Last week, Joseph George Sutherland, the suspect was taken into custody by the police. He was charged with two counts of first degree murder. Sutherland was nabbed after the police used DNA technology in the investigation.

Gilmour was an aspiring fashion designer and the daughter of David Gilmour, who co-founded Barrick, which was the world's biggest gold mining company before it was overtaken in 2019 by rival Newmont.

Tice was a family therapist and a mother of four.&nbsp;

The police said two women lived just few kilometres apart in Toronto but they did not know each other.

"The only way that this (case) was solved was advances in science," Toronto police detective Steve Smith told a news conference.

He said police in 2000 had linked the two murders through the suspect's DNA left at the scene.

Then recently, he said, "we were able to use investigative genetic genealogy to narrow down a suspect family. And from there we were able to narrow down a suspect."

Notably, Sutherland was not even a 'person of interest' in the killings when the original investigation took place 39 years ago.

On behalf of the victims' families, Erin's brother Sean McCowan shared their relief after 39 years: "Erin and Susan are finally getting their day."

"This is a day that I, and we, have been waiting almost an entire lifetime for," McCowan said.

Canadian foreign minister on Monday directed her officials to summon Russian ambassador Oleg Stepanov over series of anti-LGBTQ tweets which included one aimed at an openly lesbian federal minister.

The embassy posted the messages on Twitter in recent days after Russian lawmakers approved a bill banning all forms of LGBTQ "propaganda" that critics say ramps up a crackdown on "non-traditional" sexual relationships, affecting everything from books and films to social media posts.

"Unsurprisingly, the Russians have once again chosen hateful propaganda," Foreign Minister Melanie Joly's deputy director of communications, Emily Williams, said in a statement.

"This is an attack on the Canadian values of acceptance and tolerance. Minister Joly has directed Global Affairs Canada to summon the Russian ambassador to tell him as much," she said.

A photo illustration was included in Russian tweets which included a pride flag overlaid with a red line inside a red circle, indicating it was banned. The accompanying remarks said,"It is all about family. Family is a man and a woman and children."&nbsp;

The Russian embassy also targetted Canada's Sports Minister Pascale St-Onge, who is openly lesbian. The tirade came after she objected to the "Russian homophobic propaganda."

She was asked to "explore and explain how you appeared in this world?"

"We absolutely can't tolerate this rhetoric and even less the subsequent comments on Minister St-Onge's response," Williams said.

In an email to AFP, St-Onge said she was "profoundly offended by the Russian ambassador's message against homosexuals while on Canadian soil," calling it "an affront to the hard-earned rights of the whole LGBTQ2S+ community."

According to Indian govt estimates, India’s total trade with Canada (goods and services) in 2021-22 was US$11.68. Bilateral trade in services in 2021 was US$ 4.88 billion. Canadian&nbsp;Pension Funds have cumulatively invested around US$ 55 billion in India.

The strategy highlighted that both the countries "have a shared tradition of democracy and pluralism, a common commitment to a rules-based international system and multilateralism" even as both sides have "mutual interest in expanding our commercial relationship and extensive and growing people-to-people connections."

On November 15, Jayme Erickson on her way on Alberta roadway found a young teenage girl with several injuries. The injuries were so severe that it was not possible for anyone to identify her.&nbsp;

Erickson removed the girl from the car and stayed with her until she was admitted to a nearby hospital.&nbsp;

After her shift was over and she returned home, police officers informed Erickson that her daughter Montana, 17, had died in the accident due to such severe injuries that she couldn't survive&nbsp;them.

Learning this, the mother was shattered.

"The critically injured patient I had just attended to was my own flesh and blood. My only child. My mini me. My daughter, Montana," she wrote to her family and friends.

She expressed her gratitude for their 17 years together, the Guardian reported. &nbsp;

Erickson was the first one to arrive at the site. She then told her husband about them losing their daughter.

Montana was a talented swimmer who aspired to study law and was able to provide "one last gift" to people in need, her organs, said her mother.

She said, "We’re so happy that our baby girl is living on through others and she has in the wake of this tragedy saved other people. We know it’s what she would have wanted and we are so proud of her and we’re going to miss her very, very much."

Meanwhile, in the UK, at least seven armed vehicles have been deployed outside Iran International television studios in west London after two of its UK-based journalists were threatened by Tehran.&nbsp;

Reportedly, they received “severe and credible” threats for their coverage of the ongoing protests on the UK-based Persian language media company. The channel has been dubbed as a “terrorist” organisation by the regime, said a report by AFP.&nbsp;

Reportedly, the inaccurate tweet was shared by Trudeau's official Twitter account and remained live for more than 12 hours before being deleted.

The claim that Iran's regime sentenced 15,000 people to death has been swirling across social media platforms for some days and Trudeau became one of the major personalities to fall for it.&nbsp;

The Prime Minister's Office released a statement confirming that the tweet was deleted based on “initial reporting” that “lacked necessary context", stopping short of apologising for the gaffe.&nbsp;

“It [the tweet]&nbsp;was based on reporting of serious concerns raised by international human rights advocates warning of possible future sentences, including the death penalty, imposed on thousands of Iranian protesters who have already been detained by the regime,” said a government spokesperson.&nbsp;

In the now-deleted tweet, Trudeau said, “Canada denounces the Iranian regime’s barbaric decision to impose the death penalty on nearly 15,000 protestors,” Trudeau’s now-deleted tweet read.

“These brave Iranians were fighting for their human rights – and we continue to stand united in support of them, and united against the regime’s heinous actions," he added.

Not only Trudeau, but Hollywood celebrities such as Sophie Turner and Viola Davis have also&nbsp;shared and amplified the false news. However, the claim that 15,000 have&nbsp;been sentenced to death is objectively false as there is no evidence backing it up.&nbsp;

An Iranian court on Monday, however,&nbsp;issued the first death sentence linked to recent protests. Reportedly, the protester was&nbsp;convicted of “enmity against God” and “spreading corruption on Earth".&nbsp;

Earlier, a 19-year-old man wearing a bulletproof vest was arrested at a junior college 40 kilometers (25 miles) south of Montreal and charged with allegedly uttering threats.

Students and staff at the Cegep Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu told local media they were ordered to barricade themselves in classrooms and turn off the lights for most of the day, while a police operation unfolded outside.

While denying the allegations, the Chinese foreign ministry said on Tuesday that the country has "no interest" in Canada's internal affairs. A foreign ministry spokesperson stated that Canada should not make remarks as it will hurt ties with China.&nbsp;

Spokesperson Zhao Lijian also said that the relationship between countries can only be built on the basis of "mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit".&nbsp;

Trudeau had told reporters: "We have taken significant measures to strengthen the integrity of our elections processes and our systems, and will continue to invest in the fight against election interference, against foreign interference of our democracies and institutions."&nbsp;

"Unfortunately, we're seeing countries, state actors from around the world, whether it's China or others, are continuing to play aggressive games with our institutions, with our democracies," he added.&nbsp;
