Pep Guardiola has won nine major trophies at Manchester City but the Spaniard said his managerial era at the Premier League club will be defined by whether he delivers their first Champions League title.

When asked if winning the trophy with City would define his success in the eyes of the public, Guardiola told reporters,

"Yes. That doesn't mean I agree with that but, absolutely, we'll be judged for that competition. My first Champions League game here (in 2016), they asked, 'Are you here to win the Champions League?' If I was manager for Real Madrid I could understand, but I accept it. As much as we go through, it's not going to change that."

City host RB Leipzig in the second leg of their last-16 tie on Tuesday after the first game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Guardiola also said there was room for improvement in striker Erling Haaland's all-round game even though the Norwegian has scored 34 goals this season.

"I don't like one player just to score goals in the box. It's important, we need it of him," he said. "But away from the opponents' box where he cannot score a goal, we need him to be more active. We have to take a look at him and he has to be involved in what we're doing. He has improved, he can be better."

Haaland has netted six times against Leipzig in his career. Although his scoring rate has come down after a blistering start this season, midfielder Kevin De Bruyne said the team was happy with his output.

"I feel like in the beginning of the season when everything was going in and we were winning a lot of games there was nothing going wrong, but when you lose a few points it's different," De Bruyne said.

"I don't feel there is any issue. I have not heard anything coming out from the team, from Erling or anyone else.

"People outside will judge on how we play. Maybe some games we play a better brand of football then in others or in other years. But in other games, Crystal Palace at home (where Haaland got a hat-trick in a 4-2 win), for example, he won us the game."

On Tuesday (March 7), UEFA said it would refund Liverpool fans who attended last year's final in Paris and that the English club had confirmed it would implement the refund scheme, which would cover all of the club's ticket allocation for the final.

UEFA said Real Madrid fans and neutral supporters who met the refund criteria would be processed via its customer service. Tickets for the final cost between 62 pounds ($74) to 610 pounds ($733).

"Real Madrid has been holding talks with UEFA with the aim of assessing the compensation that will be offered to the fans," Madrid said in a statement.

"Our club was entirely confident that these solutions would be in line with the seriousness of the events, the extent of the damage caused and UEFA's responsibility for them.

"Regrettably, our club believes that UEFA's proposal ... is insufficient. It merely consists of the reimbursement of the ticket price, which is also subject to the fulfilment of a series of requirements, including providing proof of the time of access to the stadium."

UEFA did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment. Madrid added that an online assistance service would be set up for fans to make "appropriate claims" against UEFA.

"... All the fans experienced an unacceptable delay in the start of the match. In addition, there was unacceptable insecurity both in accessing and leaving the stadium, as well as additional harm such as theft, assaults and threats," Madrid said.

"For this reason, Real Madrid has decided not to cooperate in the restricted compensation procedure proposed by UEFA, which we ask to redress the situation and assume its full responsibility."

Chelsea kept their season alive by beating Borussia Dortmund 2-0 at Stamford Bridge to progress to the quarter-finals of the Champions League 2-1 on aggregate on Tuesday.

Raheem Sterling and Kai Havertz, with a twice-taken penalty, got the goals as the Blues relieved the pressure on manager Graham Potter.

The Englishman's job was on the line after a season that has so far failed to deliver any return on a world-record injection of over £500 million ($600 million) in one season on new signings.

Chelsea had won just three of their previous 16 matches to fall to 10th in the Premier League and bow out early of both domestic cups.

But some of their expensive collection of stars showed up in time to remain in the hunt for a third European Cup.

Kick-off was delayed by 10 minutes after Dortmund got stuck in the heavy London traffic on arrival to the stadium.

Once the action got underway, Chelsea sped out of the blocks.

Alexander Meyer had to fly off his line to block from Joao Felix from a narrow angle before Havertz fired a big chance into the side netting.

Dortmund arrived in England on the back of a 10-game winning run in all competitions.

Chances continued to come and go at the other end. Havertz smashed a volley off the inside of the post and then finally found the net via the underside of the bar only for the goal to be ruled out for an offside against Sterling earlier in the move.

The worst miss was to come as Kalidou Koulibaly miscued with an open goal from Ben Chilwell's free-kick and Felix's follow-up effort was blocked on the line.

Potter was uncharacteristically animated on the touchline as he constantly whipped the crowd up to keep pushing his side forward.

And the home fans finally had something to celebrate three minutes before half-time.

Sterling's first attempt was another one to forget as he swiped and missed Chilwell's low cross, but the England international composed himself to dribble past Reus and fire high into the net.

That was just Chelsea's third goal in the last eight games.

Marius Wolf was penalised for handling Chilwell's cross after a VAR review.

Germany defender Antonio Rudiger said on Monday he was rooting for Real Madrid to beat Liverpool in the Champions League final last month because was still hurting after losing the FA Cup and League Cup finals with Chelsea against the Merseyside club.

Rudiger, who was part of the Chelsea side eliminated by Real in the quarter-finals, said playing against the team that could be his future club was not an issue.

"At that time I wasn’t sure that I was going to Real, but it would be easy anyway because we are professionals and those contractual elements stay off the pitch," Rudiger said.

"It was a very special and intense game the second-leg, my first time playing at Santiago Bernabeu. It was all going well for our team but after we scored the third goal I was surprised that the atmosphere was still positive from the crowd, it was quite impressive."

Rudiger has been a key player for Chelsea since joining from AS Roma in 2017, winning the FA Cup, Champions League, Europa League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup.

UEFA announced on Monday it was opening an "independent report" into the security chaos before the Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid at the Stade de France in Paris.

European football's governing body said the report would "examine decision making, responsibility and behaviours of all entities involved in the final".

UEFA have appointed Portuguese politician Tiago Brandao Rodrigues to oversee the report on a pro bono basis on the completion of which they will decide upon a course of action.

"Evidence will be gathered from all relevant parties," UEFA said.

"The findings of the independent report will be made public," it promised.

Brandao Rodrigues has served as Portuguese Minister of Education, was a member of the World Anti-doping Agency and was Portugal's Olympic attaché during the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

France on Monday blamed "massive" ticket fraud for the chaotic scenes that marred the Champions League final on Saturday which saw Real Madrid beat Liverpool 1-0.

But the French government has faced a barrage of criticism from press and politicians in Britain over the policing of the match.

UEFA to investigate Champions League chaos

The French government hosted an emergency meeting on Monday after crowd trouble marred last weekend`s Champions League soccer final, which France`s sports minister said was initially caused by Liverpool fans turning up without valid tickets.

"We need to take all the necessary steps to make sure this never happens again", said French sports minister Amelie Oudea-Castera, at the start of the meeting.

The crowd trouble at the match in Paris has become a political issue ahead of French parliamentary elections in mid-June, and with France due to host the 2023 Rugby World Cup and the 2024 Olympics.

"The images are lamentable, they are disturbing because we can clearly see that we are not prepared for events such as the Olympic Games", said far-left leader Jean-Luc Melenchon on Sunday, while his far-right rival Marine Le Pen called the incident a "humiliation" for France.

Far-right politician Eric Zemmour had also said the trouble was caused principally by local youths from the nearby Paris Seine Saint Denis district, rather than Liverpool fans.

Oudea-Castera said Liverpool fans without valid tickets were responsible for the initial crowd problems at the Champions League final, with the problem then exacerbated by local youths trying to force their way in to the game.

"What we really have to bear in mind is that what happened first of all was this mass gathering of British supporters of the Liverpool club, without tickets, or with fake tickets," Oudea-Castera told RTL radio on Monday.

"When there are that many people by the entrance to the stadium, there will be people trying to force their way in through the doors of the Stade de France, and a certain number of youths from the nearby area who were present tried to get in by mixing in with the crowd," she told French radio RTL.

The match had to be delayed by 35 minutes after police tried to hold back people attempting to force their way into the national stadium without tickets, while some ticket holders complained that they were not let in.

Television footage showed images of young men who did not appear to be wearing red Liverpool jerseys jumping the gates of the stadium and running away from security to get into the match. Others outside, including children, were tear-gassed by riot police, said a Reuters witness.

Chris Philp, Britain`s minister for technology, said he was shocked by the images.

"I was horrified to see those pictures of fans including children, disabled fans, being pepper-sprayed by French police," he added. "And from the pictures I saw there was no obvious justification for that kind of behaviour."

Liverpool Chief Executive Billy Hogan said the club wanted a "transparent investigation" by governing body UEFA. Britain`s minister for sport, Nadine Dorries, also urged UEFA to investigate.

Oudea-Castera said there were no problems with Real Madrid supporters at Saturday`s match and that the Spanish side had managed to control their travelling fans better than Liverpool.

She added that France nevertheless had to examine stepping up security at high-risk soccer matches, with further trouble having broken out on Sunday after St Etienne were relegated from France`s Ligue 1.
