With the campaign slogan 'Believe in America,'&nbsp;Romney focused on claiming that debt increased and job growth was slow during Obama's first term.

Obama's campaign, with the slogan 'Forward', mobilised supporters on the progress made during his presidency on women's rights, immigration reform and healthcare. He even took a pro-LGBTQ stance closer to election date.&nbsp;

But on the healthcare front, Obama was often cornered by Romney, who advocated repeal of the Affordable Care Act.&nbsp;

They sparred on these issues at debates, with Obama appearing to be on the backfoot in the first one. But he recovered and improved his performance in later debates.

Well into the last days of campaign, Obama appeared to be on a weak position but his emotional and rousing speeches and Demcratic party's massive ground-level surge campaign managed to convince most voters to give him four more years.&nbsp;

The 2012 election also cemented the role of technology, which was already used in the previous one. Data analytics was used as effectively by Obama campaign as grassroot voter mobilisation.

Romeny somehow did not have the same arsenal when it came to using technology, particularly social media outreach to young voters.

There was also an increase in early voting, which is believed to have helped Obama.

If you look at the results map in this story, it is clear that red states and blue states were practically split through the middle of the nation. Obama won the more populous and coastal states where miniorities and immigrants live in large numbers. Romney won much of the north, middle America and conservative south, often described as the Bible Belt.

Obama did extremly well with youth, Latinos and Blacks, whereas white voters appear to have preferred Romney. In the second term of Obama, that division only worsened, including protests after police killings of Black people.

According to a statement by her office, Feinstein passed away at her home in Washington, DC. “Senator Feinstein never backed away from a fight for what was just and right,” said her chief of staff James Sauls.

It added, “There are few women who can be called senator, chairman, mayor, wife, mom and grandmother. Senator Feinstein was a force of nature who made an incredible impact on our country and her home state.”&nbsp;

In April, she was admitted to the hospital after a “minor fall” at her home and took on lighter duties upon her return and moved around the Capitol using a wheelchair.&nbsp;

Republican US&nbsp;House of Representatives Speaker Kevin McCarthy on Tuesday (Sep 12) said that he is directing a House committee to open an impeachment inquiry into Democratic President Joe Biden over his family’s business dealings. The move, set to further divide American lawmakers as they continue to struggle to pass legislation to avoid a government shutdown, also comes ahead of the 2024 presidential election.&nbsp;

<h2>What did McCarthy say?</h2>

McCarthy said the House Oversight Committee’s investigation so far has found a “culture of corruption” around the Biden family, in reference to the probe sought by Republicans into dealings of the incumbent president’s son, Hunter Biden.&nbsp;&nbsp;

“These are allegations of abuse of power, obstruction and corruption, and they warrant further investigation by the House of Representatives,” said McCarthy, during a press conference at the Capitol.&nbsp;

“I am directing our House committee to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden,” McCarthy said, alleging that the Democratic president had lied to the American people about his son’s foreign business dealings.

He added, “We will go where the evidence takes us.”

The announcement also comes amid mounting pressure on McCarthy from the Republican party’s right flank to take action over Hunter’s business dealings when his father was serving as the vice president under Barack Obama and&nbsp;has also been a constant target for the GOP.&nbsp;

Three committees will begin gathering evidence of possible financial misconduct, said McCarthy. &nbsp;

<h2>McCarthy’s dilemma</h2>

Republicans, who now narrowly control the House, have repeatedly accused Biden of profiting while he served as VP from his son’s foreign business ventures, but have not&nbsp;reportedly provided any substantial evidence for their claim.&nbsp;

While no US president has been removed from office by impeachment, the procedure has now become commonplace.

The House, then controlled by Democrats, impeached former US president and now Republican frontrunner Donald Trump in 2019 and 2021. He was acquitted both times after the impeachment resolution failing to gain a majority in the Senate.&nbsp;

It is reported that some hardline Republicans have threatened to remove McCarthy as the speaker of the House if he does not back impeachment efforts against Biden.&nbsp;

It is also worth noting that McCarthy’s decision was not preceded by a House vote, which is not necessary but can add legitimacy to the impeachment&nbsp;effort.

This also comes as the House Speaker is struggling to pass legislation needed to avoid a federal government shutdown at the end of the month.

The US government funding will end on September 30 – the end of the federal fiscal year – before which Congress must pass new funding bills or risk a shutdown and the interruption of government services.

The move, set to further divide American lawmakers as they continue to struggle to pass legislation to avoid a government shutdown, also comes ahead of the 2024 presidential election. What did McCarthy say? McCarthy said the House Oversight Committee’s investigation so far has found a “culture of corruption” around the Biden family, in reference to the probe sought by Republicans into dealings of the incumbent president’s son, Hunter Biden. “These are allegations of abuse of power, obstruction and corruption, and they warrant further investigation by the House of Representatives,” said McCarthy, during a press conference at the Capitol. “I am directing our House committee to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden,” McCarthy said, alleging that the Democratic president had lied to the American people about his son’s foreign business dealings. He added, “We will go where the evidence takes us.” The announcement also comes amid mounting pressure on McCarthy from the Republican party’s right flank to take action over Hunter’s business dealings when his father was serving as the vice president under Barack Obama and has also been a constant target for the GOP. Three committees will begin gathering evidence of possible financial misconduct, said McCarthy. McCarthy’s dilemma Republicans, who now narrowly control the House, have repeatedly accused Biden of profiting while he served as VP from his son’s foreign business ventures, but have not reportedly provided any substantial evidence for their claim. While no US president has been removed from office by impeachment, the procedure has now become commonplace. The House, then controlled by Democrats, impeached former US president and now Republican frontrunner Donald Trump in 2019 and 2021. He was acquitted both times after the impeachment resolution failing to gain a majority in the Senate. It is reported that some hardline Republicans have threatened to remove McCarthy as the speaker of the House if he does not back impeachment efforts against Biden. It is also worth noting that McCarthy’s decision was not preceded by a House vote, which is not necessary but can add legitimacy to the impeachment effort. This also comes as the House Speaker is struggling to pass legislation needed to avoid a federal government shutdown at the end of the month. The US government funding will end on September 30 – the end of the federal fiscal year – before which Congress must pass new funding bills or risk a shutdown and the interruption of government services. The 60-year-old star recently spoke to BBC's Andre Marr and note that while he's engaged in politics, he is hoping to reduce his workload rather than increase it with a foray into running for office.&nbsp;

The actor, who has been a long time supporter of President Biden, stated that America as a country was still recovering from the damages caused by former President of United States Donald Trump.

Clooney also said that Joe Biden was struggling with Trump's legacy.&nbsp; 
 
"It’s like taking a battered child and thinking everything’s going to be OK his first day in school," Clooney said. 
 
"There’s a lot of things that have to be repaired, there’s a lot of healing that has to happen, and its going to take time." 
 
Clooney said that Trump still remained an integral part of US politics, adding that he hopes Americans have "a little better sense" than to return him to the White House. 
 
"It’s so funny because he was just this knucklehead,’’ Clooney said. "I knew him before he was a president. He was just a guy who was chasing girls. Every time you went out he’d be like, ‘What’s the name of that girl?’ That’s all he was."

Indian-origin Senator Kamala Harris, the Democratic Party's vice-presidential candidate, has urged South Asian women to run for office and take up a leadership role in their communities.

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and his running mate Harris are challenging Republican incumbents President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence in the November 3 US election.

"To all the young women who are watching this, I want you to know that leadership begins the day you are born. You are never too young or too old to be a leader," said Kamala Harris, 55, at an event on Saturday.

Harris has scripted history in US politics after she became the first Indian-American and Black woman to get a major party's vice-presidential nomination.

"So get involved in your community, run for office. Whatever you do, it matters, so just lead," said the senator from California, in an audio message to the virtual event "South Asian Women in Leadership: Ushering a New Wave of Diversity in the Biden-Harris Era" which was organised by South Asians for Biden.

The event was co-hosted by the American Impact Fund and the Indians for Biden National Council.

Panelists at the event included Dr Sadaf Jaffer, the first Muslim woman to serve as a mayor in the US, Kesha Ram, the youngest Indian-American woman to be elected to statewide office and Dr Nina Ahmad, candidate for Pennsylvania Auditor General. Ahmed is vying to be the first woman of colour to hold statewide office.

Harbir Bhatia, who is running to be the first Sikh American woman in the Santa Clara City Council in California, also participated in the event.

Harris described each of the panelists as "incredible trailblazing women who are ready to usher a new wave of leadership."

The session was moderated by Mini Timmaraju, board member of Indian American Impact Fund.

"As you know, my mother Shyamala Harris came (here) from India at age 19 to pursue her dream of curing cancer. She dedicated her life to fighting for the promise of America, just like Joe Biden has," the Indian-origin senator said.

Kamala Harris said Biden's tenure will reflect America's strength in its diversity.

"Joe has been proud to stand with the Asian American and Pacific Islandaer community, and is committed to making sure that the Biden Harris administration reflects the diversity of America. As Joe Biden has said ''we are stronger because of our diversity and not in spite of it''," Harris said.

"South Asians for Biden is truly honoured to have Senator Kamala Harris provide remarks at our South Asian Women in Leadership event," said Neha Dewan, National Director of South Asians for Biden.
