<p>At a Heathrow Airport arrivals gate, an AFP reporter watched as officials from a special task force comprising police, <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/as-us-agents-prepare-to-arrest-thousands-migrants-live-in-fear-235693">immigration agents</a> and charity workers intercepted a family disembarking a flight from Bangalore, India.</p>

<p>A young woman in the group raised red flags because of bruises on her arm, while a 13-year-old girl appeared especially timid both indicators of potential coercion.</p>

<p>After speaking to family members individually, officials were satisfied that the family was traveling to Britain for a funeral and the bruising was due to a traffic accident.</p>

<p>But the officials also learned that the young woman's parents had recently found her a fiance in their home state of Kerala and that he, too, may travel to Britain.</p>

<p>Trained task force officers took the woman aside to brief her on her rights and to press upon her that forced marriage is illegal in Britain.</p>

<p>"She's (now) aware of consent, and that she can withdraw her consent at any time," Detective Sergeant Kate Bridger of the Metropolitan Police told her team after they questioned 72 of the 250 people on the Air India flight.</p>

<p><strong>'No winners here'&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>Britain outlawed forced marriage in 2014, with a maximum jail term of seven years for offenders.</p>

<p>Figures from the interior ministry's forced marriage unit show 1,764 reported cases in 2018 &nbsp;a 47 percent increase from the year before.</p>

<p>The reported cases are thought to be the tip of the iceberg.</p>

<p>Most cases involve Britons being married against their will overseas, mainly in Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan.</p>

<p>So the task force targeted passengers on flights to and from the Indian sub-continent as well as Middle East hub airports.</p>

<p>"It's not just a South Asian problem... it cuts across lots of different cultures and communities too," task force member detective sergeant Trudy Gittins told AFP.</p>

<p>Men were also affected, she said, as well as members of the LGBT community with cases of gay men forced to marry members of the opposite sex by their conservative families.</p>

<p>Cases in Britain have ranged from a two-year-old promised in a religious ceremony to marry into another family, to an 80-year-old Alzheimer's sufferer whose carer forced him into marriage to inherit his estate.</p>

<p>A third of the victims are younger than 18, and three-quarters are girls or women.</p>

<p>West Midlands Police last year secured the first conviction in England for forced marriage, with a woman jailed after her 13-year-old daughter was raped by her "fiance", a relative in Pakistan.</p>

<p>"There are no winners here this was her mum," said Gittins.</p>

<p>Senior officers said the emphasis of this week's operation was on prevention rather than prosecution.</p>

<p>"Our focus is not to criminalize parents or members of the extended family," said the Met's acting chief superintendent Parm Sandhu.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The meeting took place at his house. The strength of the ruling coalition in Karnataka has come down to 105, which is eight short of the half-way mark of 113 for a majority.</p>

<p>Congress MLAs Anand Singh and Ramesh Jarkiholi resigned from the government earlier this week.</p>

<p>"AB being AB, he is a big wicket for them. I think if we get him out pretty early, we stand a good chance of doing well in the game. So we have spoken about it -- about how we're going to try and get him out and hopefully it comes off tomorrow," de Kock told reporters on the eve of the match at Chinnaswamy stadium here.</p>

<p>"Otherwise, we just hope he (de Villiers) makes a mistake," he added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Considering his team's loss to Delhi in Mumbai, de Kock said it will be a big game for Mumbai against Bangalore and they need a win to get going.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Any big tournament around the world, everybody wants to get off to a good start. Coming into this game, knowing we haven't won a game, so it's a big game for us tomorrow. <p>De Kock said going after Bangalore bowlers, including Umesh Yadav, would be a tough proposition.</p>

<p>"I have played against Umesh (Yadav), and a couple of their bowlers. When they are bowling well, they are really hard to get going against. They have got some good bowlers in their team that they rely on so we are just going to go out there and see what happens and hopefully just come out on top," de Kock said.</p>

<p>He said he's determined to score heavily in the tournament.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Playing in this tournament, no matter whom we are playing against or whom I'm playing against, you're always quite determined to score runs whether that's RCB, Delhi, Sunrisers whoever. I am always quite determined to contribute towards the team and just get the team over to a winning side. That's what my goal is and what I wil try and do," he said.</p>

<p>He added Hardik Pandya and Mitch McClenaghan are going to bounce back in the game.</p>

<p>“It would not be right for me to pick and choose where, when and in what format I play for the Proteas. For me, in the green and gold, it must be everything or nothing. I will always be grateful to the coaches and staff of Cricket South Africa for their support through all these years. IPL 2018: Match preview of Rajasthan vs Bangalore

<p>Bangalore defeated table-toppers Hyderabad by 14 runs in a must-win match to stay alive in the Indian Premier League at M. Chinnaswamy stadium.&nbsp</p>

<p>Hyderabad skipper Williamson along with Manish Pandey forged a crucial partnership to take Hyderabad on the verge of another nail-biting win.</p>

<p>However, it was the hosts who clinched the issue to keep their playoff dream alive.</p>

<p>However, the decent start was short-lived as Yuzvendra Chahal drew the first blood for the hosts in the sixth over when Dhawan came down the track but chipped back to the bowler.</p>

<p>With addition of another 17 runs in Hyderabad`s scorecard, AB de Villiers took a stunning catch at deep midwicket to pack back Hales off a Moeen Ali delivery.</p>

<p>Skipper Williamson and Pandey then took the command, taking their side to touch the three-figure mark in 11.3 overs.</p>

<p>Some assumptions in the Surrey dressing room are sure to come crashing down when "proper big dog" Virat Kohli joins the side, said England all-rounder Moeen Ali as he reflected on the Indian captain's much-talked-about county stint next month.</p>

<p>While there aren't too many big local names in the Surrey squad, there are a few international stars in the line-up, headlined by South Africa's Morne Morkel, Tom Curran, Dean Elgar and Australia's Mitchell Marsh and Aaron Finch.&nbsp</p>

<p>"I know a few of the Surrey guys and they are not what people make them out to be a lot of the time. <p>Moeen and Woakes also rejected the perception that the Indian captain is intimidating and aggressive.</p>

<p>"It makes you realise what his life is like. So county cricket will be much more chilled and he'll enjoy that. Playing at smaller grounds, that will be an experience too. Having spoken to him about it, he loves touring other countries ? it's a release."</p>

<p>"Around 30 minutes before the bus leaves for a match, he does what he calls a ?priming session' in the gym. It's like a short burst of Olympic weightlifting.</p>
