Former captain Allan Border revealed on Friday he is suffering from Parkinson's disease, the latest blow to befall former Australian cricketing legends in the past three years.

The 68-year-old has gone public seven years after being diagnosed with the illness and said he and a doctor friend both agreed it would be "a miracle" if he makes 80.

"No way am I going to get another 100, that’s for sure," Border told Newscorp.

"I'll just slip slowly into the west."

Border had told only one person of his diagnosis: former team-mate Dean Jones, who died of a heart attack in 2020.

Jones was the precursor of a terrible time for Australian cricket.

Former wicketkeeper Rod Marsh and spin king Shane Warne died within days of each other in March 2022, both from heart attacks.

Two months later Andrew Symonds -- a member of two World Cup-winning sides -- was killed in a car crash.

Border, who spoke at Warne's memorial service, said he had been happy to keep the news to himself over the past seven years but a friend had told him last week many of his close associates had noticed his shaking.

"I'm a pretty private person and I didn't want people to feel sorry for me sort of thing," he said.

"Whether people care you don’t know. But I know there’ll come a day when people will notice."

Border, though, showing the same rugged determination that he had as skipper -- yielding the 1987 World Cup and an Ashes series win over England in 1989 -- said he was in a better place than many other people.

"I get the feeling I'm a hell of a lot better off than most," said Border, who scored 27 centuries and 63 half-centuries in 156 Tests.

"At the moment I'm not scared, not about the immediate future anyway.

"I'm 68. If I make 80, that'll be a miracle.

"I've got a doctor friend and I said if I make 80, that'll be a miracle, and he said, 'That will be a miracle.'"

The game's moved on. But I think there's an opportunity there for us to go to England early and play a couple of games... just to polish things off a bit," Border added.

I think that has helped the Indians and Australians and the way, the mannerisms out in the field. But don’t mistake the smiling assassins (Tim Paine’s Australians). They will be friendly alright but they will be keen to be the Australian boys because they really rate this series very highly,” added Border.

The former Australian admitted that Virat Kohli perfectly represents the changing face of Indian cricket, backing Greg Chappell’s comments of Kohli being the most Australian non-Australian. David scored a career-high 335 not out in Adelaide against Pakistan's young bowling attack in the two-match Test series.

Warner joins a club of multiple winners of the Border Medal he has won in 2016 and 2017, this list includes Ricky Ponting (2004, 2006, 2007) and Michael Clarke (2005, 2012, 2013), who also shared the medal in 2009.&nbsp;

After ball-tampering ban, David Warner receives Allan Border medal

The pacer achieved the feat in the ongoing first Test match between England and South Africa at the Supersport Park in Centurion.

Anderson had Dena Elgar (0) caught at the hands of the wicket-keeper Jos Buttler on the very first ball of the match.

Before Anderson, Suranga Lakmal (Sri Lanka), Mitchell Starc (Australia) and <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/south-african-quick-dale-steyn-retires-from-test-cricket-240928">Dale Steyn</a> (South Africa) were the only ones to take a wicket on the first ball of a match this decade. 
Lakmal has done this twice in this decade (2010 and 2017).

In the match, Anderson also became only the second English cricketer to play 150 Test matches. Overall, he has now become the ninth cricketer to achieve the feat.

"He's just a different class, it's as simple as that, he looks like he's playing in different conditions," Border added.

"The bowling looks less threatening when he's at the crease. All the other batsmen have really struggled.

"There's been some good bowling and the pitches have helped the bowlers a fair bit throughout the series ... but when Steve Smith's facing up, it's a different ballgame.

"He's just been the difference between the two teams to date."
