<p>However, he did not identify the firefighter. Local officials said that the victim was at the Donnie Creek wildfire, near Fort St John, in the northeast of the province.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The update also comes after two other firefighters lost their lives, earlier this month, as well as a fourth person, a helicopter pilot,&nbsp;died on July 19 after his aircraft crashed in Alberta, in western Canada, while taking part in relief operations.</p>

<h2><strong>Evacuation order issued for Osoyoos</strong></h2>

<p>An evacuation order was issued for the Canadian town of Osoyoos and its surrounding district after an out-of-control wildfire crossed the border from the US state of Washington. According to the British Columbia Wildfire Service, the blaze, called Eagle Bluff, is around four kilometres away from the town.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It is also reported to be some 200 hectares in size on the Canadian side of the border and 2,000 hectares on the United States side. According to local media reports, the order was issued on Saturday evening for 732 properties in and around Osoyoos.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The orders also cover an area north of the border to the intersection of Highway 97 and Highway 3, as well as west and north along Highway 3.</p>

<p>A third of all the fires currently raging in Canada&nbsp;are in British Columbia amid the country’s worst wildfire season on record. The Canadian province currently has 368 active fires out of the 990 fires which are currently reported to be ravaging Canada. At least 613 of these wildfires are considered out of control.</p>

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) stated that the plane, bound for Salmon Arm, British Columbia had left for Springbank Airport near Calgary on Friday night with five passengers and a pilot.&nbsp;</p>

<p>RCMP Staff Sgt. Ryan Singleton informed that Air Traffic Control&nbsp;(ATC) lost contact with the plane around 9:30 pm local time&nbsp;(0330 GMT Saturday). After the plane was reported missing,&nbsp;a Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) squadron based in Winnipeg was pressed into service.&nbsp;</p>

<p>With the help of&nbsp;Alberta Parks Mountain Rescue, the squadron managed to find the crash site and started looking for survivors, However, all six aboard died due to the strong impact of the crash.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"On behalf of the Alberta RCMP, I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the families of those onboard the aircraft,"&nbsp;said Singleton, adding that the identities of victims were not being released at the time.&nbsp;</p>

FIFA Women's World Cup: Canada find their feet in 2-1 win over gutsy Ireland; Irish team eliminated

<p>Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is all set to shuffle his cabinet, with the rejig of his front bench expected to take place on Wednesday, CTV News reported citing senior government sources.</p>

<p>As per reports, Trudeau, ahead of a subsequent trip to Rideau Hall, is holding private meetings with ministers in Ottawa, following the rumours of a scheduled summer shuffle emerged in the federal political scene for weeks.</p>

<p>Transport Minister Omar Alghabra, Housing and Diversity and Inclusion Minister Ahmed Hussen, and Minister of Official Languages and Minister Responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency Ginette Petitpas Taylor were the ones who had called off the announcements, according to CTV News reports.</p>

<p>Following fierce political scrutiny of the ways in which government handles important issues like housing affordability, public safety, and policies concerning online platforms during the autumn and spring sittings, the minority Liberals are attempting to reset their messaging on a few hot files with this upcoming and potentially momentous cabinet shuffle.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Several ministerial announcements across the country slated for Monday were postponed over the weekend, likely to allow the cabinet members to come back to the national capital in order to consult with PM Trudeau prior to the cabinet shuffle. However, some ministers have continued to travel outside of Ottawa on Mondays, as per CTV News reports.</p>

<p>In case an election is called, it is expected that the ministers will have informed the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) of their plans to run again. Since the ones who specified they won't run again are the ones to be likely removed, the prime minister may be able to promote the ones that are the high-performing members of his backbenches to the cabinet before the next election, which currently is scheduled for the year 2025.</p>

<p>Carolyn Bennett, who is a longtime member of the Liberal Party and also the current Minister of Mental Health and Addictions, on Monday, announced that she will not seek re-election, making the downtown Toronto seat open for the upcoming election.</p>

<p>As per reports, Bennett said that she had previously met the prime minister and conveyed her decision to him.</p>

As of July 16, 2023, H1-B speciality occupation visa holders in the US, and their accompanying immediate family members, will be eligible to apply to come to Canada,” the Canadian government said in a statement.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It added, that the applicant’s “spouses and dependants will also be eligible to apply for a temporary resident visa, with a work or study permit, as needed.”</p>

<p>"It is with heavy hearts that our union mourns the loss of one of our BCGEU family," it said.</p>

<p>Fresh evacuations were ordered in British Columbia recently due to blazes. The province requested the help of 1000 more international firefighters.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"It is very, very challenging across Canada and across the globe right now to secure additional firefighting capacity," BC Fire Department spokesman Cliff Chapman said Thursday.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"This is a very dangerous job," he went on. "With the conditions we are in, it makes it all that much more dangerous for our staff who are working 14, 16, 20-hour days."</p>

<p>Sarah Budd with the British Columbia Wildfire Service said the weather will remain hot and dry for the foreseeable future.</p>

<p>"We're not expecting any reprieve from the weather," Budd said.</p>

<p>Wildfires have already burnt nine million hectares so far. This is 11 times the average for the last decade. The annual record set in 1989 has been surpassed.</p>

<p>What is unusual for Canada is that both sides of the country are burning at the same time.</p>

<p>Cluster munitions have been widely denounced for killing and maiming civilians as they typically release large numbers of smaller bomblets which had targets indiscriminately over a wide area, threatening civilians. Additionally, some of the small bomblets do not explode when deployed and can pose a danger for years after a conflict ends.</p>

<h2><strong>How different countries reacted to US’ decision</strong></h2>

<p>The announcement of sending Ukraine cluster munitions&nbsp;as&nbsp;part of an $800 million security package, was made on Friday and announced by US President Joe Biden’s National Security Adviser, Jake Sullivan. “We recognise that cluster munitions create a risk of civilian harm from unexploded ordnance,” said the White House official.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The CCM bans the use, stockpiling, production and transfer of cluster munitions. The US, along with countries like China and Russia, is not a part of the treaty which bans the bombs in more than 100 countries.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>United Kingdom</strong></p>

<p>United Kingdom Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, on Saturday, also announced Britain’s opposition to sending cluster munitions to Ukraine in line with the CCM, while reiterating support for Kyiv. “We will continue to do our part to support Ukraine against Russia's illegal and unprovoked invasion,” said the British PM.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Similarly, the Spanish defence minister, Margarita Robles, on Saturday also said that cluster bombs should not be sent to help Ukraine. Spain is also a signatory of CCM, in line with which, it has also banned cluster munitions. She went on to reiterate Spain’s support for Ukraine.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Spain, based on the firm commitment it has with Ukraine, also has a firm commitment that certain weapons and bombs cannot be delivered under any circumstances,” said Robles. <p><strong>Canada</strong></p>

<p>Canada also expressed its opposition to Washington’s decision and reiterated its commitment to the Oslo agreement. “We do not support the use of cluster munitions and are committed to putting an end to the effects cluster munitions have on civilians – particularly children,” said the Canadian government.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a series of statements, several international human rights organisations have criticised Washington’s decision and raised alarm about how it would affect civilians’ lives.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Human Rights Watch</strong> said that “transferring these weapons would inevitably cause long-term suffering for civilians and undermine the international opprobrium of their use.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>Similarly, <strong>Amnesty International</strong> said that the Biden administration should understand that “any decision enabling the broader use of cluster bombs in this war will likely lead to one predictable outcome: the further death of civilians.” It added, “Their (cluster munitions) transfer and use by any country under any circumstances is incompatible with international law.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>Amid criticism, Ukrainian Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov took to Twitter and welcomed US’ decision and said it would help in the “de-occupation of our internationally recognised territories” and vowed that the munitions would not be used in “officially recognised territory of Russia.”</p>

<p>“Our position is simple - we need to liberate our temporarily occupied territories and save the lives of our people,” said Reznikov. He also spoke about how the munitions would help save the lives of Ukrainian soldiers and that Kyiv will keep a strict record of their use and exchange information with its partners.</p>
