The Ministry of Health reported that the active cases are currently at 0.39 per cent of the total cases, which is the lowest since March 2020 when the Covid pandemic had started taking over the world.<o:p></o:p>

In addition to this, the recovery rate is also currently at 98.26 per cent, which is the highest since March 2020, as per the officials of Ministry of Health.

India reported 135,918 active cases on Sunday morning, which is the lowest in the past 522 days (17 months).<o:p></o:p>

A total of 11,271 new Covid infections and 285 coronavirus-related were reported in the past 24 hours in India, taking total case tally to 34,437,307 and death toll to 463,530. Nearly 11,376 people recovered from the deadly virus taking the toll of recoveries to 33,837,859.<o:p></o:p>

In the past 24 hours, nearly 5,743,840 Indians got vaccinated, taking total vaccination number to 1,120,103,225.<o:p></o:p>

AQI is likely to marginally deteriorate tomorrow and likely to stay at the Poor to the lower end of the Very Poor category. An increase in wind speed and boundary layer height is forecasted from 26 February. This is likely to influence AQI positively and Poor AQI is forecasted on 26 and 27 February," SAFAR said in its bulletin.

SAFAR, in its health advisory, stated that people should avoid all physical activity outdoors and move activities indoors. It urged the asthmatics to keep medicines handy. Meanwhile, the air quality in Maharashtra`s Mumbai also deteriorated to the `poor` category from the `moderate` category.

High levels of air pollution in Delhi is a year-round problem, which can be attributed to unfavourable meteorological conditions, farm fires in neighbouring regions and local sources of pollution.

According to an analysis by the Council on Energy, Environment and Water, a Delhi-based think tank, transportation contributes the most -- 18 to 39 per cent -- to Delhi's air pollution.

Road dust is the second-largest source of air pollution in the city (18 to 38 per cent), followed by industries (2 to 29 per cent), thermal power plants (3 to 11 per cent) and construction (8 per cent).

The Delhi government on Monday launched a massive anti-air pollution campaign.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said he himself will review the situation daily.

A "green" war room was also inaugurated by Environment Minister Gopal Rai at the Delhi Secretariat to monitor the steps being taken to deal with high levels of air pollution in winters.

The government will also start the spraying of 'Pusa bio-decomposer' solution in non-Basmati rice fields in the national capital, starting October 11.

The solution, experts say, can turn stubble into manure in 15 to 20 days and therefore, can prevent stubble burning.

Starting October 15, stricter measures to fight air pollution will also come into force in Delhi and its neighbourhood as part of the Graded Response Action Plan, which was first implemented in Delhi-NCR in 2017.

These measures include increasing bus and metro services, hiking parking fees and stopping use of diesel generator sets when the air quality turns poor.

When the situation turns "severe", GRAP recommends closure of brick kilns, stone crushers and hot mix plants, sprinkling of water, frequent mechanised cleaning of roads and maximising power generation from natural gas.

The measures to be followed in the "emergency" situation include stopping entry of trucks in Delhi, ban on construction activities and introduction of the odd-even car rationing scheme.&nbsp;

Dr Tarun, a cardiologist at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital said that there has been 10-15 per cent rise in the number of patients suffering from cardiovascular disease as pollution has eclipsed the city for the last few weeks.

"People should remain indoors and increase uptake of anti-oxidants which are found in abundance in fruits. Whenever one has to go out then the usage of N95 mask is mandatory because it is the only mask that protects from PM pollution. People should improve the environment at the homes by having some plants like money plant, snake plant, etc. Finally, if it is affordable then air purifiers should be used in the homes," the doctor added.

Every year, at the end of October, pollution levels spike to inhumane levels in Delhi owing to change in weather and the burning of stubble crop in the neighbouring states of Haryana, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh.

In Gurugram, the AQI showed improvement and clocked in at 301 in the Gwal Pahari area, according to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data. The air quality at this level falls under a 'very poor' category.

There has been a nearly 15 per cent decline in particulate matter 2.5 and 10 levels in Delhi in the last three years and the number of days with good air quality are also on the rise, the government said Friday.

Listing out steps taken by his government to tackle air pollution in Delhi, he said reducing vehicular pollution was one of the important objectives while combating the problem.

The government built two peripheral roads in the last four years so that heavy vehicles do not enter the national capital, he said.

The minister said the Badarpur Thermal Power Plant was also shut down and steps have been taken to bring down instances of stubble burning.

"In the last three years, PM 2.5 and PM 10 levels have come down by 15 and 16 per cent respectively. The 'good', 'moderate' and 'satisfactory' days of air quality too have gone up from 106 in 2016, 152 in 2017 and 159 in 2018," he said.

He said stubble burning instances in the neighbouring states of Delhi too have come down by 15 per cent and the government is working to reduce the instances.

The national capital and its adjoining areas such as Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad and Noida on Saturday woke up to scattered rainfall bringing some respite from the cold wave and air pollution.

Overall air quality over Delhi is in moderate category but it is predicted to enter into the &nbsp;"poor" category on Sunday owing to increased moisture in the air and normalisation of wind speed which was becoming high during the day time for the past few days, according to System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR).

However, moisture is not going to last longer and may precipitate bringing back the AQI to "moderate" from Sunday onwards, it said.

According to Skymet Weather, a private weather forecasting agency, "On March 2, another fresh Western Disturbance will approach the northern hills which will once again induce a cyclonic circulation over the northwestern plains. A trough will also extend from circulation up to south Uttar Pradesh. This trough will be responsible for giving scattered rain and thundershowers over Delhi-NCR on March 2 and 3. Thereafter, the weather systems will once again weaken and move eastwards, leading to commencement of dry and cold northwesterly winds," Skymet added.&nbsp;

Ranchi-new Delhi Garib rath, Islampur-New Delhi -Magadh Express, Vaishali Express were delayed by 2:30 hours each.

Puri-New Delhi Purushottam Express, Darbhanga Delhi Bihar S Kranti, Howrah-New Delhi- Poorva and Azamgarh-Delhi Kaifiyat Express were delayed by 6 hours, 4 hours, 3:30 hours and 2:30 hours, respectively.

The region witnessed a spike in pollution levels during the winter when weather conditions lead to the trapping of pollutants near the surface, and crop residue burning adds to the menace.

For the next couple of days, air quality would continue to juggle between 'satisfactory' and 'moderate' pollution levels. Although rains would fade away in the next 48 hours, the national capital region (NCR) will witness northwesterly winds thereafter."

Conducted by the United Residents Joint Action (URJA), a collective of the city's resident welfare associations and ARK foundation, the survey interacted with 509 residents from Anand Vihar, Ashok Vihar, Dwarka, ITO, Lodhi Road, Patparganj, Rohini, R K Puram, Siri Fort, and Bawana.

The respondents -- minimum 50 people each from the 10 localities -- did not know the meaning of AQI and when the air in the national capital is categorised as good, moderate, poor or severe.

The survey showed that 89 per cent of the respondents were not aware about the air pollution monitors installed in their areas.

The questionnaire was given across the wards spread in a two-km radius around the identified locations where air quality monitors have been installed.

Eighty-eight per cent of the respondents said that they had not seen any LED screens showing the different levels of air quality, the survey said, adding that 71 per cent of the respondents were not satisfied with the air quality in Delhi.

While 58 per cent respondents said that they were affected by pollution, 42 per cent said they were unaffected.

Further, 28 per cent people admitted to facing difficulty in breathing due to <a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/better-not-to-be-in-delhi-it-is-like-a-gas-chamber-supreme-court-191301">poor quality of air</a> and 20 per cent said that they were take extra care of their skin.&nbsp;

Another 16 per cent said they felt depressed due to the blanket of smog enveloping the national capital.

UP air quality: Artificial lungs turn black within 24 hours

A light downpour that hit some areas of the national capital and its adjoining regions failed to improve the overall air quality index on Monday.

Delhi breathed uneasily as the Air Quality Index (AQI) at Mathura Road was docking at 340 in the morning with Particulate Matter (PM) 2.5.&nbsp;

At Dhirpur, the AQI was 372 while in Pitampura area it dipped to 'very poor' category at 385.

The AQI between the range of 51 to 100 is considered as satisfactory, 101-200 is moderate, 201-300 falls under the category of poor.&nbsp;300-400 is considered as `very poor` and range between 401-500 falls under the category as 'hazardous'.

Furthermore, AQI near Pusa Road, Airport Terminal 3 and Chandni Chowk stood at 304, 319 and 307 respectively. The haze and fog will continue to persist during the early mornings and late evenings for the next couple of days.
