"We have one of the largest defence budgets in Europe and in 2020 we announced the biggest increase to defence spending since the Cold War," said a government spokesperson while speaking to Reuters.

The spokesperson further stated that any increase in the defence budget will be considered in the next integrated review's part, which will also lay out the country's foreign policy, security and defence priorities in the spring.&nbsp;

"Just calling to say thank you for all the work you do at smart play. What you do is fantastic. It makes a big difference to people who need that extra bit of help. You know, we're delighted to fund work like yours and in particular at this time of year is that it makes a big difference. I just want to call and say thank you to you for that," Sunak said.

"it means so much to me to get that feedback, it really does. And I hope you have a lovely Christmas, your family too and everyone else. And thank you again. It's just such a shock," responded Mitchell.

His calls come as strikes by unions representing workers in sectors including rail, health and border staff continue to cause disruption across the country.

Trevethick reportedly runs a brewery on Scilly. She went to a local hospital along with her partner where she began experiencing labour. 'I felt super safe': British woman reacts after giving birth in helicopter

The United Kingdom's (UK) economy has contracted more than previously thought in the third quarter of this year, putting the country at the bottom of the G7 in terms of quarterly growth.&nbsp;

According to data presented by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) on Thursday, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP)&nbsp;fell by 0.3% in the third quarter against the estimated 0.2% decline. Growth figures for the first half of this year were also revised down, with figures showing the country mustered growth of just 0.6% in the first quarter and 0.1% in the second quarter. The office also reported that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is now estimated to be 0.8% below pre-pandemic levels.&nbsp;

Darren Morgan, director of economic statistics at the ONS, said the office's revised figures showed that the UK's economy performed slightly less well over the last year than previously estimated, with manufacturing and electricity generation notably weaker, according to a report by the Associated Press.

Royal Mail Workers are also planning to go on a strike on December 9, 11, 14, 15, 23 and 24, which are going to affect deliveries with the last days for sending Christmas posts becoming December 16 for first class and December 12 for second class.

For the first time in 40 years, strikes were also carried out by teachers in Scotland after talks over pay deal failed. On November 24, a member of the largest teaching union in Scotland walked out of the classrooms.&nbsp;

The United Kingdom announced Friday (December 9) that in collaboration with Italy and Japan, it will work to develop next-generation fighter jets, designed to rival enemy warplanes.&nbsp;All three nations will work on an advanced front-line fighter, that is expected to come into operation by 2035. British-led Future Combat Air System project, also known as Tempest, will be combined with Japan's F-X programme in a venture called the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP).&nbsp;

Reports have mentioned that the defence partnership is aimed at making jets with the capability of eclipsing war warplanes currently employed by countries like China, Russia and even the United States.&nbsp;

According to Japan's Ministry of Defence, Britain's BAE Systems PLC, Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Italy's Leonardo will lead the design of the aircraft. The jet is expected to have advanced digital capabilities in AI and cyber warfare.&nbsp;

Although, the statement didn't mention Russia and China, veiled remarks aimed at both nations as it said the new fighter jet is needed because "threats and aggression are increasing" to counter the "rules-based, free and open international order".&nbsp;

Part of the statement read: "We are committed to upholding the rules-based, free and open international order, which is more important than ever at a time when these principles are contested, and threats and aggression are increasing."&nbsp;

All three nations will work on an advanced front-line fighter, that is expected to come into operation by 2035. British-led Future Combat Air System project, also known as Tempest, will be combined with Japan's F-X programme in a venture called the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP). Reports have mentioned that the defence partnership is aimed at making jets with the capability of eclipsing war warplanes currently employed by countries like China, Russia and even the United States. According to Japan's Ministry of Defence, Britain's BAE Systems PLC, Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Italy's Leonardo will lead the design of the aircraft. The jet is expected to have advanced digital capabilities in AI and cyber warfare. The power to call a referendum was "reserved" to the UK parliament, and therefore "the Scottish parliament does not have the power to legislate for a referendum on Scottish independence", Supreme Court president Robert Reed said while delivering the unanimous ruling, reported Sky News.

Nothing much has really changed since those glory days of Great Britannia! The general public is still in awe of this racist and colonial institution, oblivious to its past history of murder, looting, and genocide in all its colonies. This institution is alone responsible for the murder and killing of over 100 million innocent civilians in their former colonies including India and the indigenous populations of America, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia. This ‘achievement ‘is conveniently excluded from their history books taught at schools and other educational institutions. That’s why it comes as no surprise when well-meaning, “educated” Brits are shocked at any view or opinion that says otherwise. The queen is looked upon as God, to be fair she is the equivalent of the Roman Catholic Pope, being self-appointed the Head of the Church of England. The trappings of the Monarchy are embedded in every aspect of British society and culture and by royal decree, laws are made and changed while Prime Ministers are appointed and sacked. All in what the British believe is a functioning democracy where one family holds sway over all.

The much loved “Great Britain” name tag will go soon, along with the monarchy and the establishment who have ruled and maximised their wealth for centuries at the expense of the poor and working classes on this island and around the world during colonisation. Even during the Empire days citizens on these islands were living in squalor and abject poverty.&nbsp;Many people want to go back to the glory days of this country, where rivers were flowing with milk and honey and the “we are the good guys” image which is so conditioned and brainwashed into the minds of the British psyche from early childhood. Accurate history is not taught in this country but a very sanitised, pleasant version of it, mainly focusing on the grandeur of the monarchy for diversions and World War II.

This nation removed the kings and queens of the lands it conquered through deceit in the name of bringing democracy to the world but is still hanging on to its outdated traditions! A beacon of democracy that conveniently does not have a written constitution. Such hypocrisy! But why are we still so gullible and can’t see the obvious truth of where the power lies in this nation? Many people I personally know, support this outdated practice and institution and the cost to us the taxpayers. These very same individuals slam people on benefits, migrants, and food-banks, but are happy to give millions away to the queen and the extended royal family all in the name of tradition or a tourist attraction! This always proved my point that education does not necessarily mean you are aware or informed but conditioned to believe in an obvious lie. People want to go back to the glory days of the empire without fully understanding the true meaning of this statement. This country is responsible for all the major flashpoints around the world today. That’s the legacy of the empire and the monarchy, having committed mass genocide, looting of resources, and cultural decimation from which these countries are yet to recover.

Politicians who get elected see themselves as servants to the queen, not the electorate who voted for them in the first place. They take an oath to protect the queen (now king! And their heirs and successors!) Unbelievable! They then go about maintaining the status quo at the expense of people dying because of benefit cuts, food banks or parents having to starve in order to feed their children. 

It’s time for action and it already looks like the new King will not have an easy ride like his mother the “Beloved Queen”. Here is hoping that real change finally comes to the land that decimated countries around the world in what is known as its glory days of the empire where the sun did not set; but now has to, in order to move forward as a truly democratic nation.

This ‘achievement ‘is conveniently excluded from their history books taught at schools and other educational institutions. That’s why it comes as no surprise when well-meaning, “educated” Brits are shocked at any view or opinion that says otherwise. The queen is looked upon as God, to be fair she is the equivalent of the Roman Catholic Pope, being self-appointed the Head of the Church of England. The trappings of the Monarchy are embedded in every aspect of British society and culture and by royal decree, laws are made and changed while Prime Ministers are appointed and sacked. All in what the British believe is a functioning democracy where one family holds sway over all.&nbsp;

The much loved “Great Britain” name tag will go soon, along with the Monarchy and the establishment who have ruled and maximised their wealth for centuries at the expense of the poor and working classes on this island and around the world during colonisation. Even during the Empire days citizens on these islands were living in squalor and abject poverty.&nbsp;Many people want to go back to the glory days of this country, where rivers were flowing with milk and honey and the “we are the good guys” image which is so conditioned and brainwashed into the minds of the British psyche from early childhood. Accurate history is not taught in this country but a very sanitised, pleasant version of it, mainly focusing on the grandeur of the monarchy for diversions and World War II.&nbsp;

This nation removed the kings and queens of the lands it conquered through deceit in the name of bringing democracy to the world but is still hanging on to its outdated traditions! A beacon of democracy which conveniently does not have a written constitution. Such hypocrisy! But why are we still so gullible and can’t see the obvious truth of where the power lies in this nation? Many people I personally know, support this outdated practice and institution and the cost to us the taxpayers. These very same individuals slam people on benefits, migrants and food banks, but are happy to give millions away to the queen and the extended royal family all in the name of tradition or a tourist attraction! This always proved my point that education does not necessarily mean you are aware or informed but conditioned to believe in an obvious lie. People want to go back to the glory days of the empire without fully understanding the true meaning of this statement. This country is responsible for all the major flashpoints around the world today. That’s the legacy of the empire and the monarchy, having committed mass genocide, looting of resources and cultural decimation from which these countries are yet to recover.

Politicians who get elected see themselves as servants to the queen, not the electorate who voted for them in the first place. They take an oath to protect the queen (now king! And their heirs and successors!) Unbelievable! They then go about maintaining the status quo at the expense of people dying because of benefit cuts, food banks or parents having to starve in order to feed their children. 

It’s time for action and it already looks like the new King will not have an easy ride like his mother the “Beloved Queen”. Here is hoping that real change finally comes to the land that decimated countries around the world in what is known as its glory days of the empire where the sun did not set; but now has too, in order to move forward as a truly democratic nation.

Why the English monarchy has no place in 21st century Britain

Britain's intelligence agencies viz.&nbsp;GCHQ, MI5 and MI6 have introduced a significant change in their spy recruitment policies. Reportedly, the three intelligence agencies will also be hiring spies that do not have British parentage.&nbsp;

Stating the rule change was meant to reflect diversity, the agencies made a joint statement.&nbsp;

“We perform best in our mission to keep the nation safe and further the UK’s interests when we reflect the diversity of the country we serve,” said a spokesperson on behalf of the agencies.&nbsp;

“By recruiting people from the widest possible range of backgrounds, we can innovate, challenge established ways of thinking and welcome the very brightest and best people to join us."&nbsp;

The news of Sunak's elevation as the PM came on the day of Diwali, the auspicious Hindu festival of light. US President Joe Biden was celebrating the festival in the White House with&nbsp;Indian Americans but managed to extend his congratulatory message to Sunak.&nbsp;

“We got the news that Rishi Sunak is now the PM of the UK. Tomorrow, he goes to see the king (King Charles). It is pretty astounding, a ground-breaking milestone and it matters,” said Biden, according to ANI.&nbsp;

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had not released any statement congratulating Sunak at the time of publishing but Oleksandr Kornienko, the first deputy chairman of Ukraine's parliament said Britain finally had some stability.&nbsp;

As the UK political crisis deepens, New York-based credit rating company Moody's Investors Service has downgraded the country's economic outlook from 'stable' to 'negative'.

Citing&nbsp;the lack of political stability in the UK as one of the fundamental reasons for shooting down the rating, Moody's <a href="https://www.moodys.com/research/Moodys-changes-the-outlook-on-the-UK-to-negative-affirms--PR_469280">released </a>the outlook on Friday.

The agency said heightened&nbsp;unpredictability in policymaking with inflation touching new highs and growth prospects looking dim added to the overall decision.&nbsp;

"Risks to the UK's debt affordability from likely higher borrowing and risk of a sustained weakening in policy credibility," it said citing&nbsp;another reason for the downgraded outlook.&nbsp;

The agency said that the reversal will only be possible if the UK government is able to inspire confidence with its policymaking measures.

"The evolution of policymaking, and the UK government's ability to engender confidence in its commitment to fiscal prudence, will be a material consideration for Moody's in resolving the negative outlook."

With the winter season fast approaching and utility bills soaring, inflation has gone up manifolds. Most of the countries across Europe do not have energy reserves that can last them the entire season.&nbsp;

The chancellor left the US capital a day earlier than planned, signalling that&nbsp;a U-turn over UK's plan to scrap a rise in corporation tax is on the cards.

The reports said that PM Truss was considering reversal of more of the controversial "mini-budget". Sky News, citing sources, said that discussions were on in Downing Street about scrapping elements of the plan that caused turmoil in financial markets.

The Sun newspaper said that Truss was considering allowing a rise in corporation tax to take place next April. Truss had promised to halt this in her bid to be prime minister.

Finance minister Kwasi Kwarteng, asked repeatedly in an interview with BBC television whether the reports of a change of policy on corporation tax were accurate, said that he was focused on his growth plan.

"Our position hasn't changed. I will come up with the medium-term fiscal plan on the 31st of October, as I said earlier in the week, and there will be more detail then," he said on the sidelines of International Monetary Fund meetings.

Kwarteng is due to announce his medium-term budget plans on Oct. 31, alongside independent fiscal forecasts.

Truss faces huge pressure from within her own Conservative Party to change her push for 43 billion pounds ($48.8 billion) of unfunded tax cuts. Polls have shown that Truss' support has collapsed.

Some lawmakers have pondered whether she should be removed from the job only a month after becoming Britain's fourth prime minister in just six years since the Brexit referendum.

Kwarteng, asked by the BBC about any discussions going on back in London to tear up his package, said: "I speak to the prime minister all the time, and we are totally focused on delivering the growth plan."
