Spokesperson of Chinese Embassy in India Counselor Ji Rong said, “We firmly oppose the Indian side’s repeated use of “national security” as an excuse to prohibit some Mobile apps with a Chinese background.”

“The Chinese government has always required overseas Chinese companies to abide by international rules, operate in compliance with laws and regulations and conform to public order and good morals,” he added.

"China and India are the opportunities for development to each other rather than threats. Both sides should bring bilateral economic and trade relations back to the right path for mutual benefits and win-win results on the basis of dialogue and negotiation," said the spokesperson.

The apps include Alibaba Workbench, AliSuppliers mobile app, Ali Express - smarter shopping, better living, Alipay Cashier, Lalamove India-Delivery app among others. The list also includes several dating apps.

The government had said it was banning the apps "under section 69A of the Information Technology Act Action taken based on inputs regarding these apps for engaging in activities prejudicial to India's sovereignty, integrity, defence, security and public order."

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had earlier said that US government is expanding its Clean Network program to include Chinese-made cellphone apps and cloud computing services citing national security concerns while adding that it wants to ban "untrusted" Chinese apps from the app stores of US mobile carriers and phone makers.

"We don't want companies to be complicit in Huawei's human rights abuses or the CCP's surveillance apparatus," Pompeo had said earlier.

The US State Department had unveiled the 5G Clean Path program on April 29.

While banning the apps, the Indian government said: "The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has received many complaints from various sources including several reports about the misuse of some mobile apps available on Android and iOS platforms for stealing and surreptitiously transmitting users’ data in an unauthorized manner to servers which have locations outside India."

US sanctions designed to restrict the ability of China’s Huawei to source advanced microchips for 5G equipment is likely to have a significant impact on the reliability of the supplier, Britain’s culture minister said on Monday.

Oliver Dowden told Sky News he would not comment on reports that officials are drawing up proposals to stop installing Huawei equipment but said the UK decision was not “not fixed in stone”.

TikTok ban: Chingari app crosses 10 million downloads on Play Store

The Commerce ministry said it hoped India corrects its "discriminatory actions against Chinese companies immediately."

Ministry of Commerce spokesman Gao Feng said in an online briefing that India's action was&nbsp;in violation of WTO rules.

In a similar move, China's foreign ministry had earlier said it was "strongly concerned" over India's ban on Chinese apps.

"India's clean app approach will boost India's sovereignty and will also boost India's integrity and national security, as the Indian government cell itself has stated," the US secretary of state asserted.

Tik Tok defended its position in a statement and said that the company "continues to comply with all data privacy and security requirements under Indian law and have not shared any information of our users in India with any foreign government, including the Chinese government."

The company which has huge followers in India further added that it had "democratized the internet" by making it available in &nbsp;14 Indian languages by giving a platform to artists, storytellers and performers.

Google on Thursday said it has temporarily blocked access to those apps that were still available on the Play Store in India even after the government banned on 59 apps this week.

"While we continue to review the interim orders from the Government of India, we have notified the affected developers and have temporarily blocked access to the apps that remained available on the Play Store in India," a Google spokesperson said.

With India's TikTok ban, Chinese parent company ByteDance could lose up to $6 billion

A day after banning 59 Chinese apps, the Indian government on Tuesday&nbsp;directed all internet service providers to block the banned apps under the emergency clause of the IT Act.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has issued the order in two sets -- the first set contains a list of 35 apps and the other 24 apps taking the total to 59.

"The Ministry of Electronics and &amp; Information Technology has issued directions for blocking 24 apps under the emergency clause 69A of the IT Act 2000, in addition to 35 apps for whose blocking instructions have been issued earlier today itself," a DoT order to internet companies said.

A day after the government banned several Chinese apps, popular short-form video app Mitron reported that its daily traffic jumped up by more than 11 times.

Just 5 days after crossing the 10 million (1 crore) downloads milestone, Mitron has now announced that the app has been downloaded by 17 million (1.7 crore) users in India. Mitron app has been one of the most downloaded apps in India during the last two months.

It is incredibly exciting to see the rapid adoption of Mitron by Indian users. 11-fold jump in traffic, immediately after the ban of Chinese apps, was beyond our expectations, said Shivank Agarwal, Founder and CEO, Mitron.
