<p>US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has said the economic sanctions imposed by the US on countries across the board have put the dollar's dominance at stake. As the US continues to plaster sanctions willy-nilly, targeted nations are seeking alternatives which puts the USD in jeopardy.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"There is a risk when we use financial sanctions that are linked to the role of the dollar that over time it could undermine the hegemony of the dollar," Yellen was quoted as saying by CNN.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Of course, it does create a desire on the part of China, of Russia, of Iran to find an alternative," she said before adding, "But the dollar is used as a global currency for reasons that are not easy for other countries to find an alternative with the same properties."&nbsp;</p>

<p>After casting aspersions over the health of the USD, Yellen added that sanctions were an 'extremely important tool' if used by the US and its allies as "a coalition of partners acting together".&nbsp;</p>

<p>Yellen's response comes days after the US Treasury and State Departments sanctioned nearly 120 targets, including Chinese, UAE and Turkish firms to squeeze Russia for its ongoing war with Ukraine.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Experts at the time suggested that sanctioning Turkish and UAE firms, which are US ally countries could have a negative effect.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Meanwhile, a miffed China released a statement calling USA's action&nbsp;an 'illegal' move.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“It is a typical unilateral sanction and a form of ‘long-arm jurisdiction’ which seriously damages the legitimate rights and interests of enterprises and affects the security and stability of the global supply chain. China firmly opposes this,” read a statement released by the Chinese Commerce Ministry.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The USD has been the king of currencies since 1944 when it officially became the reserve currency of the world, Since then, the dollar has enjoyed a sort of domination that very few other currencies have experienced. Additionally, it has granted the US an insurmountable influence over other economies.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, the de-dollarisation started especially since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war. Nations across the board have started asking&nbsp;if they can drop the USD and use other currencies to break the hegemony.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Last month, India inked an agreement with as many as 18 countries to trade in Indian rupees. More recently, New Delhi announced it had signed an agreement with Malaysia to start trading in INR.</p>

<p>Iran has also fully abandoned USD in its trade with China and Russia. Saudi Arabia, the centre of Islamic power and an OPEC member said it will abandon PetroDollar and accept PetroYuan.</p>

<p>Beijing is aggressively moving to present Yuan as an alternative to USD. It has been using global platforms such as the BRICS, SCO and OPEC to do its bidding.&nbsp;Russia is also increasingly using Yuan in international trade. It is also mulling launching a joint BRICS currency.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to an IMF report, USD's global foreign-exchange reserves fell below 59 per cent in the final quarter of last year. The trend is expected to continue this year and Yellen's warning may suggest that the situation may have turned pear-shaped.</p>

<p>A company VD Global in Surat city of the Indian state of Gujarat found a "diamond within a diamond", a rarest of all finds till now. The 0.329-carat diamond has been given the moniker "Beating Heart" by the company, who&nbsp;suggested the name based on the first feelings upon witnessing the stone.</p>

<p>The stone is now included among rare diamonds, along with Matryoshka diamond, according to the Gem &amp; Jewellery Export Promotion Council. For those who are unaware, Russian diamond miners had found a diamond that had another diamond locked up inside of it, much like a Matryoshka doll.&nbsp;It was first of such rare diamonds that had been discovered in Siberia, Russia.&nbsp;Matryoshka diamond remained the first such diamond in the history of world diamond mining until 2019.</p>

<p>The latest finding from India's Gujarat is distinctive. This diamond has a smaller diamond caught inside of it, a rare of its type. Surat has one of the world's largest diamond processing centers. Here, many world's diamonds are cut and polished.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The stone was part of a package of roughs. V D Global discovered the 0.329 carat D-colored diamond sometime in October 2022.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"While examining roughs at our Surat facility, we found this rare piece of diamond that had another smaller piece trapped inside, but moving freely, which we had never come across earlier," said media reports quoting Vallabh Vaghasiya, chairman of V D Global. “We named it 'Beating Heart' based on our initial feelings upon seeing the unique stone,” Vaghasiya added.</p>

<p>A De Beers Group Sightholder, VDG Global is a diamond manufacturer with operations in Surat and Mumbai with a worldwide business presence. The company informed De Beers and the stone was taken to the company's laboratory in Maidenhead, UK, for further testing.&nbsp;</p>

"While examining roughs at our Surat facility, we found this rare piece of diamond that had another smaller piece trapped inside, but moving freely, which we had never come across earlier," said media reports quoting Vallabh Vaghasiya, chairman of V D Global. “We named it 'Beating Heart' based on our initial feelings upon seeing the unique stone,” Vaghasiya added. <p>Unnat P. Pandit, Controller General of Patent, Designs and Trademarks and Registrar of GI Registry, presented Himanta with the Geographical Indication registration certificate for "gamosa."</p>

<p>Five years after the initial application, in December 2022, the central government granted the GI tag to "Gamosa," a representation of Assamese culture and identity.</p>

<p>Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi has been&nbsp;called by the CBI on Sunday (April 16) for questioning&nbsp;over alleged corruption in the capital's now-scrapped alcohol sales policy.&nbsp;Manish Sisodia, an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former deputy chief minister of Delhi, is currently in jail in connection with the same case, and law enforcement authorities have made other arrests.</p>

<p>An order from the Goa Police for Kejriwal to appear for questioning on April 27 in connection with an alleged defacement of public property has also been issued.</p>

<p>Even though the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been asserting that Kejriwal was the brains behind the alleged scam, this is the first time the CBI has summoned the chief minister in the investigation, reported the Hindustan Times.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Calling the CBI summons as a conspiracy to arrest Kejriwal, AAP MP Sanjay Singh said, “I'd like to tell the PM - you and your Govt are covered in corruption from head to toe and Arvind Kejriwal's fight will not stop with this CBI summon. The conspiracy hatched by you to arrest, jail and take action against Arvind Kejriwal on 16th April will not stifle his voice.”</p>

<p>The MEA statement said, "The Ukrainian Deputy FM also proposed that rebuilding infrastructure in Ukraine could be an opportunity for Indian companies. Secretary (West) shared that India has provided medicines, and medical equipment and would provide school buses, etc. to Ukraine."</p>

<p>Following a visit to the Manohar Parrikar Institute of Defence Studies, Dzhaparova spoke at the Indian Council of World Affairs. She emphasised Ukraine's aim to forge a stronger and more enduring relationship with India during her visit.</p>

<p>A road rage video has gone viral recently on social networks in which a family was attacked and threatened by stunt bikers on the outskirts of Srinagar for filming a video of stunt biking. The J&amp;K Police and its traffic wing has formed special teams to identify individuals involved in stunt biking and posing a threat to the life of common people. The traffic police are also taking action against repeat offenders of stunt biking incidents.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"We have started acting tough and the repeated and habitual offenders are being dealt with sternly while those who are doing it for the first time are being counselled in front of their parents before letting them go. We have summoned a few, and are trying to reach out to the maximum to counsel them. In addition to law enforcement, parents have an important role in preventing such incidents. If they want to provide their children two-wheelers or other vehicles, they should make sure they have all the necessary documentation, safety equipment, and, most importantly, whether or not they are eligible to drive,'' said Muzaffar Ahmad Shah, SSP Traffic.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Kashmir region has witnessed multiple deaths and injuries due to these bike stunts. A youngster died recently in a bike collision on the famous boulevard road of Dal Lake while doing a stunt. The videos on social networks of these bike stunts led to a lot of citizens approaching the traffic police to curb bike stunts. The police say&nbsp;that they won't allow these youngsters to endanger their lives and of the pedestrians.&nbsp;The issue of road rage and stunt biking is not restricted to the Srinagar city only but various parts of the region as well.&nbsp;</p>

<p>''The department has taken multiple measures to curb stunt biking and rash riding by two-wheeler riders, besides identifying the boys involved in it. With the help of social media, we have identified a good number of bikers from other districts who come to Srinagar for bike stunts and reckless riding and driving.
