.&nbsp;

Scientists theorised that the area may have drawn dinosaurs due to its availability of water and trees during the time of the dinosaurs. With some vegetation, the area is presently a high, stony grassland.

"There is no need to panic about the strains and mutation as it`s a completely natural and unavoidable process. Covid appropriate behaviour and accepting vaccines remains the solution for any strain," Harshal R Salve, Associate Professor at Centre for Community Medicine, All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), New Delhi, told IANS. 
 
Also, they are hopeful that the present vaccines available may help us protect against the recently reported variant too. 
 
"There is a strong possibility that the vaccine may be effective in protecting against a new variant," said Neha Gupta, Infectious Diseases Specialist at Medanta - The Medicity Gurgaon. 
 
This week, the Union Health Ministry said that a total of 771 variants of concerns (VOCs) have been detected in a total of 10,787 positive samples shared by the states and union territories, including a new double mutant variant. 
 
These include 736 samples positive for viruses of the UK (B.1.1.7) lineage, 34 samples of the South African (B.1.351) lineage and one sample of the Brazilian (P.1) lineage. 
 
"Though VOCs and a new double mutant variant have been found in India, these have not been detected in numbers sufficient to either establish or direct relationship or explain the rapid increase in cases in some states," the Health Ministry said. 
 
The government said that an analysis of the samples collected from Maharashtra showed "an increase in the fraction of samples with the E484Q and L452R mutations" compared with December last year. 
 
"Such (double) mutations confer immune escape and increased infectivity," the health ministry said in a statement. 
 
These mutations have been found in about 15-20 per cent of samples and do not match any previously catalogued VOCs. 
 
These have been categorised as VOCs but require the same epidemiological and public health response of `increased testing, comprehensive tracking of close contacts, prompt isolation of positive cases and contacts as well as treatment as per National Treatment Protocol" by the states and Union Territories, according to the Health Ministry. 
 
According to Jeremy Kamil, a virologist at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center Shreveport in the US, the E484Q is similar to E484K -- a mutation seen in the B.1.351 (South Africa) and P.1 (Brazil) variants, the BBC reported on Thursday. 
 
India reported 59,118 coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, the highest single-day spike since October 2020, taking the total tally to 1,18,46,652 on Friday. Cases have been increasing by leaps and bounds for the past two weeks.

Makovicky said its arms were two feet long, "so it's literally half the length of the skull and the animal would not have been able to reach its mouth."

Although Meraxes gigas resembles T-rex it, the latter did not tiny arms from the former as the two species were far apart on the evolutionary tree.&nbsp;

Taking on the function that forelimbs would have had in smaller species, Makovicky believes that as their heads grew larger, it became the dominant tool of their predatory arsenal.

Scientists said on Thursday (June 9) that a giant crocodile-faced meat-eating dinosaur has been discovered on the Isle of Wight by one of Britain's best fossil hunters. As per the experts, it was probably the largest predator ever to stalk Europe and prowled what is now England roughly 125 million years ago. Most of the bones of the two-legged spinosaurid were found by the late local collector Nick Chase.&nbsp;

Parts of the skeleton were found including bones of the back, hips and tail, some limb fragments but no skull or teeth. In a study published in the journal PeerJ Life &amp; Environment, it has been revealed that the researchers at the University of Southampton used the few bones available to identify what they have called the "White Rock spinosaurid".&nbsp;

Chris Barker, a PhD student who led the study, said: "This was a huge animal, exceeding 10 metres (33 feet) in length and judging from some of the dimensions, probably represents the largest predatory dinosaur ever found in Europe."&nbsp;

So far, the researchers have not yet given the newly described dinosaur a scientific name because the remains were incomplete. However, they are calling the giant dinosaur the "White Rock spinosaurid".&nbsp;

"Our conclusions are in keeping with previous studies that emphasise western Europe as a pivotal region within spinosaurid origination and diversification," the study noted.&nbsp;

Thomas Richard Holtz, a vertebrate palaeontologist from the University of Maryland said that the new find "does seem to be larger" than a huge predator whose fossilised remains were discovered in Portugal. Holtz is not involved in the study.&nbsp;

Parts of the skeleton were found including bones of the back, hips and tail, some limb fragments but no skull or teeth. In a study published in the journal PeerJ Life & Environment, it has been revealed that the researchers at the University of Southampton used the few bones available to identify what they have called the "White Rock spinosaurid". Chris Barker, a PhD student who led the study, said: "This was a huge animal, exceeding 10 metres (33 feet) in length and judging from some of the dimensions, probably represents the largest predatory dinosaur ever found in Europe." So far, the researchers have not yet given the newly described dinosaur a scientific name because the remains were incomplete. However, they are calling the giant dinosaur the "White Rock spinosaurid". A diagram shows fossil remains of a meat-eating dinosaur dubbed the "White Rock spinosaurid," dating from about 125 million years ago during the Cretaceous Period, unearthed on England?s Isle of Wight. The study revealed that a combination of features suggests that this is a member of Spinosauridae. Although, there's a lack of convincing autapomorphies that precludes the identification of a new taxon. It further added that this is the first spinosaurid reported from the Vectis Formation and the youngest British material referred to in the clade. "Our conclusions are in keeping with previous studies that emphasise western Europe as a pivotal region within spinosaurid origination and diversification," the study noted. Thomas Richard Holtz, a vertebrate palaeontologist from the University of Maryland said that the new find "does seem to be larger" than a huge predator whose fossilised remains were discovered in Portugal.
