The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders (DCC) have officially unveiled their 2026-27 roster, introducing eight new rookies who earned a coveted place on one of the world's most iconic cheer squads. The announcement was made in mid-July through the team's official Instagram account with the caption, “Officially earned their stars. Introducing your 2026-2027 Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders!” Since Netflix's America's Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders premiered in June 2024, the audition process has drawn a global audience. This year's rookie class features a mix of returning hopefuls who overcame previous setbacks and first-time candidates who successfully secured a place on the final roster.
1. Savanna Dastrup
Savanna Dastrup's journey is among the most inspiring in this year's rookie class. Featured in Season 3 of America's Sweethearts, she reached training camp for the 2025-26 squad but was ultimately cut before the final roster was announced.Instead of walking away, Dastrup sought direct feedback from DCC director Kelli Finglass and head choreographer Judy Trammell, asking whether she realistically had a chance if she auditioned again. "You might just chalk this up to timing and experience and the pressure," Finglass told her. “But I think you've got the skills to make this team or another team.” The Utah native and former Texas Christian University cheerleader returned in 2026 and achieved her dream. "This is an absolute dream come true!! I am so excited and am so so grateful for this opportunity!!! go cowboys!!"
2. Emily Awbrey
Emily Awbrey impressed judges with her technical dance ability during her first audition in 2025. Despite being praised as one of the strongest dancers, she was not selected. Finglass acknowledged her talent but believed she still needed to adapt to the signature pom style that defines DCC performances. "I hope you do consider re-auditioning," Finglass told her, adding she would be “disappointed if you don't try out again.” Awbrey returned stronger the following year and secured a spot on the squad."I'm genuinely speechless. No words can describe this."
3. Amiyah Naulls
Amiyah Naulls joins the squad after competing with the dance team at California State University, Fullerton. She also completed a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Prep Intensive while pursuing her degree and teaching dance. Following the roster announcement, she celebrated her achievement on social media. "Like someone pinch me!! What an honor!!"
4. Haley Bogdon
Haley Bogdon brings a unique combination of experience to the team. A graduate of the University of Arkansas, she participated in the university's dance team and is also a registered nurse. After making the squad, she shared her excitement online. "I can't believe I'm a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader!!!!! I am so honored and grateful to be living my dream." Also Read: Who is Damayanti Sen? 15-year-old national rifle shooter missing from Howrah; investigation underway

For the first time in FIFA World Cup history, the reigning Copa America champions will face the defending European champions in the final as Argentina prepare to take on Spain on Sunday. The prospect of an Argentina-Spain showdown briefly looked uncertain when England took the lead in the semifinal against the reigning world champions. However, Lionel Messi inspired another remarkable comeback in Atlanta as Argentina overturned the deficit to secure a dramatic 2-1 victory. Messi played a decisive role in the turnaround, providing assists for Enzo Fernandez and Lautaro Martinez, who found the net to send Argentina into a record-equalling third consecutive FIFA World Cup final. The clash against Spain will also mark the first time Messi faces the European giants in a World Cup match, despite spending most of his legendary club career in Spain. Following Argentina's semifinal triumph, Messi praised Spain and acknowledged the team's long-standing football philosophy. “Spain is a great team with outstanding players and a very distinctive style of play. They’re a team I know very well, with a football philosophy they’ve been following for many years. I know their players too,” Messi said.

Spain head into the final after an outstanding defensive campaign, conceding just one goal throughout the tournament. The European champions booked their place in the final with a commanding 2-0 victory over France in the semi-finals, reaching their first FIFA World Cup final in 16 years. Messi admitted that the final will be particularly meaningful because of his deep connection with Spanish football and FC Barcelona. “I’ve faced many of them, and I still follow them. Several of them play for Barcelona, a club I love and continue to follow. So it will be a special match because it’s a World Cup final, and naturally I expect it to be a very even game,” Messi told reporters after the victory over England. Also Read: Argentina's ultimate bogeyman? We’re coming off winning the World Cup, we’ve been the best team over the last four years, and today we’re among the two best teams in the world, another final. No matter how much it hurts or what people say, this group keeps proving that nobody gives you anything on the pitch,” he added. Messi enters Sunday's World Cup final as the leading contender for the Golden Ball after registering eight goals and four assists during the tournament. The 39-year-old also revealed the level of preparation he undertook over the past year with the World Cup firmly in his sights. “I’ve been preparing for this World Cup for almost a year. I spent December in Argentina, training morning and afternoon, because I knew I was going to give everything to arrive in the best possible shape,” he added.

Argentina’s thrilling 2-1 win over England in the 2026 FIFA World Cup semi-final was remembered not only for Lionel Messi’s brilliant performance but also for a heated first half. England midfielder Jude Bellingham later explained that his viral exchange with Messi was simply part of the intense nature of the match and not a personal argument.Argentina came from behind after Anthony Gordon gave England the lead in the second half and late goals from Enzo Fernandez and Lautaro Martinez completed the comeback and booked Argentina’s place in the final against Spain. Before the late goals, however, the match had already become one of the toughest and most physical games of the tournament.
Record number of first-half fouls
Both teams played with high intensity from the start. Argentina president Javier Milei, on Thursday (Jul 16), confirmed that he won't be attending the FIFA 2026 final match between the defending champions and Spain. The match is scheduled for Sunday (Jul 19) at the New York New Jersey Stadium in East Rutherford with US President Donald Trump set to be present. The Argentine president not attending the final is, however, because of superstition - something very common among Argentina football fans when it comes to Messi and team trying to win the World Cup.
Superstitions grip Argentina fans, including president, before FIFA 2026 final
Asked if he is going to attend the final match in New York, Milei made his intentions clear on Buenos Aires radio station, El Observador, he said: "No way," adding: "I'm going to keep watching all the games from Olivos," refering to his official resident.

Milei has watched all the games from home and has worn a heavy jacket which he plans to wear in the final as well. "Since it's cold and I don't turn on the heat, I wear an oil company-branded jacket. The day of the Switzerland game, it made me really hot. I took it off, and they scored a goal against us. I put it back on and never took it off again."No sitting Argentina president has watched the team play in person since 1990. Rory McIlroy's hopes of ending a 12-year wait to win his home major are hanging by a thread after a two- over par 72. Suber, ranked 115th in the world, had a first ever round at the British Open to remember. Also Read - Sports ministry orders neutral probe into Asunta Lakra's allegations, seeks explanation from Hockey India After making the turn at level par, he picked up five shots in the next eight holes, topped off by an eagle on the 17th to give him a one-shot lead from England's Daniel Brown and South Korean Im Sung-jae. The 26-year-old is playing in just his third major and had never experienced European golf until his first practice round on Monday. "Monday was my first round of links golf, so I've played 27 holes before I played the first round today. I've never been to Europe," said Suber. "Things just really started going after the birdie on 10. I just felt like the momentum was really in my favour." Scheffler made a steady start to his defence of the tournament with a two under par 68. After his record of 78 successive cuts made dating back four years, came to an end at last week's Scottish Open, Scheffler looked refreshed with four birdies in five holes between the second and the sixth. But bogeys at the seventh and par-five 17th dropped him back and a birdie putt at the last came to a halt just inches shy of the hole. "I got off to a hot start in the round today and wasn't able to make as many birdies as I would have hoped to down the stretch," said Scheffler, who has not won on the PGA Tour since January. "If I continue to strike the ball the way I did today and just keep giving myself looks, that's part of it. Golf is played over 72 holes, and I definitely liked what I saw today." Out of sorts McIlroy Bryson DeChambeau is set to snap his unwanted streak of failing to make the cut at the previous three majors this year after an opening round 67. The two-time US Open champion has often struggled in the wind of links conditions at the British Open but, with the weather set fair for the next three days, he is hoping to take advantage. "There's still a lot of golf to be played, but, ultimately from my perspective, I was really excited about the way I played," said DeChambeau. World number four Cameron Young is also poised to strike at three under. McIlroy and the later starters endured the worst of the conditions as the wind picked up and furher dried out a firm course after precious little rain in recent weeks. But the six-time major champion was completely out of sorts in a round that contained six bogeys, including at both par fives. McIlroy faces a battle in Friday's second round just to avoid missing the cut for only the second time in his last 15 majors. "Just too many stupid mistakes. But every time I made a stupid mistake, thankfully I made a birdie to sort of keep myself in it," said McIlroy "Not too far away. Hopefully we'll get the better conditions tomorrow and maybe the greens are a little bit smoother in the morning." Matt Fitzpatrick, playing in the same group as McIlroy, also struggled with one of the form players on the PGA Tour this year posting a 72.

Spain were handed a minor fitness concern ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026 final after teenage star Lamine Yamal trained away from the main squad during Thursday's session in New Jersey. However, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) quickly dismissed fears of an injury, stating that Yamal is expected to be available for Sunday's blockbuster final against Argentina. Yamal and defender Pedro Porro completed individual recovery exercises during Spain's first training session following their 2-0 semifinal victory over France. The sight of both players working separately sparked speculation on social media, but the federation clarified that the sessions were purely precautionary. Speaking to Reuters, the RFEF explained that both players were following a carefully managed recovery programme and remain on track to feature in the World Cup final as Spain chase only their second world title.
Spain dismisses injury fears
Yamal endured a physically demanding semi-final against France, spending much of the match under pressure from full-backs Lucas Dinged and Theo Hernandez. Although Spain coach Luis de la Fuente dismissed injury concerns after the match, saying the Barcelona teenager had 'nothing', the 18-year-old was naturally dealing with the usual knocks and bruises following another intense performance. The Spanish federation reiterated that Thursday's individual training session formed part of the team's recovery plan and should not be viewed as a sign of any fresh injury. Pedro Porro's situation appears slightly more delicate. Following the victory over France, De la Fuente acknowledged that the Tottenham defender had been managing a minor issue. Reuters reported that Porro is dealing with a slight hamstring strain, although it is not expected to rule him out of the final.
Spain focused on Argentina challenge
The remainder of Thursday's training session passed without incident, with the Spanish squad appearing relaxed despite humid conditions and temperatures approaching 30°C in New Jersey. Luis de la Fuente's side now have three days to finalise preparations before facing defending champions Argentina, led by Lionel Messi, in one of the most anticipated World Cup finals in recent history. Spain are aiming to win their second FIFA World Cup, having previously lifted the trophy in 2010, while Argentina are chasing consecutive world titles. Spain's priority over the coming days will be ensuring every player, particularly Lamine Yamal and Pedro Porro, is fully fit before stepping onto the field at the New York New Jersey Stadium for Sunday's final.

US President Donald Trump will attend Sunday's FIFA World Cup final between Spain and Argentina, with the White House confirming his presence at the tournament's showpiece event. The final will mark Trump's first appearance at this year's World Cup. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump's attendance would conclude what the administration described as a successful tournament hosted in the United States. "His attendance will cap what has been the most watched, most secure, and most successful World Cup in American history," Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told a briefing on Thursday. “This is a fitting conclusion to a tournament that showcased America's ability to host the world on the grandest stage.” Leavitt also confirmed that Trump will attend a reception hosted by FIFA at Trump Tower in New York on Friday before travelling to the final. Earlier in June, FIFA President Gianni Infantino had announced that Trump would attend the championship match in New Jersey and present the World Cup trophy to the winners. However, the White House had not officially confirmed those plans until now. When asked whether Trump would support Spain or Argentina, Leavitt said she did not know. Also Read: IND vs ENG, 2nd ODI: Joe Root's 99 not out helps England beat India by four wickets; series level at 1-1

The question comes after Trump criticised Spain during a NATO summit last week, accusing the European nation of failing to assist in military action involving Iran.
Trump's involvement in the World Cup
Although Trump has not attended any World Cup matches before the final, he has remained involved in tournament-related discussions. Earlier this month, Trump confirmed that he requested FIFA President Gianni Infantino to review the red card shown to United States striker Folarin Balogun during a match against Bosnia. Following the review, FIFA suspended Balogun's one-match ban before the United States faced Belgium. Despite the striker's availability, the hosts suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat. Trump has also repeatedly claimed credit for helping secure the United States' successful bid to co-host the 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside Canada and Mexico, a decision approved during his first presidential term.
Trophy presentation
FIFA President Gianni Infantino has maintained a close relationship with Trump in recent years. At the World Cup draw in Washington last year, Infantino presented Trump with FIFA's newly created Peace Prize. If Trump presents the World Cup trophy on Sunday, it will come after a widely discussed moment following last year's FIFA Club World Cup final. After Chelsea defeated Paris Saint-Germain in New Jersey, Trump handed the trophy to Chelsea captain Reece James but remained on the stage during the team's celebrations, creating an unusual trophy presentation. He later kept a replica of the Club World Cup trophy in his office.

The International Cricket Council's (ICC) decision to overhaul the Men's ODI World Cup format from 2027 is being hailed as a move to create a more competitive and engaging tournament. By expanding the competition to 14 teams and introducing multiple stages before the semifinals, the governing body hopes to reduce dead-rubber matches and ensure every fixture carries significance. But beyond the structural changes, the new format could dramatically alter how teams approach the tournament, and not every nation is expected to benefit equally. While heavyweight sides with greater depth and consistency appear well-positioned to thrive, lower-ranked teams and those prone to inconsistent performances may find the road to the trophy significantly more challenging.
At a glance: What has changed?

14 teams will compete in the ODI World Cup from 2027.

Teams will first play in two groups of seven.

The top four teams from each group advance to the Super 8 stage.

The bottom three teams enter a Super 7 stage, where they continue playing for final rankings.

The top four teams from the Super 8 qualify for the semifinals.

Every team remains involved for longer, ensuring more meaningful matches throughout the tournament.

Biggest winners under the new format

India
India arguably stand to gain the most. Their exceptional squad depth, consistent ODI performances and ability to rotate quality players make them well-equipped for a tournament requiring sustained excellence over several weeks. The longer competition also rewards teams capable of adapting to different conditions and maintaining intensity throughout.
Australia
Five-time world champions Australia have built a reputation for peaking during ICC events. Their balanced squads, tournament experience and ability to cope with pressure make them natural favourites under a format that demands consistency across multiple stages rather than just a strong group phase.
England
England's attacking ODI philosophy and deep batting resources could flourish. With more high-pressure matches before the knockout stages, teams possessing explosive batting and versatile all-rounders are likely to enjoy an advantage.
New Zealand
No team may be better suited to the new structure than New Zealand. The Black Caps have repeatedly reached the latter stages of ICC tournaments by relying on discipline, adaptability and consistency rather than star power. The revised format rewards precisely those qualities.
South Africa
As one of the co-hosts of the 2027 World Cup, South Africa could benefit from familiar conditions. Having slipped to 10th in the ICC ODI rankings, the West Indies are no longer guaranteed automatic qualification for the 2027 World Cup. Failure to improve their ranking would force them into the qualification pathway before they can even compete in the main tournament.
Bangladesh
Bangladesh have often shown they can upset stronger teams, but consistency has remained an issue. Under the revised structure, every match carries added significance, making early defeats far more damaging.
Pakistan
Pakistan could either emerge as one of the biggest beneficiaries—or one of the biggest casualties. Their ability to produce match-winning performances is unquestioned, but periods of inconsistency have frequently cost them in major tournaments. The new format leaves little room for prolonged dips in form.
Lower-ranked qualifiers
Associate nations and emerging teams will enjoy more exposure if they qualify, but progressing deep into the tournament remains a difficult challenge. Without the squad depth enjoyed by established cricketing nations, sustaining performances across multiple stages becomes considerably harder.
Why consistency matters more than ever
Unlike previous editions, the 2027 World Cup will place greater emphasis on sustained performances rather than short bursts of brilliance. The format rewards teams that can:

Win consistently across different stages.

Handle repeated high-pressure encounters.

Rotate players without weakening the squad.

Adapt quickly to varying conditions and opponents.

Conversely, teams that suffer slow starts or rely on momentum alone could struggle to recover as every fixture carries greater weight.
What it means for the future
The ICC believes the revamped structure will create a fairer and more competitive World Cup by keeping more teams in contention for longer while ensuring every match has meaningful consequences. For cricket's traditional powerhouses, the changes appear favourable, rewarding depth, experience and consistency. For lower-ranked teams, however, the challenge begins even before the tournament starts. With automatic qualification tied closely to ICC ODI rankings, every bilateral series leading up to 2027 could prove just as important as the World Cup itself. Ultimately, the revamped format shifts the focus from surviving the group stage to sustaining excellence throughout the competition, a change that could reshape the race for cricket's biggest 50-over prize.

The third and final ODI against England at Lord's on July 19 could mark Rohit Sharma's final appearance in One-Day Internationals for India. The sports ministry has directed the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to constitute a neutral, fair and transparent committee to investigate allegations made by former India women's hockey captain Asunta Lakra. The ministry has also sought an explanation from Hockey India over the matter, indicating closer scrutiny of how the federation handled the complaints, sources in sports ministry told news agency ANI. The move follows serious allegations made by Lakra, who claimed Hockey India Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh threatened her after she raised concerns about alleged misconduct by Jharkhand coach Sudhir Gola towards female players at the state's Eklavya Centre. Lakra, a former India international who represented the country at the 2006 and 2010 Commonwealth Games and two Asia Cups, said she spoke out to protect young players and was allegedly warned to ‘stay within your limits’. "I had raised some issues in the interest of the players of Jharkhand, specifically for the girls of the Eklavya Centre. If I, as a leader, do not step forward for my junior players, the upcoming players, then what is the point of being a leader? So, when I saw some wrongdoings, and they were proven as well, if I am being threatened after those things were proven, told to ‘stay within your limits’ and to talk while staying within your limits, she told ANI. Also Read: England vs France: 4 reasons why you shouldn't ignore the FIFA World Cup third-place play-off clash Lakra further alleged that she received a threatening phone call from Hockey India Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh on May 9 while she was with her ailing father. At that time, I was sitting with my father, who was ill. Suddenly, the call came. I didn't even have a chance to record anything. I never even imagined that something like this would be said to me. The way he spoke, I trembled for a while," Lakra added. Questioning why she was allegedly threatened for speaking up on behalf of players, Lakra pointed to her long association with Indian hockey, including her years representing the national team and serving as a selector. She said raising concerns about wrongdoing should not result in intimidation. "We spoke for about nine minutes. I have that record as well. So, why such threats? If I raise my voice for a player, will I get threats in return? Do I deserve this? I have won medals for the country. I have played for the country for 14-15 years. I have worked continuously as a selector for 13 years for the country. Just because I am telling the truth about a mistake, I am receiving threats," she said. Lakra also explained that she initially attempted to resolve the matter internally by reporting complaints from players against Jharkhand Eklavya Centre coach Sudhir Gola directly to Bhola Nath Singh. According to Lakra, despite Gola's dismissal, he later allegedly held a late-night meeting with players at the hostel, where he pressured them to sign documents while threatening legal action. "Sudhir Gola, who has been our coach at the Jharkhand Eklavya Centre. So, I saw the complaints made by the girls against him. Because of that, I raised this issue. And first of all, I placed it before Bhola Nath Sir, saying, "Sir, this is the matter." I told him verbally, "Sir, please look into it. I don't want to highlight it." My point was that whatever mistakes are happening should be corrected. Why hadn't I given it to the papers until now? I wanted it to be solved somehow. But it didn't happen," she said.

England's hopes of lifting the FIFA World Cup are over once again. The long wait for a first men's major trophy since 1966 continues after Wednesday's heartbreaking defeat to Argentina. However, Thomas Tuchel's side are not heading home just yet. England still have one final assignment at the tournament, a third-place play-off against France on Saturday. At first glance, it may feel like the last match supporters want to watch after such a painful exit. Yet there are several compelling reasons why the contest could still be worth tuning in for.
1. The Golden Boot race is still on
One of the biggest storylines remaining is the battle for the tournament's Golden Boot. France captain Kylian Mbappe has been one of the standout performers of the competition. He currently shares the lead in the scoring charts with Lionel Messi, with both players sitting on eight goals. Messi, though, has the advantage thanks to four assists compared with Mbappe's three. Importantly, goals scored in the third-place play-off count toward the Golden Boot standings. That means Mbappe still has the opportunity to move ahead of the former Barcelona star before the final, although Messi will have a chance to respond. If Mbappe scores or provides two assists, he could emulate Italy's Salvatore Schillaci, who secured the Golden Boot at the 1990 World Cup by scoring in the third-place play-off against England. England also remain represented in the race. Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham are both only two goals behind Messi and Mbappe. Because they trail in assists, they would likely need a hat-trick to claim the award, but football has produced stranger moments. For fans who enjoy watching elite attackers chase individual honours, this remains an intriguing subplot.
2. England can secure their best World Cup finish since 1966
Although the trophy is no longer within reach, England still have history to play for. Winning the third-place play-off would deliver England's highest World Cup finish since lifting the trophy in 1966. It may not have been the target when the tournament started, but finishing third would still represent a significant achievement and underline the progress made during the campaign. England have previously played in two World Cup third-place matches, losing to hosts Italy in 1990 under Sir Bobby Robson and to Belgium in 2018 under Sir Gareth Southgate. With gold and silver no longer possible, a bronze finish remains a valuable prize. Also Read: FIFA World Cup 2026: Lionel Messi dedicates Argentina's win over England to Diego Maradona

3. Fringe players could finally get their chance
Following the demanding schedule of the expanded World Cup, both managers could decide to rotate their squads and rest key players. That could open the door for several talented footballers who have spent much of the tournament waiting on the sidelines. Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has yet to play a single minute. With Declan Rice recovering after a recent illness, Tuchel could hand the youngster his World Cup debut. Ollie Watkins has featured for only six minutes throughout the tournament, while Ivan Toney also made only a brief substitute appearance during England's semifinal defeat. France could also make changes. Veteran midfielder N'Golo Kante, part of France's 2018 World Cup-winning squad, has yet to feature and, at 35, this could be his final opportunity to appear at a World Cup.Manchester City playmaker Rayan Cherki has played just 85 minutes during the tournament and may finally earn a starting role if Didier Deschamps opts to rotate his lineup.
4. One last dose of competitive football
There is another simple reason to watch the third-place play-off, it marks the final weekend of competitive football before the domestic season returns. Following Sunday's World Cup final, supporters will wait almost four weeks until the EFL season begins on 14 August, with the Community Shield taking place the same weekend. The Premier League returns a week later on 21 August, while England's next international fixture will not arrive until the end of September because of changes to the international calendar. Although pre-season friendlies will be available during the break, competitive football will be on pause. For that reason alone, another World Cup clash featuring two of Europe's biggest football nations offers fans one last opportunity to enjoy high-level international football before the new season begins.

India’s 11-year-old racing prodigy Atiqa Mir gave another compelling example of her precocious talent by outqualifying two Mercedes F1 junior drivers for pole position in the Champions of the Future Academy Program Round 3 here. Despite no testing on a rather technical Leopard Circuit, Atiqa, the first Indian to be backed by Formula 1 Academy, set sizzling pace in qualifying of the karting series. She beat established Mercedes F1 Junior drivers like Niccolo Perico of Italy and Devin Titz of Germany for pole position besides setting an event record, earning the plaudits from one and all in the paddock. Atiqa’s special performance in qualifying came after she swept Round 2 of the COTFA series in Greece last month. Post the stellar pole position, Atiqa secured P2 and P3 in the Heats after engrossing battles. In the final, Atiqa started P2 and passed Niccolo for the lead. However, due to an engine mis-fire, she couldn’t hold on to the lead and lost places finally before recovering to finish P6. The results don’t reflect Atiqa’s sensational speed but she did make a mark with the audacious move for the lead on Lap 1 against Niccolo after outpacing him in qualifying. On Day 2, Atiqa was hit by engine trouble and qualified 27th. The organisers were quick to change her engine but the damage was done by then. A recovery drive followed and she charged through the field in every heat to start the final 18th on the grid. In the Final, Atiqa passed as many as nine karts in only one and a half laps before a fellow driver forced her out of the race with a collision from the side. The errant driver was duly penalised. Also Read - IND vs ENG: Why did ICC penalise India pacer Gurnoor Brar? Reflecting on a rollercoaster weekend, Atiqa said: “A bittersweet weekend for me, but I was able to show my pace against the world’s best and beat them.
