<p>Gujarat&nbsp;Congress&nbsp;MLA Geniben Thakor on Monday said she is ready to face imprisonment if needed for the welfare of farmers.</p>

<p>She blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party for the "impoverished" plight of farmers in the state.</p>

<p>She said, "The suffering of farmers have crossed all limits and the ruling party does not care."</p>

<p>She even said that if needed, she would be up in arms to fight against the ruling party to save the farmers from suffering further.</p>

<p>She said, "Though I should not use such language being an MLA, I am so pained that even if I have to take up weapons and kill someone and go to jail, it will not matter to me. The&nbsp;Congress&nbsp;party is ready to go to this extent for the farmers."</p>

<p>Earlier, farmers had launched a nation-wide 10-day strike on June 1, with thousands of farmers from Madhya Pradesh,&nbsp;Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan,&nbsp;Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana demanding waiver of loans, right price for their crops and implementation of recommendations of Swaminathan Commission.</p>

<p>The protests were called to mark the first anniversary of the Mandsaur demonstration in Madhya Pradesh, in which six farmers were killed in police firing.</p>

<p>As part of the protest, farmers had shut down the supply of milk, vegetables and essential farm produce due to which the vegetable prices in the market have gone up.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Enforcement Directorate on Monday requested a special court to tag liquor baron Vijay Mallya under the new&nbsp;Fugitive Economic Offenders Act. It calls for “immediate confiscation” of attached assets valued at over Rs 12,400 crore of Kingfisher Airlines owner.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This is the first case under the new ordinance where the agency will approach the court to seek an official declaration to categorise Mallya as a “fugitive” based on its prosecution complaint — charge sheet — filed under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).</p>

<p>The Fugitive Economic Offenders Ordinance, 2018 aims to deter economic offenders from evading the law by remaining outside the jurisdiction of Indian courts.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On Monday, the Enforcement Directorate charged embattled liquor baron Vijay Mallya and his two firms for fraudulently "diverting" over Rs 3,700 crore bank loan funds to a UK-based F1 motorsport firm, a T20 IPL team, and for enjoying private jet sorties.</p>

<p>The agency named Mallya and his firms - Kingfisher Airlines Limited and United Breweries (United Breweries Holdings Limited) - in its voluminous prosecution complaint filed before a special Mumbai court under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.</p>

<p>Mallya will be given six weeks to contest the charges in court, as per the rules in the ordinance. If he fails to do so, he will be labelled a “fugitive economic offender”.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The ED has already attached assets worth over Rs. 6,000 crore belonging to Vijay Mallya, who is living in the UK and has not appeared before the ED, despite summoning him.</p>

<p>Over 100 migrants from Pakistan's Sindh province who were living on a long-term, visa in Jodhpur were granted citizenship in Rajasthan, reports said. However, many thousands are still waiting for their applications to be processed.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The wait for the rest of the migrants has been a torment as the district administrations are still waiting for the report of Intelligence Bureau and the Long Term Visa (LTV) related details, which are mandatory for giving citizenship to them.</p>

<p>All the preparations were made and people had also come for getting the citizenship. However, the IB report and other details were not received, reports said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A few days ago, department of home had convened a meeting to discuss the issue of granting citizenship to Pakistani Hindu migrants.</p>

<p>Hindu Singh Soda, President of Seemant Lok Sangathan who has played an active role in highlighting the plight of the migrants, said directions to give them citizenship was issued way back in December 2016, reports said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>West Pakistan refugees are those who migrated from West Punjab, Pakistan during the separation of India and Pakistan. As per official date around 47,915 people had migrated from West Pakistan in 1947 to the state of Jammu and Kashmir.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Mehbooba Mufti's tenure as Jammu and Kashmir chief minister came to an abrupt end today with a call from Governor NN Vohra, who informed her that the BJP had pulled out of its alliance with the PDP, officials said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It was a working day just as any other for Mehbooba, who was in her office in the civil secretariat when Chief Secretary BB Vyas received the phone call that signalled the end of her maiden tenure as chief minister, they said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The governor asked Vyas where the chief minister was and asked him to immediately arrange a call with her, they said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This was minutes before BJP general secretary Ram Madhav addressed a press conference in the national capital around 2 pm to announce the decision.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Vyas duly arranged the call. The governor, according to officials in the know of developments, informed Mehbooba about the BJP's decision, which was conveyed to him in a letter sent by BJP state president Ravinder Raina along with the resignation letters of the BJP ministers.</p>

<p>Mehbooba, 59, listened to the news in silence, and after a pause said there was no need for talks with the BJP and she would be <a href="http://wionews.com/india-news/bjp-pulls-out-of-alliance-with-pdp-in-kashmir-145468">submitting her resignation</a>, the officials said.</p>

<p>Indian Railways will become a "net zero" carbon emitter by 2030, Railways Minister Piyush Goyal said Tuesday.</p>

<p>Speaking at an event -- 'The Rail Contact 2018', organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in collaboration with the Railway Board, Goyal said that the national transporter was going green in a big way.</p>

<p>"With the current action plans on anvil for 100 per cent electrification, coupled with renewable strategies, Indian Railways will become a net zero carbon emitter by 2030. However, it is always a team which needs to work in partnership, with a collective effort of working towards a common goal," he said.</p>

<p>Quoting Apple Inc&nbspCo-founder Steve Jobs, the minister added, "Great things in business are never done by one person. Industry participation is as much important in our mission as to make Indian Railways the newest, finest and safest railways in the world."</p>

<p>Sharing the scale of modernisation and transformation Indian Railways has been able to achieve, the minister said, "We have been able to ramp up track renewal to 476 km every month."</p>

<p>"In the last 64 years, freight loading has increased by 1,344 per cent in Indian Railways. Passenger travel in terms of kilometres has increased 1,642 per cent. The total investments in 2013-14 in the capital infrastructure of the railways was slated for about Rs 46,000 crore, which is now made Rs 1,41,000 crore for this year," he said.&nbsp</p>
