Curator of the Columbus Zoo’s Congo Expedition region Audra Meinelt reportedly said, "We are proud of the dedication of our care teams who diligently work to provide the gorillas with top quality care and wellbeing while continuing the legacy of the Columbus Zoo’s renown gorilla program."

The zoo invites visitors to see the newly expanded gorilla family starting Monday, July 8, from 11 am to 6 pm&nbsp;throughout July, although baby viewing is not guaranteed as the troop will have access to the indoor habitat and behind-the-scenes areas.

Kelsey Hatcher (32) birthed one daughter on Tuesday (Dec 19), and a second one on Wednesday, the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Hospital said on Friday.

The girls were described as fraternal twins —with rare separate birthdays.

Announcing the arrival of her "miracle babies" on social media, Hatcher praised the doctors, calling them "incredible".

<h2>'Never planned a pregnancy like this'</h2>

In a separate statement in the hospital’s press release, she said, “Never in our wildest dreams could we have planned a pregnancy and birth like this … but bringing our two healthy baby girls into this world safely was always the goal, and UAB helped us accomplish that.”

“It seems appropriate that they had two birthdays, though. They both had their own ‘houses’, and now both have their own unique birth stories,” she said.

Hatcher first found out that she had a double uterus (uterus didelphys) at the age of 17. According to medics, this phenomenon is rare and affects only 0.3 per cent of women.

Furthermore, the chances of becoming pregnant in both uteri —a dicavitary pregnancy —are even rare, the UAB said.

The last time such a medical anomaly occurred was in 2019 in Bangladesh when a woman with two uteruses gave birth almost a month after delivering a premature baby in her other uterus, according to BBC.

This was Kelsey Hatcher’s fourth pregnancy. She has previously delivered babies from one uterus at a time only.

<h2>'Once in a million pregnancy'</h2>

But the fact she came to know about carrying two babies in separate uteruses when she went for an ultrasound check-up after noticing bleeding weeks into the latest pregnancy. She wanted to take preventive measures as there are higher chances of miscarriages for those with double uteruses.

During the appointment, doctors found that Hatcher had an additional foetus forming in her left uterus.

“As soon as she moved the wand to the other uterus, I gasped,” Hatcher said in the hospital press release. “Sure enough, there was another baby. We just could not believe it.”

The birth rate in Russia has been declining since the 1990s and the country has recorded more than 300,000 casualties in the Ukraine war, as per a report published by The Independent. 
 
In the speech, Putin said boosting the country's population will be "our goal for the coming decades". 
 
"Many of our ethnic groups have preserved the tradition of having strong multigenerational families with four, five, or even more children. Let us remember that Russian families, many of our grandmothers and great-grandmothers had seven, eight, or even more children," said Putin, while addressing the council through a video link.

The staff members working at an Ohio zoo were left surprised after a gorilla, which they believed to be a male for four years, gave birth on Thursday (July 20). 
 
Columbus Zoo stated that gorilla Sully, who has been staying with them since 2019, was found with her baby on Thursday. In the blog post, the zookeepers said that the infant "appears to be healthy" and that Sully was appearing to be an excellent mother. 
 
They further said that Sully was always in good health because of which the officials never needed to examine her which led to the confusion.

The birth "was unexpected, yet exciting for the care team and important for the conservation of a critically endangered species", said the zookeepers in a blog post. 
 
Nothing was suspected by the zookeepers till they saw the "believed to be male" gorilla nursing her child. "It's hard to tell the sex of younger gorillas," they stated.

<h2>Gorilla not old enough to show gender</h2>

The zoo authorities said that Sully was old enough to reproduce at eight years of age, however, she was still too young to show any obvious signs of her gender. 
 
"Until about eight, males and females are about the same size, and they don't have prominent sex organs. Males don't develop... their silver backs until 12 or later,” the authorities said. 
 
Generally, gorillas fail to show any signs of pregnancy because of their large abdomens and infant gorillas appear significantly smaller compared to human babies.

The zoo stated that DNA tests would be conducted by them to determine the baby gorilla's father. Sully has been staying in a troop which is led by silverback Mac, 39, and also has two younger males Kamoli, 10, and JJ, six. 
 
Despite the hiccup with Sully, the zoo stated that they are confident about the newborn's sex. "It's a girl! Our team confirmed that visually and with photographs that were also sent to a primate expert at another leading zoological facility," the zoo stated.

Pregnant woman escapes Sudan defying all odds, gives birth to 'Miracle Baby'

A couple gave birth to a set of 'MoMo' twins, also called Mono Mono or monoamniotic-monochorionic twins, in the United States in an extremely rare case.

The couple, Britney and Frankie Alba had their first twins just a year before in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. In just two years, from a family of two, they became a family of six members.

Six months after Britney gave birth to her identical twin boys, Levi and Luka, she discovered that she was pregnant again with extremely rare MoMo twins, Lydia and Lynlee, who were delivered by C-section.

'MoMo' twins share the same fluid, placenta and amniotic sac in the womb. There is a high risk of complications like stillbirth, miscarriage and fetal anomalies in such pregnancies.

This kind of twinning is one of the rarest cases in pregnancy and is found in less than 1 per cent of all the births that take place in the US.

"After all that time in the hospital, it didn’t seem real like it was actually going to happen. And then when it actually happened and we were all home, it was surreal,” Britney said.

The babies' dad Frankie, expressing his happiness, said, "It was definitely a very challenging time in our lives and in our marriage, but it was definitely worth it. We love it, we love the time with our family, and we cherish every moment."

As per the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), the doctors admitted Britney to the High-Risk Obstetrics (HRO) unit of the hospital and she remained there for 50 days.

"The team conducted ongoing prenatal care, including fetal monitoring several times a day to ensure the twins remained well. Given the rarity of her pregnancy, Alba was also visited by medical students, residents and fellows," the hospital stated.

Those exposed to wildfire smoke for at least one day have a higher chance of giving birth prematurely, according to a study of more than 2.5 million women who are pregnant in California.&nbsp;The results, which are still undergoing peer review, were presented on Saturday at the annual conference of the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, and would be published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

To assess the daily amounts of wildfire smoke in the participants' ZIP codes during their pregnancies, the researchers first collected data from hospital records of pregnant women from 2007 to 2012.

The results suggested that just one day of exposure to smoke moderately raised the risk of spontaneous preterm birth — medically defined as before the 37th week of pregnancy.&nbsp;

"Most pregnant persons are having well over one day of exposure, and the chronicity of this exposure, which continues to increase, is really the worrisome relationship with wildfire smoke," said Dr Anne Waldrop, the study’s lead author&nbsp;and a maternal-fetal medicine fellow at Stanford University told NBC news.&nbsp;

During their first or second trimesters, or the four weeks preceding conception, 86 per cent&nbsp;of the pregnant women tested in California, according to Waldrop's research, had been exposed to fine particulate matter from wildfire smoke. Over the course of that period, the research subjects were exposed to smoke on average for more than seven days.

A Pakistani pregnant woman had her head hammered with nails on the advice of a faith healer so that she could give birth to a boy.

The injured woman was admitted at the Lady Reading Hospital in northwestern Peshawar city where she underwent surgery to remove the nail from her skull, according to local media reports.

The woman’s X-ray showed that the five-centimetre (two-inch) nail had pierced the top of the woman’s forehead but missed her brain.

“The family said that she was at home and became unconscious,” Dr Suleman told the Dawn newspaper.

He added that attempts were also made to remove the nail at her home.

"They tried to remove it at home, but could not," he said, adding that doctors successfully removed it after operating on the patient.

The woman is a mother to three daughters. It is said that the victim was allegedly threatened by her husband to give birth to a boy, and that he would abandon her if she gave birth to a fourth girl.

The local media reports claimed that the woman went to the faith healer after it was revealed through an ultrasound that she was about to give birth to a daughter again.

Meanwhile, Peshawar police have taken cognisance of the heinous incident, and are in the process of getting in touch with the couple.

The Capital City Police Peshawar (CCPO) Abbas Ahsan told Geo News TV that the victim support officers have been directed to meet the woman to counsel her and get details of the incident, adding that “a legal action will be taken against her husband and the culprits involved.”

A woman in US gave birth in the front seat of her electric smart car while it was being driven on autopilot. The baby, born on September, is now being termed as the world’s ‘first Tesla baby’.

Philadelphia resident Yiran Sherry, 33, was with her husband, Keating, 34, and three-year-old son Rafa in the car when the courageous delivery took place, reports US-based newspaper the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The couple and their son were stuck in traffic when Sherry’s water broke. With slow traffic and increasing contractions, the couple decided that they could not wait until they reach the hospital.

Keating Sherry put the vehicle on autopilot mode after setting the navigation system to the hospital, which was 20 minutes away from their current location. He then attended to his wife.

“She was squeezing my hand to the point where I thought she was going to shatter it. I was (saying) ‘Yiran, OK, focus on your breathing.’ That was advice to myself, as well. My adrenaline was pumping,” Keating Sherry told the Inquirer.
