In a statement, the Taiwanese defence ministry said the Chinese People’s Liberation Army sent 37 aircraft and seven navy vessels around Taiwan between Friday 6:00 am and Saturday 6:00 am (local time), reported the Associated Press. &nbsp;

According to Taiwanese officials, among the warplanes were J-10 and J-16 fighters and H-6 bombers. Out of nearly 40 warplanes, 22 crossed the midline of the Taiwan Strait – an unofficial boundary between the island and the mainland – or entered the island’s defence identification zone near its southern part, said the Taiwanese defence ministry.&nbsp;

China’s move to send ships and warplanes around the democratically governed Taiwan comes ahead of the latter’s annual Han Kuang exercise next week which is said to be aimed at defending itself against a possible invasion. It also comes days after Taiwan’s recently concluded Wan’an exercises which aim to prepare the island’s civilians for natural disasters and practice evacuations in case of an air raid.

China has repeatedly claimed Taiwan as its own territory while the island’s government strongly disputes Beijing’s sovereignty claims, saying that only their 23 million people can decide their future. Recently, China has also ramped up military activities near the island and expressed displeasure at political activities in Taiwan.&nbsp;

Earlier this year, China also conducted three-day military drills on the Taiwan Strait, which were announced hours after Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen returned from her visit to the United States and met with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and other lawmakers.&nbsp;

After the drills, the Chinese military posted a simulation video showing how it could launch a full-scale attack against the self-governed island if war ever broke out. The video showed what appeared to be trajectory missiles landing on Taiwan and its surrounding waters.&nbsp;

Additionally, it also mapped out how the Chinese forces, including military aircraft and navy vessels, could launch a coordinated attack.

For the second time in a week, renewed Chinese military activity has been reported by Taiwan after 37 Chinese military aircraft flew into the air defence zone of the island on Thursday, some of which then flew into the western Pacific. 
 
China, which has continued to claim the democratically governed Taiwan as its own territory, in the past three years has regularly flown its air force near the island, though it has not entered into the territorial air space of Taiwan. 
 
Taiwan's defence ministry, in a short statement, said that around 2 pm (0600 GMT) on Sunday, 24 Chinese air force planes were detected by them, which included J-10, J-11, J-16 and Su-30 fighters, as well as H-6 bombers.

Taiwan stated that it has its own fighters and deployed land-based missile systems and ships to keep watch.

The embassy of Honduras was officially opened in China on Sunday, months after it changed its diplomatic allegiance from Taipei to Beijing. 
 
"The relations between Honduras and China will open new opportunities and capabilities to strengthen the cooperation between both countries," said Honduran Foreign Minister Enrique Reina while speaking to Chinese state media after attending a ceremony in which the plaque for the new embassy was unveiled. 
 
Honduran President Xiomara Castro reached Shanghai on Friday to embark on his five-day visit to cement the relationship and is scheduled to hold talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing.

The ceremony was attended by Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang on Sunday, the official Xinhua news agency stated. 
 
He shook hands with Reina in front of a row of Honduran and Chinese flags. Honduras severed its diplomatic ties with Taiwan in March in favour of Beijing.

'Will counter-attack': Taiwan warns China if it breaches airspace, territorial waters

There are war clouds hovering over Taiwan, but wait the Ukraine-Russia war is far from over. It rages on. The Ukrainian forces continue to defend their territories with renewed tenacity. The Russian forces continue their relentless onslaught.

And now a nuclear disaster is on the horizon. Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia nuclear power station is in the middle of a raging battle. Missiles and artillery shells are landing dangerously close to the nuclear facility.

Speaking to WION&nbsp;Dr. Paul Dorfman, Radiation Protection Committee EPA RPAC, warns that any damage to the nuclear plant could trigger extensive radiation pollution which could reach Europe, Russia &amp; even Middle-east. With both Moscow &amp; Kyiv blaming each other for attacks the spectre of a disaster worse than in Chornobyl is rising.

It’s been 24 weeks since Moscow launched its special military operation and if the Pentagon is to be believed then the Russian offensive has been brought to a standstill.

The U.S. has offered a new $775 million arms package for Ukraine. The latest offering is the 19th since the war began and is now aimed at helping Kyiv to launch a counter-offensive.

The latest tranche of weaponry includes rockets for the High-Mobility Artillery Rocket System which has the Ukrainian military super excited. Americans are also sending air-to-ground HARM missiles that home in on radar installations. Also on their way are ScanEagle surveillance drones, 1,000 Javelin anti-armour weapons, 1,500 TOW anti-armour missiles, and fresh artillery and artillery ammunition.

Six weeks into the war Ukraine seems more confident and they are now punching above their weight. Armed with ally-supplied precision-guided weapons Ukraine has been striking deep behind enemy lines, frustrating the Russians.

But what about the peace talks? Well, neither President Vladimir Putin nor Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelensky is keen to sing the peace tune, perhaps buried somewhere between their egos.

The world too at large looks indifferent, none of the world powers are evenly remotely interested in bringing the two nations to the negotiating table. The United Nations Chief visited the war-torn nation this week but on his agenda was speeding up grain deliveries. But the big question remains how &amp; when will the Ukraine-Russia war end?

The latest military manoeuvres came after the US and Taiwan announced plans to start trade talks in autumn with eleven trade areas to be discussed between Washington and Taipei, including&nbsp;trade facilitation, digital trade, and non-market policies among others.

China's foreign ministry slammed the upcoming trade talks and urged the US to adhere to the "One China" policy and stop all official interactions with Taiwan even as Taipei welcomed the move.

Previously, on Monday night, 21 Chinese military aircraft flew into the southwestern part of Taiwan's air defence zone. In an immediate response, Taiwan deployed anti-aircraft missile systems and also sent an air patrol to monitor the situation.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, the Chinese state television on showed footage of military drills conducted by the PLA's Eastern Theatre Command near Taiwan. The CCTV showed military planes taking off, naval warships on patrol, military vehicles and missile weapons participating in drills.&nbsp;

Although, there is no confirmation regarding when the video was recorded.&nbsp;

The spokesperson of Eastern Theatre Command, Shi Yi, said that the exercises were aimed to "shock and deter against the major escalation of the United States' recent negative actions on the Taiwan issue, and a serious warning to the Taiwan independence forces."&nbsp;

Japanese Defence Minister Nobuo Kishi on Tuesday (May 24) said that Chinese and Russian fighter jets carried out joint flights near Japan as leaders of the Quad group (Japan, the US, India and Australia) met in Tokyo. The incident is deemed provocation by China and Russia as it happened when US President Joe Biden, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Australia's newly elected leader Anthony Albanese visited the Japanese capital at the invitation of PM Fumio Kishida. During the summit and bilateral talks, the Quad leaders stressed their determination to ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific region despite an increasingly assertive China.&nbsp;

As quoted by the news agency Reuters, Kishi told reporters that "two Chinese bombers joined two Russian bombers in the Sea of Japan and made a joint flight to the East China Sea. After that, a total of four aircraft, two presumed (new) Chinese bombers -- which replaced the two Chinese bombers -- and two Russian bombers, conducted a joint flight from the East China Sea to the Pacific Ocean."&nbsp;

Kishi also said that a Russian reconnaissance plane also flew over the open sea from the northern island of Hokkaido to the Noto peninsula on Japan's main island.&nbsp;

Although, the defence ministry told AFP that the planes did not breach territorial airspace. Notably, it was the fourth time since November that long-distance joint flights by Russia and China had been spotted near Japan, AFP reported.&nbsp;

Amid tensions with Taiwan, reports say the Chinese army trained nurses as part of its war simulation exercise.

The People’s Liberation Army(PLA) reportedly trained 300 nurses as part of the military drill involving&nbsp;an exercise to take an island. The exercise was part of a nighttime combat drill at sea with nurses as part of the medical rescue plan.

The nurses reportedly wore goggles during the day to block the light as they were taught to handle the boat simulator.

China has been conducting drills near Taiwan for several months. China had recently sent a record number of 56&nbsp;warplanes into Taiwan's airspace as the country scrambled its own fighters and activated the missile systems.
