<p>By January 6, 2021, although it was clear that Trump had lost the election, he technically still was US president since current President Joe Biden had not formally taken charge.</p>

<p>This is not the first time an immunity claim has been made. Just last month, US District Judge Tanya Chutkan rejected immunity saying that even a former president can't have a "lifelong 'get-out-of-jail-free' pass." Chutkan will preside over the election-related trial against Trump.</p>

The Gyanvapi dispute is related to the Gyanvapi Mosque located in Varanasi in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, adjacent to the Kashi Vishwanath Temple.</p>

<p>This historical and religious dispute over the contentious premises is over the question of whether the mosque was constructed over a pre-existing Hindu temple or not.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Allahabad High Court had earlier upheld a Varanasi district court order, directing the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to conduct a scientific survey to determine the historical context of the site.</p>

<p>The latest decision came in response to the ASI's plea seeking three more weeks to assimilate information from various experts and generate a detailed report. District Judge A K Vishvesh expressed hope that this extension would be the final one during a hearing attended by counsel Madan Mohan Yadav, representing the Hindu side.</p>

<p>New Jersey Democratic Senator&nbsp;Bob Menendez along with his wife on Friday (September 22) faced charges of corruption-related offences for the second time in a time span of 10 years.<br />

Menendez, along with his wife Nadine Arslanian Menendez, have been accused of accepting “hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes” in exchange for the influence of the senator, as per the newly unsealed federal indictment.<br />

As per prosecutors, the bribes accepted by the couple included gold, cash, compensation for a “low-or-no-show job”, home mortgage payments and a luxury vehicle. Meanwhile, Will Hana, Jose Uribe and Fred Daibes also faced the charges.<br />
<br />
This is the second set of corruption charges levied by the Justice Department against Menendez in a decade.<br />
<br />
Previously, the senator fought off honest services fraud, bribery and corruption charges which were related to the alleged personal favours taken by him.</p>

<p>A Belgian court on Friday (September 15) sentenced eight men to prison for their&nbsp; involvement in the twin bomb blasts that killed 32 people in the capital city of Belgium in 2016, the local media reported.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Six men convicted of murder and attempted murder for their role&nbsp;in the bombings were handed sentences ranging from 20 years to life in jail.&nbsp;</p>

<p>French citizen Salah Abdeslam and Belgian-Moroccan Mohamed Abrini, already given a life sentence by France for a&nbsp;2015 massacre in Paris, were the highest-profile of six culprits found guilty of murder last month.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Belgian court said&nbsp;Abdeslam's prison sentence was enough and he did not receive a further sentence.&nbsp;He was seized in Brussels four days before the Belgian attacks, after fleeing the French capital.</p>

<p>Meanwhile,&nbsp;Abrini, who fled the airport without detonating the bomb and testified the same during the proceedings was found guilty of being in one of the teams of the suicide bombers and handed a 30-year jail term.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Krayem, who is from Sweden, was accused of planning to be a second bomber on the Brussels&nbsp;metro. He was found guilty of murder along with defendants Ali El Haddad Asufi and Bilal El Makhoukhi and handed a life sentence.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Osama Atar, who is believed to have been killed in an air strike in Syria, was convicted in absentia of masterminding the attacks.&nbsp;</p>

<p>An aide to former U.S. President Donald Trump appeared in Miami federal court on Monday to face charges he tried to help the former president hide secret documents taken upon leaving office. Carlos De Oliveira, the property manager of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, did not enter a plea as he has yet to obtain local counsel.</p>

<p>U.S. Magistrate Judge Edwin Torres scheduled his arraignment for Aug. 10 and ordered De Oliveira not to talk to other defendants about the case. He was released on a $100,000 bond.</p>

<p>De Oliveira’s lawyer, John Irving, told reporters after the hearing that it was “unfortunate” the Justice Department had charged his client and it was time for prosecutors to “put their money where their mouth is.”</p>

<p>Prosecutors first charged Trump and his aide Walt Nauta in the case in June, alleging Trump haphazardly stored hundreds of classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago home and enlisted staff to hide them from investigators.</p>

<p>Trump, front-runner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, has pleaded not guilty to 37 criminal counts. He said during a radio interview on Friday that he had turned over all security camera tapes the government had asked for.</p>

<p>Nauta has also pleaded not guilty.</p>

<p>Investigators raided Trump's resort in August 2022 and found more than 300 secret documents in a trove of roughly 11,000 government papers.</p>

<p>According to Thursday's indictment, De Oliveira, 56, in June 2022 told another worker at the resort where Trump lives that "the boss" wanted security videos of the property in Florida deleted after the Justice Department subpoenaed them, according to Thursday's indictment.</p>

<p>De Oliveira and Nauta also moved boxes of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago to conceal them from the FBI and Trump's lawyers, the indictment said.</p>

<p>Prosecutors said De Oliveira lied to the FBI during a voluntary interview by falsely claiming he had no involvement in moving boxes.</p>

<p>"Never saw nothing," De Oliveira told the agents, according to the indictment.</p>

<p>Prosecutors allege Trump took the documents illegally when he left office in January 2021 and stored them in unsecured locations, including a ballroom, bathroom and shower. He also showed the papers - which included top-secret information about the U.S. nuclear program and military vulnerabilities - to people who were not authorized to see them, according to the initial indictment.</p>

<p>Trump's lawyers met with U.S. Special Counsel Jack Smith last week about the election interference probe. It is not uncommon for defense attorneys to meet with federal prosecutors before an indictment.</p>

<p>Trump in April became the first sitting or former U.S. president to face criminal charges when a grand jury called by Manhattan’s Democratic district attorney indicted him for allegedly falsifying business records to conceal hush money payments to a porn star.</p>

<p>Trump has pleaded not guilty, saying the cases against him are part of a politically motivated "witch hunt."</p>

<p>Separately, a grand jury in Georgia is investigating Trump’s efforts to overturn the election in that state.</p>

<p>Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is expected to announce whether she will charge anyone in the probe in August.</p>

<p>Media over the weekend reported Trump's political action committee is expected to report on Monday that it has spent about $40 million in legal fees in the first half of 2023 to defend Trump and his advisers.</p>

De Oliveira and Nauta also moved boxes of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago to conceal them from the FBI and Trump's lawyers, the indictment said. Prosecutors said De Oliveira lied to the FBI during a voluntary interview by falsely claiming he had no involvement in moving boxes. "Never saw nothing," De Oliveira told the agents, according to the indictment. Prosecutors allege Trump took the documents illegally when he left office in January 2021 and stored them in unsecured locations, including a ballroom, bathroom and shower. He also showed the papers - which included top-secret information about the U.S. nuclear program and military vulnerabilities - to people who were not authorized to see them, according to the initial indictment. Trump's lawyers met with U.S. Special Counsel Jack Smith last week about the election interference probe. It is not uncommon for defense attorneys to meet with federal prosecutors before an indictment. Trump in April became the first sitting or former U.S. president to face criminal charges when a grand jury called by Manhattan’s Democratic district attorney indicted him for allegedly falsifying business records to conceal hush money payments to a porn star. Trump aide charged with obstruction in classified documents case appears in court

<p>Japan's infamous Joker assailant who attempted to kill and burn innocent people on a train in Tokyo has been sentenced to 23 years in prison.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Tokyo District Court's Tachikawa branch found 26-year-old Kyota Hattori guilty of attempted murder and starting a fire on the train, while dressed as DC comic book villain, the Joker.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The incident took place in October 2021, on the day of Halloween, at around 8 pm on a Keio Line train, heading to Shinjuku Station.&nbsp;Hattori boarded the train, dressed in a purple suit, green shirt and a tie, leading to him being called the Joker.</p>

<p>Afterwards, he stabbed a passenger in his 70s whilst trying to kill 12 others by starting a&nbsp;fire. While the stabbed man sustained&nbsp;a critical condition, he survived and nobody died in the attack.&nbsp;</p>

<p>During a hearing last month, Hattori admitted to the stabbing and lighting the&nbsp;train carriage on fire, but denied the latter part of the indictment, saying there was no intent to murder when he lit up the coach.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“I don’t know if the arson can be considered attempted murder,” Hattori said.</p>

<p>At the time of his arrest, Hattori told the police that he "adores" the Joker character from the Batman films. He wanted to kill multiple people and receive the death penalty.&nbsp;Police said he made the plan to “stab and burn passengers on a crowded Halloween day on an express train that people couldn’t flee". He also&nbsp;told them he had spread lighter fluid on the train.</p>

<p>“He held a knife and started spreading liquid. He was committing this act without showing any emotion, just mechanically. I think that brought fear to everyone," one of the witnesses in the carriage&nbsp;said at the time.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Violent crimes in Japan&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>Violent crime is rare in Japan but Hattori's attack came a little more than a month after nine people were wounded in a similar train attack where the suspect handed himself to the police after fleeing the scene.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Earlier this month, another gruesome crime was reported&nbsp;in the country's northern city of Sapporo where a headless body of a man was discovered in one of the 'love hotel' rooms.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The naked and headless body of the victim slumped in a bathtub, was found by one of the hotel workers.&nbsp;None of his belongings were found in the room and the bed appeared unused.</p>

<p>An accountability court in Pakistan acquitted Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his family members on Thursday in a multi-million-dollar money laundering case after the anti-corruption agency failed to provide any solid evidence against them.</p>

<p>"An Accountability Court acquitted Prime Minister Shehbaz, his wife Nusrat, his son Hamza and daughter Javaria in the PKR 7 billion money laundering case filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in 2020," a court official told PTI.</p>

<p>The official said the court acquitted the premier and his family members after the NAB failed to provide any solid evidence against the suspects regarding the laundering of millions of dollars abroad, especially to the United Kingdom.</p>

<p>The corruption case was filed by the NAB in 2020 during the tenure of Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government.</p>

<p>The Sharif family termed the case a political victimisation.</p>

<p>On July 10, his son, Suleman Shahbaz, was also acquitted in the same case.</p>

<p>Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) senior leader barrister Aitzaz Ahsan alleged that former Pakistan Army Chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa and the military establishment had rescued the Sharif family from conviction in corruption cases against them.</p>
