Koh Samui, a popular tourist destination located off the east coast of Thailand is facing an acute water shortage. Located in the&nbsp;Chumphon archipelago, authorities are working overtime to ensure that the island, famous for its white sandy beaches, scenic temples and luxury resorts -&nbsp;does not become a 'disaster zone'.&nbsp;

Lack of rain and a large influx of tourists are being dubbed as the primary reasons for the precarious situation. Sutham Samthong, a deputy mayor of Koh Samui has urged the public to use supplies sparingly to get through the difficult period.&nbsp;

“I would like to ask people to save water, use it sparingly. If we help each other, we can go through this,” said Samthong.

“We are not complacent. We are trying to solve the situation. We don’t want the provincial or upper [administration] to announce that Koh Samui is a disaster zone,” he added.&nbsp;

There has been a drastic reduction in the water levels of&nbsp;the Phru Na Muang and Phru Krajud reservoirs and the Hin Lard waterfall, which has contributed to the current predicament. If the water supplies are not sorted quickly, the island only has enough&nbsp;local freshwater supplies for residents for just 30 days.

Currently, the locals are being forced to shell out as much as 250 to 300 baht ($7-$8.5)&nbsp;for about 2,000 litres of water for daily use.&nbsp;

Samthong states that the island needs 30,000 cubic metres of water a day. The authorities are working to bring&nbsp;24,000 cubic metres through&nbsp;an underwater pipeline from Surat Thani on the mainland, while reservoir supplies would be used for the remaining amount. An additional 30,000 cubic metres is also expected to be brought in the boost the supplies, according to&nbsp;Provincial Waterworks Authority.

According to a report in the Guardian, during the pandemic, the number of rooms available on the island, including in hotels and villas fell to just 5,000. However, it has since recovered to 25,000, the same level as 2019.&nbsp;

Videos on social media showed protesters trying to overturn a police car, throwing projectiles and charging at police, while officers in riot gear advanced with shields and beat them back with batons.

Youth activist Patsaravalee ‘Mind’ Tanakitvibulpon, who was at the demonstration, said people were protesting against the APEC summit and Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha.

“The police have overreacted. They are using rubber bullets on us and tried to stop us many times,” he told Reuters.

“The protesters broke the law, physically assaulted police officers,” said an officer, adding that five officers were injured.

This is due to stadium availability and a consequence of the change in location," the BWF informed in a release on Tuesday. The BWF took this decision in consultation with the Chinese Badminton Association (CBA) and agreed to relocate the BWF World Tour Finals 2022 "due to the various challenges brought about by the current pandemic situation", the release. 
 
"BWF would like to thank CBA, Guangzhou City Government, and Guangzhou Sports Bureau for their extraordinary work. BWF would also like to thank the Badminton Association of Thailand for providing a replacement location for the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals 2022 at such late notice," the world governing body for the sport of badminton said in its release.

When trapping snakes, the hotline claims a success record of over 90%, adding that the creatures are sent to the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation so they can be reintroduced in suitable <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/organisations-slam-liz-truss-government-for-plans-to-scrap-pesticide-law-after-brexit-520650">natural surroundings</a>.

There hasn't been a formal census of the snake population in Bangkok, according to Alongkorn Mahanop, a consultant for the Zoological Park Organization, thus no precise figures are available. He calculated that each district of the city likely has close to a thousand snakes, making encounters very likely.

“The high population of snakes in Bangkok is due to its citizens not consuming snakes, meaning the reptiles have no direct predators in the city while having an abundance of prey such as dogs, cats and chickens,” Dr Alongkorn said.

The veterinarian claims that 90% of the snakes found in the capital are boas and the other 10% are pythons.

In the post, mugshots of the puppy are also there with a sign noting that the puppy was "charged" with getting lost. As per media reports, the puppy was later returned to its owner.&nbsp;

However, the social media post that shows cute mugshots of the pup has created a buzz.&nbsp;

A translated version of the caption of the post shared by the Lumpini Police Station stated the story of the dog that was found near a condo.&nbsp;

A 72-year-old man from Bangkok in Thailand finally cremated his wife’s body after keeping it inside a coffin at his home for almost 21 years. Since the death of his wife in 2001, the retired military officer called Chan Chanwatcharakarn has kept her body in their home in the Ben Khen district.

However, according to a report on the Strait Times, Chanwatcharakarn was worried that he would die without holding a funeral for his wife and as a result, he decided to cremate her belongings with the help of a foundation. The foundation helped him in arranging for the cremation and funeral.

According to the report, his wife died from a brain aneurysm after experiencing high blood pressure and her body was taken to Wat Chonpratarn Rangsarit in Nonthaburi to have Buddhist rites conducted. However, he did not cremate her body and kept it in a coffin instead.

&nbsp;The 72-year-old used to speak regularly with his wife’s coffin and kept the coffin completely clean.

The Petchkasem Krungthep Foundation, which helped Chen in completing the last rites of his wife, said that his house was like a ‘storage facility’ with running water but no electricity. They also said that the woman’s body was found in a ‘dry condition’ inside the well-maintained coffin in the house.

After the cremation, the last remains were kept in an urn which Chen said that he will keep with himself till he dies. The foundation is taking care of Chen right now with volunteers giving him food and drink to the 72-year-old after helping him with the cremation of his late wife.

A former employee at Australia’s embassy in Bangkok was indicted over claims that placed multiple spy cameras were in women’s bathrooms at the building, local media reported.

The Royal Thai Police had last month arrested Bank Thamsongsana, an Australian and Thai dual national, who worked as an IT worker at the mission.

He was sacked on January 6, a day after he was arrested. Thamsongsana can face up to10 years in prison if found guilty of sexual and public nuisance offences, The Sunday Morning Herald newspaper reported.

According to reports, a probe had begun last year by the embassy and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Canberra after women employees found a tiny memory card in the bathrooms on the ground floor building.

Following the discovery, over 60 women lodged complaints with Royal Thai Police over concerns that they may have been recorded.

Staff were told the card was empty and no cameras were found installed, but an investigation of other devices turned up vision taken inside one of the bathrooms.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported that the cameras set up in the bathrooms were about the size of two 20-cent pieces, with the capacity to record for about two hours but not to transmit.

The cameras used were not permanently installed, staff have been told, but it’s unclear for how long and with what frequency they were being placed near women’s toilets and showers.

Meanwhile, the incident is being viewed as a major security lapse.

“As this is an ongoing legal matter, the department is unable to comment further. The welfare and privacy of all staff remains a priority for the department and we continue to provide appropriate support,” a spokesperson for Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade was quoted as saying.
