Italy's Justice Ministry has issued an international arrest warrant for former AC Milan and Brazil striker Robinho after the country's top court confirmed his conviction for rape, a ministry spokesman said on Wednesday.

The ministry has asked the global police agency Interpol to enact the warrant.

Robinho, whose full name is Robson de Souza, lives in Brazil. The South American country does not extradite its nationals, which means Robinho would only face arrest if he travelled abroad.

&nbsp;A group of&nbsp;Brazilian President Jair&nbsp;Bolsonaro's&nbsp;allies&nbsp;allegedly&nbsp;is coordinating a disinformation campaign and targeting of his political rivals ahead of the Oct. 2 presidential election, according to a public extract from a federal&nbsp;police&nbsp;probe.

The partial report, which became publicly accessible after it was sent to the Supreme Court on Thursday, is from the so-called "Digital Militias" investigation led by Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, a crusading justice who has headed previous high-profile probes into&nbsp;Bolsonaro&nbsp;and his supporters.

Moraes, accused by&nbsp;Bolsonaro&nbsp;of favoring leftist front-runner Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in this year's presidential election, is probing what lead&nbsp;police&nbsp;investigator Denisse Ribeiro has described as a "cabinet of hate" comprised of supporters of the far-right populist who are&nbsp;allegedly&nbsp;flooding social media with&nbsp;fake&nbsp;news&nbsp;and trashing&nbsp;Bolsonaro's enemies.

Ribeiro said in the partial report that there is evidence to suggest an "orchestrated action" to identify targets, and create and spread disinformation for "ideological, party-political and financial gains."

The partial report has not yet named any of the people&nbsp;allegedly&nbsp;engaged in the&nbsp;fake&nbsp;news&nbsp;effort.&nbsp;Bolsonaro's office did not respond to a request for comment.

Brazil had to settle for a 1-1 draw at Ecuador in a remarkable World Cup qualifier on Thursday after Felix Torres` header 15 minutes from time canceled out an early Casemiro strike. The incident-packed clash saw both sides have a player sent off inside the first 20 minutes and Brazil goalkeeper Alisson shown a red card on two occasions only for both to be rescinded after consultation with the Video Assistant referee (VAR). ENTHRALLING CONTEST
Ecuador`s match against Brazil ebbed and flowed but was enthralling throughout, especially in the opening half hour.
Already a goal down, Ecuador`s keeper Dominguez was shown a red card for a neck-high challenge that felled Matheus Cunha on the edge of the box. But moments later the numbers were even as Brazil`s Emerson Royal, who was shown a yellow card in the first minute for a firm challenge, got a second for a clumsy intervention.
Brazil goalkeeper Alisson looked like he would be the third player sent off after 25 minutes but following a lengthy delay Colombian referee Wilmar Roldan overturned the decision.

Ecuador, on a home pitch where they had earned 16 of their 23 points ahead of Thursday`s match, thought they might snatch all three points when they were awarded a stoppage-time penalty. Alisson felled Ayrton Preciado in attempting to punch the ball clear and was again shown a red card, but after consulting VAR the referee overturned both the penalty award and red card. The draw saw Brazil extend their unbeaten run in World Cup qualifiers to 31 games to match the South American record they set from 1954 to 1993. Bottom side Venezuela are the only team out of the running to qualify for Qatar, with most sides having four games left to play.

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) said on Friday players must be vaccinated against COVID-19 to take part in this year’s league championship.

The CBF said it was in constant contact with health bodies and had sent an updated list of requirements to member clubs.

"One of these is the obligation to present a full vaccination certificate against COVID-19 to the CBF’s Medical Commission,” it said in a statement.

The top four national divisions kick off in the second week of April.

Brazil coach Tite has said he was not selecting Atletico Madrid defender Renan Lodi for his squad for upcoming World Cup qualifiers because he was not fully vaccinated.

The issue of athletes` stance on vaccines has dominated sports headlines recently after tennis player Novak Djokovic, who is unvaccinated, was deported ahead of the Australian Open.

Brazilian soccer great Pele was discharged from hospital on Thursday after undergoing two days of treatment for cancer, the Sao Paulo clinic that treated him said. Pele, who had a colon tumor removed last year, has been undergoing chemotherapy in the months since.

The 81-year old was admitted to hospital on Wednesday and "was discharged on Thursday and is in a clinically stable condition," said the Albert Einstein hospital in Sao Paulo. Sports TV network ESPN earlier said the former Santos and New York Cosmos player was diagnosed with a tumor in the intestine, one in the liver and the beginning of another in a lung, and would undergo new exams to find other possible cancer spots. The hospital only mentioned his treatment for the "colon tumor." Pele`s business manager did not confirm or deny the ESPN report.

Hundreds of heavily-armed police occupied the Jacarezinho neighbourhood of Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday morning, as authorities vowed a renewed effort to bring security and public services to slums dominated by gangs of drug dealers.

Police drove armoured personnel cars into the neighbourhood, patrolling streets and entering homes in a four-hour operation witnessed by a Reuters photographer.

Governor Claudio Castro said it was the start of a new offensive to transform poor areas known as 'favelas', echoing the rhetoric of the Police Pacifying Units (UPP) that displaced violent gangs in the city ahead of the 2016 Olympic Games.

Rio's Military Police said there were no violent encounters in the operation that had started in two&nbsp;favelas. A spokesperson said a large number of police forces deployed deterred any armed response from the gangs.

Jacarezinho is a sprawling&nbsp;favela&nbsp;on the violent north side of Rio, Brazil's second-largest city, where a police raid in May resulted in 29 deaths, including an officer, and drew sharp criticism&nbsp;from human rights groups.

Police said they plan to occupy other nearby&nbsp;favelas, such as Manguinhos, Bandeira 2 and Conjunto Morar Carioca.

Castro said on Twitter that he would give details on Saturday of further plans to restore security and "improve the lives of those who live in these areas".

The first UPP was set up in Rio's Santa Marta&nbsp;favela&nbsp;in 2008, and dozens more sites were rolled out across the state over the next decade.

The so-called "pacification" project, which focused on community policing to engage with residents and discourage gunfights, was an initial success and won early international praise. But by 2018, the scheme was suffering from budget cuts and inconsistent support from corrupt state governments.

That year, the federal government made a military intervention to take back control of Rio's streets, essentially killing off the UPP project.

Police said they plan to occupy other nearby favelas, such as Manguinhos, Bandeira 2 and Conjunto Morar Carioca. Castro said on Twitter that he would give details on Saturday of further plans to restore security and "improve the lives of those who live in these areas". The first UPP was set up in Rio's Santa Marta favela in 2008, and dozens more sites were rolled out across the state over the next decade. The 2018 election of President Jair Bolsonaro, who has called for more aggressive tackling of organized crime, ushered in a tougher era https://www.reuters.com/investigates/special-report/brazil-police-violence in Rio policing. In 2019, Rio police killed a record 1,814 people.

On Thursday, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro criticized the health regulator Anvisa for approving the vaccination of children aged 5 to 11 years against COVID-19, a day after his health minister announced plans to immunise this age group.

Repeating that his 11-year-old daughter Laura will not be getting any coronavirus vaccine, the vaccine sceptic Bolsonaro said in a radio interview that he had never heard of a child dying from COVID-19.

Bolsonaro said vaccinations could cause side effects in children, but provided no evidence to support his claim. Globally, Anvisa and health regulators have concluded that <a href="https://www.wionews.com/topics/coronavirus-vaccine">COVID-19 vaccines</a> are safe from age 5 onward.

"Are you going to vaccinate your child when the possibility of dying is almost zero? What is behind this? What are the interests of vaccine maniacs?" Bolsonaro stated.

On Wednesday, the country's Ministry of Health announced that it had purchased 20 million pediatric vaccines from Pfizer Inc. A voluntary vaccination program for children 5 to 11 years old will begin by the end of the month.

Later that night, in a social media broadcast, Bolsonaro stressed that vaccinations were not mandatory.

"No town mayor or state governor can prevent a child from going to school for not being vaccinated," he said.

Bolsonaro cautioned that Pfizer has not assumed responsibility for the side effects the vaccine could have on children and that parents should immediately consult a doctor if their child develops chest pains or a lack of breath.

In December 2021, Anvisa approved the Pfizer vaccine for children, drawing harsh criticism from people opposed to vaccines and even from the President, who suggested children only be vaccinated with a doctor's prescription.

However, the ministry discarded the idea as impractical. In a public hearing health experts said that requiring a written prescription would discourage vaccination at a time when the more transmissible coronavirus variant Omicron is spreading in Brazil.
