<p>Megalopolis is iconic in many ways since the film has been in the making for decades now. The dystopian epic is directed by 85-year-old Francis Ford Coppola. <p>Speaking in an interview to Deadline, Anya Taylor-Joy said, “By nature, of how arduous the shooting schedule was, I was very often alone and (Furiosa’s) a character that’s very much in her head and she’s very, very quiet, so it felt everything around me that pushed that sense of isolation.”&nbsp;</p>

<p><em>Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga</em> will start its release schedule from May 22. It will be available in theatres from May 24.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Indian actor Rajpal Yadav has landed in Cannes.</p>

<p>The Bollywood actor’s upcoming film <em>Kaam Chaalu Hai </em>will be showcased the prestigious film festival this year.</p>

<p>Happy and excited for his film to get screened at Cannes, Rajpal Yadav said in an earlier interview, “I am extremely grateful to IMPAA (Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association) for liking the film and recommending it be screened at the prestigious film festival. I have been invited to the festival earlier but I always wanted to attend it with a film, and I’m getting to do it now. I’m very happy that the film is going to the prestigious festival.”</p>

<p>He added, “It is a prestigious place for any film to be screened. It is like the trade center of films, so to have the film go there is humbling and prideful. I feel very happy that I’m able to present such a good, content-centric film on such an international platform, and it’s all thanks to Bollywood and IMPAA suggesting the film go to the festival. It will resonate with people all over the world irrespective of their class.”</p>

Quentin Dupieux’s The Second Act will be the opening film at the 77th edition of the festival. The Un Certain Regard section of the 2024 Cannes Film Festival will showcase Santosh by British-Indian filmmaker Sandhya Suri which stars actress Shahana Goswami in the lead. The last Indian film to compete for the coveted Palme d’Or award was Malayalam film Swaham by director Shaji N Karun in 1994. The film had lost to Pulp Fiction that year. Legendary filmmaker Mrinal Sen’s Kharij had also competed in the same section in 1983. Before that, films like MS Sathyu’s Garm Hava (1974), Satyajit Ray’s Parash Pathar (1958), Raj Kapoor’s Awaara (1953), V Shantaram’s Amar Bhoopali (1952) and Chetan Anand’s Neecha Nagar (1946) were selected for Cannes’ Competition segment. I was so touched to be able to be like her, to express the thoughts she had. It’s such a wonderful script. You always want to do your best as an actor and I wanted to do my best for Marlene."</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Jeanne Damas was “afraid” when approaching her role. She said, “Paloma Picasso is still alive! But in the end, I was free to create my own Paloma. The secret was perhaps in trying to use her ‘code,’ her red lipstick and her sense of style, and keep it joyful."</p>

<p>Fresh off her first-ever best director nomination at the Golden Globes, <em>Barbie</em> director Greta Gerwig has been named as the Jury President for the upcoming 2024 Cannes International Film Festival.<br />

“A heroine of our modern times, Greta Gerwig shakes up the status quo between a highly codified cinema industry and an era that is demanding greater scrutiny,” Cannes said in its official announcement.<br />

“Yesterday, ambassador of independent American cinema, today at the summit of worldwide box office success, Greta Gerwig manages to combine what was previously judged to be incompatible: Delivering arthouse blockbusters, narrowing the gap between art and industry, exploring contemporary feminist issues with deft as well as depth, and declaring her demanding artistic ambition from within an economic model that she embraces to put to better use.<br />

“Whether acting, writing, or directing, her artistic endeavours have recurrent leitmotifs, such as family upheaval, adolescent rites of passage, fear of loss of social status or the emergence of artistic vocation via characters that are free, sometimes fragile and marginal, but also fierce," said the statement from the festival organiser.</p>

Greta's appointment is historic as she will be the first American female director to preside over the Cannes Jury. She is also the second female director to take over the post in Cannes history first being Jane Campion in 2014. She is the second American woman to hold the post following Olivia de Haviland, who was Cannes’ first female Jury President in 1965.<br />

“This is an obvious choice since Greta Gerwig so audaciously embodies the renewal of world cinema, for which Cannes is each year both the forerunner and the sounding board,” said Cannes Festival President Iris Knobloch and Artistic Director Thierry Frémaux.</p>

<p>They added that Gerwig “is also the representative of an era that is breaking down barriers and mixing genres, and thereby elevating the values of intelligence and humanism.”<br />

Despite the praise, this will be the first time Gerwig will walk the Cannes red carpet officially. None of her films as a director have premiered at the French festival.</p>

<p>Greta has had a great year at the box office with her film <em>Barbie</em> becoming the highest-grossing film of the year. She has also helmed critically acclaimed films like <em>Lady Bird&nbsp;</em>and <em>Little Women</em>.&nbsp;<br />
