The navy also deployed its warship on Anti Piracy patrol in the Gulf Aden to locate and assist MV Ruen in distress.

“Indian Navy was continuously monitoring the movement of the vessel, which is now heading towards the coast of Somalia,” confirmed an Indian Navy spokesperson.

The vessel, with 18 crew personnel on board, was being monitored by Indian Navy personnel Saturday morning&nbsp;(Dec 16).

India has been monitoring the movements of Chinese naval assets and keeping a close tab on the ongoing China-Pakistan "Sea Guardian 2023" joint exercise.

Government sources told WION they started surveillance "from the moment (Chinese assets) entered the Indian Ocean region to the Malacca Straits," underlining the commitment to "comprehensive maritime domain awareness".

The "Sea Guardian-3" exercise, heralded as the "largest-ever" naval collaboration between China and Pakistan, is taking place from Nov 14 to Nov 16, featuring&nbsp;a strong Chinese presence.

The Chinese flotilla includes naval ships, submarine, and submarine rescue ship along with PLA (Navy) Marines Corps Detachment. The joint manoeuvres, designed to enhance interoperability and cooperation, are set to conclude on November 17.

Gujarat’s Gir National Park is home to the world’s only Asiatic lion population and the only place outside Africa where a lion can be seen in its natural habitat.

There are approximately 600 Asiatic lions left in the Gir Forest.

There are 106 male, 201 female and 213 sub-adult lions in the wilderness of these four districts, Gir National Park’s website has stated.

With conditions deteriorating and Yin Weigyang's health rapidly declining, the ICG formulated a complex plan to effect a rapid and safe evacuation. The vessel, 200 kilometres&nbsp;off the coast of Mumbai in the Arabian Sea, presented formidable challenges, further exacerbated by the cover of darkness.

A statement by the coast guard said, "The exemplary operation undertaken by CG ALH and CGAS Daman during the dark hours enabled the saving of a precious life of a foreign national at sea and reaffirms Indian Coast Guard's commitment&nbsp;to the motto 'We Protect'."

The Indian coast guard used the CG ALH MK-III helicopter for the operation. The advanced aircraft, manned by ICG personnel, executed a precision rescue. The quick response and expert medical care provided aboard the helicopter were instrumental in stabilizing his condition.

Sultan Al Neyadi, who is a UAE astronaut, has clicked images of Cyclone Biparjoy from space. Al Neyadi, who is currently on the longest Arab space mission aboard the International Space Station (ISS), also shared a stunning video that shows the formation of a tropical cyclone over the Arabian Sea.&nbsp;

Earlier this month, Cyclone Biparjoy formed in the Arabian Sea and is now heading north and northeast towards the India-Pakistan coast. Al Neyadi posted the videos and images on his official Twitter handle.&nbsp;

He wrote, "The International Space Station provides a unique perspective on several natural phenomena, which can assist experts on Earth in weather monitoring. Stay safe, everyone!"&nbsp;

<h2>Cyclone Biparjoy&nbsp;latest updates&nbsp;</h2>

More than 100,000 people have been evacuated in India and Pakistan, which are in the expected path of the fierce cyclone. The forecasters warned on Wednesday that the cyclone could devastate homes and tear down power lines and both nations are taking appropriate steps to minimise the damage it may cause to life and property.&nbsp;

While informing about the current situation, Pakistan's climate change minister Sherry Rehman said on Wednesday that 62,000 people had been evacuated from the country's southeastern coastline. Rehman added that 75 relief camps have been set up at schools and colleges.&nbsp;

In India, the Gujarat government said that eight districts in the west Indian state of India are expected to be affected. Fishing operations in the region have been suspended until Friday (June 16) while schools have declared holidays.&nbsp;

India's meteorologists issued warnings as they said that there's a potential for "widespread damage", including the destruction of crops, "bending or uprooting of power and communication poles" and disruption of railways and roads.&nbsp;

Cyclone Biparjoy is in the category of a "very severe cyclonic storm" and is expected to make landfall between Mandvi in India's western state of Gujarat and Karachi in southern Pakistan by Thursday evening.&nbsp;

Experts have noted that the cyclone is expected to have maximum sustained wind speeds of between 125-135 km per hour gusting up to 150 km per hour.&nbsp;

India's weather office said that the storm lay centred about 280 km west-southwest of Gujarat's Jakhau Port and 340 km south-southwest of Karachi on Wednesday morning.&nbsp;

India Defence Minister Rajnath Singh wrote on Twitter that the armed forces were "ready to provide every possible assistance". Singh also mentioned that disaster response teams are also mobilised and a warning of the risk of "flooding in some low-lying areas" is issued.&nbsp;

For the first time in India’s history, five women officers of the Indian Navy’s INAS 314 completed a maritime reconnaissance and surveillance mission onboard&nbsp;a Dornier 228 aircraft in the North Arabian Sea. These officers are based at the Naval Air Enclave in western Gujarat’s Porbandar city.

The aircraft was captained by the Mission Commander, Lieutenant Commander Aanchal Sharma, who had pilots — Lt Shivangi and Lt Apurva Gite — and tactical and sensor officers Lt Pooja Panda and Sub Lt Pooja Shekhawat in her team, according to the statement by the Indian Navy.

INAS 314 is a frontline Naval Air Squadron and operates the state-of-the-art Dornier 228 maritime reconnaissance aircraft.

In the run-up to the historical sortie, the women officers received months of ground training and comprehensive mission briefings.

Considering that this is a first-of-its-kind military flying mission, the Navy expects the achievement to pave the way for women officers in the aviation cadre to assume greater responsibility and aspire for more challenging roles.

“The Indian Navy has been a front-runner in driving transformation in the Armed Forces. Its impressive and pioneering women empowerment initiatives include induction of women pilots, selection of women Air Operations Officers into the helicopter stream and conducting an all-women sailing circumnavigation expedition across the globe in 2018,” it said in the press note.

“It perhaps marks a unique achievement for the Armed Forces that a crew of only women officers undertook an independent operational mission in a multi-crew maritime surveillance aircraft,” it added.

The 19-seater Dornier 228 was developed by the India state unit Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). It is a highly versatile multi-purpose light transport aircraft.

It has been developed specifically to meet the manifold requirements of utility and commuter transport, third-level services and air-taxi operations, coast guard duties and maritime surveillance.

The&nbsp;Dornier 228 is based on German design and production of the 1980s-90s. &nbsp;In&nbsp;1983, HAL bought a production licence and manufactured at least 125 aircraft. In July 2017, 63 aircraft were still in airline service.

Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) and the Customs in a joint operation seized 625 kilograms of drug consignment during a raid in the Northern Arabian Sea which is estimated at PKR 6.25 billion in the international market.

This was a raid over a foreign boat in the Northern Arabian Sea where 625 kilograms of narcotics was seized, said an official of the PMSA.

"In the open sea raid seven smugglers were also arrested," deputy director-general maritime security Shahid Jalil has said, reported ARY News. "

Arrested persons included five foreign nationals and two people having dual nationality," a PMSA official said. "The seized drugs value has been estimated at PKR 6.25 billion in the international market," the official said.

Seized drugs and arrested smugglers have been handed over to customs, PMSA official said.

The anti-narcotics department launched an operation in Surjani Town`s Sector 70-D, recovered drugs and apprehended one person from the crime scene.

Mukesh Kumar Chawla, Sindh Minister for Excise &amp; Taxation and Narcotics Control Department, said the heroin was concealed in plastic bags during a news briefing. According to him, a case has been filed against the accused, and additional investigation is underway.

Pakistan: 625 Kg drug consignment seized during joint operation in Arabian sea

The 32-year-old fisherman from Maharashtra's Palghar district who was killed in firing by Pakistan's maritime security agency (PMSA) personnel off the Gujarat coast on Saturday, was cremated in his native Vadrai village on Tuesday.

The body of Sridhar Chamre arrived in the village around 4 AM on Tuesday. His last rites were performed before 8 AM amid heavy deployment by police, sources said.

The body of the deceased was partially decomposed, they said.

The deceased was one of the crew members of the fishing boat 'Jalpari' which was targeted by the PMSA while it was sailing near the international maritime boundary line in the Arabian sea on Saturday afternoon, police had said.

Sources said Chamre was working in the fishing boat for the last three months. 
His father-in-law said their boat was chased by Pakistani boats for half an hour.

Villagers of Vadrai had observed a bandh on Monday to condemn the killing of Chamre.

He is survived by his parents, wife, and two minor daughters.

"The cache of weapons included dozens of advanced Russian-made anti-tank guided missiles, thousands of Chinese Type 56 assault rifles, and hundreds of PKM machine guns, sniper rifles and rocket-propelled grenades launchers. Other weapon components included advanced optical sights," the Bahrain-based Fleet said in a statement. &nbsp;

It added that the material is in US custody awaiting final disposition, while the original source and intended destination of the materiel is under investigation.&nbsp;

"After all illicit cargo was removed, the dhow was assessed for seaworthiness, and after questioning, its crew was provided food and water before being released," the statement said.&nbsp;

India's coast guard rescued 81 Rohingya refugees from a boat adrift in the Andaman Sea, India's external affairs ministry said on Thursday.&nbsp;

"The engine of the boat failed on February 15 and since then it has been drifting," Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said in a press briefing.&nbsp;

The United Nations on Wednesday raised an alarm of the Rohingya refugees stranded in a boat in the Andaman Sea without food or water.&nbsp;

The boat's engine broke down after four days at sea and the refugees on board had run out of food and water with several people gone ill and facing extreme dehydration at the time they were rescued, the spokesperson added.&nbsp;

Two coast guard ships were sent to rescue the migrants, 23 of whom were children.&nbsp;

"When we learnt of the boat in distress, we immediately dispatched two coast guard ships to provide food, water and medical assistance to the occupants. Seven of them were administered IV fluids," &nbsp;Srivastava said.&nbsp;

About 90 Rohingya refugees started their journey nearly two weeks ago and the UN and rights groups had said that these migrants are suffering from acute dehydration and were ill.

Indian&nbsp;External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar has pitched for connectivity from the "Arabian Sea to the South China Sea" even as New Delhi and Tokyo work together in tandem.

Speaking at an event in Guwahati, Jaishankar said, "approach to create connectivity to and within Assam, beyond to the North-East, then to neighbouring Myanmar and Bangladesh, but eventually push all the way by road, by sea, by air to Vietnam, to Japan."

India is working on a number of connectivity projects to connect northeast with East Asia. These include India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway, with an aim to expand it to Vietnam via Laos.

The Kaladan Multimodal transport link will provide North East access via Sittwe Project and the Paletwa Inland Water Terminal. Work is on BIMSTEC masterplan on transport connectivity via 264 projects.

He lauded India Japan partnership, calling it "natural and close" and said, "India-Japan collaboration has always had a central place in our national modernization and development efforts."
