<h2>Teen explains how he stumbled upon the ring</h2>

The 13-year-old Yair Whiteson discovered the ring when he was hiking with his father in the region of Haifa.

The father and son were crossing an ancient quarry on Mount Carmel when Yair, who has a passion for collecting interesting fossils and rocks, saw a "small green item" on the ground.

In a statement, Yair said, "It was corroded, and at first, I thought it was just a rusty bolt. I thought about heating it, but then fortunately I understood it was a ring. At home, I saw it had an image on it. At first glance, I thought it was a warrior."

Subsequently, his family reached out to the IAA who sent the artefact&nbsp;to Israel's National Treasures Department.&nbsp;

<h2>All about the Roman-era ring</h2>

According to the researchers, the small ring must have belonged to a girl or woman during the Late&nbsp;Roman&nbsp;period (second to third centuries AD).

The ring was discovered in Khirbet Shalala, which is an archaeological site on a hilltop close to the quarry which is filled with the remains of a Roman-period farmstead.

The settlement is located near the Tamis River in the Banat region of northeastern Serbia, a landlocked country in the Balkans.

A Roman statue, which is approximately 1,800-year-old, was found in the parking lot being built by construction workers in the United Kingdom.

The marble head of a Roman lady was excavated by the digger driver Greg Crawley at 16th-century country estate Burghley House in Peterborough, England, last year when he was carrying out the renovation works.

After two weeks, a bust was also discovered close to the place where the original Roman statue was found. A conservator cleaned, reassembled and examined the relics and said that the sculpture belonged to the 1st century or 2nd century.

As per the experts, an iron dowel was added to the statue which allowed it to remain attached to the pedestal or bust - following the pattern which was adopted by the Italian dealers historically in antiquities during the late 18th century when items were sold to the aristocrats travelling in Italy.

“It is believed that it was during one of the ninth Earl’s two tours to Italy in the 1760s, when he purchased many antiquities, that he brought the sculpture back to Burghley,” said the Burghley House, in a statement.

The ninth Earl of Exeter Brownlow Cecil, an avid traveller and fine art collector, got the title in 1754, as per the estate.

The estate, however, is unsure how the head and bust remained buried in the soil in the parking and said that it is a “complete mystery.”

Burghley House emphasised that “explanations rang[e] from a bungled burglary to someone simply discarding the statue and it later being covered by soil.”

When it comes to Peru, the pre-Hispanic era is mainly dominated by popular conceptions of the Inca culture. These pre-modern cultures and empires fought and lost with the attacking European powers. But the idea that these lands have a rich history beyond what is popularly known remains hidden somewhat.

A team of archaeologists comprising those from Peru and Japan have found a pre-Hispanic, pre-Incan archaeological site dedicated to ancestor worship. The site, found in northern Peru has burial chambers, human remains and ceramic offerings.

"We have discovered an archaeological site of the Wari period with an antiquity of between 800 to 1000 years AD" in the Cajamarca region 900 kilometres (560 miles) north of Lima, Japanese archaeologist Shinya Watanabe told AFP on Saturday.

"Two burial chambers with pits for placing mummies and offerings to the ancestors were found at the site," the expert said.

There are two levels in each of the burial chambers. Both have five niches in the walls which contain offerings that include mollusc shells, ceramic fragments and a tripod dish that has three conical supports.

"It is a great find because the archaeologists were looking for evidence of the Wari culture," said Watanabe, who is a professor at Nanzan University in Japan.

A bundle containing a female character, a black ceremonial vessel from pre-Incan Wari culture, two musical wind instruments made of ceramic and two copper fasteners have also been found.

The discovery has been made in Jequetepeque Valley in San Miguel province in Cajamarca.&nbsp;

"Many people of multiple origins lived here. It was a ceremonial centre dedicated to the cult of the ancestors," Watanabe said.

Judith Padilla, the head of Cajamarca's culture office, said that the findings enable us to understand "the lifestyle and ritual practices" of ancient societies that lived in what is called Peru now.

The Wari Culture survived between the 7th and 13th centuries in present-day Peru. But by the 12th century, they were conquered by the rising Inca empire.

The discovery of the ancestor worship site was made by the Project of Archaeological Investigation (PIA) Terlen-La Bomba and it occupies about 24 hectares (60 acres).

"Two burial chambers with pits for placing mummies and offerings to the ancestors were found at the site," the expert said. There are two levels in each of the burial chambers. Both have five niches in the walls which contain offerings that include mollusc shells, ceramic fragments and a tripod dish that has three conical supports. "It is a great find because the archaeologists were looking for evidence of the Wari culture," said Watanabe, who is a professor at Nanzan University in Japan. A bundle containing a female character, a black ceremonial vessel from pre-Incan Wari culture, two musical wind instruments made of ceramic and two copper fasteners have also been found. The discovery has been made in Jequetepeque Valley in San Miguel province in Cajamarca. "Many people of multiple origins lived here. It was a ceremonial centre dedicated to the cult of the ancestors," Watanabe said. During these ceremonies, "family members or a priest on their behalf" would "attempt to summon the spirit of their dead relatives... and enter an ecstatic state by using opium", Be'eri said.

But he agreed that there was still a lot to learn about its historical use. He remarked, "We can only speculate what was done with opium."

The Crusades were series of conflicts between Christians and Muslim forces over the control of Jerusalem and other parts of the Holy Land. The conflict, which began in 1095 and lasted for centuries, saw European Christian warriors travelling to Middle East/ West Asia to battle with the Muslim forces.

The sword, it is believed, resurfaced due to shifting sands. The sword is about one metre long, something that signifies that the warrior wielding it was physically strong. When found, the sword was covered in sea organisms.

The Israel Antiques Authority (IAA) has been quoted in media reports as saying that the sword would be cleaned, analysed and will be put on public display.

The IAA said the Carmel coast area where the sword was found was used through the centuries by ships seeking shelter from storms due to its many coves, leaving various "rich archaeological finds".

It is believed that the temple depicts a spider god related to rain and fertility.&nbsp;

Experts claim the shrine was constructed by the pre-Columbian Cupisnique culture, which developed along Peru's northern coast over 3,000 years ago.

Its location, says archaeologist Régulo Franco Jordán, has led to archaeologists believe that it was built in honour of water deities.&nbsp;

The published study mentions that the researchers found a man and a woman buried in a ceramic jar. 29 valuable objects were found to have been buried and nearly all of them belonged to the woman.

Among the valuables was a rare type of crown, known as a diadem. It was made of Siver. This diadem has been considered to be reflective of honour the society gave the women.

A high production brewery believed to be more than 5000 years old has been unearthed in Egypt by a team of archaeologists, said the tourism ministry on Sunday.

The brewery likely dates back to the era of King Narmer, it quoted the secretary-general of Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities, Mostafa Waziry, as saying, adding it believed the find to "be the oldest high-production brewery in the world."

King Narmer ruled more than 5000 years ago and founded the First Dynasty and unified Upper and Lower Egypt. Existence of the brewery was known since the beginning of the 20-th century, but the exact location was never precisely determined.

The joint Egyptian-American team "was able to re-locate and uncover its contents", said the statement from the ministry.

According to Waziry, the brewery consisted of eight large areas which were used as "units for beer production".

Each sector contained about 40 earthenware pots arranged in two rows.

A mixture of grains and water used for beer production was heated in the vats, with each basin "held in place by levers made of clay placed vertically in the form of rings".

Archaeologist Matthew Adams of New York University, who heads the joint mission with Deborah Vischak of Princeton University, said studies have shown that beer was produced at a large scale, with about 22,400 litres made at a time.

The brewery "may have been built in this place specifically to supply the royal rituals that were taking place inside the funeral facilities of the kings of Egypt", the statement quoted him as saying.

"Evidence for the use of beer in sacrificial rites was found during excavations in these facilities," the statement said.
