The British government said on Tuesday (April 11) that they will encourage smokers to swap cigarettes for "vapes". The authorities will also offer financial incentives to pregnant women to make the change in what will be a world first.&nbsp;

The government is aiming to reduce the number of smokers across the nation. Britain hopes to meet the target of becoming the smoke-free by 2030 and reduce smoking rates to 5 per cent or less.

The Downdetector website had received over 28,000 reports of Virgin Media outages as of Tuesday morning, most of which were from customers who said their internet was down, as reported by Reuters.&nbsp;

Customers, particularly those dependent on internet and phone connections for work, were suffering as a result of the issue, which's cause was not immediately clear.

A British man of Pakistani origin was found guilty of multiple terrorism-related offenses by a court in Britain as jihadist terrorism and dissemination of extremism continue to mount a challenge for law enforcement authorities in the United Kingdom.&nbsp;

The man, identified as 49-year-old Asad Bhatti, from southeast England's Redhill town in Surrey was arrested and charged in January 2021. Based on what Bhatti revealed to the police after his arrest, a search operation was carried out in the area which led police to a bomb-making facility.

Court found Bhatti guilty on&nbsp;two counts of possessing an article for the purpose of terrorism. He was also found guilty of three counts of making or possessing an explosive substance under suspicious circumstances by the Old Bailey court in London on Friday.

The quantum of the sentence against Bhatti is scheduled&nbsp;to be pronounced on April 25 by London's Old Bailey court. Until then, he will remain in the police custody.

"The case against Bhatti was strong, I am glad the jury found him guilty today," Detective Chief Superintendent Olly Wright, Head of Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE) in Surrey, told a group of reporters.

"There was clear evidence of his extreme Islamist ideology and the danger he posed. He clearly hated those whom he considers do not follow his version of Islam, and he made a range of derogatory comments towards those he considers to be 'unbelievers'," he said.

"I am especially grateful to the member of the public who recognised the risks and took steps to call the police. This allowed Counter Terrorism Policing to stop Bhatti’s progress in manufacturing explosive devices which could otherwise have caused significant harm to the public," Wright added.

Following the discovery, Bhatti was arrested and a police search was carried out at his home in Redhill and at a storage container he rented.

In the storage unit, officers found chemicals, chemistry equipment, electronic circuitry, and even an improvised explosive device.

At his property, items including a USB stick containing guides to make explosive devices were seized, the court was told.

He had spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations on making explosives, shooting techniques, and hand combat, along with manuals published by others on making explosives and combat.

Britain: Pakistan-origin man found guilty of terrorism after police discover bomb-making facility

Britain's lawmakers on Friday said that the Royal Mail has "systemically failed" to fulfil mail delivery requirements, as they appealed to regulator Ofcom to investigate the postal operator.

"We believe that Royal Mail has systemically failed to deliver against parts of its universal service obligation," stated a report issued by the cross-party Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committee.

The Royal Mail is required to deliver letters six days a week in its one-price-goes-anywhere postal service.

The committee, however, stated it has "widespread evidence" which shows that Royal Mail has been prioritising parcels over letters, without accepting the policy change.

"We recognise the challenges of both the pandemic and ongoing industrial action, but the evidence we have suggests this systemic failure has been taking place before, between and during these events," it said.

The cross-party parliamentary committee has appealed to Ofcom to start an enforcement investigation which will report back by the year's end.

"Ofcom must start enforcement proceedings to ensure everyone gets a consistent service wherever they are," stated committee member and opposition Labour MP Darren Jones.

He added, "Otherwise, what's the point in having a universal service obligation at all?"

Established more than 500 years ago, Royal Mail has gone through turbulent times in the past decade, especially during its privatisation in 2013.

During the coronavirus pandemic lockdowns, the former state-run operator received a boost due to an increase in the volume of parcels but since then, it has fallen sharply.

The 18th Century pub has been the region's popular attraction, as visitors continue to flock to see the distinctive leaning building.

The building was first built as a farmhouse in 1765, however, because of mining in the area during the early 19th Century, the building's one side began to sink gradually.

The building is slanted to the left and has wonky windows and crooked doorways. The pub's inside is even slanted and has an uneven bar where coins appear to roll uphill in a case of optical illusion.

Marston's this week announced that it has instructed a business property adviser for selling the Crooked House as well as the seven other freehold pubs spread across the West Midlands.

Students in Britain protest against schools partly banning use of toilets

Every professional seeks to have some sort of work-life balance, especially after the pandemic-induced compulsory work-from-home culture, impacting employees' mental health. In pursuit of a more fitting work culture which addresses the underlying issue of burnout and fatigue, employees of at least 61 British companies tried out a four-day working week culture, one which is deemed to be the world's largest one, as per Autonomy, a British-based research organisation.&nbsp;

The trial involved dozens of employees working for an average of 34 hours across four days between June and December 2022.&nbsp;During the four-week work trial, the employees earned the same salary as they would get otherwise. As exciting as the trial itself is, the result of it was even more impactful and thrilling.&nbsp;

Out of these 61 firms where the employees tried out four-days work week, at least 56 companies, which is 92%, chose to stick with the same work week culture.&nbsp;

A total of 18 of these firms even chose to make this a part of their permanent work culture. At least 2,900 employees spanning different sectors became part of the trial. It catered to sectors ranging from finance company Stellar Asset Management to digital manufacturer Rivelin Robotics and a fish-and-chip shop in the coastal town of Wells-next-the-sea.

One of the most important and interesting key findings of the survey was that the productivity of the employees was maintained during the trial period.&nbsp;Additionally, the employees were also less likely to quit their jobs, in view of the satisfactory work-life balance.&nbsp;

The priority for some of these employees was more days off and not more money. Four-day work week turned out to be much more satisfying for them. As per the survey, a total of 15 per cent of these employees said no amount of money would induce them back to a five-day week.

In pursuit of a more fitting work culture which addresses the underlying issue of burnout and fatigue, employees of at least 61 British companies tried out a four-day working week culture, one which is deemed to be the world's largest one, as per Autonomy, a British-based research organisation. The trial involved dozens of employees working for an average of 34 hours across four days between June and December 2022. During the four-week work trial, the employees earned the same salary as they would get otherwise. As exciting as the trial itself is, the result of it was even more impactful and thrilling. A total of 18 of these firms even chose to make this a part of their permanent work culture. At least 2,900 employees spanning different sectors became part of the trial. It catered to sectors ranging from finance company Stellar Asset Management to digital manufacturer Rivelin Robotics and a fish-and-chip shop in the coastal town of Wells-next-the-sea. Additionally, the employees were also less likely to quit their jobs, in view of the satisfactory work-life balance. The priority for some of these employees was more days off and not more money. Four-day work week turned out to be much more satisfying for them. As per the survey, a total of 15 per cent of these employees said no amount of money would induce them back to a five-day week. The UK police on Monday identified the body of Nicola Bulley, weeks after she disappeared on January 27. The mother of two reportedly went missing after she dropped her kids off at school and went for a walk with her dog. Moments later, her dog was seen roaming alone.&nbsp;

Assistant Chief Constable Peter Lawson of the Lancashire Police said, "sadly, we are now able to confirm that yesterday we recovered Nicola Bulley from the River Wyre," close to where she was last seen. He added that the family of the 45-year-old woman has been informed.&nbsp;

The case has since grabbed headlines. Even UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has expressed concerns over what has now become one of Britain's most famous missing cases.&nbsp;

Over three weeks ago, Bulley was last seen after she dropped her children off at school. Daughters, one six years old and the other nine years old, were dropped off at school by their mother. Later, she was spotted walking her dog.&nbsp;

Soon after she disappeared, her dog, springer spaniel Willow, was spotted along with her phone. As per reports, her phone, which was kept on a bench by a steep riverbank, was still connected to a work conference call.

A body found at River Wyre&nbsp;

In the latest development into the case, the Lancashire police force received a call at 11.36 am on Sunday and was informed of a body found in the River Wyre. The call made police suspicious as River Wyre, which is close to Rawcliffe Road is within a mile of where Bulley was last seen.

The police sprung into action and carried out an underwater search.&nbsp;

Lancashire constabulary had said in a statement, "an underwater team and specialist officers have subsequently attended the scene, entered the water, and have sadly recovered a body. No formal identification has yet been carried out, so we are unable to say whether this is Nicola Bulley at this time."&nbsp;

However, later in the day, a formal identification of the recovered body was made and it turned out to be of Bulley's.&nbsp;

Conspiracy theories and public glare&nbsp;

Nicola Bulley's strange disappearance three weeks ago has invited an unprecedented glare from amateur detectives and YouTubers alike. Amid a plethora of conspiracy theories and heinous speculations by social media users, the Lancashire police have issued dispersal notices to remove them.&nbsp;

As per the dispersal order, anyone who was clicking photos or taking videos in the area was asked to be sent away. These wild speculations have caused great stress to Bulley's family.&nbsp;

&nbsp;“We are also aware of a number of grossly offensive comments being made on social media and elsewhere. We are looking into these and will not hesitate to take action where appropriate," the police said.&nbsp;

Desperate attempts to find the missing mother

In the hope to get any information about the missing mother, almost every lamp post carried missing posters requesting to inform police about any information about Bulley.&nbsp;

“Procedures to identify the body are ongoing. We are currently treating the death as unexplained. Nicola’s family have been informed of developments and our thoughts are with them at this most difficult of times. We ask that their privacy is respected," the polce said.&nbsp;

Lancashire force rebuked for revealing Bulley's personal details&nbsp;&nbsp;

The news of a body being found in River Wyre came three days after the Lancashire force released a statement that Bulley had 'significant issues with alcohol' and 'ongoing struggles with the menopause'.&nbsp;

The police were rebuked for releasing this statement which led to her being classed as 'high-risk' as she continues to remain missing.&nbsp;

Upon receiving criticism, the police clarified that they released the statement to put an end to 'further speculation or misinterpretation'.

Home Secretary Suella Braverman expressed her concerns over the police statement revealing personal information about Bulley. She demanded answers from Lancashire Police.&nbsp;

“These are heart-breaking and distressing developments. My thoughts remain with Nicola’s family at this extremely difficult time," she tweeted.

Rishi Sunak while speaking with Sky News said, "I agree with the Home Secretary Suella Braverman in like her I was concerned that that private information was put into the public domain and I'm pleased that the police are looking at how that happened in the investigation." 
"Obviously, my thoughts are with Nicola's friends and family and the focus must now be on continuing to try to find her," he added.&nbsp;

Nicola Bulley's partner said he had "no words right now, just agony."&nbsp;While speaking to Sky News, Ansell added, "We're all together, we have to be strong." Bulley's partner also visited the scene with investigators earlier in the month.&nbsp;

Peter Faulding, chief executive of Specialist Group International, whose dive team joined the search for a number of days using sonar scanners, said last week that he did not think Bulley was in the river. However, he added that he changed his mind after hearing of Bulley’s issues with alcohol and her mental health.
