<p>Eight people including two children were found dead in the Saint Lawrence River near the Canada-US border on Thursday. Now, a family in the Mehsana district of the western Indian state of Gujarat has claimed that the Indians among the eight dead may have been their kin.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Officials of the Mehsana district administration said some village residents approached the collector and requested that arrangements be made to retrieve the bodies of the four deceased.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"It is confirmed that four members of a family from Manekpur village in Vijapur taluka of Mehsana went to Canada on a visitor's visa and tried to cross the river. The villagers approached us seeking help to bring back their bodies, which we have reported to the state government," said an official.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to The Hindu report, Pravin Chaudhary, a farmer, his wife Daksha, their son Mit, and daughter Vidhi had reached Canada a few weeks ago on a tourist visa. They were attempting to enter the US illegally by undertaking the risky boat journey across the river.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Jasubhai Chaudhary, a resident of Manekpur village claimed it was his brother that died in the accident after repeated phone calls to reach him went blank.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Two months ago, my brother, his wife and two children went to Canada on a visitors' visa. Yesterday morning I learnt about the death of members of a family from India in Canada. I tried to contact my brother but was not able to do so. This caused suspicion that they were our family members,"&nbsp;Chaudhary was quoted as saying by PTI.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The report added that a local agent was involved in human smuggling had sold the dream of living in the US to&nbsp;Pravin and his family.&nbsp;</p>

<p>At 7:40am on Sunday morning, the Indian Space Research Organisation(ISRO) performed a feat that brought to fruition an idea born 20 years ago — the runway landing of an unmanned, fully autonomous, indigenous space plane.</p>

<p>Known as 'RLV-TD' (Reusable launch vehicle-Technology Demonstrator) the space place was dropped mid-air from an altitude of 4.5km, by an Indian Air Force 'Chinook' tandem-rotor helicopter, from where the space plane glided down, performed autonomous navigation, guidance and control calculations, manoeuvred deftly and landed precisely on a runway at&nbsp;high speed&nbsp;of 350kmph.</p>

<p>Top ISRO officials told WION that the plane landed just as planned, perfectly along the runway centreline and the spaceplane is in impeccable condition, at the tarmac in Chitradurga, Karnataka.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"In a first in the world, a winged body has been carried to an altitude of 4.5 km by a helicopter and released for carrying out an autonomous landing on a runway. RLV is essentially a space plane with a low lift to drag ratio requiring an approach at high glide angles that necessitated a landing at high velocities of 350 kmph," said the Indian Space agency, ISRO.</p>

<p>Post the successful touch-down and landing of the space plane, ISRO Chairman&nbsp;Dr. S. Somanath appreciated the team of Indian scientists. This space plane landing is an effort of Indian Space agency ISRO, India's Defence Research Lab DRDO, and the Indian Air Force, among others.</p>

<p>He added that this was a great opportunity for India to develop an 'ORV' (orbital landing experiment) and that this work was already progressing. ORV is where the same space plane is flown to space atop a rocket and then brought back to land, completely autonomously.</p>

<p>"Today's step is taking us closer to reusable rocket/landing craft for very specific mission goals," he said. India has so far been using expendable rockets that fall back into the sea after launch, once this spaceplane becomes a reality, it would make India among the handful nations that have a re-usable orbital space vehicle.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Explaining the progress of RLV testing, VSSC Director, Dr. S. Unnikrishnan Nair told WION about how the same RLV-TD vehicle had earlier (in 2016) successfully been carried to 65km&nbsp;altitude by a rocket. From there, the vehicle re-entered the denser parts of the atmopshere at Hypersonic speeds, almost five times the speed of sound and finally made a splashdown landing in the Bay of Bengal (simulated runway).</p>

<p>However, the ocean landing was a preliminary step and the precise runway landing is a really sophisticated and technologically complex feat that takes forward the progress of making the spaceplane a reality, he added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Dr. Nair also said that this RLV-TD vehicle was meant for demonstration purpose and the real vehicle would be about 1.6 times larger. Specifying how the final RLV spaceplane would work, he said that the spaceplane would be mounted atop a modified-GSLV rocket and then launched into space, where the spaceplane would be autonomously carrying out on-board experiments and operating its payloads.</p>

<p>The spaceplane could function in Low Earth orbit for up to a month and then autonomously perform de-orbiting and re-enter the earth's atmosphere and come in to land on the runway. This ensures that the spaceplane can be fully re-used, after carrying out a few refurbishments.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On the latest test and the homegrown systems for the same, ISRO said LEX utilised several indigenous systems. Localised Navigation systems based on pseudolite systems, instrumentation, and sensor systems, etc. were developed by ISRO.</p>

<p>Digital Elevation Model (DEM) of the landing site with a Ka-band Radar Altimeter provided accurate altitude information. <p>In the first such public remarks by a senior official of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) grouping, Julianne Smith, the United States Permanent Representative to NATO has said that the alliance is "open to more engagement" with India. In a press briefing with journalists, Smith confirmed that "informal exchanges" have taken place between some NATO and Indian officials on the sidelines of the annual Raisina Dialogue in Delhi.</p>

<p>"There have been some exchanges on the margins of the Raisina Dialogue, which is a start and has opened up the conversation a little bit," Smith said. She explained, "Message that has already been sent back to India is that the NATO alliance certainly is open to more engagement with India, should that country take an interest in pursuing that."</p>

<p>NATO currently has 40 different partners around the world. <p>Asked about an invitation to India to attend these meetings and become a member of the grouping, Julianne Smith said, "In terms of the future with India, again, I think NATO's door is open in terms of engagement. Should India be interested, but we would not want to, at this stage, invite them to a NATO ministerial, until we knew more about their interest in engaging the Alliance more broadly."</p>

<p>The bodies, as per reports, were recovered in a marsh area Thursday during an aerial search with the Canadian Coast Guard.&nbsp;The&nbsp;bodies were found in Tsi Snaihne (Snye), a Mohawk territory in Akwesasne, a region that borders Quebec, Ontario, and New York state. The first body, according to the authorities, was found at&nbsp;about 5 pm.&nbsp;</p>

The vessel was departing from the east end of Cornwall Island, in the St. Lawrence at the time of it was last seen with Oakes onboard it.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Earth as viewed on February 1–15, 2023 is seen in the "Global False Colour Composite mosaic generated by NRSC/ISRO using photos from Ocean Colour Monitor on EOS-06 mosaic with 1 km spatial resolution," that combines 2939 images after processing 300 GB of data.</p>

What does India look like from space? ISRO's new satellite images have the answer

<p>At least&nbsp;35 people have been killed after the roof of a stepwell collapsed at a temple in Madhya Pradesh's Indore on Thursday (March 30).&nbsp;The stepwell roof at the Beleshwar Mahadev temple could not carry&nbsp;the weight of a large crowd.</p>

<p>As per initial reports, more than 30 people fell into the stepwell of the Shri Beleshwar Mahadev Jhulelal Temple&nbsp;resulting in a serious accident.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Total of 35 people died, one missing and 14 people have been rescued. Two people returned home safely after getting treatment. The search operation to trace persons reported missing is underway," Indore Collector Ilayaraja T said, as quoted by news agency ANI.</p>

<p>"The 18 hours long rescue operation started at around 12:30 on Thursday, and is still ongoing," he added.</p>

<p>The incident happened on the day of Ram Navami, an auspicious day as per the&nbsp;Hindu calendar&nbsp;when worshippers throng the temple, reported Zee News.</p>

<p>The temple is situated in Sneh Nagar, one of Indore's oldest residential neighbourhoods, and is run by a private trust. The tragedy might have been avoided had the Indore Municipal Corporation responded to local complaints, reported NDTV.</p>

As per initial reports, more than 30 people fell into the stepwell of the Shri Beleshwar Mahadev Jhulelal Temple resulting in a serious accident. "Total of 35 people died, one missing and 14 people have been rescued. Two people returned home safely after getting treatment. The search operation to trace persons reported missing is underway," Indore Collector Ilayaraja T said, as quoted by news agency ANI. "The 18 hours long rescue operation started at around 12:30 on Thursday, and is still ongoing," he added. The incident happened on the day of Ram Navami, an auspicious day as per the Hindu calendar when worshippers throng the temple, reported Zee News. The temple is situated in Sneh Nagar, one of Indore's oldest residential neighbourhoods, and is run by a private trust. The tragedy might have been avoided had the Indore Municipal Corporation responded to local complaints, reported NDTV.
