"Whatever Dhoni does, it is in the best interest of the team. I got to know of the decision just before the captains' meeting. You have to respect his decision, it is his call," CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan told PTI.

Upon getting picked by CSK during the maiden IPL auction in 2008 for over a million dollars, MS Dhoni captained the side for 14 years, leading the franchise to five IPL titles, joint-most with Mumbai Indians in the tournament history.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were looking at a fresh start ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 when MS Dhoni decided to hand over the captaincy baton to Ravindra Jadeja. However, the star all-rounder failed to inspire the defending champions to a good start as they managed only two wins in their first eight games of the season.

Jadeja decided to step down as captain after CSK's disastrous start to their campaign and handed over the reins back to Dhoni. Sehwag also pointed out Gaikwad leads his state side &nbsp;Maharashtra in the domestic circuit and has similar qualities to Dhoni. Gaikwad was one of the four players retained by CSK ahead of IPL 2022 after his stunning campaign last year where he finished as the highest run-getter and bagged the Orange Cap.

"He (Ruturaj Gaikwad) captains Maharashtra. He plays very quietly. It's like even if he scored a century, it won't show in his mannerisms. Even if he scores a 0, you will see the same demeanour. It doesn't appear from his face if he is happy about scoring a hundred or sad about getting out for a duck. He has control, he is calm. He has all the qualities needed to be a good captain," Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

The 38-year-old whose future as a sportsman in this game has been a subject of intense speculation since the ICC 50-over World Cup of 2019, is expected to begin preparing at the M A Chidambaram stadium for the upcoming IPL. CEO of the cricket team, KS Viswanathan stated that Dhoni will be training with players who are available as the full preparatory camp of the team begins on March 19. Practice sessions for the former India captain are expected to last for a couple of weeks with the likes of Suresh Raina and Ambati Rayudu among others. This is reported to provide the veteran stumper opportunities to bond with the new players in the CSK set-up.
