In a big expose on Friday (Oct 28), Moitra claimed that she indeed provided her login ID and password to a businessman friend to allow submission of her pre-approved questions which she intended to ask in the lower house of Parliament.</p>

<p>This revelation is followed by a series of allegations against the MP that go far beyond just accusations of passwords sharing.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The controversy was initially ignited when Nishikant Dubey, an MP of the ruling BJP, alleged in a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla that Moitra had accepted "bribes" in exchange for posing questions in Parliament, especially targeting the rival Adani Group. Post the grave allegations, the row has been referred to as "cash-for-query".&nbsp;</p>

<p>Dubey levelled the allegations citing documents shared by Lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In response to allegations from the BJP MP, the TMC leader&nbsp;said,&nbsp;"Now that the cash-for-query has fallen flat, this is being made out to be some great issue of national security. Mr. Dubey has gone to the press and said that it is a national security issue. The NIC login has no rules as to who can have your login."</p>

<p>The name of Indian fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi, who is involved in a Rs 13,000-crore Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam and fled the country in 2018, has been removed from the Interpol database of Red Notices (RCN).&nbsp;As per reports, Choksi got off the list basis his plea to the Lyon-headquartered agency.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Interpol Red Notice is a request to law enforcement worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition, surrender, or similar legal action.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Initially, it was seen as a setback for India, however the nation's intelligence agency, CBI, said this latest development does not affect the fugitive's extradition request. "CBI continues to exercise available remedial and appellate options within INTERPOL for rectification of this faulty decision and for restoration of Red Notice," ANI reported quoting CBI as saying.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"CBI has pointed out that even Antigua authorities consider there is sufficient evidence to substantiate that the applicant concealed material facts or made false representation when he applied for his Antigua and Barbuda citizenship, a fact which reflects on previous conduct of this criminal," it added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Choksi fled India in January 2018 to Antigua and Barbuda to seek refuge. Ten months after, Interpol issued a Red Notice against him. Choksi holds citizenship in Antigua and Barbuda.&nbsp;Reports said that Choksi has raised objections against the CBI chargesheet. On several occassions he also cited health issues.&nbsp;</p>

<p>India's investigating agency CBI has charge-sheeted both Mehul Choksi and his nephew Nirav Modi for their involvement in the PNB fraud.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Choksi's spokesperson claims, "The report from the Antiguan police, and the evidence adduced by Choksi in the ongoing High Court proceedings in Antigua, point to an alarming case of state orchestrated kidnap, torture and attempted rendition by the Indian government."&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The decision of Interpol to delete the Red Notice strengthens these concerns. Moreover, the preliminary ruling of the High Court in Antigua demonstrates that there is a case to answer for a full investigation. In turn, Choksi has presented a compelling case that the Indian government is behind the orchestrated kidnap from Antiguan territory, the torture of Mr Choksi, and the attempt to render him to India in breach of the international rule of law," he added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a major development in May 2021 that had major reverberations in India, Choksi was mysteriously seen in neighbouring Dominica.&nbsp;He was detained for in Dominica for illegally entering the country.</p>

<p>As soon as the news of this breakthrough development of Choksi's arrest in Dominica came to surface, India scrambled its team headed by CBI DIG Sharda Raut to bring back the fugitive to India and bring him to books.&nbsp;Choksi's lawyers got in motion and filed a habeas corpus petition before the Dominica High Court.&nbsp;</p>

Fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi removed from Interpol Red Notice List

<p>The Tunisian police have detained two key political activists and an influential businessman Kamel Eltaief who was once a confidant of former President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, said lawyers, on Saturday (February 11). According to local media reports, the arrests were made on the suspicion of conspiracy against state security. The 68-year-old businessman was detained from his house in the capital Tunis, said lawyer Nizar Ayed, without giving any further details about the case.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The police also detained Abdelhamid Jelassi, a former senior official in the Ennahda Islamist party, a fierce critic of President Kais Saied for “suspicion of a plot against state security”, as per local media reports. A political activist and former finance minister&nbsp;Khayam Turki was also arrested. The Ennahda Islamist party is the biggest in the opposition and said that Turki’s arrest was a way to intimidate the president's opponents, reported Reuters.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Tunisian president has also been accused of a coup aimed at dismantling the democracy built after the 2011 revolution by his political rivals who have since been deemed as traitors by Saied. Notably, as per media reports, neither Turki nor Eltaief have been prominent critics of the president. Turki was arrested in an early morning raid, said his lawyer Abdelaziz Essid, adding that he was not known to be wanted by authorities.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“He was taken to an unknown destination”, said Essid. Meanwhile, The Salvation Front, the main opposition coalition against Saied, has since condemned Turki’s arrest and said that police had previously repeatedly questioned him for meeting with opposition figures at his home. Reports suggest that in the past couple of months, authorities have either arrested or opened investigations against many political opponents of the incumbent president.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Notably, the country has seen a spike in arrests and prosecution&nbsp;of politicians, journalists, and others since the incumbent president came to power while rights groups have also raised concerns about political freedoms in Tunisia. <p>Founded in 1888, the Kirloskar Group has contributed to India’s industrialisation for over a century. Vikram Kirloskar was the fourth-generation head of the group and also the Chairman and Managing Director of Kirloskar Systems Ltd.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Kirloskar was a graduate of mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and had also held several important positions at Indian agencies. Over the years he was the president of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and is currently the chairman of CII’s manufacturing council, Trade Fair’s council and Hydrogen Taskforce.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Furthermore, he was also a part of the Society for Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), and the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI).</p>

<p>As per his family sources, Ramachandran, the managing director of Atlas Jewellery and a film producer, was admitted to a hospital in Dubai a few days ago. His death happened when he was trying to rebuild his business after being released from jail some years ago.</p>

<p>Once an international success story in the Middle East and in South India, Ramachandran's situation deteriorated in 2015 after he was detained and sentenced to three years in prison in Dubai for alleged financial fraud, particularly on bounced cheques.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The businessman faced alleged defaults of over Rs. 1,000 crores ($10 billion) to the banks, notably the Bank of Baroda. He was one of the main targets of various cases in Dubai brought by Indian and UAE-based banks, the Indian Express reported.</p>

<p>Ramachandran started working for Canara Bank in 1963. In 1966, he relocated to the State Bank of India to work as a probationary officer before joining the bank's subsidiary. In 1974, he began working at the Commercial Bank of Kuwait till 1987.</p>

<p>The Atlas Group operated 42 showrooms in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and three in India during its success. The group had a revenue of Rs 8,000 crore ($80 billion) in diverse sectors in 2014 before the empire was devastated. In 2015, the situation deteriorated, and Ramchnadran was detained. He was freed from jail in 2018.</p>

<p>Nevzlin, who is a Russian-born Israeli businessman and philanthropist, made these claims citing unspecified sources in Moscow. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Assistant Attorney General John Demers said during a seminar on Wednesday at George Washington University that Chinese espionage and technology theft cases remain a top priority under the Biden administration's Justice Department.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Qin, who resides in Wellesley, Massachusetts, pleaded guilty to 10 counts including conspiring to commit export violations, visa fraud, money laundering and smuggling.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Prosecutors previously also accused Qin, 45, of exporting unmanned surface vehicles and robotic boats, and alleged he had from 2015 to 2018 supplied $8 million in goods to Chinese government-controlled entities.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He admitted to charges only concerning 60 hydrophones worth $100,000. Under a plea deal, prosecutors agreed to recommend a prison sentence at the low end of the 87 to 108 months he faces under federal sentencing guidelines.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The plea was conditional, and Qin may still appeal a judge's decision to not suppress evidence against him.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Defence lawyers said Qin founded LinkOcean Technologies Ltd in China in 2005 to provide oceanographic instruments to scientists and immigrated to the United States with his family in 2014 as a permanent resident.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"This has been a hugely complex, challenging investigation from the outset," said Commander Richard Smith, head of London police's Counter Terrorism Command.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Officers have taken hundreds of statements and collected a large amount of evidential material, but so far no arrests have been made," he said in a police statement on Friday. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Counter terrorism police are heading the inquiry into the death. It occurred shortly after the attempted murders of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter in the English city of Salisbury, although detectives said there was nothing to link the events.&nbsp;</p>

<p>His arrest came the day after the government said it would offer a pardon to a suspected middleman in the murder of Caruana Galizia if he provided legally binding evidence of who was behind the killing.</p>

<p>The sources did not say if Fenech had been charged.</p>

<p>Fenech's lawyer was contacted for comment but has so far issued no statement.</p>

<p>Judicial authorities have not yet confirmed Fenech's arrest. Under Maltese law, the police would have 48 hours to interrogate and charge a suspect or release them.</p>

<p>Caruana Galizia, an eminent anti-corruption journalist, was killed by a car bomb near the Maltese capital Valletta in October 2017 - a murder that shocked Europe and raised questions about the rule of law on the small island.</p>

<p>Three men suspected of being the killers were arrested in December 2017, but the authorities have so far failed to determine who commissioned the murder.</p>

<p>In a potentially major step forward in the probe, a man arrested last week as part of a separate investigation asked to see police dealing with the Caruana Galizia case and offered to provide the name of the mastermind in return for a pardon.</p>

<p>Fenech is a director and co-owner of a business group that won a large energy concession in 2013 from the Maltese state to build a gas power station on the island.</p>

<p>His luxury yacht Gio left the Portomaso marina, five miles (8 km) north of Valletta, shortly after 5.00 a.m. (0400 GMT). However, the boat was under surveillance and police swiftly stopped it and forced it to return to port, the sources said.</p>

<p>In February 2017, eight months before she died, Caruana Galizia wrote in her blog about a mystery company in Dubai called 17 Black Limited, alleging it was connected to Maltese politicians.</p>

<p>She did not publish any evidence of this and was unable to discover who owned the company. A Reuters investigation https://tinyurl.com/y8coeu3x later identified Fenech as the owner.</p>

<p>According to a December 2015 email, uncovered by Maltese financial regulators, secret Panama companies owned by then Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi and Keith Schembri, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat's chief of staff, stood to receive payments of up to $2 million from 17 Black for unspecified services.</p>

<p>The email made no reference to the gas power station and there is no evidence any money was deposited with them.</p>

<p>Schembri and Mizzi both told Reuters last October they had no knowledge of any connection between 17 Black and Fenech, or of any plan to receive payments connected to Fenech or the energy project. Fenech denied making any plans to pay any politician or any person or entity connected to them.</p>

<p>Mizzi currently serves as minister for tourism.</p>

<p>The government did not make any immediate comment about Fenech's status.</p>

<p>Australia has revoked the residence visa of a prominent Chinese businessman and political donor who has in the past been linked to a row about the promotion of Chinese interests, the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper reported on Wednesday.</p>

<p>Huang Xiangmo is unable to return to his Sydney home after the government rejected his application for citizenship and revoked his visa while he was overseas, the newspaper reported, citing unidentified sources.</p>

<p>The newspaper did not report a reason for the decision but it cited the Ministry for Home Affairs, which oversees visa applications, as saying Huang was "unfit" for residency.</p>

<p>A ministry representative declined to comment. A spokeswoman for Minister for Immigration David Coleman also declined to comment.</p>

<p>The report comes as Australia and China seek to repair ties that have been strained since 2017 when Australia accused China of meddling in its domestic affairs. China denied doing so.</p>

<p>Huang, who founded the Chinese property developer Yuhu, was not available for comment. The newspaper said he went to Thailand last month and it was not clear where he was on Wednesday.</p>

<p>The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), citing unidentified sources, said Huang would not be allowed to re-enter Australia.</p>

<p>Huang has in recent years emerged as one of Australia's biggest political donors.</p>

<p>He rose to prominence after an influential opposition lawmaker was in 2017 forced to resign after allegations emerged that he was linked to Chinese-aligned interests.</p>

<p>The opposition member, Sam Dastyari, sought to encourage a senior politician not to meet a Chinese pro-democracy activist opposed to Beijing's rule in Hong Kong in 2015.</p>

<p>Dastyari was also recorded as warning Huang that his phone may be tapped.</p>

<p>Dastyari also appeared on a videotape, standing next to Huang, appearing to endorse China's contentious expansion in disputed areas of the South China Sea, against his party’s platform.</p>

<p>Australia, despite moving to repair its relationship with, China, has passed a series of tough new bills that are designed to limit offshore influence, legislation widely seen as aimed at China.</p>

<p>In 2018, Huang paid nearly A$1 billion ($715 million) for two Australian projects owned by Chinese conglomerate Dalian Wanda Group.</p>

<p>Minister for Foreign Affairs Marise Payne, asked about the newspaper report, said she "understood that a high-profile individual" had had their visa cancelled.</p>

<p>"I don’t expect it to be the subject of a bilateral discussion," Payne told the ABC when asked if she feared the issue would have an impact on relations with China.</p>

<p>"We have a good relationship with mutual respect."</p>

<p>The remittances into these accounts came allegedly from Matrix Group Ltd, UHY Saxena and Associates, Tiramisu Holdings Inc and Tanay Holdings Ltd, claimed the government dossier.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, twenty-seven defaulting businessmen and economic offenders have fled the country in the last five years, Parliament was informed on Friday.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Interpol has been approached to issue red corner notices (RCNs) against 20 persons out of these 27, Minister of State for Finance Shiv Pratap Shukla said in a written reply in Lok Sabha.</p>

<p>He further said Interpol has already issued RCN against eight persons who have fled the country and extradition requests have been sent in the case of six.</p>

<p>The government, he said, has also advised the public sector banks to obtain a certified copy of the passport of promoters/directors and other authorised signatories of companies availing loan facilities of more than Rs 50 crore.&nbsp;</p>
